So I just read Hellboy: Bride Of Hell, it was great.Richard Corben's art is a little weird to me, but I enjoy it. The story was little sad, though. I felt a bit bad for Asmodeus and the girl. Then I read the next Hellboy story, the third part of this big ol' Hellboy storyline is gonna be split up into two parts. The Storm (3 issues) in July 2010 and The Fury (3 issues) in April 2011.FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF
FFFFFFFFFFFFI'm still reading the original series, I gotta catch up.
>>37267WHY IS IT SO FAR AWAY???
I agree with you about Corben's art. It just doesn't sit so well with me. But he did Makoma, right? I liked the art for that story... that seemed to fit. Outside of the context of an ancient fable like that, though, it's kinda weird. That was a really sad issue... especially for Asmodeus.I really enjoyed the last Hellboy story (the long one, can't remember the title)... what an ending. Jeez. But I'm looking forward to new BPRD even more. That collection of characters is just so close to my heart, I really want to see more of them... without more of them dying.
Yeah, The Bride of Hell was awesome. As for the next mini being in 2010, I just hope that means we're getting a few one-shots in before then. When does the next BPRD mini come out?
I'm not too wild about Corben either. But the story makes up for it.Posting more found fanart.
>>37368B.P.R.D.: King Of Fear #01, which will end this latest B.P.R.D. trilogy comes out next Wednesday. No one shots are planned between January and April.
So, BPRD: King of Fear came out. Figured I'd revive this thread.SO, yeah, I liked it. I have a feeling this is not the End for Lobster Johann, and that we'll get to see "THE RETURN TO HUNTE CASTLE!".
I quite enjoyed the first King of Fear too. BPRD is sometimes a little weak on their "intro" issues, but this one did well. Also, who's the guy Kate was with again?
>>38845The German police captain who was with them when the shit hit the fan and there were robots, I think. I don't have my back issues here. :(
>>38874I figured it was him.Go Kate!
Linking to the old threads for good measure>>7186>>16247
And the blurb for the 4th King of Fear:Beneath the ruins of the Hyperborean temple, Liz is given the most startling visions yet of the end of the world—and Abe discovers his role in it when he finds the link between himself and the frog monsters. Will Liz and Abe lead the world to apocalypse?Called it!

>>39932I CALLED IT I FUCKING CALLED IT THIS WHOLE FUCKING TIME THIS IS GOING TO BE AWESOME OH MY GOD
>>40594Woo, bros in calling! *highfive*Can't wait to see how these little guys stir up the mix.
>>39932>>40594GOD DAMN IT I FUCKING KNEW IT TOOI fucking predicted this back months ago. The second we saw that giant jellyfish thing I fucking knew it, god I knew it and I was right. The thing Abe merged with was one of the Ogdru Hem. In his first mini they even say as much, that it "takes over" men and has in the past but hasn't been seen for many years. Of course not, because Abe was in a fucking tube the whole time.god DAMN IT If this means Hellboy is going to have to go against Abe I will kill myself.
thread needs more johann.
>>40655I would probably die from awesome. But I'm not sure if that would mean they'd go against each other. I mean, Hellboy has that whole "end of the world" thing going on, and now Abe too... It's like they're on the same side anyway, no?>In his first mini they even say as much, that it "takes over" men and has in the past but hasn't been seen for many years.I don't remember this at all. Got a scan to back it up? I do remember the "your father *cut to jellyfish deity*" thingy. >>40658
And a mini art-dump
>>40660well, they don't say it outright, it's more said throughout the issues. Took me a few reads to get it. If you have it handy or have a library go rent it and reread it. It's basically how he isn't the first person to be "chosen" and how it's been this way through history, you know, "sunken bells are tolling for thee" and all that.after reading it.... I knew. Boy I hope they get Johann back. BPRD isn't BPRD without Johann.
>>40673I'll have to re-read it then. I really shouldn't be having trouble with reading English, but I have to admit I only got most of "The Drowning" after my second read, and some more subtle elements after my third. Apparently I'll need a fourth.
>>40655That's pretty much what my assumption has been this whole time... or at least what my hope has been. I'm really excited to see how this all pans out. Though I think it would be incredibly awesome for him to duke it out with Hellboy.I'm not sure if they're on the same side, though... I mean, there are so many different forces competing the end the earth. I recall the underground dudes talking about the "left" and "right" hands in Hollow Earth and thinking that maybe they represented different forces... I don't know. I really need to reread all this sometime. But that would be so cool... Abe as a Big Bad. I mean, those things are conqueror-worm sized big freaking deals.
