Hmmm.
Wait, what?
What is this I don't even...
Wands are guns now. Go figure.Wait hang on was that the Crucio spell?
You see, this is why I never really grasped the appeal of the franchise.A mediocre 3rd-person shooter is fine, but why the hell would I want to play it as a dorky British highschooler in a purple hoodie attacking street thugs with ill-defined blobs of light? They're even color-coded... Hell, that wand twirling looks like a conductor having a seizure. Shouldn't the idea of playing as a wizard conjure up ideas of Gandalf, Dr. Strange, Lina Inverse, or (hell) even Rincewind? Somebody with style and/or personality, wielding the destructive powers of the arcane in some fantastical setting?
That doesn't seem too bad.
HA HA HA HA HA OH WOW.>>88361YEAH IT WAS.
pew pew pew pew. So how long till we see the hidden auto wand or chain wand weapons?
>>88362Reading that, I just realised how awesome an action-oriented Ricewind game would be. It could be a speed-oriented platformer, and every level would be running from a new monster/army/mob/god/volcanic eruption over a new piece of cruel and unusual geology.
Those spells sound a lot like lasers, Harry.>>88366It would be like Dino Run!
>>88368>>88366I even got a name: Run like the Rincewind! Also, these wizards are worse than stromtroopers. They should teach some marksmanship in that school.
Harry Potter and the kingdom of PEW PEW PEW PEWI think the lego harry potter game my dad's play is a better game than this is looking to be.
>>88366>>88368>>88370Any other character and I would scoff, but Rincewind has run from some serious shit in his time. Throw in some "run here to cause a lucky chain of events to stop the monster" type stuff and you're gold.
>ZAP MOTHERFUCKER.jpgFrom an RPG on the Gameboy Color to a next-gen Gears of Hogwarts. It's rather strange seeing Harry do any kind of magic spells considering he just deus ex machinas his way through all the books.
>>88374Heh he's still bullshitting his way through life ten years later since he never learned dick about advanced magic practices.
wand fights were normally like gun fights.Wizard Duels weren't.
Flipendo! Flipendo! Flipendo!>>88361Supposedly, the developers are trying to find some way to discourage use of Crucio, like giving a benefit to not using it. It didn't sound like they had any particularly good ideas, though.
>>88377 Is there a button to tip your glasses to greet other students and teachers?
I'm kinda surprised they were so quick to do a video game adapatation of Garth Ennis' "The Potter".
i like that the game is set in south africa
>>88394do we need a Vuvuzela sound mod then?
>Gears of Wars with wands
>>88402NUMBER 83! THE RON TRAAAAAAIN!!!!!
So yeah.>>88361>>88364>>88379What's the deal with the Crucio?
>>88411It's a spell that causes excruciating pain. I think you find out in The Goblet of Fire that Neville's parents had it cast on them until they went insaneSuffice to say, it's considered one of the Unforgivable Curses for a reason.>>88372I was debating getting that. Apparently the Lego games have a good track record, and the game features all of the good books (before the suck set in), so...
>>88413 It's got a weird streak of humor that I think its target audience misses, intentionally.
It doesn't seem feasible, but I wish there was a more creative way to use spells in this game. Like, turn their legs to jelly and make a nearby armoire come to life and attack them. Or, some system to quickly recall a happy memory to make a patronus. Or a story that involves clever puzzles and dialogue options to get what you want (information, an item) - but this is probably the least feasible of all since everyone in the world has read the books and knows all the answers. Point is, making a Harry Potter FPS is taking the basest option available.
>>88429>Point is, making a Harry Potter FPS is taking the basest option available.Good thing theyre not making an FPS then
>>88429It's been ages, but I'm fairly certain that both Sorcerer's Stone and Chamber of Secrets on the PC were FPS. I don't know about after that though, since after that when I'd pick one up (something I did habitually until Order of the Pheonix) it would be on a console.
>>88435 I think those were more platformers than anything else
>>88436Not really. Sorcerer's Stone maybe, since that used a dedicated jump button and the only way to fight was FLIPENDO FLIPENDO FLIPENDO, but Chamber of Secrets was about puzzles and fighting.
They should just make it an RPG, except since there's only one class you can focus on really perfecting the mechanics of it. You make your own wizard, you become a student at Hogwarts, and instead of Deus Ex Machina-ing your way through seven books you have to work at it.I can imagine your character standing over Voldemort's corpse with a bloody Beater's bat and all hopped up on Unicorn Blood.
>>88438That sounds like a Fallout 3 mod actually.
>>88438well there are the Jobs that you could use as specializations in the later years.
>>88432ah, you know I meant a shooter. Like everyone else already said, I see nothing in these trailers except PEW PEW.One way to make Crucio unappealing is to, without informing the player, create an alternate ending/plotline wherea now-sadistic Harry goes mad with powerand takes control of the government for the greater good.
>>88447Ron argues with Harry that what he's doing is wrong, it turns violent, Ginny gets caught in the crossfire and dies. Ron vows revenge and becomes Magical Batman.
>>88450 But... b-but it has to be the other way around, so that Ron can become WIZARD JOKER with a fetish for his brothers' style of magic joke shop trickery.
>>88472He's right. Anything that leads to Magical Batman could never be a real bad end.
>>88472>>88475Hermione confirmed for Harvey Dent? And Ron acts out The Killing Joke by shooting Luna Lovegood in the stomach and taking her father to an abandoned carnival near HogsmeadeHoly crap, it's all falling into place... IT'S ALL FALLING INTO PLACE!Although Neville would make a better Magical Batman than Harry because he actually has some trauma related to their "death," and reacts to seeing the Cruciatus Curse the same way Bruce does whenever anyone mentions Zorro, parents, or pearl necklaces.
>>88477
More like Magical Justice League. Or maybe Magical Batfamily. There's like a million Weasleys, after all. >>88477MY PARENTS ARE MAAAAAAAAAAAAD!
>This thread.I love you guys.
Coming around full circle, the latest Harry Potter game sucks because Magical Batman doesn't like curses.
Along the lines of the whole Crucio thing, apparently one of Harry's spells is Confringo. It causes explosions. It's how Peter Pettigrew blew up like 12 people.
how does wizard society even exist instead of being an anarchistic deathrally 24/7
>>88573Any evil wizard is only allowed to mount a insurrection upon the current order every ten years or so depending on power base. Its all in the charter.
Dementors look like 5 buck big lots tree ghosts
>>88575
>>88573In all reality, it shouldn't. Rowling is a very creative individual (in that she stole the entire book series from The Books of Magic), but she can't build a world for shit. Every time she expanded on the wizarding world it made even less sense than before.I think it was /sp/ that had an entire thread on Quidditch, using that as a basis to show how Harry Potter's world just wouldn't work.
>>88590more than the fact that from the start it was explained to be a blood sport. Heck I saw 3 and 4 to be the best at starting to explain the world and go more into that..well fuck that and then..nada
