This thread is for POWER RANGERS
I can dig it.
Aw yeah! Dinothunder ROAR! Also have some links:http://www.youtube.com/user/powerrangerguyhttp://thatguywiththeglasses.com/videolinks/linkara/hopr/
>>14442Shit just got real
Love me my power rangers, Really wish we could get some Kamen Rider up in the states. South American Toonami gets some Kamen Rider
>>14455Dammit Bandai Why Horde all the good stuff overseas?Meaning why not make some Figuarts stuff for Super Sentai
Saban is back in the driver's seat for Power Rangers. http://bit.ly/94Iliy
>>14455Did you see how they adapted Ryuki for Kamen Rider: Dragon Knight? It was awesome.
>>14479YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!
>>14479>Saban takes back Power RangersAwesome>Airing on NicktoonsBetter than ABCkids.
>>14488 Hope that means the sweden gets it too!
Haim Saban has also stated that he wishes to bring the Power Rangers back to the big screen.:D
>>14479>Airing on NicktoonsOne step closer to being renamed ActioNick or something, but it's for the greater good if the new PR series doesn't end up like that shitty ABCKids thing they're currently airing.
Heh, I think this could be some interesting stuff going with this. http://online.wsj.com/article_email/SB10001424052748703339304575241174189409644-lMyQjAxMTAwMDEwMzExNDMyWj.html
My love for power rangers runs deep. If you cut me I spark and leap backwards. And SPD proved to me that all it takes to stomach the retardedness of it (old and new) is Ron Wasserman. With Shuki Levy writing it if possible.
>>14599> If you cut me I spark and leap backwards.
One thing I just realized. With Nick and Saban having a deal Power rangers will be on DVD.
>>14844Not a good one though, probably just those shitty DVD-Rs on Demand for the older shows.
Nice! And this is a good moment for posting this:http://atopfourthwall.blogspot.com/search/label/HOPRLinkara is doing a pretty good job reviewing Power Rangers.
>>14848>implying that Rips of shitty DVDs wouldn't be better than Rips from VHSDVDtransfers
You think we're gonna see another HOPR this week, or is everyone too busy with Kickassia?
>>14908You assume that they haven't already finished filming that like months ago.
>>14920No, I mean with promoting Kickassia, and as such no one else is gonna release anything for a while.Also,http://www.gaijinside.com/gaijin/?p=8816AWWWWWW SHIT HERE WE GO
>>14908>>14924Linkara said next one would be by the next week, since he doesn't want to overload his blog with videos or something.
RIP Rita :'<
So I just revisited In Space for the first time since it aired and holy shit does it hold up surprisingly well at times. There are really only two episodes I'd consider bad; the Ninja Turtles crossover episode (Fuck you Next Mutation!), and the episode where Adros save the retarded fish monster. Outside of that, each episode is pretty solid. Psycho Rangers were hands down the best part of the series. They're the only villains in the series that are always threatening and outside of the final battle, they were the closest to ever destroying the rangers this season. My only criticisms: Zhane's introduction was totally underwhelming and Zordon's heroic sacrifices in the end feels like a complete after thought considering just how vital it was, I mean, could we at least have been given a scene showing a monument?. Still, great season. Next week I'll get started on Ninja Storm and then I'll do Dino Thunder and I'll end with RPM.
>>15117 In Space remains my favorite season for a lot of what you just said.Andromeda was a FABULOUS villian who became a surprisingly intimidating one after the cyborg implants. The Psycho Rangers are awesome. Awesome enough that they brought them back twice in other seasons, though I can't remember which ones.
>>15130I believe Pink comes back for a bit in Lost Galaxy, but I'm pretty lost on that myself, too. As for Astronema, she's definitely one of the coolest big bads of the whole franchise. Ecliptor is what Goldar was in the beginning of Power Rangers, without falling down the path of comic relief that he got forced down. Hell, that scene where Darconda performs the surgery on him is pretty fucking chilling. Really glad I revisited and finally finished this series.
>>15140 Well I know three of them came back for one of the "team up" episodes that they got in the habit of doing, but I want to say the entire team came back at one point as well. It might've been in the Rescue themed series.Anyways, Ecliptor really was a great henchman, but the fact that he had a warrior-poet streak in him did wonders for his character too.And Psycho Silver remains one of the better ploys the Rangers have come up with to defeat a bunch of bad guys before.
While checking the Power Rangers wikia, I found this "controversy" in the Forever Red article.http://powerrangers.wikia.com/wiki/Forever_Red#ControversyControversy?More like winning/bullshit in my opinion. "Forbidden Episode" my ass.
>>15163Power Rangers fans give a huge shit about continuity? The fuck?
Link have updated his blog, IN SPACE!http://atopfourthwall.blogspot.com/
>>15190I loved how he used Queen's "Under Pressure" there, even if that Star Trek fella he mentioned and credited did it before.
>>15214 He was right, nothing else really would have done nearly as well there.
I have never watched a single Power Rangers series or movie, but it seems like a massive staple of everyone else in my generation and I feel like I've missed out on an important part of my childhood. Any recommendations?
>>15251 Episodes or seasons?
>>15251I'd say watch the old six season saga to start, but that really would take too much time. But hey, if you think you can do it, I'd say go for it.However, if you just want one of the non-connected series, I'd say go for Time Force. It has been a while since I saw the whole thing, but from watching a few episodes on Youtube again, I'd say it's still a lot of fun.