I just found out Mignola did some delicious covers for x-men back in the day. *slow*http://master-post.livejournal.com/2140.html
>>40803Drawing Nightcrawler should be right up his ally.
http://bprd.centerblog.net/It's all in French so you'll have to brush up your high school knowledge of the language. Or you could just look at all the pictures. The guy seems to have an enormous HB collection and keeps pretty up to date. Also, Lobster Johnson: he's totally stealing your name ;) .
>>41402THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE!
I had forgotten about all the frogs raining down the day Caul did (or failed to do?) his thing. It felt important at the time and now... finally... we get to find out why!I'm inordinately excited about these next few issues. Then Daimio time! If everyone is alive to enjoy it!
>>42327I totally forgot about the raining frogs thing.
Guys, guys! We're getting the Mexico story! >HELLBOY IN MEXICO (OR, A DRUNKEN BLUR)>During the 1950s, Hellboy caravans across Mexico with a trio of vampire-killing luchadores, finding the undead; evil turkeys; a terrible bat god; and a little too much tequila. On the other hand, Corben is at is again.
>>43198I like Corben...
>>43215I don't mind him, but he still doesn't feel "right" to me.
>>43223YOU don't feel right! >:(Also, FFFFFF not having a LCS. I need King of Fear #2 so bad it hurts. Are there any scans?

>>44762...where are you going, why do you need water and where are you going to get it from?
>>44769He's too badass for details.
>>43198FFFF, I'VE WANTED THIS FOR SO LONG.I wish Mignola was drawing it. But Corben's okay, I suppose.
Does BPRD/Hellboy have any kind of fandom somewhere on the internet? When I'm into something I just like to read posts talking about it, debating, speculating, and such, but I can't find any place like that for this. Except CBR forums, but that place is not very active.
>>44980CBR is all I got, too. There's probably stuff for the movie fanatics, but I wanna discuss the comics :c These threads are the closest I got.
Cool art. I love the little kids one!Re: image. How the hell do I not notice these things the first time? The one on the left is from the last issue of The Warning.
>>46036Oh shit.C'mon Delcourt, hurry with your translations so I can notice these things too. I always seem to miss things when reading on the screen.
Crazy productive Russian Nightcrawler fan, but also did this cute doodle.http://lm2.diary.ru/
Also, Darkhorse is now doing a special BPRD newletter. Check the Hellboy zone.
Reread the first TPB, and noticed that they already brought up the Abe/frogs thingy.
>>47170It is driving me CRAZY that they seemed to have all this planned from the start. I can't think of any story so wide-reaching yet so self-contained... I mean, it's so huge but the signs were there and we never even caught on. One of his first pages and it has frogs, Cavendish, a connection... Jeez. I love Hellboy/BPRD!
>>47182I wonder if he planned it, or went back himself and figured, "hey, I could use this in the future".
>Today's BPRD issue
>>47564Dear sweet lord this issue blew my mind in ways unheard of previously.
>>47579I had no words after I finished reading, apart from "ffffffuuuuuuuuuu--". The cover is worrying me. A tadpole transforming into a frog... things are going to get bad :(What concerns me:-The King of Fear asks Abe to think on it... while he lives. Though Black Flame seems to be diverging from whatever the original plan was.-They referenced Hellboy. Is Abe the monster Hellboy was to bring into the world? Is he a second plan that will bring it into the world now that HB's decided not to?-Liz's "mentor" wanted to fight the forces of Black Flame and the King of Fear. Abe's with them now and it seems he has a pretty important role to fulfill. Now will Liz have to deal with him?-Are those giant bowls of people? But I really enjoyed happy Black Flame :D and how oddly friendly he is with Abe, who is apparently always the last to find out about EVERYTHING, including his destiny. Now I have to go and reread The Black Flame to figure out what Abe hasn't figured out yet. Also, where have we heard about "the spider and the fly" before (other than the poem)?
>>47584I want him to suffer, though. I know this might be a little over the top since it is fiction, but I FUCKING HATE Black Flame for taking Roger away...
