>>60473I snorted at this one.
I'm enjoying Hanna Is Not A Boy's Name, and I don't even care.
>>60546Is it uncool to like this comic now? Those page layouts! That colour! Hanna is some high quality stuff.
>>60546>>60559The slash fandom is totally overrunning everything. It's a bit hard to enjoy something when there are a thousand screaming fangirls right around the corner.Speaking of gay, you know whats not getting any attention despite having solid writing, art, updates and a protagonist who is a flaming homo-communist-wrestler-revolutionary?Goodbye Chains.
>>60568You can ignore the fandom, and Tessa doesnt seem to completely cater to the slash shit.
>>60570Well yes, I have my own reasons for not loving the comic. I'm just stating why most people are kind of shying away from the comic now, for fear of being labelled a slash crazy fangirl. Silly, but keep in mind most people who read it are from dA.
>>60568I knew this was gonna get slashed to hell very shortly into it.....but who gives a shit?
>>60570It does get kinda hard to avoid it if you're looking for fanart or something, since slash permeates like 99% of it. Sometimes I get fed up with it, but I like the actual comic and I like its author and I hope to god the fandom doesn't ruin it for me one day.I keep meaning to read Goodbye Chains but have never gotten around to it.
You fuckers better be reading http://thechipperwhale.com/ and http://www.lovemenicecomic.com/

>>60600HAPPY LESBIANS YAY
>>60570>You can ignore the fandomUnless you want to, you know, discuss the comic with other people. Then your thread either gets hijacked with fangirls or anti-hipsters.
>>60499Ax Cop confirmed for Pyro.
My friend and generally reliable person just said that Dominic Deegan is actually really good. Has the internet lied to me?
>>60698Not really. The story isn't ridiculously horrible (as far as I've read anyway) but it's not that good either. And I hate the art. I hate the art so much that it hurts. Maybe your friend's more forgiving about the snout noses than I am.
>>60698there is something seriously wrong with your friend. Like, he might secretly read twilight and CAD behind your back.
>>60698I've been in that boat. My friend and generally reliable person told me that CAD was actually really great/better than Penny Arcade.Anyway, I'd go with the Internet on this one. Dominic Deegan makes my skin crawl.
>>60703>>60707>>60708Can I have details? My friend says that it has a good setting, characterization, and overall execution. I mentioned the rape thing, which is one of the few details I actually knew about it, and she said that it was handled relatively well. She went on to say that the comic touches on some sensitive subjects that might turn people away from it.Neither of us mentioned the art, but I think that she might have a higher tolerance for that particular style than I do.
>>60716>The legendary rape DD rape scene>Handled wellAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAhahah... Whoo. That's... That's a good one.
>>60720I can't use uninformed disagreement as a counterargument. I need explanations of the comic's badness, preferably from someone who's read a significant portion of it.
>>60716You're friend is wrong on all accounts.Mookie (which should be enough to tell you whether or not this is a good comic; it's made by someone with a high school mentality who thinks being called a cutesy nickname at 30 is endearing and not creepy) is completely incapable of handling drama and the fact that your friend thinks that the rape arc was handled well is really worrying. The rape arc basically boiled down to "It's okay to rape sometimes and also the person you raped will probably fall in love with you and forgive you and no one will ever villainize you for for being disgusting person" which tl;dr= mookie had to creat4e some drama so he decided "justified" rape was an appropriate way to achieve this goal. The current arc revolves around Mookie Dominic Jrs band. He's writing about music in a comic. You know, the visual media where there ARE NO SOUNDS. It's Mookie jerking off about how AWESOME HEAVY METAL IS (oh p.s. D Jr. just invented heavy metal after no one appreciated his first band he put together with the help of his friends because he had to PROVE HIMSELF TO THE WOOOORLD) while literally having no idea what the metal genre is composed of. Why would you write an arc about music if you can't even draw a guitar, for fuck's sake?Oh and do you like puns? I sure as fuck don't when every single strip is some godawful play on words (i.e. commenting on someone who is about to commit suicide by hanging "No, that is [i]knot[/] the answer!" complete with beat panel and all) that would not even make sense unless they were written down because Mookie thinks that homophones qualify as a joke. Spoiler: They don't.There are no sensitive subjects brought up in Dominic Deegan, only highschool bullshit (jocks are bad!) and attempts at heavy handed drama that are executed with the finesse of a amputee trying to wield chopsticks (oh no you are barren soooooooooooo dramatiiiiic and it is never mentioned again). One of the plots revolved around the murder of someone's "evil", by which I mean she was the designated evil character for no rhyme nor reason and had no reason to act like a bad person other than Mookie needed and bad character so why not, girlfriend. Rather than handle this without looking like a total dipshit, Mookie decided to draw the girlfriend who is also a hooker (because women have two roles in Mookie's world as girlfriends/sex objects or as evil bitches) with her ass prominently displayed in the air while the main cast sat around and cracked puns chortling about how great it was that she was dead. What the christ. The art is hideous, the characters one dimensional, Mookie's world view hilariously immature at best and blatantly offensive at worst and the jokes (or, I should say, attempts at jokes) are awful and suicide inducing. If you read it I will DISOWN YOU YOU HEAR ME
>>60723I'll just add that he has no sense of worldbuilding whatsoever. His setting is inconsistent at best, a giant junk heap of whatever he found lying around at worst. Plus, he doesn't understand how to use mood or how to juggle dramatic and humerous moments. And the art has hardly improved at all in eight years. He still has no comprehension of what a human face looks like in profile view. He still half-asses backgrounds whenever he decides to draw them (which is never). And all the characters look exactly the same; the only way to tell them apart is by their hairstyle, clothing and whether or not they have boobs.
