Probably the same way they did for the DVD redub (I think it's 8000 in that version, since that's what it was in the original version and Ocean change it to fit the lip flaps, but I don't think Funi needed to).

>>40643
I'm not sure if Kai is over yet, but I think the ending and crap is the same, they just took out all the standing around and scenes which weren't in the manga (you'd be surprised which ones are).

Also, you may eventually be able to just watch it on Funi's video site (or not, not sure how it works with series actually on TV).

Nah, FUNImation has stuck with the 9000 line in all versions thus far , unless they changed it in the Dragon Box (though I don't think they did since OVER 9000 was actually a line in the commercial for it.) Honestly I don't think they've done much to change the script since they did the "Ultimate Uncut" dub back in '05. Why keep rewriting the dub and spending money when you can just use an older one and make that much MORE off of it? Because really, that's all Dragon Ball Z is for the company anymore; the prized cash cow.

Anyways, I'm not crazy about Kai in Japanese to begin with, so I doubt I'll be watching this for much more that listening to the English versions of Dragon Soul and Yeah Break! Care Break!

Yes. FUNImation managed to some how make Dragon Ball GT worse that it actually was. If that rap wasn't bad enough, they cut out 20ish episodes worth of material, made the first episode a recap mixed in with a mediocre fight, and later released those cut episodes as "THE LOST EPISODES". Oh and all of the in show music was the same kind of shitty generic hip-hop bullshit as that video.

They're not being thorough because they don't have to, really. Kids aren't gonna give too much of a shit, and it's not like they're releasing this TV version on DVD. >>43255
Dunno, probably just nick being lazy.

Anyways, I'm honestly impressed with not only the dubbing, but how much Nick is letting by with these episodes. Blood is gone, but shit like farmer with the shotgun getting killed actually got left in. It's also nice to have the original score. The actual episode names are something I could've cared less about, but it's nice to see those kept in too. Gonna stick it out through the Saiyan arc (only 16/17 episodes!). The real test will come with the more emotional scenes, like death scenes, or Goku and Vegeta's big fight. If they can nail down the vocal performances there, I'm in this one for the long run.

There are two pieces of Faulconer's (don't even know if I'm spelling the name right) score that I actually like; the Super Saiyan 3 music and Super Saiyan Vegeta's theme. Yeah, Namek's actually more awesome than most people seem to give it credit for. It gives Vegeta a lot more character development (and is arguably his peak in the series as a character), Kuririn gets a few moments to shine and show that he's not COMPLETELY worthless, and there's even a bit of a theme about how relying on technology too much can be bad. And thankfully we don't get to see the filler in the arc this time around (because this is pretty much where all the really awful filler episodes happen).

Couldn't tell ya for the life of me. If I had to guess I'd say it's that that form is his natural state and the Meta Coolers were an extension of his real self, so his avatars would appear as he sees himself. Besides, it's not like they weren't powerful enough.

Also, holy shit is that species crazy broken. The can breath in space, survive mass amounts of damage (Freeza survived in the cold vacuum of space with only one arm, a portion of his torso, and a chunk of his head missing for a reasonably long period of time) and they're powerful enough that they need to use restrictive forms just so they don't lose control over themselves (and Freeza had to put on three of them). No.45129
>>45128
Maybe they used the planet bartering system as a way to track future threats and slaves? After the Saiyan-Tuffle War, if the wiki I read was right; Freeza apparently annexed the entire Saiyan race after they successfully conquered another planet and basically made them marauders until he blew up Planet Vegeta. So I guess it was just space piracy, take the loot of others, sell off their worlds and later blow up your past clients just to be a dick.

Eh, I'd always just assumed that Cold's organization (and I'm assuming that he's at the top) as a cross between a mafia gang and a tyrannical empire. They conquer and keep any planet they could actually use and sell off the rest to the highest bidder. After Cold and his forces didn't return back to their home base I'd assume the next guy on the totem pole would take over or that the organization would erupt into war over who would take over next. Not like Toriyama actually put that much thought into it anyways.

Most of the edits for other scenes were fairly graceful, but Vegeta killing Guldo looked completely nonsensical:

Vegeta originally cut of Guldo's head with a ki beam and then destroyed both his head and body.