>>47584Also wasn't the demon guy from Wild Hunt part of something to do with a fly. Fly ring, right? I dont have my back issues here or I'd research...Sage for double post.
>>47584If I recall correctly, the fly is a house in Hell, Referenced in The Wild Hunt. The demon that Hellboy fought on the bridge is a Lord in the House of the Fly.perhaps the spider refers to another house in hell? I have to do more research on this sort of mythology. But man, this issue was... Holy fuck. Also, I'm glad they're doing more with Black Flame, and expanding more ont he Dagon thing from Universal Machine.
>>47170It might be Mignola going back, as he originally had a different origin for Abe in mind.
Holy shit, guys, I found it. Where we last heard about the Spider and the Fly. It's from The Island #2. This issue also has tons about The Black Goddess, the new race of man (the frogs), and the bit about taking strength from the Ogdru Hem in the air to raise the Ogdru Hem out of the ground.
And I don't know, but these all look like they're the same thing. It could be just similar monster design, but... do you see the resemblance?
>>47591They all share elements of eels and crustaceans, and spiders for the numerous eyes. The bottom-right creature is lacking the eyes, though.
>>47584I really like how this issue managed to incorporate some humour."I knew I would regret teaching him English..."I'm still figuring the big picture of this issue out, but man, shit's going down. Really need to reread some issues.
>>47632I feel like I need to reread EVERYTHING. It all goes back so far. Maybe I'll just wait til this arc is over, then make a day of it!And you're right, it's been a while since BPRD was funny. It was pretty refreshing. And even though it's obvious the King of Fear wants to destroy all mankind, I felt pretty bad for him as he slowly realized Black Flame was betraying him. If that's what that was about. Still, it's odd he though Abe knew what was going on already. Did he also think that back when he specifically told him that he'd make a mistake?Man, no comics out there today make me ask so many questions and go digging around in old issues. I love it!
Haha, wow. Excuse the probable extreme lateness of this, but look at all this name-dropping from the 3rd issue of Witchfinder. Cool!
>>49253Follow-up: Oh my god, why didn't I read this before? This is AWESOME.
>>49253Ffff- I'm trying to be patient here and wait for the trade... don't tempt me, anon.
>>49281It'll be well worth the wait to have it all collected in one place. You can do it, anon!
More Abe in June.
>>49445Oh hi, Oannes/Dagon in background :) I'm excited about this one, I liked Snejbjerg's art the last time around.Pic unrelated, but awesome.
>>49458>Johann>plate with Pamcakes indicating HellboyI still want to see these two actually meeting each other in the comic... someday.
Well, I've scoured Pixiv yet again and have returned with a small picspam of what I liked :)
I just wish there were more comic fanart, Japanese or not.
D'aww. Ugly-ass baby.
I love this one!
I think it's a girl.
Should...not...want...
I want to see more of HB and Liz when she was a kid. What little we saw in Hollow Earth was adorable.
???

I honestly don't want to know but I lol'd
The end.
>>49548<3 this, but who is the guy with the sheet over his head?>>49553Pull the tail off Thanks anon, I love imagedumps.
>>49587I'm pretty sure it's Roger's crazy older (and less perfect) brother.>>49550I just realized HB has a picture of Roger's crotch on his wall.
Wow, I love these. I always liked seeing Japanese fanart of western characters.
>>49587That's Roger's "older brother". A homunculus that was made by the same Alchemist who made Roger. He's the one who made other, tinier, homunculus, and then made himself into a giant human fat monster. Roger (still imbued with Liz's fire) killed him, and then he and then Hellboy rushed him back to the Hospital where Liz was, so he could give her back the fire. Hellboy named him Roger in the car. This all went down in "Almost Colossus", which was reprinted in Hellboy Volume 3, "The Chained Coffin and Other Stories", and again in Hellboy Library Edition Volume 2. Personally, I dislike the movie versions of the characters (even in the fanart), especially Abe. I hate him so much, not because he's this... oversensitive pansy, but because comic Abe is fucking awesome. Also, Johann. In the movie he's voiced by Seth McFarlane and is a douchebag.
