It's funny, because somebody actually thought this was a good idea.

Ah dammit! and here I was hoping for another Mutant League Football show and THIS is what they're making.

No.79193
It worked for the 80s.

And only the little Terrell Owens can see these figments of his deranged mind

>NFL cartoon
Y'know, I was willing to accept an american football equivalent to Captain Tsubasa or something of the sort... But a flash-made shite plot cartoon? Not the same optimism there.

No.79367
>>79344
Oh hey!
I remember this!
Pretty boring series.

No.79371
>>79367

Should have been blatant ham Speed Racer clone. Course this show and the rest of its ilk came about the same time as the departure of the President that is now heading the Hasbro channel.

No.79373
>>79344
The weirdest thing besides them typically racing on a line track instead of traditional Nascar circles is that none of these characters are southern. You can have all the stupid flying cars and jet packs you want, but you try to put a damn rainbow brigade in Nascar, you have to be out of your goddamn mind to think that will work. Why does America always fail to make interesting sports cartoons? Why do companies always have to make these stupid Autistic fantasy worlds instead of a slice of life with actual info about the sport their trying to advertise? Are they trying to sabotage their own endeavors just to under-right the cost of animating this shit?

I mean it will never compare to playing or watching the real thing but come on.

No.79376
>>79373

See what you are talking about is something that would have been somewhat original and Television Executives are scared shirtless by original. Nascar Racers was basically "Pole Position" as a team sport (course it might have had something to do with the odd Team Nascar sport racing they were attempting to make at the time as well)

No.79380

Yeah but we're talking about a gambit that's going to lose in the long run anyway. No western sport cartoon has ever lasted long no matter how low they aimed or how many crappy tropes at the time they relied on. Their old ways have always failed. Bombing with some kind of dignity has to be better than making yet another piece of garbage that will just be canned anyway.

No.79381
>>79380
The problem is that it's still a brand that's never been heavily associated with cartoons to begin with so dignity is definitely a no-no.

No.79386
all sports cartoons or games should take inspiration from barkley shut up and jam gaiden

Fuck you, this was great.

I still remember & occasionally hum one of the bad guys' theme.

Just imagine how much worse it would be if it was made in canada.

I guess it would make sense.

Al Davis would be a great cartoon villain, he would do more damage to his own cause then anyone else could ever dream of doing.

I said I don't care about shit like rocket cars and wormholes. I do think they should have stuck to what works best and just had a bunch of red neck characters as they are the only people that care about the those circle races. Pander to the children most likely to be fans and all that.

And of course, the evil organization he heads up will be named "Raider Nation".

Oh fuck, I remember all the female characters joined together to form their own team and were all GRRL POWUH! for half a season, before disbanding. Their reason for doing so was that "they'd proven their point".

You see? Even in parody this teaches kids more about the sport in one episode than most of these other series could not cover in their entirety. Giving them some context will help hook them in more than just flash in the pan marketing of cheap toy lines that have sales for about a week or so.

No.80682
It's obviously not impossible to create a compelling cartoon about a sport. Japan does it all the time. The problem with these is that they aren't being created as their own work; they're cynical tie-ins to existing product.

No.80692
>>80682
They aren’t tie-ins; they are the driving force and attraction to them. These kids wouldn't know about shit without the horrible cartoon nor would they care to whine enough for their parents to buy it without liking them in the show.

No.80776

Given the posters in /sp/, there are some fans of Football who don't know how it's played.

I only had a vague idea until I was like, twenty. I knew you had to move the ball to the end zone and then you got to kick for extra points, and that the quarterback threw the ball, but outside of that it was totally opaque to me.

And care to guess what it was that finally did explain it to me?

No.80824
>>80778
I don't really know how it's played save a few rules.
But the reasons as to why are obvious.

A more fair example would be the offside rule in divegrass. I didn't really understand it until pre-WC, actually.
