Thread 42 >>84919IRC is @ espernet #bluhbluhPost if you want any help or guides because we so awesome, it is unreal, and we would like to share our awesome conversations with you. Really.
The 3D modelers on the forums are very cool dudes.
I kept the filename used by the artist but she is a filthy, filthy liar and this is very metal.
Wow. What a way to kick off the new thread.
>>85745This guy owns so hard.soooooooooo cool
>>85754>>85754>>85754
>>85748I kept expecting him to crash. Hussie, you've conditioned me to expect to laugh at him, what have you done.
>>85757You've become a joyless husk who can't appreciate the finer things in life.Like rocketcars
>>85760>FinerI do believe you mean the finest things, may there be no doubt.
>>85679I probably shouldn't have ... but I did.
>>85749As I watch this I keep hearing in my head: "We can rebuild him. We have the technology."
>>85764The Six Million Boondollar Troll
>>85745 et al.This makes me want a Homestuck video game so much. SO MUCH. AUGH.But ok so, re: latest update. I guess this means that dream selves can exist independently of real selves. Does this mean Dream Jade and Dream John were still around in the Bad End future? Maybe they were permanently asleep or something...
>>85766Yeah, I think Dave might have mentioned that with no John around to play server, Jade could never be awakened.
>>85767Ahem. SHE WAS ALWAYS AWAKE.That's the whole deal with her weird future visions, you two. She was already getting information from the clouds in her dream.I know it's a long comic and it was a long time ago but that's really a big deal. It's like one of the primary things about her character.
>>85767Dave was referring about getting Jade into the Medium. Meaning into her Land of ... Naps and Pillows or whatever. Since John wasn't there to get her in the game they were assuming the meteors had gotten her. No mention of her dream self was ever made. Ironically, though, the Dave and Rose were asleep on Derse so they wouldn't have run into Jade's dream self who seems to hang around Prospit most of the time. She couldn't even get down to the battlefield planet, remember?Oddly enough we found out that Dave's dream self was always awake but apparently he didn't know this. And he always kept his music up to loud to listen to his advisors. Who were whispering Horrorterrors instead of fluffy clouds. Derse sure is weird.
>>85768Oh yeah. Oopth. It was the Medium.
I have a feeling he is working on the flash right now.
>>85764>>85765Haha., we were just talking about RoboCop Tavros in IRC last night too.
>>85769And to think all this could have been avoided if John manned up in the first place and confronted Dad when he arrived home to get his damn Sburb beta discs already.
>>85773You wonder why you didn't think of that in the first place.
umuhI was going to post this in /draw/ to ask for crits or redlines but they don't really have a thread for that stuff active right nowso here is a very sketchy Feferi
>>85776Her neck looks a little thick? Other than that, I can't see anything wrong with it.
>>85776Neck a tad too long, legs not aligned naturally with the rest of the body especially torso. Other than that not bad at all.
>>85776There's... something wrong with her left arm, can't really put my finger on what, tho.
>>85777Doesn't seem too bad when you consider it accommodates her gills. At least to me, can't swear about anyone else.
New update.Did Gamzee REALLY tripped over that horn again?
>Jack: Stab your own gut and puke blood.
It is like fucking Smoochtoberfest in here.
Jack is the self-insert personification of everyone who hates the trollmance.
Yay! Spades Slick is back! <3
>hey kid>never got a chance to say>how much i hate you>every last one of youOh, Slick ♥♥♥
You know, if someone were to make a live-action Homestuck movie, they could do a lot worse than copying the style of Scott Pilgrim's special effects.
>>85788My ideal Homestuck adaptation would probably be an animated series or an actual video game, but if it had to be a movie, I'd totally want Edgar Wright aboard.
>>85788Actually you couldn't do worse except for maybe goin down to syfy channel special effects but even then thats like only slightly worse.
If a homestuck movie wasn't animated I would literally actually suicide bomb the movie studio its being filmed at.
A Homestuck movie would only be acceptable if it was fully animated.
Haha I love it. It's too bad, though, this joke probably isn't as funny to casual readers who don't keep up with discussion on the MSPA Forums or other sites, or to future readers who won't have seen all the people complaining about how much the troll arc sucks.

Comment from the forums:"Karkat's secret shame. He loves romantic comedies and all their SOCIOLOGICALLY INTERESTING SCIENCE (or w/e he calls them) but is too embarrassed to watch the kissing scenes. He just covers his face in a pillow and blushes whenever they happen."I lol'd.
Hey, can someone please repost the links to those books that Andrew so artistically defaced? Thanks.

Ooh, troll shirts!
>>85802Great! Now you can explain to everyone that you're not just a huge fucking tool wearing a zodiac sign! It's actually an internet thing about alien kids! The public will think you are the coolest dude!
>>85802PRE-ORDERING AT THE SPEED OF LIGHT
CUUUUUUUURSE YOOOOOOOOU, TAVROS NITRAM!
>>85797In all seriousness though I'm loving his reaction to the horrifying sight of his recently-deceased best friend getting kissed up. He must be all "whaaaaaaa?"I mean if it turns out this brings Sollux back to life as well as waking his dreamself then yaaaay I guess he'll snap out of it but I can't imagine Karkat of all people not immediately pestering Feferi to say "HEY YOU STUPID BITCH STOP WORKING THAT GODDAMN CORPSE. SHOW A LITTLE RESPECT AND KEEP IT IN YOUR ONESIE SWIMSUIT MAYBE???"
>>85804can't i have anything ):
>>85804I preordered extra hard and said your name while I did it.
>>85811oh yeahhsay it slower
>>85812The public's probably just going to think "oh look a shirt with a symbol on it" and that's it. At most, some people are going to go "Oh that's a zodiac symbol, I guess that's his/her sign". Very rarely someone will go "I, too, read MSPA!" and then probably out you in an embarassing manner.Of all the internet shirts you could possibly get though this strikes me as one of the most inoffensive.
Gah. First time I've been on the forums since the upgrade. Why vB? :(
Oh, Spleen, you're like our very own Karkat.