>>49709Comic Abe would kick your ass and gun you down if you tried to start shit
>>49715Exactly. If you like, slapped movie Abe he'd just say "Oh..." and hold his cheek. Then maybe look off to the side and try not to cry.Comic Abe > Movie Abe
>>49727Because movie Abe is so moe~ Seriously though, I like comic Abe better. And I'd like a solo story of his that doesn't depict him as close to his movie half, namely a bit inexperienced and awkward. I'm pretty happy with what we got, but it could be better.
I think comic!Abe has always been somewhat more reserved than, say, Hellboy. He always knew when, where, and how to kick ass--and did so when it was necessary. But after HB left, there was a void in BPRD leadership that he just naturally came to fill as he discovered more about himself and became increasingly sick of everyone's bullshit. (Remember the bit in Plague of Frogs where he "sounded like HB"? Like that.) That's something I love about the character--he's grown so much recently, and it seems that, without HB to take care of everything, he's finally become his own entity. One that gets shit done. Movie!Abe has gone through none of his, is still taken care of by Red, and apparently has no idea how to kick ass.
D'aaawww.From this Fegredo interview: http://www.newsarama.com/comics/duncan-fedredo-hellboy-100311.html
I'll be sad to see Fegredo go after The Fury.
>>49797You know, back in '06 I was on the old hellboy.com, and I remember for MONTHS and MONTHS they had that one uncolored (possibly uninked) page that Fegredo drew up as a preview for the forthcoming Darkness Calls. It was the page where those Witch's familiars had run into Hellboy (prominent on the page, in my mind, was the girl with the shadowed face and cat eye). I remember thinking "This isn't Mignola, what is this?". I was really cautious about a new artist taking over, and was afraid that the whole thing might look bad for Hellboy. The art looked great, mind you, but I was afraid it wouldn't really fit with Hellboy. Then Darkness Calls finally came out and it was fantastic. I remember, for the first issue or so I was alright with it, "Okay, I guess this works". I didn't really like Fegredo on Hellboy until the point where Hellboy runs into that army of Russian skeleton soldiers. That's when it really clicked to me. "He's perfect for this!". The rest of the mini was really great, and I felt like that fight with Koschei the Deathless kind of made up for the lack of a fight between Hellboy and Girscuei from Wake the Devil. (Mind you, I love Wake the Devil, but I was expecting a really cool fight with the vampire). So basically, I really like this Duncan fellow, and it was nice to read that interview. Wild Hunt was so fucking cool, and even more I see that he can match that mythological/epic feel of Hellboy.>>49799Did he say he was done after The Fury? Does that imply that The Fury ISN'T the end?
I love Fegredo so much. After being spoiled by him and Mignola, I don't know how I could accept any other artist on HB.
>>49879So seconded.
>>49821Mignola has mentioned he is now somewhere halfway the Hellboy mythos. So expect 15 more years of Hellboy goodness! Also, did you mean this page?
Mignola interview with spoilers and a spotlight on Johann. Apparently, they're going to do more of these, so keep an eye on CBR.http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=25351
>>50031Awesome stuff. Discussions about BPRD's future worry me greatly, though :(
did anyone else realize that the guy helping the other goblins carry tam o'clannie in THE CORPSE is the same guy who follows gruagach and kills Dagda in DARKNESS CALLS?
>>50208Yeah, I've been wondering about that fucker for a while now. I think he's in some other things, but I'd have to go back and see.Unrelated to that, I love it when BPRD art (and good art, at that!) is posted on DA!
Awesome!

>>52105This is not what I called, but it is cool too!
>>52105 dammit, I wish I could find thesemy local comic shop only has the hellboy TPBs, nothing in the BPRD series...
>>52197Not even the BPRD TPBs? Weird, and unfortunate.
>>52317They've only had one of those (the soul of venice and other stories), which I bought. I think there used to be more, and that they just restock really slowly..
>>52331:[ Can you order them online? I recently bought about 8 TPBs (Hellboy, BPRD, and The Goon) from tfaw.com... and because they were nick & dent, they were all marked down a lot. (If they have another sale, I'll be sure to come post about it here!)
Interview with Mignola about the Storm!http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=25618
Also, I read a review of the first two TPBs (recently translated here) that basically said that you should just look at the art and not bother with the text since Mignola just randomly throws mythology together. Oh how wrong they were. Also, if you haven't joined the BPRD yet, do it. It's great fun. http://darkhorse.com/jointhebprd
Bruttenholm has not asked me to be his Facebook Friend yet. :(Maybe it's because he's dead.
