So how about dem evangelions ehHow are the new movies? I've been really wanting to see them.
New movies are pretty damn good. Weirdest part is they might have some ties to the original series as they go on.
>>39811OH FUCK WHAT
I saw the first one in theatre, it was pretty great. Like >>39809 said it's really unclear if and how it fits into the animu canon. I don't know if it was just the compressed timespan but I also thought Shinji was much less annoying and I actualy FUCK YEAH'd at the HUGE ASS FUCKING SNIPER RIFLE scene. End was pretty :3 too.
Still can't beat RETAKE!
>>39811Evangelion, Endless 8 edition.
>>39816At this point, it's best to consider the Rebuild of Evangelion as an alternate continuity. Especially after you see Evangelion 2.0: You Can (Not) Advance. After a certain point, shit goes completely off the rails from the original show; there's even an all-new EVA pilot.>>39820As much as I like the new Rebuild films, this is pretty much the truth.
>>39820Yeah, but what can?Anybody know which is the boxset what contained the series + EoE? Reading Shinji&WH40K has been making me nostalgic for it. (Even though I STILL haven't watched EoE in b4 gigapoke slowgann)Also lookit what I found.
>>39830I get the feeling it's gonna have some weird link to the original canon though, as >>39811 pointed out. It might be some RE-TAKE-ish thing, like an alternate timeline with links to the original. All I know is that I'm looking forward to the ending greatly.
>>39833So far, none of them, at least in the U.S. There's been a two-pack release of Death & Rebirth with EoE, but that's about it.I'm waiting for them to release the remastered EoE over here, myself. When that'll be, I have no idea.
>>39835Really? Dang. Oh well.
>>39835Manga Entertainment lost the rights to the original Eva movies, and ADV (who held the rights to the series) is defunct now, so the only chance for a full-on Evangelion boxset now is for Funimation to somehow get their hands on the rights to the series and the original movies.
>>Yeah, but what can? An animated version *of* RE-TAKE?
>>39892What- I- STOP MAKING ME WANT THINGS THAT ARE CANNOT HAVE
>>39892 >>39894 RE-TAKE wasn't that great, guys. I mean, it was good, but it was good in a "this fanfiction is good" sort of way: It may be written well, but it's still a fanfiction. Also, I didn't like the Asuka/Shinji romance. I feel like shipping Evangelion characters is sort of missing the point.
>>39906>Also, I didn't like the Asuka/Shinji romance. Are you saying Shinji/Rei is better? You motherfucker.
>>39909 No, I'm saying that none of them should be shipped. At all. They're all too fucked up to love. That's why all attempts at a relationship in the show go south. I guess that wouldn't stop them from actually TRYING, but I would not expect any of them to ever be happy. Let's face it, the cast really did need 3rd Impact. Of course, I'm pretty sure Shinji and Asuka will be the only people on Earth for a long, long time.
>>39811Is that image implying the implication i think it's implying?
>>39910Bitches don't know bout my son's bright future.
>>39910That's kind of the point of fanfiction, dude.
eh
Call me weird but I always found this strangely heartwarming
>>39961>>39962Bro, you've posted the same vid twice.
>>39910But that's completely against Eva's whole message. I've always seen it as despite how messed-up, how completely fucked in the head you are, there's always a chance for redemption. See >>39961Unless you're talking about during the series. Then I totally agree with you.
>>39961Pretentious, PHI 1000 bullshit wrapped up in a scarce amount of music.
>>39974Shit my bad
>>39985And see also, this quote from Yui in EoE:>All living things have the ability to return to their original form... and the heart to go on living. Anywhere can be heaven as long as you have the will to live. After all, you're alive...and you can find the chance to achieve happiness anywhere.
Eva videos? Here's my favorite.WUH WUH WUH WUH WUH
I love having excuses to post this.
A classic.
>>39833HOLY SHIT EPISODE 4
>>40035I know right? Though I preferred episodes 6 and 9 myself.
>>39833I forgot all about these guys, last one I saw was the episode about Jet Alone. Fuck me they're awesome.
>>40065Actually, turns out I'd already seen episode 8 and forgotten it aside of >there's your mind screwbut oh well.
Also in Evangelion Abridged:In episode 9, Shinji apparently likes the Baccano soundtrack. Guess he's not a COMPLETE headcase.
>>40035>Episode 4 huh? Let's check it out.>HOLY FUCKING TITS WHAT AM I SEEING?I have the immense urge to shop together a movie poster for "Shinji Goes on a Beer Run."
>>39833>Even though I STILL haven't watched EoE in b4 gigapoke slowgannI was in pretty much the same boat. I watched the series when it was on Adult Swim in (when was that?) then didn't see End until last year (and after I'd had pretty much every part of it spoiled).
RIGHT FOOT RIGHT STOMPLEFT FOOT LEFT STOMPNGE Abridged is officially an awesome series.
Well, there's like 12 different Abridged series for Eva, but this is the only funny one this is the only one that uses footage from Rebuild that I found.By the way, how would you guys be up for watching EoE on easter? The reason I haven't watched it is that it really feels like something you should watch with friends. We were supposed to do it on Christmas 2008 on tvwhoring before it died but I missed it.
>>40090That would be the most fucked up Easter I've ever had.Which is to say, yes. If I'm not planning on doing something with my family that day, that is.
>>40069DO IT FAGGOT
Is rebuild 2 out in proper quality?
>>40141>Rebuild 2>outAHAHAHA
>>40142A simple no would suffice
Um, well, you know, I do happen to have a subbed camrip of 2.0 that we could watch.
>>40258>Camrip I don't think anyone here is THAT desperate.