Guess I'll have to look up the Japanese episode to check.

Are the dvds edited as well? I doubt it but I'm curious....

I'm sure the Nick/Funimation broadcast edits won't be there, but it is a good question if the Toei ones will be.

I'm pretty sure Toei's edits are still there.
Even in the Japanese DVDs and Blu-Rays there doesn't appear to be any apparent difference between the TV version besides aspect ratio.

Yeah, but it's not like Toei is putting much effort into this. If they were this would be made of completely new animation. This is just a quick way to breath new life into their international cash cow.

I like to pretend he was a worthless but magical frog to begin with

No.46676

The one thing we know about his previous forms is that all of them could talk, because using the power require it.

That's why he was stuck when he went into the frog's body; he couldn't talk anymore (and why, in the filler, he could take Bulma's body when she gave him the translator thing).

Devil horns, sure. But black horns, purple skin, with a huge head and black pointy fingernails? Christ, it even looks like Ginyu had his shiny dome and surrounding area ripped off with all those veins. Only thing he's missing is a tail.

Eh, Compared to the similarity between humans and saiyans, the cold-names race and Ginyu's don't even have a resemblance.

No.46865
>>46855
Well it's not the same shade of purple (it is the same as King Cold, but not Frieza's), Ginyu's body isn't segment, most Akira Toriyama character designs have large heads (and Ginyu's look more like a Saibaman's than Frieza), and Ginyu has regular ears instead of those headphone-like nodes on the side of his head.

No.46866
>>46855
It's worth noting that:
- The Cold family's true forms are supposedly the "Final form" Freeza uses and the other forms are meant to suppress their incredibly high power. It's possible that Freeza and Cold both used forms similar to Ginyu as a way of throwing off anyone who might recognize their true species, which might give opponents a false confidence or even throw off any potential rebels from staging an assualt on their home world. It would also explain why Freeza used such a radically different look for his penultimate form.
- Ginyu has ears, Freeza, Cold, and Cooler do not.

No.47600
Though most likely obvious by now, just throwing it out there there are the DVD set is definitely less tamed than I'm sure what Nick is showing. I noticed in the first couple episodes that Goku was throwing around plenty of "damn" and "damnits" where "darn" and "darnits" used to be.
That, and lots of "hell" from goodies and badies alike. They got rid of HFIL completely, and just call it Hell now. I always thought HFIL was clever, but I'm glad it got it's real name back. Though they cut that filler, so that's neither here nor there.

Toei DID edit scenes though, apparently to fit the newer censorship Japan has. I supposed they've gotten tighter since the 90s.
Genitals are the newest no-no. And for some reason, the scene where Piccolo fires the Makankosappo, Toei tamed the carnage. Also some little things, like Roshi's nudie mags. Toei kept his beer though, so if that's effed up, that's just Nick.

ONE MORE THING.
I guess Nick did a bad job remembering the Special Beam Cannon, since the DVD dub has it as Makankosappo for the two episodes he used it. I was surprised.

ALSO INTERESTING NOTE

Funi changed the old screaming over 9000 scene back to the calmer over 8000 on the DVD. Is it the same for Nick?

And does anyone know perchance if they're going to try covering EVERYTHING Z in just 100 episodes? Saiyan through Buu? Or are they just doing up to Cell or something

I can't remember whether it was 9 or 8, but I do remember is being fairly calm.

>And does anyone know perchance if they're going to try covering EVERYTHING Z in just 100 episodes? Saiyan through Buu? Or are they just doing up to Cell or something
Probably the whole thing in 100 episodes (maybe shorter). Currently in Japan, they've aired 67 episodes and just gotten to Kami and Piccolo fusing together and finding the time machine Cell showed up in.

For some reason I've never seen this move before. Hmmm.

Why does everybody have American accents if it's a British dub? Beyond that, I suddenly feel like for all its faults, the old Funimation dub is closer in spirit to the original DBZ than this.

Raging Blast 2 will include a remake (actually redrawn, not Kai-style remaster) of Plan to Eradicate the (Super) Saiyans.
Funimation won't be dubbing it, though, it will only be available subbed in-game.
The story of this old animation based on an old NES game will also make an impact in-game!