I don't know what.

>>52479The first trade DOES have rough scripting that lacks the charm of the later books.Becuase John Byrne scripted it.
>>52995Yeah, like...it feels like a bumpy transition from doing super hero comics. I always feel really reluctant to suggest Hellboy sometimes because of the 1st volume.
>>52996ALWAYS suggest vol.3 first to anyone who is hesitant. Once you read The Corpse you don't go back.
>>52995I agree, but they got the exact same complaints with the second volume. Wonder what they'll say about the third.

>>53013It is. Is he the person with the black and white baby HB picture? I might just friend him, go for the direct approach. It's very interesting to go back and read the earliest stuff. It doesn't feel right at all--though the set pieces are there, the voice is all wrong. (Which makes sense, since it wasn't Mignola doing the writing.) But I enjoyed the little experimental sci-fi elements they toyed with back then, like when Abe and the other agent were riding jetpacks around a town (!) and the alien that helped HB. Though I would not be surprised in the least if the aliens made another appearance soon, in either of the books...
>>53022Dude, I loved the jetpacks. The jetpacks were awesome. Also, it took me way too long to figure the whole related Zinco business.Yes, that's him, but he doesn't accept direct friend requests.
>>53024Crap, I think my privacy settings got in the way. Okay, fixed, and rejoining the BPRD :)
>>53022 >Though I would not be surprised in the least if the aliens made another appearance soon, in either of the booksDoesn't a dying alien appear in the conquerer worm?
Yep, that's right. He was apparently present at Hellboy's "birth" and, since he saw free will in him, decided not to kill him. At some point there is a panel of a ship (maybe?) full of them, and one mentions "vril energy" (sound familiar?) I think those little guys probably know everything about this Apocalypse business. My bet is that they evolved from Watchers or Ogdru Hem of the sky.
What is this from? :O
>>53118Latest BPRD WHICH WAS FUCKAWESOME GAWDDoes that blob look like a new team member to you guys?
What does this meeeean
Oh my jesus fuck, WHAT.
>>53506Seconding this notion. Can Liz really not get away from this? Where did the guy with the red hand on his forehead come from? And wtf devolved monster Abe. Hurray Hellboy back at the BPRD at some point in the future. And God those pages drawn by Mignola were DELICIOUS. DAT COLOUR.
I really have no idea what the shit is happening but oh my god it's awesome. The hand guy has been around before (I think he's Shonchin), I think he was the one who had that weird artifact they found in Roger's room that Liz used to fuck the Black Flame's shit up the first time. This issue kind of freaked me out, since it's pretty obvious Abe doesn't have the willpower to resist whatever was about to happen... and what was that thing omg. Also......was that a super manly older Devon!?
>>53548Dear god, I think it is! Way to go, Devon.I don't blame Abe for having a hard time to resist though. That... thing is profoundly connected to him, isn't it?Also, I admit the whole Sonchin thing has always confused me. Can't seem to wrap my head around it.Argh I need to reread...
To be fair, we know next to nothing about Shonchin at this point. Maybe he'll have something to say next issue? .....my god, how am I going to be able to wait until the next one?
>>53548>>53549>>53550Nah, the guy with the hand print is separate from Shonchin. He's some sort of Hyperborean Priest from the first age of man. Shonchin is only obviously fucking around for some nefarious purpose. Also, maybe, maybe, That wasn't actually Abe, and was actually a more closely related Frogman..Alternatively, Shonchin isn't showing her the real future, or is, at least, hiding important aspects of it.
>>53514he's from one of the more recent hellboy tpbs, the last one by mignola. He was one of the hyperborians who segregated himself from the others who were doomed by hecate's temptation of knowledge and became the underworld guys who stole Liz in Hollow Earth. They're like... the GOOD hyperborians.I shat a brick when I saw him, holy fuck.AND I STILL CAN'T GET OVER IT.WHAT THE FUCK, THE BLACK FLAME?>>53776 guys don't kid yourselves :( That's Abe, that's Devon, and that's Hellboy. The future may not be accurate but I know Abe when I see him.I miss Daimio.