>>15258 >>15258 Time Force never really did much for me, though the Q-Rex was kinda awesome, also thought the Modular zords were pretty nifty. I found a lot of the cast to be kind of unlikable was part of the problem I think, didn't really like the civilian powers either. My suggestion would be to watch SPD. Which has Rangers out the yin yang. Hell, Doggie Cruger alone is reason to watch since he destroys 100 of the mooks of the week in a minute by himself. Literally. He's a lot more badass than he looks, really. All six of the original seasons were... well, as a whole they were pretty good, but there was a lot to suffer through as well. I would suggest In Space, but since that's the conclusion to six years worth of Rangers, it would probably not mean as much, even if the writing is arguably the best the show has had. (minus those damn ninja turtles)Watching Linkara go over Turbo makes me realize something... Divatox got away with a LOT of cleavage considering. I mean DAMN.
>>15251Honestly, I'd tell you to give Zeo and In Space a watch to start things off; if you have to choose one, go with In Space. Watch Linkara's videos to catch up on Mighty Morpin' and Turbo, MM because it's just that much to watch, and Turbo because it's just not worth it.From there I'd suggest: Lost Galaxy, Ninja Storm, Dino Thunder, and RPM. Forever Red and Once a Ranger are a must and Light Speed Rescue and Time Force I'd put down for extra credit if you get that hungry. Also: If you choose In Space, skip episode 4 (crossover with the Ninja Turtles that is the worst episode of the season) and "Andros and the Stowaway" which is just bland and all together unimportant.>>15214I think giving it the credit makes up for that fact. Plus the song is just really fitting for it all.
SPD or any of the newer seasons would give unfair expectations for the fight scenes. Dino Thunder started the trend but with SPD the fights became fucking insanity.
I'm just bumping this thread, I hope no one minds D:Also, big Ranger fan myself.I don't know what else to say.
Pffft, like anyone checks beyond the first page, Doom. Zeo has probably one of the most enjoyable openings.Edit: Man, it is getting to be a bitch trying to find a video that doesn't have imbedding disabled.
How can we not have posted this theme already?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mJgC9LEBTuQObligatory.hurr durr invalid video ID
>>16021Zeo has THE BEST theme.THE BEST. EVER. NOBODY CAN REFUTE IT.
>>16094 It's very closely tied to In Space for me.I'm not saying it isn't better, but it is veeeeeery close.
Lost Galaxy is up!http://atopfourthwall.blogspot.com/2010/06/history-of-power-rangers-power-rangers.html
>>16220 You know, looking through it like this, Lost Galaxy was better than I remembered. Then again, I still can't deal with the costumes or zords for this season, which were just goofier than fuck. Fuck yeah Magna Defender though.
Why do the LG ranger run the way they do? Why?!
>>16220Aw man. I stopped watching PR after Zeo, so it's really interesting to see what I missed out on. Dose Lost Galaxy villains, man... they seem great. As I was watching the review, I couldn't help but feel the real tragedy was that Trakeena and Deviot were merged together, thus leading to Trakeena betraying her mentor Villamax. And then they made Trakeena turn full insect, so she was no longer hot.Villains get no breaks, man.
>>16220FUCK YEAH LOST GALAXY! YOU WERE MY FAVORITE SERIES!
>>16227Yeah, I really didn't "get" Lost Galaxy. In fact, it may have been the show that turned me off Power Rangers. Also, I think the whole "Bulk & Phenomenus run a bar" in LG was really underdeveloped. I would've just had them and Skull in one scene in the first episode, trying to hock some tell-all book (or at least enjoying some form of celebritydom).
Bard wants me to watch Galaxy, and I'm totally willing, depite the fact that's were I stopped as a kid (which probably had more to do with my age and sleeping habits than the quality of the show)>>16220But this makes never want to touch the series ever again. God I hate that guy's videos.
>>16401Ditto, I dislike critics in all forms, but honestly man, I'm telling you, Galaxy is extremely worthwhile.
>>16401Why?Those are his most tame videos compared to his comic book crap.
>>16401Still, you should try to watch Galaxy.I know Linkara can be annoying in moments, but don't get discouraged by that.
I can never really get the Linkara hate on here and /coThen again, I managed to finish both seasons of Ben 10: Alien Force without stabbing myself in the eyes.
>>16229 probably left overs from Gingaman or something. >>16459 Honestly, I can't entirely understand it either. There are times that some of what he says irks me, but that's more the "well yeah, but it was the 90's, that's just how things WERE back then" sort of moments. Some of his criticisms are a little unjustified, but really, we should be able to ignore those moments.
Update!
Now that plus4 is back in track, there's a new Linakra's review, this time is Lightspeed Rescue!http://atopfourthwall.blogspot.com/2010/07/history-of-power-rangers-power-rangers.html
>>17437 Yeah, I shoude have been more clare on that.
>>16459Me too!We must be some form of advanced superhuman that cannot find anything in modern media truly horrible...Or we just have similar tastes.
Done with Time Force!Good but no Dino Thunder.Ending was a copout...
>>17651 Also Eric, Biggest dick in power rangers?
>>17651The ending seemed fine. It's the Wild Force crossover that's pure bullshit.
>>17681 The Big bad gave up do to babys being nice. Ugn...
>>17681 The Mutorgs or Forever Red?Because Forever Red is morphenomenal!...Yeah, Cole really was the absolute weakest link in that otherwise awesome episode. Sucks that HE'S the one they all turned to. Fuck that, Tommy, Jason, or Andros could have done it.Anyways, I only vaguely remember the Mutorg episode, but I seem to remember enjoying what happened to Ransik.
http://thatguywiththeglasses.com/videolinks/linkara/hopr/27567-powerrangerstimeforceAbout "TIME"!
Huh... Linkara just steps right into this one.I feel a little annoyed he didn't have more to say initially about the cast and setting.