It would cost $240 and shipping for those shirts. Even so, I want all of them.
>>85814My favorite troll (Karkat) matches my zodiac sign, so I'm all set!
>>85816Well hey, I DO loathe myself
Spades Slick still the best character forever, just a reminder
>>85822That's not how you spell Clubs Deuce
Wow sorry, but the troll shirts are lame as hell. You could make those at home.
>>85824true dat holmes>>85823now now everyone we can spell John Egbert which ever way we want
>>85825There is no "we" in Vriska Serket.
Everyone and their cousin has probably thought of this already, but a Homestuck side-scroller beat-em-up would be pretty rad.Or a Homestuck sprite-based fighting game.
>>85825>>85824Thank you!I felt like I was taking crazy pills
>>85824Well yeah cosplayers certainly seem to have.
>>85828He could have at least put the troll tags or a snippet of pesterlog text or the horns or something on them to make them unique, it's not like it's hard for cosplayers to make these shirts at home with some iron on sheets and a black t shirt.
>>85830But but but - homebrew shirts wouldn't be OFFICIAL. Don't you know how crapitalism even works? Commubea!
>>85831TROLL SHIRTS ARE THE OPIATES OF THE MASSES
What.
>>85834Andrew Hussie is 6 letters and 6 lettersANDREW HUSSIE WAS THE 13th TROLL ALL ALONG
>>85834I'm hoping that this update is a result of some massive drama-bomb elsewhere that we don't know about.
I'm on the fence for a troll shirt. they're awesome and I want one but $20 is too much to me for a shirt with just a symbol. maybe if they go on sale later or something.
>>85834Just in time for the SA thread to hit page 413I envy the lucky goon who snypes that page.

SO META
>>85834>My face when reading this updateOh U Hussie!Looks like recap is coming, flash must be coming next week more or less
Hussie you so meta
I hope the next zoom out is the audience considering suicide next to a stump
This latest update explains so much. It really does.
This better not segue into the end of the arc. There's too much relationshit unresolved. :(
>>85843Yes, but for added meta the audience, which is us, are also all tar imps. We're the minions. It's us.
>>85845>This better segue into the end of the arc. There's too much relationshit.
>>85846We are Lord English.
>>85848And then for another meta layer, WV
>>85843SIGNEDAlso, some cheesecake for the Vriska Serket fans. Artist said it's coz they can't unsee Victoria's Secret.
>My face when I realized we are the bullies
AH was bullied by the Nasties from Neverending Story III.The Nasties were led by Tommy.Tommy was played by Jack Black. And by far Hussie's most destructive villain is named Jack Noir.
>Ugh. This troll paint is making a mess. This was such a bad idea.omg troll paint = hivebent?!?!!?
>>85845Except thats not whats importantAND if we were to follow their game any further it would start giving away stuff for the kid's gameSo we HAVE to stop at this point.
>>85852
>>85852>DMK's attack has ripped the universe in half.
>>85848Pfft, you wish.
>>85852FUCK
Isn't the troll paint the same color as Sollux blood? There is something wrong there...
>>85845>>85847I don't care about the relationshit.I was hoping though that we'd find out how they killed the black king, how their dreamselves died, and what they are doing now exactly. The entire arc has really been "meet the trolls"
>>85859Actually, that's Hussie's skin showing through. The troll paint is gray.
>>85859No way, the troll paint is grey.Hussie is yellow.
>>85852oh my god
>>85859the troll paint is grey hussie's skin in this form is the yellow
I have seen this, cannot unsee it, and now you will share my pain.
>>85852>>85853
The biggest surprise for me at least was that we get to the troll game and find out that their enemy ... is the Black King and Queen. I don't know why but I thought it would be reversed since, well, the trolls are kind of evil. For so long they've served as a weird bizarro universe evil leaper counterpart to the kids.Always picking on the black pieces. Wait, did I just play the race card in a game of chess? I don't know, it just seems like it would be more symbolic if the trollkids' were playing the reverse side. Although maybe it's more ironically symbolic they play against black. The trolls aren't evil versions of the kids they're just, well, mostly jerkasses. And even the worst of them have *some* redeeming qualities. Also the teamed up with the Midnight Crew who actually the most evil out of any faction in the game. Even Lord English will probably only be more destructive in his abilities, I doubt he could actually be more vicious than Spades Slick/Jack Noir on his worst day.
>>85865I have never enjoyed pain as much as I did during those glorious 47 seconds
>>85802why are the trolls always in this order
>>85869It's the hemospectrum. Get into it.
>>85869It's the zodiac order. Aries (March 20 - April 19), Taurus (April 20 - May 20), Gemini (May 21 - June 20), etc.
>>85865s- so strong . . .
>>85870>>85871These are the same thing for sake of comic.
Oo, oo, more alternate characterizations!Alternia is actually ... EARTH. Even though the troll civilization is millions of years older it arose long after the meteors destroyed the planet. The trolls are ... Wayward Vagabond, Aimeless Renegade, Windswept Questant, and Parcel Mistress having repopulated the planet. That's they the trolls are grey skinned. The horns were just a later evolutionary adaptation. For style. The fact that this is Earth explains why all these old temples and relics turn up, including enough information to adapt their own version of Sburb. The extra moon is a leftover meteor or chunk of planet that was ejected into orbit. The trollkids interact with the past due to weird time shiz thanks to the medium. They have no idea that although their civilization has existed longer they technically came after humanity. For added shipping feel free to throw in the surviving kids into the genetic mix. This is why trolls have hair, I guess. Also I suppose at some point Equius' robots become sentient and go rogue due to not wanting to be beaten up. All of this has happened before and will happen again.Wow, this idea is sure is weird.
I hope he doesn't dump this storyline just because people are whining. I mean, I'm okay with it ending pretty soon, but I don't want him to cave in and say "alright fine you're right it's stupid." Shit's not dignified.
Well, I feel like Hussie would not have put us through something that was completely unnecessary.Everything is for a reason in Homestuck.Pretty much.