>>60725Anon is very right. If that weren't enough to convince you, the Deegan forums literally have no fans in both the official forums (which I think may have been shut down after Mookie realized no one like his shit) or the keenspot ones, only very annoyed snarkers and people who read his comic solely to laugh at how bad it is. It was featured on "Your Webcomic is Bad and You Should Feel Bad" and has its own hate megathread on Something Awful, a dubious honor previously reserved only for CAD.It's bad.Just awful.
It looks like he put some effort into drawing the fifth panel here, and it actually looks kind of cool. That's the only panel of Dominic Deegan I have thought to be aesthetically pleasing, ever. I don't know if he can actually draw and is holding onto the dervative anime junk because he thinks that the "style" fits his comic, or the skeleton was just a fluke. Probably the latter.Let's highlight some gripes I've got with the comic's art:- Static fucking camera angles. Dominic Deegan is not a joke-a-day webcomic--it's got a narrative, it's supposed to evoke some sort of emotion in the reader. A good way to do that is to show movement and have variety in the angles. Does he do this? No. This page (for the most part; like I said, fifth panel is an anomaly) exemplifies his unwillingness to do anything but a flat, straight-on shot, over and over again. Dynamic angles and perspective are for losers who actually spend more than six minutes sketching their comic. What a waste of time that is.- He's inconsistent in drawing faces even when he is essentially copying them from one panel to the next. Here we see that he can't decide what Gregory's eyebrows look like, or if he even has them at all.- I also chose this page because it's that goddamned snout nose drawn over and over again. Has he ever looked at a human being from the side? Does he know that we have things called lips, and there is not, in fact, a straight drop from the tip of the nose to the chin?- Here, Gregory is sitting in a featureless white void, sitting near a large box, writing on paper in a way that no actual person would write on paper. This is like most panels. Also, it doesn't show his lower body. Mookie really hates the lower body (he can't draw legs worth shit and he knows it, so he gave up), so get used to not seeing it ever if you read Dominic Deegan.- He doesn't understand the upper torso either, mind you. This character is male. He looks like he has boobs. The only way you can tell that he is not female, in fact, is that Mookie didn't give him an eyelash at the side of his eye, and he's not wearing ridiculous revealing clothes.- What the fuck is with him and drawing random lines all over the characters' faces. What is it supposed to represent?? Is everyone blushing for no reason whatsoever all the time?
On the subject of art and cinematic angles, does anyone read The Meek? God it's beautiful.
I miss Sexy Losers
I miss Loserz
Oh and 8BT ended today.Hm.In other news guess what tomorrow is the anniversary of?http://ctrlaltedit-online.com/gallery/index.php/MEGALOSS
>>60633>Then your thread either gets hijacked etc. For what it's worth, I promise I will never do that. I have a deep and abiding love for Alien Vs. Predator, because/in spite of the sex jokes, poop jokes, pop culture jokes, and the New York jokes that I don't have a prayer of really understanding. AVP rarely settles for a plain setup-and-punchline; it usually has two or three funny things happening in the background too.
>>60736>I don't know if he can actually draw and is holding onto the dervative anime junk because he thinks that the "style" fits his comic,According to TV Tropes, that's what he says. Apparently his artistic ability has expanded since he began, but he thinks that this style is what works for DD.
>>60760That "style" is cribbed straight from the Slayer's anime. Mookie is an unoriginal hack in every sense of the word. Also just because he came up with an excuse as to why his "style" sucks doesn't mean it's true. It's telling that everything he draws even after 7 (?) years of doing nothing but drawing day after day is terrible. He simply refuses to get out of this rut he's dug himself into because, like Buckley, he refuses to improve as an artist because he's lazy and uninspired.
>>60752NEVAR FORGET
>>60760I think I saw something that was supposed to be his "good" style once and wasn't very impressed.I may be thinking of Buckley, though.
