What purpose would a second mouth serve is probably a better question. I think that the upper one would actually be a better choice for the true mouth, even though it's smaller, because I think it'd have a stronger bite then? You could bypass the smaller jaw thing if it were to open up like a snake's, and the lower mouth would have no patella but it might not need one because it might be used for something else entirely, like smelling.

Because it appeals to people on a number of levels. Often at the same time. Most people can find something they like about it.

The story structure itself is full of callbacks and tons of zany shit and inside jokes. Until fairly recently, there was also a great of consumer input, with the now closed suggestion box. The story has gotten enough steam on its own that we really don't need it anymore.

On that note, Hussie knows his audience. He loves to give us what we don't expect. This intimacy with the audience gives the possibility that any update could be a message of some kind to the fans.

The writing is good, and Hussie makes likable characters, even the ones we hate.

The art is always effective, and even when sketchy, it is never confusing. At its best, it is amazing, at its worst, it is still effective.

The music is pretty good. Its catchy as hell.

The combination of art, sound, and animation is a step above what most people expect from a webcomic.

He normally updates at a maddening pace, which never leaves us too far away from our F5 keys. We really are rather spoiled.

It only really started getting popular with the troll arc, which brought in alot of the shipping crowd with its relationship drama(the only bad thing about that arc if you ask me)

I think a big part of it is especially the likable characters and how aesthetically pleasing the art is. The sprites are simplistic enough to project your own styles into the characters.

I agree, it's really quite great. And I'm no artist but I have been reading all my life, critically so for half of it, and Hussie's got a rather unique style of writing that's both technically excellent and fantastically playful. The style in which he does the comic is really simple and leaves much to the imagination so I imagine it's quite natural for artists to want to draw their own interpretation. Especially since he does such outlandish and fascinating landscapes and buildings.

That said, I'm still glad for the less polished art it inspires because well, I may not be saving them but I'm sure more than one of the artists I tend to gloss over could really grab me in the future.