>>85854Technically they can go right up until after they defeat their king. It isn't until later after they think they've won that they find out they are still screwed thanks to The Rift. Whatever that is exactly. If you're worried that HOW they defeat their king will spoil some game mechanism ... I doubt it. The game goals are already sufficiently different, plus the kids have already been told they can't play the game as normal because their session is ultimately fubar.
>>85878And even it doesn't he'll find a way to make use out of what we've seen like he does about 50% of the time anyway.
>>85874I have a feeling that you already know that that theory is stupid, but just in case, the FIRST PAGE of Hivebent says that Earth is a planet that doesn't exist yet.
>>85878He didn't say that it was unnecessary but he did say that it was not necessary and that the trolls' roles could have been played out without us ever having seen them.
Land of Tents and Mirthhttp://tindeck.com/review?id=qnhe&f=lThis is just...I don't know. I got home pretty drunk, and I knew it was either sleep on the couch or bust out the derpy midi and make a Gamzee tune while I was in the right state of mind. I'd like to think I made the right decision
>>85883I love it. The horns crack me up.
Is anyone else thinking that Hivebent would have been better suited to it's whole own story, as a spin-off of Homestuck instead of a chapter in it?
yes. but also no.
>>85883shit man I can't stand itit's perfect
>>85885Not really. I love the trolls and their melodramatic bullshit but it wouldn't work as a full length feature. I mean, look at Axe Cop. Fucking awesome in small doses, but it kinda just fizzled out. I wouldn't mind an Alternia adventure though, focused on the Empire.
HAHAHA YES >>85843 CALLED IT. TOTALLY CALLED IT.
>>85889

dudewaitwhat
>>85890
>>85889This is the best birthday present EVER
oh godwhat hath wrought this sillyness @_@
>>85888I think the reason so many folks got burned out on Hivebent is that Andrew tried to cover a lot of ground in a short time, and already things have gone on way longer than he anticipated. If things were to be diluted a bit and we weren't getting so thick an intake of teenage troll-drama, things would probably be more manageable.I agree though, it would be cool to see an adventure of the Alternian empire.
but the Altnerian Empire is all deadthey got glubbed
>>85896Good point. Still, it seems kind of... mundane for Hussie. I don't see him spending very long on anything that doesn't involve cosmic mobius double reach arounds tearing the universe in two.
>if it doesn't stop keep happeningHas anyone ever been as far as to stop keep happening?>>85897 >>85898I finally have occasion to use this image macro.-It could take place before the glubbening.-Hussie can always work mind-bending cosmic mobius double reach arounds in. He's like, a wizard at that.

>>85876This. I hate it when authors I like buckle unwillingly to fan pressure, because usually it ends up with them stuck in a rut because they can't please everybody, and suddenly things go to shit because the author isn't writing what they want to write and no one ends up pleased.I guess I just hope Andrew knows what he's doing, and isn't letting "Meet the Trolls" end earlier than he feels comfortable with.

>>85955Good BeaBest post
>>85958If I had more than a camera to capture the pages. I could try, I suppose.Let me collect the first 50 pages from Hussie's site, then I can see about photographing the last 50.
Also I should warn you it's probably the worst bedtime story ever. It begins with cannibalism, deftly segues into male prostitution, Stockholm syndrome, abuse, self-mutilation, Hussie's generally creepy trademark oddness and finally Horrorterrors.
Was that a spoiler? Oh well.
>>85962Sounds delightful.
why are all of these pages a different vertical resolutionaauugghh
Hussie's at the top of his game with the art in Whistles. Too bad there will never be a second volume on account of how long it takes him to make it.
I mean this is gorgeous. Even moreso without the GIF compression and comparatively low resolution.
>>85972Hussie is artistically amazing. Is he self trained? I have no idea. Also i love this. Thank you!
>>85974I think he is. IIRC he majored in computer science or something.
Keep in mind, Bea, I may be unable to finish it. I figure I'll wind up taking two or three pictures of each page, finding the one with the best focus/exposure, cropping/resizing and posting it. It'll be like waiting for Hussie to update. You will be dying inside, your sweaty hands clenched into fists, knees knocking, every F5 sending a shudder of fevered anticipation down your spine.I also may or may not step out for a cigarette, because I'm just classy enough to smoke at the most inopportune times. Like at high school graduations, or at a baby shower.
>>85976Don't worry about it! I appreciate you doing this for us. If you want to pick it up another day or quit to get some sleep (like I'm going to in a minute) then do that!Love you for being so willing to do this, though!
At least now I have all the pages from Hussie's site.
>>85977Man, I've been saying I was going to do this for weeks, it's about time I half-assed my way through it.If I could find a scanner I could do it correctly, but OH WELL.
What's the uh, refractory period for flood detection on +4? Or is there any?
>>85984Never noticed that guy died!
>>85985Awww he jumped on his shoulders. :3c
Someone yell at me if I miss a page.
I am badly de-binding this poor, innocent book. I feel like some sort of horror film villain, violently defacing the flesh of some random bystander.I think I am also getting fingerprints all over its semi-gloss pages.
Aaaauuuggghhh, the ink is cracking along the binding.I am not good at this.
Anyone have any advice? I figured out that I can keep the pages mostly unharmed if I completely mutilate the cover.
This poor book.
You don't have to worry too much, I do have two copies. One of these days I'll get a scanner and then you can enjoy a quality monochrome JPG 600dpi scan.
God damn it, SLG, stop having well-bound books. I want them to be flimsy and easily disassembled for the express purpose of expedient dissemination.
Is anyone still awake?
its 4:20 in the morning in places that matter no one is awak
I am.
>>86009I'm trying to break my record for most hours without sleep and this is keeping me awake.keep dumpin' bro.
I have successfully removed each page necessary to complete the book, with minimal damage.
Reading every page. This is great, even if it's just the stuff in the preview so far.
Whistles you are so loyal.
>>86013Cool! I wasn't sure what kind of advice I could give in that department but I'm glad you worked it out. Also d'awww Doodlebean's so cute.
