So, remembering vaguely from the last thread, the Asari do not breed with other species, so much as they use their genetic structure as a template for sploicing up their own child's. But that doesn't explain the apparent damage to the Asari's own DNA.

When fighting Collectors with Samara or Mordin, Harbinger will comment on the "fragility" of the Asari genetic code, citing the reliance on other species for genetic randomization.

No.79403
One interesting piece of information: if the Salarians wanted to test a genetically diverse species, they'd be better off importing a couple chimpanzees than kidnapping humans. Some studies of areas on the X chromosome of humans and chimpanzees indicate that overall genetic diversity is higher in chimpanzees than in humans.

No.79411
>>79401
Well, it's fragile, but I wouldn't call that damage. And to be honest, all Asari need is DNA randomization. One of the NPCs in the game commented to that, "Radiation would do the same thing."

>>79409
I haven't tried it out. I can't get excited about new equipment, especially when I've played through the game four times now. Gimme an expanded romance DLC and we'll talk. (Yeah, I like my dating sim, thankyouverymuch)

No.79422

I'm planning on dropping some points on it in a couple of days. Really looking forward to it. My only complaint about the armor is the stats. I imagine it would almost make playing the game too easy, but then again, it would give me a reason to try a nightmare-mode playthrough. The aesthetics are absolutely marvelous, though.
>>79411
To elaborate on this, the asari race reproduce with electrical impulses and a melding of the nervous systems, and they use this bond to explore the genetic heritage of their partners. It's more of a "survival of the fittest" thing, since the asari joining allows them to choose the beneficial genetic traits of another species to pass on to their offspring. So really, it's more of an advantage than anything. A pureblood asari is just a genetic rehashing of the species' usual traits.

No.79423
>>79422
Another note: This is why most asari choose not to breed with humans, since most of our short history has been spent developing our genes instead of perfecting them.

No.79716

Oh god, the satisfaction of hearing the "chi-thuk" and seeing that clip pop out while your headless victim is still falling down in the background is THE BEST FEELING.
Personally I prefer tech to biotic. Incineration and AI Hacking are the most useful skills ever. Not to mention having a dronebro to help you out on the field.

No.79718
>>79716
I miss some of the ME1 Infiltrators skills like Overload, but Incineration does have that wonderful achievement where you make 20 enemies die screaming on fire.

It's also pretty nice to line up a shot and wait until your target springs out of cover just to get a bullet in the face. Or shoot them in the ass while they hide, that's always nice too.

ITT: Infiltrator wank.

No.79720
>>79718
Well, you could always look into Advanced Training and add Overload to your set of skills.
And I always try to bring heavy hitters with me on missions. Biotics throw the enemies around too much, and techs are show-offs most of the time. Soldiers know how to keep the opposition hiding, which makes those brief moments when they come out of cover excellent chances for headshots (or buttshots, if the situation calls for it).

No.79721
>>79720
Normally I always try to bring Garrus with me. Heavy Concussive Shot will knock people off platforms when required, (Woot, Rail Killing!) and his assault rifle does wonders. As much as I like ME/ME2, it will never replace Star Wars in my heart, and I really doubt it'll be popular enough for this "new generation" to be old enough to buy it. Just like the Star Wars saga, these games have their own glaring flaws, but the overall quality causes most players to overlook them (or, in many cases, laugh at them). But it will never become as big or as well-loved as Star Wars is, because there's always some shiny new toy for the younger gamers to fawn over.

>April 12 (Bloomberg) -- Cerberus Capital Management LP, the private-equity firm whose takeover of Chrysler Corp. ended in bankruptcy, agreed to buy defense contractor DynCorp International Inc. for about $1 billion.

>Cerberus, run by Steve Feinberg, will pay $17.55 a share, Falls Church, Virginia-based DynCorp said today in a statement. The price is 49 percent more than DynCorp’s closing share price on the New York Stock Exchange on April 9. The deal, expected to close in the third or fourth quarter, is valued at $1.5 billion including the assumption of debt.

I'd love to see some viral marketing commercials for a Mass Effect movie that play out like a documentary following human soldiers in space so people can get more information on the backstory and "science" of the universe. Like little videos that work as a movie preview in theaters. One video could be an interview of a gunner for a dreadnought and how he says theres so much pressure not to miss because of the consequences involved if you do while explaining mass and acceleration with the impact and stuff. Or another video at a firing range explaining how the guns work compared to modern day guns and stuff. Like you see a collector holding an "antique" modern day weapon and show how much more powerful a similarly sized weapon is with and he holds up a round fired by the mass effect weapon with some tweezers under a magnifying glass.

I feel as though people really need to *get* how the universe works to get the full experience. Most sci-fi movies just use spray painted airsoft guns to make it look more "futuristic" but a second glance shows how the gun isn't advanced at all. Or they just change the sound effects to make it sound high tech when it really isn't. That always bugged the hell out of me in Starship troopers, Alien, Doom, Avatar, Serenity, etc. This is a future setting that DOESN'T use lasers. It has more "hard" science than most any other popular sci-fi setting out there

It was a railroading tactic to get the plot in the second game moving. The Mass Effect series is largely cinematic, so even if they downsized the plot in ME2, they needed the resurrection device to give a reason for why Shepard would even consider working with Cerberus. Was it cheap? Yes. Was it unnecessary? Yes. They could have used more expository means to reach their end, but since Mass Effect is a story told in a combined third/first-person narrative, they did need to keep some information about the plot and Cerberus' involvement concealed, and the death of the main character was the best and most efficient way to accomplish that and quickly get to the action.
I don't agree with their storytelling technique in the second game, but it cuts out the plot's elevator rides.