Notes on the latest issue-REALLY HOPE that this mean Devon won't die. I love the character, yet he seemed to have IS GOING TO DIE tatooed on his forehead since he was introduced-This is kind of selfish, but I hope any reintroduction of Hellboy happens in Hellboy, or the books fuse. I don't have money for the 10+ BPRD trades, and I just like the tone of Hellboy better.-Do all the Abe miniseries get collected in the BPRD trades?-Is the fact that the future BPRD uniforms make everyone look like Lobster Johnson intentional?
>>53870>yet he seemed to have IS GOING TO DIE tatooed on his forehead since he was introduced dude, how can you think so lowly of this comic? They wouldn't kill off a character for anything less than a damn good reason.
>>53870>>53876He's a non-powered character, in other series that would mean he's an acceptable kill. But look at Kate, she's still kicking. Devon will be handled fine. I like the guy too. Kind of surprised that he turned into a regular though.
I can't help but feel like that thing that had Abe entranced may be, like the jellyfish thing originally was, the catalyst for further transformation in him, leading to... what we saw. I can't think of any positive thing coming fr that experience... Now that he's been "awakened", I'm worried what'll happen next :(Also, the Hellboard seems to think Liz just time traveled and torched that future so it wouldn't happen... I don't think it's quite that simple. Something is still in motion as long as Abe's still alive... And I kind of thought the bit with Hellboy was just a vision. I want the next issue right now. :(
You know who I wish would make another appearance?Sidney Leech. We haven't seen him since Almost Colossus, and I'm wondering how he's doing. Also, if Hellboy rejoins the B.P.R.D., I hope they just combine the books into "Hellboy and the B.P.R.D." or something.
>>54128I could see them doing that for a bit, but not permanently. It seems like HB would probably visit (and help out) but I doubt he'd stay forever. So the titles could merge for the time he spends with them. I just want to see him meet all the new agents and get bitched out by Kate, Liz, and Abe for leaving for so long... :( You're right about Leach, though, where has he been hiding? Did he die and we didn't notice?
>>54128Ah, Human Metal Detector. I liked that guy, especially in the movies.
Meyers from the film should have just been Leach. How easy would that have been? When someone on /co/ posted this, it ruined the first movie for me :( Ah, what could have been...
>>54143... well damn, I will never un-think it now.
I just got the wild hunt TBPit's just great seeing all these classic fantasy creatures just coming out of the woodwork, and the way mignola/fedrego manage to make them fit in with the established hellboy setting is amazing. There's arthurian knights and witches and tolkeinesque elves and dwarves, but they are so ingeniously weaved into the story that they seem like original creations. The direction that mignola takes with established mythology, the way he effortlessly works it into his setting is simply breathtaking.
Does anyone know the best place online to order TPBs of Hellboy & BPRD? I'm going to go legit, and I want to get the most out of my money that I can... since there are so darn many of these.
>>54442I've been getting all mine from Amazon
Story time!
Mike considers THE MAGICIAN AND THE SNAKE the best thing he has ever done. Though scripted and drawn by him the 6 page story was actually plotted by his daughter Katie (at the time 7 years old) and earned both of them Eisner Awards for best short story.

It was an interesting issue! Not necessarily my cup of tea (I tend more toward the European folklore, and Lovecraftian horror, of course) but I enjoyed it. Pretty sad, though. Didn't know he had such a drinking problem at one point. Once again, they found the perfect type of story for Corben's art, and it fit just right. I should've trusted their judgment to start with!PS. Did the end of the comic imply that Hellboy ran off, got drunk, and took up luchador boxing for a few weeks before the BPRD caught up to him, and he's now a local hero in some town in Mexico?
>>57121Great one-shot
Loved Hellboy in Mexico. I really enjoyed Corben this issue.
>>57176Yes.
>>57121 I can't read it :(My version of adobe doesn't support the file type
>>57341Download Cdisplay and you'll be able to read .cbr and .cbz files :)
http://www.darkhorse.com/Comics/Previews/16-483?page=1Ahh! What! I'm starting to think that things might be worse on the surface than they ever were in that cave...
Fffffffffffff--Holy shit. With the UN and the-- Devon and-- giant thing-- islands-- that submarine... what the fuck just happened?
....My god, the world just... Man, that was a global disaster! And now we're again closer to the future we saw last issue, with the extra funding and all...Glad to see Panya and her kitty though. Poor Devon. First phone cells, now AbeAnd Zinco and Victorian robots are back! Fuck, this was epic.