I love Questionable Content.
>>60783sure is bad webcomics in here
I'd wager that this is his "good" style. It's more detailed and stuff.Still pretty mediocre, still has anatomy issues, still looks like he half-assed it. The problem with him, I believe, is that he's spent so many years not giving a shit about what his comics look like that he's actually forgotten how to put effort into drawing them. He spends maybe ten minutes roughly sketching out his drawings and whoops that eye looks kinda weird but who cares let's ink it anyway, it's not like these strips are going to be hanging in an art gallery one day so WHO CARES how many mistakes are in it. It's not like mistakes can detract from the story or anything! It's just a comic!
>>60783Me too.
>>60783Questionable Content is cute! I don't really follow it but the characters are likable and the art is ok. I wouldn't consider it to be a bad webcomic...

>>80180When it comes to comedy, Willis is not really bad Tiki.Specially when it comes to comic/toys references. And even if the most of the core cast are very unlikeable. But when it comes to drama, Willis can't write it properly, even if the universe depends on it.
The Meek is updating again!!I read this chapter when Der-Shing was posting sketch chapters, it was really awesome. Can't wait to see it edited and in full colour.
you think we'll ever see another Anime Club arc?

>>91258Oh god, There are three different webcomic authors in this webcomic. Why do they gather together like this? Hussie and Ryan North are bros. John Campbell and Ryan Estrada lived together in Mexico, I think. There is this subconscious drive. A calling in the back of their heads. Eventually all the webcomic artist of the internet will converge in a grand hive. The Penny Arcade Guys, Kurtz and Straub have already begun building it and when its finish Warren Ellis will take Wil Wheaton as his bride and begin a new world order of web based sequential art.
Oh wow Team Diva. Seriously?Killed by a door? Come on!
>>91457Or it could just be a good old fashioned Gathering.Buckley's gonna win the Prize, I can feel it.

AW SHITFINALLY
>>92945>What_the_fuck_am_I_reading.jpg
>>92947Short answer: the comic is Effort Comics, and takes place in a setting in which humans and "cartoons" lives side-by-side. There have been hints of these two characters getting together for a while now, and it's finally happening. Also, the artist is known for drawing porn and while the comic is technically NSFW there hasn't been a lot to justify it so far.
>>92973Is there any porn of the chesty green girl?Because you may have my interest.
>>92989Scratch that, there's porn.Check the comic.
Hey, hate to dominate this thread, but does anyone have that Kate Beaton comic in which she sums up the archetypal Charles Dickens story? I can't seem to find it.
>>93047This? More detail required.
>>93062It basically broke his writing style down to its basic components, including the quirky supporting cast and the villain getting what they deserve.
Dodged a bullet there Angela. And here the results of >>92015>Live: 1108>Die: 491>Yes: 19>No: 51>Maybe: 8>Haikus and other poetry: 2Though I'm not interested in that character, frankly I founded stupid to be killed in a very lame fashion.
Also, I miss Brinsons art.
>>93068are those two characters' noses as ridiculously pointy as seen from profile or is it just an artists quirk when drawing from that angle
>>93072They're crossover characters from Doonesbury.
>>93072The pointy noses are part of their designs. But I think it's more a quirk from this new artist.
>>72033Where is this from?
>>93069Is that how they're handling the origin of Ultimate Squirrel Girl?
TEH NED
I'll be fucked if I'm going to post the whole thing.Go to Gunshow and see the rest.DO IT.
>>93167Thank God.
>>93171For the court, please show us on the doll where the webcomic touched you when it forced you to read it.
>>93167Oh. I wasn't aware this was the end of the series arc.
HAHAHAHAHA, yesssss!
>>93181Its very existence was a blight.I stopped reading it long ago.
The last several pages have been discussions between Charlie and Tramennis, two of my favorite characters. Nothing but discussions, exposition and plot stuff. And I love it.