>>86013That chick is basically Rose when she grows up. And gets a much more stylish headband.
>>86010Hey! It's 3:20 (3:30 now) where I am, and I'm awake.
Slowing down a bit, I'm going to start painstakingly photographing pages. Expect extreme slowdown when I start posting them.
My word, I forgot how absolutely incredible this book was.Good show, OP. Continue in your brave, literature-mutilating endeavors.
Wait... you are achieving these results with a mere CAMERA??
>this comic
>>86022No no no. The camera comes later. Page 51+I have a really shitty camera, too. We'll have to see what I can do about that. Right now I'm messing with the white balance. I think I'll post finished pages in sets of five as I get them done.
Well, time to see what I'm getting out of this camera.
Hey, if anyone's interested, I'm gonna be doodling the Midnight Crew, live on camera.http://www.livestream.com/spleensawfuldrarwringbonanza

ha ha ha, oh wow.
UPDATEOH ANDREW
He's gone completely off the deep end.
Oh, Andrew. Andrew.>>86034FUCK YEAH GUMBLIN
Has he completely lost his shit now?
OH GOD ANDREW YOU ARE COMPLETELY INSANE
I guess my stuff is TECHNICALLY starting at page 50 since this break-off piece occurred earlier in the book. I think. Oh well. For the sake of numbers, I'll keep the photographs in order.
>>86032Wow. Yeah, I think he's gone crazy. That's not even trolling, that's a cry for help.
Good lord, this update. I cannot stop laughing.
This is what I'm achieving with a camera. It's too dark and somewhat blurry, and I feel like the perspective is fucked. I also didn't crop it to save time.Have fun.
I do not know what to make of this update.Creator breakdown, ultimate meta, or just Hussie doing what he does best? Who the hell cares?I... uh.. I care, I just have no idea what is going on.
>>86046Doesn't look that bad to me. And it'll definitely tide people over until you can get your mitts on a scanner.
>>86032Oh. Oh god. He's wearing Kanaya's shirt ... Now we know why her teeth are rounded except for the fangs ( >>85627 )ANDREW HUSSIE CROSSDRESSES FOR TEAM EDWARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!... Well he might be. Stop looking at me like that.
All I have as a lighting source is a desk lamp. This semi-gloss paper is driving me nuts.
>>86046What >>86048 said.Thanks a bunch for sharing with us. :)
I think this is the first time the internet has ever witnessed these pages. Also I think I'm getting better with the photos. The next batch should be a bit clearer and possibly lighter. The problem with lightening them is that I risk additional glare.
>>86052>>86055>>86055FUCK YEEEEEEEEEEAH
Back into the photography abyss. See you guys in 15-30 minutes with new material.
Sweet!
Back with a few more.
The bizarre banding effect isn't due to the print quality, it's just my camera being an asshole.
Nigga u creepin
Whistles and Gamzee may, in fact, be the same person.Gamzee needs to lose some limbs and grow them back in balloon form.
PCHOOOOO
>>86065But if Whistles is Gamzee, who are the other guys?
>>86067Wow. There's nothing Klaus Nomi can't do!
i can't stand the suspense

END ACT CHAPTER 2
I'm afraid that's all I have time for tonight, guys. I have to catch some sleep before work tomorrow, and I work in six hours. For eight hours. So I won't be back for 16 hours, allowing for work to suck up more of my life than its entitled to.Photographing these damn pages takes too much time. If I had a decent camera instead of a half-broken (flash doesn't work, autofocus doesn't work, weird banding effect appeared about six months ago) Sony $200 point-and-shoot from 2003, or a scanner, this would go so much faster. I wouldn't have to spend five minutes puzzling over which of the five shots for that page was the least blurry.I'm sorry! I hate to postpone this more after I've already spent a month trying to find a scanner, but at least I already have the book apart, yeah?
Hey, don't stress over it. I really appreciate all of your effort!
For reference, the camera:
and the "desk":The white surface is the backlight from a LCD monitor. The carpet isn't nearly as dirty as it looks, though I do need to vacuum and it is a shitty apartment.
Ahaha oh god, The neverending story was on TV yesterday and I saw it for the first time since like forever, Hussies timing was so unintentionally perfect I can hardly believe it.
So it's safe to say that the "troll arc" got to him a little. Also thanks for the storytime, wantonViolins.
>>85894Wait is it your birthday?Happy Birthday! :D
>>86084OH SHIT! ANDREW HAS FLIPPED!
>>86084Or he's only doing this for completely ironical reasons. He's one crafty cuss.
andrew wtf r u doin
wantonViolins you are the most totally broest of bros.Oh, Huss!
>>86093Well, well, looks like our dear author is throwing a Hussie fitlol I'm sorry. Did I just respond my own post? Yes, I did! I'll go drown myself now.
Okay, new theory: he's doing this in an attempt to drive off the haters so that he can continue in peace.
>>86085Tomorrow, but I take it back. This is the strangest birthday present.
Whoa, wantonviolins, you rock!
I'm sorry, but I just couldn't get this out of my head.
I wake up today and Hussie has completely lost his mind.Okay I guess I'm okay with this.
You are amazing, wantonviolins. Thanks a bunch.and just fyi, an easy way to de-bind a book is to microwave it to soften the glue so it peels apart easily, but it also, you know, takes apart the whole book and makes it impossible to put back together.
also I love it when Hussie takes a moment to remind us that this entire website is run by a complete madman, and anyone expecting a sensible and rational webcomic experience should run very far away.
So how did this update insult me?
>>86105I guess it's something that needs reiterating every now and again, in case someone forgot, or the new people haven't figured it out yet.
Somone on the forums noted that the top answer off his formspring here: http://www.formspring.me/andrewhussieand this little change in the troll romance text here:http://i35.tinypic.com/23ljz1k.jpgcould mean that this is just Hussie's super elaborate way of fixing a typo.
>>86108>SomoneWHOOPS, LOOKS LIKE I HAVE TO GO INTO AN ELABORATE BREAKDOWN OVER ALL OF +4CHAN TO FIX THIS MISTAKE.
