introducing the greatest genre....PROGRESSIVE ROCK
is there no way to post video without my words
it makes me sad, ebcuase the greatest genre needs better than half-asleep drunk ramblings of mine to accompany it. but what better time to listen when one is drunk and relaxing on a warm summr nightthere just isn't.
cant have prog without king crimson

>prog rock
where is Luke when you need him?
>>18932We had Kansas! And they're the most successful prog rock group ever! That's one for us Murrikans, right?...Uh, nevermind.>>18934Don't be too sure. Prog kind of mutated and slipped into other genres. Same thing with Punk in my opinion, but I'll leave the punk talk to people far more knowledgeable than I. Keep in mind, Prog is supposed to be music being taken into places it has never been (at least that's how I see it, I could be horribly wrong, and probably am, everyone is wrong when it comes to music), so it's not that Prog has died, it's just that there's new places to go. Or maybe I just have an incredibly loose definition of Progressive Rock. Hell, I consider Sonic Youth to be Progressive Rock, and I'm pretty sure I'd be scoffed and lose all credibility if I said that in any non-anonymous place. Also, Christgau is right, Radiohead is a prog rock band. This thread needs some more guitar though.Red is the best King Crimson album. While Progressive Rock is supposed to go to new places and do crazy things, it should never forget that it IS still rock, and Red acts accordingly. Starless is the best track, but it is far too depressing for our good friend comrade. So, have the title track.
>>18952Eh, prog rock is a pretty loose term. I view it as rock coming from classical, rather than traditional blues music. think zeuhl and eastern music rather than punk and metal, but the genre really encompasses all of it. heck, even post-rock could be considered an off-shoot, but I keep it on a different playlist than prog all the same. Sonic Youth could be prog, but it really depends on who you ask. the age of ten-minute pan flute and drum solos is kind of over, though. and no you have it all wrong in the wake of poseidon is the best kc albumRed, of course, is still a damn beautiful album and their most accessible. great for roping other people into the genre, too.
and damn, I really need to stop drunk-posting.
>>19012>wake of poseidonI can't help but feel like it was kind of a copy of In the Court.Aside from the Peace songs and Cat Food:Pictures of a City- 21st Century Schizoid ManCadance and Cascade- I Talk to the WindIn the Wake of Poseidon: EpitaphThe Devil's Triangle: MoonchildI dunno, maybe it's just me. Album is still great, though.
>>18927It amazes me I've never heard of this band, any more information?