>>58039The thing with Devon really intrigued me. First it just made me sad, but then I started wondering if it was more than some throwaway gag about his paranoia. Abe doesn't seem to remember anything about what happened in the cave, unless he's lying, but Devon does and he's terrified. I think he realized--after he failed to stop Abe from becoming entranced by the thing--that either Abe wasn't able to resist it, or didn't want to. I wonder if any of the surviving grunts remember it too. That's such a huge revelation to just be forgotten, so I hope it comes back to him. And international... Hellboy will have a fit whenever he visits.I'm so excited to see the Victorian steampunk guy back! I was thinking about it yesterday... When I read that arc, I thought their plan was pretty ridiculous and just regular cult stuff. But they were kind of right. Kind of completely right. And their plan to cause earthquakes to swallow up eastern Asian coastlines sounds familiar. Maybe the remaining one actually did it. Also, lol leapfrog... They knew a lot more than I gave them credit for.
>>57992okay, damage report.Liz torched the fuck out of something.. I think she might have dropped that entire island of borneo. Abe and company are safe but suffering from frostbite after trekking 5 hours in the frozen mountains.that giant fucking thing in california's coast is ... I don't know how big. That footage was from over 5 miles away. 5... fucking miles. And whatever's coming from it's head is some sort of contaminant. It's drifing down towards mexico. Whatever touches it is turned into fucking monsters.they just made the BPRD an international ... thing. It's not just America now, it's like, the fucking UN. my mind, my mind is full of fuck right now.
>>58110Is it just me or do these guys look a little spider-y?Spider of the Spider and the Fly, perhaps?
Not to get off-topic here, but has anyone else read any of the Hellboy novels? I've recently finished "The Ice Wolves" and I'm craving for more. Any suggestions?
>>58523I read Bones of Giants and really enjoyed it. It involves Thor's hammer and some pretty cool Norse mythology business. Loved the HB/Abe bromance bits. I could read anything about their dynamic and enjoy it.Are any of the novels more team-oriented? I know it's called "Hellboy", but I always enjoy it more if it's not just him.
>>58166 so we got frogmonsters and now spidermonsters.if your theory is correct and flymonsters are next on the agneda, the world is really fucked.
>>58549Isn't there tension between the demons & other guys down in "hell" and those who serve the spider and the fly? And that guy who took HB's blood really didn't like the idea of the frog people inheriting the earth. I guess what I'm saying is it would be ballin' as fuck if the forces of Hell decided to combat the threat of the Ogdru Hem.Though I'll admit I've never been able to figure out where the hell-demons stood on the issue of the (Ogdru Jahad-related) apocalypse. They seem to favor it, though I don't know if they'd live to see the next world. I just need to reread everything and actually try to sort it out.
>>58563INB4 hellboy unites humans, demons, and possibly faeries in an epic crusade to destroy the odgru-jahad and their spawn

>>58591You're welcome. I still have Odd Jobs and Bones of Giants too. The first and the last one, I don't have.
Art time!
Nice fanart finds!Darkhorse has posted the cover to BPRD: Hell on Earth: New World #2 Electric Boogaloo, along with a blurb:Paranoia and suspicion plague members of the B.P.R.D., as agent Kate Corrigan, strained over the new UN control, must also play mediator between a manipulative Panya and a broken down Johann, devastated over the giant body in a vat he can’t have. Meanwhile, Abe breaks from the team and investigates the horrors of the Northwestern woods. ...out September 8.
And also the cover and description of Hellboy: The Storm #3!The long-awaited follow-up to 2009’s The Wild Hunt comes to a terrible crossroads when Hellboy cuts a deal with the devious Baba Yaga that may secure the survival of mankind, but will change his life forever, and the Queen of Blood discovers that the source of her power has unexpected plans for her.
Oh, and there's a great sale on tfaw.com this weekend. Just grabbed a bunch of BPRD :)
>>60255in a hellboy thread yesterday, some fans theorized that gruagach will have to team up with hellboy at some point in the coming stories...
>>60326You know, I hope that happens. Re-reading Darkness Calls, I kinda feel bad for ol' Gruagach, and want to see him return. Also, hi, fault. I was the one posting pages to The Wild Hunt #1-2.
http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=26520So a new article giving some more tantalizing details about Hell on Earth is up... wow! New agents! Evil Abe! Liz gone! Big plans!