>>40259I didn't think the quality was that bad. I dunno, it's up to you guys.
>>40261I'm staying clean of 2.0 until the dub comes out.
>>40291Ditto. I waited for the first one, I can wait for the second.
>>40028Holy crap I cannot stop listening to this. It's like some mixed crack, heroine, and LSD and injected it right into my ears.
So, anyone up for it tomorrow?
>>40605Plans to visit grandma have been canceled due cold, so probably.
>>40605What time would it start?
>>40608I'm guessing around 6pm est-ish. Don't want to go on too late.(And providing I can get the livestream procaster thing working properly. I tried it today and it seemed to work but still)
>>40306It's definitely one of the best mashups of all time. it took two great songs, and combined them in such a way that each covered the holes in the other's musical pattern that you didn't even realize were there until you heard them fixed.
>>40618So are we still on? And if so where's your Livestream?
>>40642Yeah, in 2 hours or so.http://www.livestream.com/thebattlepike
Starting soon, if anyone wants to come.
Yay, that was fun. Even if only 3 people showed up.Let's do it again sometime.
>>40662 Yeah well as I said you needed the main event. It was easter, give them a break, try again and I'm sure it'll go better next time.
Can someone give me the short version of what each of the movies are? I've only watched the full series and have been meaning to watch the movies but I always forget which ones are which. Though I always remember End of Evangelion is apparently the alternate ending that was made for people who didn't like the original.
>>41012End of Evangelion is what was happening in the physical world around the time of InstrumentalityEpisodes 25 and 26 are what was going on in the minds of the characters during Instrumentality.Death and Rebirth is a clipshow of the series and the first 30 or so minutes of End.Rebuilds 1.0 and 2.0 are retellings? of the series in SHINY NEW ANIMATION. Only 1.0 has been released and dubbed, for 2.0 there's only a camrip.
>>41029So is Death and Rebirth basically pointless if I've seen the series and plan to watch End of Evangelion?
>>41031as a person who has seen it? Yes.
Okay, so I just finished End of Evangelion. Was this supposed to explain or give more detail about the series or just be another big mind-fuck with a "you think about how it ended" ending? Because if it was the former then I think I missed probably everything.
>>41642General consensus on Evangelion is "if you think you got it, you clearly missed something."
>>41643It's confusing but explainable. See: evageeks
>>41642Honestly I think Evangelion is something that should be interpreted differently by each person.
>>41644The part the eva geeks never mention is that the more you explain it, the more idiotic it sounds. Eva is not a well-plotted show.
>>39811Don't even worry about it :3
bumping because apparently people don't realize we already have an EVA thread.
So I just finished watching through Rebuild 2.0 and I gotta say... that may have been one of the best things I've ever seen in my life. I honestly don't think I can ever go back to the old series after seeing that.
Has there been any news on 3.0 yet? I've heard it will be called You Can (Not) Survive which... really undoes the hopeful feeling provided in 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone...I still maintain high hopes that, even though I like this incarnation of them, Shinji and Rei will be stuck in Unit 01 until the climax, and the film instead focuses on the interactions between characters like Mari, Kaworu, and Touji, and maybe them fighting revised versions of the Angels that didn't show up in 2.0Because honestly? The last three angels seemed to be designed solely to make sure that the three children were nice and fucked up for the finale, and nothing else. I mean Arael's only function seemed to be to make sure Asuka is nice and insane, Zeruel already stole Armisael's whole gimmick, and I have no idea what Kaworu's goals are this time around.
>>42364I sort of felt the same way. That scene at the end between Rei and Shinji was fantastic. At DOSE RUNNING EVAS
>>42368I haven't heard anything yet, but that is totally what I called my last Adeptus Evangelion campaign.I do actually hope to see more of Mari, I was wary about her at first but I ended up finding her to be a fairly likable character.
Is there a non cam torrent of 2.0 yet?And I know I kinda missed the whole thread but so far the movies seem to be trying to give all the frustrated fans what they wanted in the first place, while still keeping what was good about the original. Basically, alot less depressing, but I'll have to see how it ends before I really make that judgment
There isn't, but apparently it'll get released in japan on DVD within the next month or so. So we shouldn't have to wait too much longer.
>>42403Yeah, everyone's so much... saner. It's great.
torrent's out
>>43003What.
>>42449Honestly, I think I like the original series + EoE better. If only for being what was originally created. If it wasn't for all the characters' craziness and the hopeless bad end the show wouldn't have been nearly as good.
Pen-Pen gets ALL the bitches.
Assload of fanservice.
I just watched 1.11 and 2.22. The former was just episodes of the show pasted together and about 15 seconds of new content. The latter was pretty good.
So is that little bit after the credits still all we have of 3.0?I just downloaded a better translation of 2.22 and I'm sort of obsessing :/
>>43837Yes. But fortunately it's supposed to be coming out later this year. Also spoiler tags? It's been out for a while so I'm not sure.
>>41646It's like Victorian Era literature: there's enough weird, unresolved, and erronious stuff there that most people can just say Everyone is Jesus In Purgatory and take it as they want.Personally, I see it as a postmodernist deconstruction of the Super Robot genre: a fucked up 90's Gundam by way of Ideon and Gainax's eternal otakudom. Given the way Anno allegedly rides Tomino's nuts, it makes about as much sense as anything else. Hell, he's even making shiny new condensed movie versions, like what they did to Gundam and Zeta.
oh god what
>>43859Oh god, I just bricked a shit.
>>43859I don't see shit.
>>43862
hahaohgod
Is she looking at herself?
>>43863Oh jesus my pants