I had this interesting procession of thoughts earlier:>batshit loony update>ugh quiet for two seconds hussie we are reading here>>86073AFAIK, this was the last page of Whistles that he had put on Team Special Olympics. But that was waaaay back when the book was first being sold. Or maybe it wasn't even printed yet, don't recall. Keep up the awesome work, wV.>>86072This is joyous.
Oh god.
>>86114I don't think the cripple jokes will ever get old.
>>86093This is the best "pic unrelated" image ever.
>>86108The update was a ruse then.A distaction, if you will.
>>86108The very idea has me laughing heartily.
I don't usually question this sort of craziness, but why is Hussie hiding in an attic? What's with the wolf's head? Why is he dressed up as a troll?
>>86121http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_NeverEnding_Story_%28film%29
>>86123Oh, OK. I had the feeling it was a movie reference, but "Psycho" didn't seem to be the right one.
I dreamt last night that the Internet was in an uproar because Andrew was ending Hivebent even though there were still two more trolls to introduce: Troll Misty Knight and Troll Colleen Wing.I shouldn't have stayed up so late reading Immortal Iron Fist.
This is the most wonderful update ever, even though I don't think I understand it.
>>86140>>I shouldn't have stayed up so late reading Immortal Iron Fist. No, anon, Immortal Iron Fist is always appropriate. Make no excuses nor apologies!
>>86111I don't really like how elements of it turned out. Clubs was too small, so I fixed that, but I also think Droog's hat is at a bit too of a jaunty angle.
And we're back
I forgot I doodled this yesterday. I guess cause it was heavily outmoded by later updates.(For reference, just in case: http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2004/9/27/)
>>86166ahahaha A+ anon!
so wait what is wrong with that syntax?
Slick for the love of christ bandage that wound
>>86168Didn't have enough "=" I guess.
The "next" for Hivebent is ======> That button only types ==> which is the "next" for the kids.
>>86168= => is for the kids, four lines= = = = = => is for the trolls, twelve lines
so then are we to assume that the thing Spades is in now is from the kid's game?
>>86174Uh, no. Why would we?
cause ==> is unique to the Kid's session?and it has a button hard wired to it?
>>86175because the next button doesn't have enough "="s?I sort of doubt it due to the 12 screens but idk.
>>86177Twelve screens, he's Karkat's Exile, he's on the ruined Alternia, Slick lampshades the advancement button only having two ='s. And what possible reason could there be for the terminal to come from the kids' session? It makes no sense.
I bet spilling blood into a keyboard is even worse than coffee.
the missing equal signs were a...DISTACTIONalso a joke
>>86180Not really actually, blood crusts up and drys pretty quick if it's thin, then you can easily rub it off. It doesn't stay sticky or anything after it's dry.Take it from me, I've bled and spilled many drinks on my keyboard.
Well I'm glad things seem to be (relatively) back to normal. Still, something about that meta-interlude and his Formspring explanation seem off. Like when a child hears the parents arguing and they try to assure the child there's nothing wrong, even though there is....Oh god. Andrew, you and mommy are getting a divorce, aren't you? It's all my fault!
>>86198Dude, Andrew's fine. People are inclined to believe that webcomic creators have imperceptibly thin skin and tenuous grips on sanity. Andrew's taking advantage of that to screw with everyone.
>>86198Andrew always plays it pretty cool, but there's some serious thought behind the facade. Remember that he's playing the *character* of Andrew Hussie whenever he communicates through his comic and most of the comic-related media. It's the only way to safely engage with such a large and often demanding fanbase, have a too-cool persona but behind the scenes be taking into account what people are saying and thinking. There are limits. With troll romance, for example, he pushed the limit and turned people's complaints into farce so the whole thing became funny again. With Vriska on the other hand he started playing up her pitiable psychosis, difficult home-life, and how she's been exploited by others while downplaying the actual murdering (people she kills are either nameless male silhouettes or Aradia who "got better").He's good at the balancing act. If he were ever really mad, he wouldn't be expressing it through his character, he'd express it directly and then everything'd probably come undone. Seeing silly troll hussie and lots of Neverending Story references is the signal that everything's gonna be alllllllright.
>>86200>>86201Yeah, I know.I was attempting a farce of my own. Apparently I have failed. :(
>>86203Gotta be more over the top bro. Just kick it up to eleven.
>>86203Sorry, you're outnumbered 10-to-1 by people who're saying that unironically
>>86205I thought the divorce thing would be a sufficient giveaway...>>86206Really? Cripes, people need to get with the funny.
>>86208Have to be at the top of your game. No matter how good you think you've got it there's probably someone who feels the exact same but genuinely.
ok so if i were to draw some pics would you guys beat me up
>>86213In the most appreciative way possible~
>>86213Only ironically.
>>86179On the contrary it makes perfect sense. Remember that Sgrub was ADAPTED by Sollux using artifacts discovered by Aradia. This is yet more evidence that Alternia is actually Earth. And this tinfoil hat is very uncomfortable, dammit!
>>86216That or it would be a ridiculously long key <_<
>>86213nah, this thread would benefit from more arts. everyone is intimidated by the early stuff.the awesome threedee not the jolly rancher crap
>>86213One prob that I was hoping that you could me with, my tablet (bamboo fun) is on the fritz, the actual pen part doesn't work but the eraser still is recognized. I can still draw in Mspaint so, I might do that
>>86219Hmm. I don't know enough about the product. It really depends on how the stylus and the tablet communicate.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graphics_tablet#OperationSounds like whatever detection method is used for yours something has gone hinky with the writing tip but still works for the eraser end. This means it's unlikely to be software and is the pen itself. Will try to research a bit more ...
That he did all this to correct a typo is part of my personal canon, all the same.
>>86221for your help you can ask for a thing.actually everyone can, because if you don't then you'd just get whatever shuffle on +4chan's radio inspires me with
>>86219Could still be hardware. Try checking for the latest drivers:http://www.wacom.com/downloads/drivers.phpYou can also try uninstalling and reinstalling the tablet software. Best not to assume it's hardware til you've tried everything up to and including just rebooting. >>86223I wish there was more help, sorry. It may come back if you fiddle with the software. It may come back if you change the nib. It may even come back on its own with no explanation.
