I stole some rail from that bridge I built earlier. It totally works. Up isn't as fun as Down is, though.

Okay, is there like, a comprehensive Redstone tutorial somewhere? I typically try to go at this game with trial and error, but this shit just confuses me.

I wasn't very interested in restone, so all I used it for was to build a path from my spawn hut to my lake base.
Although that's been rendered obsolete with my badass rail bridge connecting the two buildings.

My minecart shaft hit lava.

I'm going to have to build a sky tower so I can climb up this high all the time.

Minecraft has really let me live out my childhood obsession with buildings connected via underground tunnels and my teenage obsession with buildings connected via aboveground catwalks.

Trying to upgrade the standard canal system with flowing water. It's a lot faster and you can just let the boat drift through it.

Could use a better item then switches to block the water though. They make that annoying click as you pass them and worse, debris from crashed boats will sit on them.

My latest project is the SKY TOWER.
It's going to go all the way up with a glass viewing room.
I've excavated the lakebed surrounding the tower so it will be perfectly safe to jump off of.

Such humble beginnings.
And now I don't even use the hut anymore now that the highway provides relatively safe transport from the hut to the other buildings.
The game's fault for always spawning me on the roof rather than inside.

IT IS COMPLEEETE.
So much coal and wood was used to make all that stone and glass.
Towers are great. I love that you can build over the clouds.

Remember, don't fuck with people's shit. Ore in caves is fair game, but people are stockpiling iron/gold ore on the surface for when furnaces work again. It's suggested you make your own pile wherever you set up camp.

Yeah, sorry about that. Minecraft crashed. Apparently, you can make clay blocks! But putting them in your inventory will make SMP freak the fuck out. Four stacks of stone, gone.

The Sky Tower now has a glass viewing room of sorts.
My next goal is to explore the cave system near Sky Tower Lake. It's size is staggering, and there's still so much more to explore.

Being the king of being easily sidetracked, I built a bridge to connect my island with that mysteriously huge continent and then named the two landmasses Birth Island and Mysteria.
Basically all my structures are labelled with signs.
Signs are great.

So what do you think, /cog/? Can it be done in Alpha?

It would be easy in Creative, what with the omnipresent light, and the ability to use obsidian, but...

I'm thinking it could be a hollow cobblestone sphere, the black squares being where there's nothing/glass on the face, giving a small window into the dark sphere, giving the illusion of blackness, while lava provides glowing eyes, and iron blocks, the teeth, but...if it's staring down at you, how do you see the details? It would provide shade for its own face, making it look like a huge black circle.

But if you dotted it with torches to illuminate it, well, you'd be able to see the torches, and that is lame.

How do?

Anonex, there are some really cool anomalies up north. Weird lines of light underwater, bordered by pitch-black areas. And right of the spawn there's this little block that... Yeah, you'll recognize it when you see it.

The rail bridge is compleeeete.
Now I can start using the iron I mine for things that are probably more important like tools and armour.
There is a few blips when it comes to how low the spawn hut is compared to the other buildings the bridge connects.
Clearly I should rebuild the bridge and make the hut taller.

Gyargh. I decided to explore Mysteria and found a way cool tunnel deep in it. I was doing well, and even bested a dungeon, when I heard, but didn't see a spider.
After searching the area, I decided it must be inside the walls and tried to dig, only to be attacked from behind and killed.
So much iron and I have no idea how to get back to iiit.
Better stick to Birth Island mining for now.

  This makes me want to rebuild my island, but this time make the rail bridge connect directly into the minecart shaft's rail to the bottom, and then go to a second minecart shaft to climb back up and connect to the pond house to create one big loop.

i had a dream about minecraft. it showed me how to solve a problem i've been having with my ice which could actually work. it also showed me building a ridiculously huge hanger like structure. who am i to disobey my dreams?

So I was innocently sealing off a crafting room in the front of my mine when I noticed an odd black area on the ceiling.
I broke off the square next to it there was more black so I mistakenly thought it was simply a barren bit of night sky I had missed.
When I placed dirt to cover it, I died.
Needless to say I was confused and a bit angry but I wasn't that far from spawn so there wasnt too much of a problem.
When I got back to where I had died my stuff was no where to be found.
I safely stood away from the deadly black area that still existed and smashed at it.
It was a boat
Embedded in the ceiling of a mountain
And it ate my items.