And a special guest appearance by Alan Moore.
bumpu~
>>71613 is that a ring of the house of the fly on Alan Moore's finger?
Anyone else see the 8-page preview for the next Hellboy comic? They have finally tied HB back to the BPRD and the real world. I won't be too surprised if he eventually crosses paths with Liz one of these days.
>>76842apparently there is a crossover in the works after Fury
>>76843Whaaaat, source?
I don't know, I just can't get myself to like these one-shots or miniseries. At least not those directly relating to current BPRD members. It's just so jarring to see them removed from their current context... Though he biggest problem for me is that I prefer the longer stories and more stretched out timeline of the main series. Bitching aside, Abyssal Plain wasn't too bad, though the art (Abe's face especially) got weird sometimes. I really enjoyed the appearance of Varvara! And I'm a little curious to see if the small artifact the sailor got from his friend (a depiction of Dagon) has any greater significance or was just a little cameo.
>>76843...you mean that one with Beasts of Burden?
Cover for #3 of upcoming Hell on Earth series...
..and #4! This is gonna be awesome.SO AWESOME.
>>79851Oh fuck yes.OH FUCK YES
This issue was amazing. I'll miss Fegredo so, so much.
>>79851FUCKYESSSSSSSSS
Baltimore and Hellboy: The Storm came out att he same time...I full-joy'd.
I reread Lobster Johnson today, and one of the Lobster's friends mentioned this trashy magazine he read, that said the Atlanteans used their technology to go to space. So maybe the aliens in Conqueror Worm were Atlanteans and that block they gave Hellboy was some sort of vril? It was more green than the suit's blue rays/fire, but kinda close in effect I thought. Plus, if it was real vril, the colors would've probably been different than synthesized vril. Plus, wasn't vril used to create? I imagine that may be why the worm, a force of destruction, would hate it so.That magazine was probably just the 30s version of weekly world news, though. But still, nothing seems to be a throw-away comment the more you read it, don't you find? Even though it's a bit of a reach I just wanted to share my little conspiracy theory.
>>80693..wow, I never would have caught that myself. That makes a lot of sense, actually. Still wondering a little if the similarities between "future Abe" or whatever was in the pic Liz found and these aliens are a coincidence or not!
...lots of titles, there...This was a great issue. So ominous. A little sad that Devon is becoming somewhat of a douche...
>>80796D'aaaaaaaw
>>82407Can hardly blame him though. Also, YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH
The Storm.Oh fuck.
>>88917Oh my god, I teared up... it won't turn out how HB said it would, but if it did, that would be so nice.Don't read this spoiler page until you're finished reading the comic.
Alright, I just finished it. I cannot comment on it right now, except...FUCK.
FINALLY! They're tying in the Ogdru-Jahad and all that stuff from the beginning today, I am so down for The Fury!
>>89247I was getting so confused by the idea of two different apocalypses happening at once... I always felt like it might end up this way. But it still blew my mind. And the page with all of the previous "servants"... wow.I guess this explains why there were some frog people (I think) among her army.Also: Gruagach has my complete sympathy now. ;__;
RE: New World #2...Those two are the best of bros. I always felt they could be, it was hinted at occasionally, and now they are.
>>91252... I really hope you're talking about Abe and Daimio. Because they should be bros, like since Garden of Souls. Brb, dling.
Man, I loved Johann's body language in this. Kate, Panya and Johann's quibbling. And the return of the cigars! Can't wait for the next issue.
>>91415Cigars must be a symbol of male bonding in the Mignolaverse. Abe and Daimio have shared them on multiple occasions, and one can only assume he shared them with HB too. Since HB left, Abe hasn't really had anyone he could pal around with like him. I can't help but feel like Abe's replacing his lost "manly companionship" with Daimio, who really does fit the bill nicely. And I genuinely meant the above paragraph in a completely nonsexual way.
>>91565I - I hadn't interpreted it as such until you said that.
Chowder?
I wish I knew what was happening in this.
>>91572Oh, I did. Thanks for the smirk, >>91565
Bump for Mike Mignola's birthday.
>>92997Hmm. Maybe I'll rewatch that pilot of The Amazing Screw-On Head they did for the SciFi network.
>>92997
So the cover for the last issue of New World is up. And um.Oh god, he'd better not die just after being reintroduced..!