From the forums:>Okay! So! Lemme start from the beginning, I suppose!>The latest story arc was supposed to be a pretty significant one. Without spoiling anything, the end of it was supposed to start something for the comic. Not end the comic. Then, as you all saw, the comic stopped updating.>I will say as much as I can while saying as little as I can as I have reasons for keeping these things to myself, but the last year has not been a pleasant one for me. Started with one thing in August, I believe, and my wonderful family has managed to keep up a chain of events that have made my life very stressful. The past few months in specific have brought 3 attempted suicides within my family. I'm not joking. I've almost become desensitized to it all. Things have recently died down and I'm also removing myself from this stressful environment in the coming months.>Somewhere in that I posted here on the forums that I was ending the comic. The logic was I was not in a great place, I wasn't updating, and ultimately the comic was suffering because of it.>Fast forward to the E3 comic. I was doing okay, Nami showed me a thread with a forum goer saying how sad it would be without an E3 comic this year, and shortly after Ryan C prompted me for a guest strip. I decided that we couldn't have a year without an E3 comic, and we worked on both of ours together, and for the first time in ages, I had a good time drawing a comic. Was fun! Thanks to Nami, Ryan, and random poster 1235357! More events spoiled that good mood, but hey! C'est la vi. We got some comics up! Yay!>I was purposely vague about the update schedule. Haven't known when I'd be up to drawing it. Just that the updates were coming. The plan became, well, screw it. Let's get that original idea started up with the last arc! I've been planning to remove the last arc, rewrite it, and redraw it, and I will when I can, and update with random comics here and there (You should hopefully see one this week) until I get the arc fully fleshed out and ready to go up which should also be in the coming months. Hopefully September.>So! The reasons behind it all, I think. If anyone has any more questions regarding the comic, I'll be happy to answer them.>Oh, and I was thinking about posting more on the forums again. Why not toss that out there as well. What say you all? I AM LITERALLY TREMBLING WITH EXCITEMENT.I LOVE YOU FANBOYS.I LOVE YOU MR. DEWITT.I AM SO HAPPY RIGHT NOW.
>>94604I *want* to be happy, but this also makes me want to go ahead and delete my bookmark. His "comeback" set of strips ("Whatcha Watchin'?") features a self-torturing artist (strip 1) killing himself (2) and his family (3). The unfinished story arc was clearly leading up to his primary characters acting out a "Final Destination" scenario. Yeah, I think I can read between *those* lines. Sure, he says everything's getting awesomer now. We'll see. Maybe. The vast majority of webcomicers, I've come to realize, are emotional eggshells who act like they're aluminum baseball bats. I deliberately trolled one who was using his newfound tiny fanbase as an excuse to scream U R ALL DUMFUX IM BIGAR TAN JEEZUS at the world, including his fellow artists. His responses alternated between LOL U MAD ROFL!!1 to playing the ol' race card to screaming rants against other critical posters he assumed to be me--before finally cooking up a SUPER COOL STALKER STORY BRO, complete with a fictional (and bizarrely homoerotic) threat (naturally "reported to my ISP and the authorities," who strangely had no idea what I was talking about when I inquired, honk honk). Cherry on top: he strongly suggested he might commit suicide if I wasn't dealt with. (There's a SUPER COOL SUICIDE STORY BRO in the site's history, apparently.) I was peebo'd, but it was totally worth. And he hasn't been acting like such a complete and utter asshole lately, so maybe it all worked *exactly as planned.*)The difference here is, I like "Fanboys," and I have no personal opinion of DeWitt beyond the strip itself. But I don't want to sit on this bus while he keeps asking, "Which would you do? Pills or razor blade? I'm not gonna do it, I'm just askin'."
>>94618The guy clearly says he was going through a rough time while declining to elaborate or dwell on it. A little black humor hardly makes him a prima donna.
>>94618Anon, that story you told makes you look worse than your intended target of ridicule.
>>94713I'm okay with that. But perhaps I wasn't crystal clear: all the talk of stalking, threats, suicide, and whatnot were 100% buzzword-loaded fiction from my opponent, used to justify my ban in light of his past insistence that he wants to hear everyone's opinions. For my part, I pointed out (admittedly in the most button-pushing ways for which he presented opportunities, which were far too many to resist) that he was not the brilliant creative genius, Godlike figure, or center of universe he likes to fancy himself as. Nobody who spends THAT much time curled up under the table in the fetal position, crying, has any business cursing out the rest of the world on what's "punk rock" (as just one example).Point being: emo eggshell mistaking himself for an aluminum bat.
>>94777Don't go around smashing eggs.
>>94797But then how will he make his webcomic-artist omelette?
Eggshell or not, everyone needs someone to slip through the sycophants and give them a tap on the snout once in a while, especially if they're getting too big for their booties. Otherwise it's like a high school diploma "earned" through social promotion, or deviantArt.
Bobwhite continues to be one of my favorite things.
Can we just, you know, enjoy it?
Penny Arcade provides some incredibly heartwarming RPG-related stories.>My Monday D&D game was played at home this week since I just got my new Emissary table from Geek Chic. Gabe had to go to bed around 8:00 but begged me to let him stay up at watch us play. I’ve “played” D&D with him before but this was a real game with grownups and he could tell it was something different. I don’t blame him for wanting to stay up and watch but he had school in the morning and I knew the language was not going to be six year old appropriate. I explained that this was daddies game and maybe some day when he’s older he can play in it.>Later that night Kara brought down a note that he had written. It was done in crayon on a little piece of sketch paper:>WEN I AM 7 CAN I PLA DUNJNS AND DRAGINS>Awesome.
Holy shit this page is great.