>>86225nah it isnt the nib, changed it a while ago

I'm visiting my mom and my little bro for the next two weeks and the 3 of us pretty much marathon'd Problem Sleuth over the weekend, taking turns narrating in hard boiled voices. Everyone should try this @_@
Andrew responded to this whole controversy on his formspring. http://www.formspring.me/andrewhussietl;dr Andrew is being playful with his story. Many things have, of course, been included in the story with the intent of provoking a reaction (juggalos, furries, etc) but not in the intent of trolling people per se; to use that term would be too black and white. MSPA is heavy with satire but he always also embraces the subject in some way. Of course, since he's not telling this story with anything but fun in mind, he often just runs with a joke and plays it straight so it becomes hard to say when he's being mocking and affectionate.Running theme of Hivebent seems to be "hey these creeps are pretty cool when you get to know them"
OH SHITI just realized that Andrew has now literally checked "troll the readers off" of his to do list
>>86229>Running theme of Hivebent seems to be "hey these creeps are pretty cool when you get to know them"Hell yeah.
bluh bluh...I suppose i could just doodle at school tomarrow and give you that

>>86232It's like every third item on that damn list. And how I love him for that.
>>86234it's like the exact opposite of certain parts of internet culture.

UPDATEFUCK YEEEEEAH Sollux has two dream selves
UUUPPDDAAAAATTTEEE
>>86253I guess that makes sense since he connects the blue team and the red team. But then again so does Kanaya.I wonder if Aradia even has a dream self. The rules around player-death and self prototyping seem to be kind of sketchy.
update
Gemini troll.Two lives.It makes sense.
So, when trolls die, they go to Earth?
>>86260what
>>86260And what makes you say that?
Holy shit, now Sollux is my favorite troll.DOUBLE THE TROUBLE
>>86257More than two it would seem if this was accurate:>> Luckily you had a couple lives to spare.Interesting how his biploar disorder allows him to dwell on both moons, apparently. His up side and his down side. This does suggest a mental component to which moon your dream self lives on. (watch me be wrong but it does suggest that) Dave and Rose are certainly more serious and, dare I say, darker in mindset than John and Jade. Hands down.
>>86262>Not like the yellow moon you were just dreaming about.
>>86266...that's referencing Prospit.
So wait, his Dersian dreamself has a dreamself on Prospit? It's a linked thing, not independent?I think that's what I'm getting here.
>>86264I used to think that too, but then how the hell is Vriska a Prospit dreamer?
>>86268That would certain fit with the recursive nature of his coding. This raises some interesting questions. Does the troll session contain more towers to accommodate for two dream Sollux selves?Does Aradia have a dream self? Probably, even though she was already dead before she entered the medium (no pun intended). If so then is this aspect of her still alive?Interesting questions. I hope we get some answers.
>>86269She's just so damn cheery when she's being a huge bitch. Bluh. Bluh. Bluh.Rather obvious, really.
>>86269It's not like she's depressed or something. If anything she's quite pleased with herself.
>>86267>Not like the yellow moon you were just dreaming about. Plenty of friends there, all up and around, making a racket.>It was fun for a while. Until you woke up with honey in your mouth, killed your lusus, saved a princess, and died. The yellow moon bit would seem to indicate Prospit, but everything else is what was happening on Alternia. Maybe there's something with his multiple selves we're not seeing yet that would clear this up.>>86269Perhaps she desperately wishes she was happy and innocent, so that's reflected in her dream-self.Was it explicitly stated she was a Prospit dreamer, though?
>>86269It's my pet theory that Prospit dreamers are open about who they are while Derse dreamers hide their true selves from others. Vriska is by no means a nice person, but she makes no effort to hide it and says what she wants. Meanwhile, Feferi is adorable and nice, but she uses it to hide the fact that she's tired of Eridan.
>>86276What is there to clear up? Aradia put Sollux to sleep. His Prospit dream self woke up, where there were plenty of friends, all up and about and making a racket-- which could refer to fellow Prospit dreamers (Kanaya, Terezi, and Tavros confirmed so far) or the Prospitians (who were friendly with Jade, so perhaps their amity extends to Sollux as well).Sollux stayed there for a while before he woke up, back on Alternia, with honey in his mouth and etcetera etcetera he died and got smooched awake on Derse.Coming to the conclusion that this means trolls go to Earth when they die gets more and more ridonk the more I think about it.
>>86276It means he was dreaming of Prospit when Aradia put him to sleep all those updates ago. Then he woke up optic blast'd his lusus, and all that stuff.
>>86277What was it Karkat accused Vriska of? "Pretender's hate"?
>>86277Wait, so she can't be adorable and nice and still tired of Eridan? Or is this another pet theory? Those two aren't mutually exclusive. It could be the fact that she's nice that Eridan was clashing with her. We could also say that it was the nice that kept her with Eridan for so long, at least until he no longer proved a threat to everybody.
>>86276Some people have been convinced that the teams are split up into moon teams. By coincidence, of course. However this is probably just another way in which the teams are pointless.
>>86279 >>86280Ah, okay. I was kind of blurring the two statements together I guess. My what a difference in comprehension some coffee makes!
>>86283so... feferi was never really eridan's friend? she just pretended to be to protect others?
I just noticed, we haven't seen Gamzee in hero mode yet.I wonder when that will happen...?
>>86287I would think she genuinely tried to like him. That is, if my picture of the character is about right. But after awhile, that effort just sort of fell through in the face of his enduring stubbornness.
>>86288Maybe if we get to see him take the rocket unicycle for a whirl.
IRC told me to do this. Then they went to bed.
>>86277Meanwhile Kanaya is in denial about all her feelings but is also on Prospit?
Oh, Tawa.MECHA SHIVAMECHA SHIVA
>>86279Tavros was recalling his dream self when they were already in the Veil, so he could have woke up anytime right up until then. This doesn't mean he is already awake in this current storyline.