What you have to understand is that the second game needed a certain level of immersion to be able to include new players. Sure, you lose your progress from the first game, but the choices you made are still there, showing that you had an impact on the story. That's as much as one can expect from an RPG sequel. It's not DLC, it is its own game.

No.81498
You know, when I heard that Shepard got brought back to life in ME2, I figured Shepard died at the end of ME1, and then was brought back by Cerberus for ME2. They even did a fakeout for it in the ending of ME1! I think that would have been better.

No.81500
You know, I would be more pissed about the review, if it didn't smack of self satisfaction to the degree it does. He's very polite, but the overall smug attitude doesn't help.
It also loses some of its impact when he raises a point, and then shows the corresponding scene in the game... where it explains itself. Did he just... like completely miss the point of some of that? Was he too busy being superior to notice them?
There are very minor things that I DO agree with, but overall, it feels as if he doesn't get the "game" portion of the equation.
Even beside that, he seems to be missing the point of knowing about the world to fill some spots in since the team worked really hard in making a deep and immersive world.

And his complete lack of suspension of disbelief really annoys me. How did Shep come back from the dead? Science. Yeah, but HOW?... Science. There isn't a real NEED to go further than that. This is a game that's broken the laws of physics by going FTL, what more do you expect from them?

(Please note, I am well aware of the irony of calling him smug when I'm bitching about his bitching.)

I noticed this as well and it's why I stopped watching the first video half way through. That and his desire for as already said, the detailed explination of how his body survived after going into space.

If he thinks the story is dumb then fine, that's his opinion and everybody has one. But he certainly doesn't seem to know why he doesn't like it.

No.81525
>>81500>>81523
Well the Mass Effect fields using dark matter and stuff is mostly based off of modern day theory that has yet to be proven. There are already many parts of the universe and galaxy that doesn't make any sense under our own laws of gravity. For example our own galaxy is too large to even exist by the current laws we know (think) to be true. Dark matter theories are sorta meant to fill in those holes and Mass Effect is supposed to be "hard science fiction" with that is to be assumed to be the most accurate portrayal of space travel and firearms of the future.

You must remember at one point people thought StarTrek was Hard Science Fiction and was the most accurate portrayal of the future.

So yeah... Mass Effect=Theories that a scientist can explain

Just my two cents anyway. But the resurrection of Shepard felt a little TOO out there to really work. How do you bring someone back to life if their brain is completely decomposed and/or burned to a crisp? You'd just be making a mindless body with no memories

>How do you bring someone back to life if their brain is completely decomposed and/or burned to a crisp?

Oh well.

Apart from that? Brilliant. The Hammerhead is great as usual, and the level design really let it shine. Aite's environment looked absolutely gorgeous. >Main story? Complete shit. It makes no sense and accomplishes almost nothing in the grand scheme of things.

And the reason for this effect? It's the middle story in a trilogy (not counting the ME spinoffs that will be milked).

And the plot and story of a middle tale in a true trilogy is ALWAYS the weakest, because its just there to tie together the first and last tales. And since plot and story are the crux of RPG elements, that results in a weaker game.

Keep in mind: I mean a TRUE trilogy, where 3 elements are actually part of a pre-planned story overarc. Books are usually written as true trilogies, while films that claim to be trilogies are really just movie reboots that came in threes. (See: Karate Kid, Indiana Jones, ect. Good series, yes, but not all TRUE trilogies)

Mass Effect 2 does fucking nothing however. It doesn't connect shit, and being forced to either destroy the base or give it to FUCKING CERBERUS (who you work for with NO COMPLAINTS despite fighting them all the time in the first game) is just stupid.

No.87491
>>87484 >>87486

It's a plot point. It doesn't do anything BECAUSE its JUST a plot point, not a development in itself. ME2 just advances you enough to setup for ME3, by dolling out set pieces with no big context. That sounds pretty close to what you're describing, espcially with your Gears of War comment.

And no: The fact that it's the 2nd in a trilogy doesn't make it BAD. It just means than in terms of plot progression, its inheriently the weakest of the three. The characters progress the least compared to their introductory and climatic presentations in the first and third.

Books are a better example than films, but most of the books I can think of also suffer from Trilogy Creep, which complicates things.

That surprises me. /v/ must be hard gay for Garrus, when I grabbed the set it was 333 images. And i think there's a 2nd set of garrus out there.

I don't think this is necessarily ALL the action figs. I don't see why they wouldn't make all of the main characters. Maybe not Kasumi and Zaeed since they're DLC (which would suck, I would KILL to have a Zaeed figurine) but c'mon... This is the kind of shit you know ME fans are going to eat up like fat kids on chocolate cake. It's guaranteed money.

I seem to recall Bioware stating that this is merely the first wave of figures and more were to come. Could be wrong, though.
