Washington, DC -- Nevada Senator Harry Reid issued the following statement following more news that national Republicans, including House Republican Leader John Boehner and politicians in South Carolina, are calling for shipping the nation's nuclear waste to Yucca Mountain."Hell no, that won't happen. Nevada is not the nation's dumping ground and it never will be as long as I have something to say about it. This project was ill-conceived from the beginning. It makes no sense to haul 77,000 tons of the most dangerous substance known to man across the country and into Nevada. Further, at a time when our state is already suffering economically, I'm not willing to risk our state's top industry--tourism--just because politicians in other states that produce the waste don't want it in their back yards."http://reid.senate.gov/newsroom/pr_091710_nonukegop.cfm
>I'm not willing to risk our state's top industry--tourismBut most people go for Las Vegas or Reno, not to walk around in the middle of the desert
See that was the plan. Get billions in government funding to build the facility, providing jobs and funding for the state. Then say you changed your mind and don't want to do it once its built.
>the most dangerous substance known to manlolwat
>>254634>I am immune to cancer, I laugh at mortals
An armed nuclear device is a much more dangerous substance. Waste is relatively harmless if stored properly. WHICH IS WHAT THE FACILITY WAS BUILT FOR.
>>254632Shouldn't Nevada have to pay back all the federal money invested into this?
We only spent 20 billion on yucca mountain, no point hauling anything there even though it's the ONLY PLACE IN THE COUNTRY where we are legally able to dump it.loool liberals.I guess we can just leave the waste in large pools right next to all reactors permanently lolit's not really waste anyways, but liberal regulations prevents recycling and reuse.
Shoot it into space!
>>254642 Just make sure it's shot away from earth, I don't want thousands of tons of nuclear waste circling over my head.
>NIMBY faggot opposes the best solution we have to the energy problem.I'd rather a Democratic Senate, but Reid has got to go.
>>254672Getting rid of Reid and Pelosi is the best thing the Democratic party could do for themselves right now.And for the nation.