Hey folks, I'm streaming!http://www.livestream.com/spleensawfuldrarwringbonanza
>>86297Well with how long Sollux spent asleep, who can say? Maybe he woke up during that period off screen.Either way, I was simply saying that Tavros is one of the trolls confirmed to have a dream self on Prospit, not explicitly pointing out that he's very definitely awake there already.
I do hope that feferi/eridan is resolved at some point, even if in passing. Not that they need to get back together or feferi needs to suffer or anything like that, just a bit of closure because leaving it at that was just depressing.Even if Fef was justified in not wanting to be with Eridan anymore, it was still a pretty harsh dump.
>>86299Okay, thanks for checking in folks
Update: showin' off troll dreamselves.Interesting points:Sollux has two dreamselves, obviouslyAradia doesn't have one at allVriska's other eye is visible for the first time on her dream self.
>>86311Oh and, Nepeta looks completely ridiculous in a dress.
>>86312Shit, you don't know what you're talking about. She's goddamn adorable is what she is.
And the Prospit half, just for good measure.
I also wonder if this offers some insight into the true purpose of dream selves. Are they really meant to serve as an "extra life"? I always imagined they were meant to symbolize more of a spiritual awakening of the player, also allowing them to keep tabs on what's going on in the kingdom.
>>86311And yet we do not get to see Equius without his shades. Boohoo. :(
>>86315I suppose what I'm trying to say here is that I always thought that dream selves were tied more to the mind of the awake self instead of functioning as a second body. That if your real self died, your dream self died with them.I mean, dreamselves seem "different" to the normal self. For one, they can fly. But do they even have modi or strife specibi? Why exactly doesn't Aradia have one? Also Vriska in yet another dress makes me smile. Like deep down even though she dresses like a tough girl she loves being pretty.
Annnnd Aradia doesn't get that extra life after all. Which is just as well since she's already a ghost. And a sprite. And also a robot. Not sure yet about the ninja. Anyway unless someone prototypes Troll Ray Stantz she's good to go.Interestingly this does make the moons a bit lopsided. That's five Dersians and seven Prospitians. Not really sure how that works. Also interesting how your "extra life" is free to get itself killed. So you're playing your video game and while you're having fun one of the extra lives finds out his wife is sleeping with one of the other extra lives, gets drunk, and accidentally drives into a wheat thresher. Hmm, wait a second. I seem to recall in the old arcade days that some games finished when I was sure I still had an extra guy. Holy crap, this is just like that black hole that keeps eating my car keys and putting them in my other other pocket!
Aradia obviously doesn't have a dreamself because androids only dream of electric sheep.
>>86316Or his horns fixed. Or his teeth. Apparently he lives just as rambunctiously in his dreams as he does awake. I'm not suspecting the real reason the Black Queen quit wasn't about frogs but about all that damn racket from the exploding dreambots!
Aradia doesn't have a dreamself because she used up her extra life already, duh.Although I guess there's all kinds of holes that can be poked into that logic.
>>86313Poor Aradia's got no dream self. :( Probably from the whole 'dead' thing...And I concur, Nepeta's dress is cute.>>86314Vriska's spider eye is... actually pretty cool. I was prepared for something horrifying, but the seven pupils are neat.If Vriska's dream self has her eye, and Tavros' has working legs, I take it that Terezi's can see? Not that it matters much, since she's an olfactory ninja now.>>86315I think it's a little of both. It offers a second chance of living, but also has a more spiritual significance.>>86317>Why exactly doesn't Aradia have one?Probably because she died before entering the game. It seems like you have to enter the game alive to get a dream self. Or maybe the dead can't dream, so she doesn't have one because of that. I dunno.
>>86318Dream selves are one thing about the story that we don't fully understand yet.I mean even if a dream self serves as an extra life, you are still taking a blow by losing it, since besides letting you effectively be in two places at once, they offered some kind of spiritual insight. So there's still a whole host of questions left to be answered regarding that. There could be a dozen reasons why Aradia doesn't have a dreamself (dying before waking up? Prototyping herself?) Is her lack of a dreamself somehow related to how she managed to manifest as a ghost on Alternia?
>>86322Actually, let me amend that.>Probably because she died before entering the game. It seems like you have to enter the game alive to get a dream self. Or maybe the dead can't dream, so she doesn't have one because of that. I dunno.I remembered Jade was 'awake' in her dreams before entering the game, so that cancels my first idea. Second one might still be valid.
>>86322It's already been confirmed that Terezi's dream self is blind. Her dreams consisted of nothing but darkness until her lusus taught her to smell/taste. We even got a really cool terezivision pic of Prospit. http://mspaintadventures.com/?s=6&p=004028
>>86324Or maybe the dream self manifested as a ghost for Aradia. I mean, it is sort of like your soul, kind of.
>>86326> it is sort of like your soulWhich means ... JADE IS NOW A RAINBOW DRINKER!
>>86287Feferi was always his friend however, Eridan thought there was something else and so that scene happened.Feferi is not really a bad troll, she was just avoiding to be a babysitter of a guy full of shit that cares just about himself.
>>86324You're forgetting about weird time stuff. She may have had to be alive to have a dream self and once she entered she would have always had one. How does that work? How do the babies wind up in the past when the need to be?Say it with me, kiddies: Weird time stuff.
>>86326Except, Aradia had no memory of what caused her death(and a bunch of another things), unlike Sollux.Doesn't dream selves know what happens to their true selves though?
>>86325Oh duh, that's right. Huh. I wonder why some trolls are 'healed' in their dreams, while others retain their various injuries/scars.I really need to reread stuff...
>>86328It's important to note that just because your dream self is on Derse and you are given advice by freaky horrorterrors from beyond time, space, and reality doesn't make you ... bad.Speaking of things that give advice, so Aradia really has no clouds OR Horrorterrors. I suppose the Horrorterrors could still be whispering to her if they wanted to ... but hasn't she always said she gets her advice from the dead? Not sure what to think about that. Could be Lord English pulling a con job on her. It's interesting because Doc Scratch told Vriska that she was going to seek revenge on Aradia because it was who she was and she only has herself to blame. So then why did he contact her specifically?http://www.mspaintadventures.com/?s=6&p=004143He talks in circles. He says he doesn't have to convince Vriska to kill Aradia, she always would, but then admits he has to intervene in certain circumstances. It seems like he does talk her into the murder and at the same time is sewing the seeds for her self-destructive self-loathing at the same time by telling her he isn't doing anything. It's hard to say one way or the other. But would Vriska have killed Aradia even if Doc hadn't contacted her? And if she would have why DID he contact her?
>>86325This may say something about the nature of whatever blinded her, which we still have not yet seen. Based on Equius looking the same it's suggested the dream and actual self may live the same. Not sure what that says about Terezi. We'll probably get this cleaned up when we learn how she lost her eyesight.
>>86333Oh god, equius accidentally punches a robot in both his real and sleeping form which crashes through a wall and explodes in both Terezi's faces.http://www.mspaintadventures.com/?s=6&p=004129He does that a lot.
Sooooo Sollux has Aradia's dreamlife for some reason?
>>86337No, I think it's because of his whole 'duality' thing. Two eye colors, two sets of horns, bi-polar personality, two dream selves.
oh god Equius in that outfit is hilarious
Oh hey!Look what Thomas Siddell did!>>86314Vriska's eightfold it's kinda creepy.
Can anyone remember when Vriska and Gamzee were trying to contact Jade? I can't find the link to save my life
>You are just now noticing that exactly half of the trolls wear glasses.
>>86345Canonically, all of them have contacted Jade at one point or another. She's the only one with a full Trollslum.
>>86348Wait, never mind. I got it.
So now Karkat finally is the THE THRESH PRINCE OF PROSPITHe seems pretty happy about it
The colour of the troll's shoes in the dream worlds match their blood colour. Except for Sollux, who wears Derse-coloured shoes in Prospit and Prospit shoes in Derse.HUSSIIIIIIIIIEEEEE
>>86351Don't forget the Scourge Sisters, who love red shoes so much they wear them no matter which selves they are.
>>86351Seems more their text color, since Karkat's shoes are gray. Plus Vriska has red shoes, because she loves and will only wear red shoes, and Terezi has the same, because she loves red period and needs SOME of it on her.
>>86351what about Vriska, Terezi and Karkat?
>>86331I always figured it had to do with self-image.Also, I like the idea that even if the prospit/derse split is 5/7, that there is an empty tower for Aradia on derse, dusty and abandoned. Sollux can bunk with Karkat or something. Also I think Sollux is a chimera, in the genetic sense. It follows very nicely on his bifurcation, mutated brain, four-horned double-dreamself person.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chimera_(genetics)
I have a bad feeling about the survival rate of the blue team
:D
>>86359This reminds me of an interesting conversation I had with Somfun. The art forum is like deviant art in that it's not a place for any art to be discussed, it's just a place for a select group of people to post whatever bullshit comes to mind, and receive compliments. It's a shame really, if it was slower or just less of a madhouse, you could get some good tips and pointers. And it's not like there aren't people who could give those tips, who know their stuff, they just choose not to.
>>86332reverse psychology, of course.
>>86360To be fair, nobody is really asking either.
>>86360It is too bad. I try to give more detailed comments when I post in the art threads. I don't draw enough to be able to discuss things well from a technical/anatomy/etc standpoint, but I know a bit about composition and I know how to describe what I like.So that it doesn't get lost in the noise, people that -do- want criticism or advice are advised to start a thread for their work, or to otherwise specifically ask for such things. That is what Art Forum was known for, before the fanworks were moved into it. (It was also kind of semi-dead and not very active. I think the influx of population will be a good thing in the long run.)The slower-paced fanfiction thread gets constructive/style discussions more often, though. Especially if you ask.
>>86363Ad I'll admit, I'm guilty of it too. But often I don't have the time nor the inclination to scour back through 5 pages of art to posts some comments.
>>86360Man, I come here to get advice and crit from you guys because the forums kind of ignore cries for help.Compliments are nice to my egooooo (which is why I post dumb doodly crap sometimes) but I want to get BETTER not stay stuck in a rut forever and ever.> I don't draw enough to be able to discuss things well from a technical/anatomy/etc standpointAnd this is why I give terrible crit!
>>86365Bad crit better than no crit, rite?
>>86360>>86363>>86364>>86365Well, there is CeeJay. She doesn't really give in depth crit or anything but she does get back to everyone who posts their fanart. A bro amongst bros.
>>86365That's what you end up having to do, build a little network of people either here on in streams or whatever that you can trust to actually sit down and analyze your art.
>>86369Bad criticism is worse than no criticism; it gives you terrible drawing habits that take forever to unlearn.
>>86365I think there was a place called "Conceptual Art" if I recall, that is specialized in art criticism: Thoguh I don't remember the link at the moment.Let me ask Andrei(who told me about that place) for the link. I think that might help you.
>>86378http://www.conceptart.org/CenceptArt.org? Yeah, they take their shit seriously but they're friendly all the same.
>>86379Yep.That's the place.
>>86379Thanks!:3
>>86337Quirk in the game, maybe. It was looking to fill the missing role and selected someone with enough bipolar to fulfill the job of two people. But if that's the case, well, we already have a full roster of Prositians. He should have two derse to make it equal. He doesn't. This is an important distinction because up until now Sburb was all about symmetry. This means Prospit has an extra tower and Derse is missing one. Not sure what the hell this means.
I'll just leave this right here...
>>86387Nah, should have left the one with Karkat o'Malley's face.
>>86344Okay thats pretty freaking awesome. But no horns :c

>>86400It could have been worse, Bea. Me, I got into drawing by copying Liefeld comics.
>>86404At least you draw great pouches and gritted teeth.
>>86397Actually he has exactly half the horns ;)Yeah, I'll grab my coat on the way out.
