ITT: your experiences with free food, awesome and not so awesome.

awesome: there's an orchard on my campus, i guess for the aggie students. nobody seems to care if you pick fruit from there. so, sometimes i'll pop over, take a few oranges, and make delicious orange juice using the free sugar packets from the caf, and fountain water. or just straight up eat the oranges, whateva.

not so awesome: tried to take extra creamer packets from a local donut shop, the cashier scolded me in broken engrish. she still let me take them, though. i love that donut shop.

awesome: i went to a Sikh Gurdwara and there was a bunch of delicious food there, i have no idea what alot of it was, and also they were serving chai. later, they served lunch and gave pretty good helpings, and ever water bottles and candy.

not so awesome: i had no idea what they were saying during the service and i had to wear a head covering and be the weird-o foreigner.

awesome: went to a party after midterms and there was lots of sweet foods, and at the end of it the host was saying, "please take the food i dont want any left over in my house". all of the attendees were calorie-watching fags who wouldnt take anything so i scooped as much as i could into my backback and later had a feast with my hobofriend.

not so awesome: i went to a mormon church thing and they gave me a little cube of bread and a shot of water. not tasty and now im a jesus-eater.

awesome: for a class presentation some chick brought a bunch of thai food, and there was alot leftover and nobody wanted it, and she was gonna throw it away if nobody took it. so i took it and again had a feast with my hobofriend.

not so awesome: i stayed at a hotel, so indirectly i kinda payed for the food, but they gave free breakfasts (it was chinese food). there was this rice gloop that i imagined might taste like horchata or something, so i got a bowl of it. tasted, and, in retrospect, looked like a goddamn bowl of jism.

awesome: i worked at a movie theater for about a year. easiest job known to man, and i got free popcorn and soda. not big on soda, but fresh, hot popcorn it is a dericious breakfast on cold days, and i worked morning shift.

not so awesome: i'm running out of material for this section. free food has usually worked out well for me.

No.2124
Awesome: Like most here, I stocked up on post-presentation leftovers. The kicker? it was two weeks worth of free cookies

Not so awesome: Food poisoning.

No.2128
awesome: the pizza place nearby gives you coupons if they screw up your pizza. someone gave me some of the coupons, and with them i ended up buying a pizza for cheap, and then getting about $50 worth of extra food with it. they even gave me a 4-pack of soda.

awesome: i found a really, really tasty peanut butter and jelly sandwich in the garbage once. my hobofriend and i split it.

awesome: i dunno why but some dude on campus was giving away free samples of this delicious thing, it was flaky crust wrapped around your choice of either spinach, chicken, or beef. all you had to do was sign a paper and leave a comment of what you thought of the food. i got a spinach one and wrote down "awesome".

not so awesome: i was supposed to be fasting that day i got the spinach thing. but, like my policy with other food restrictions, if it's free then i allow myself to take advantage of it. (example: i don't eat pork unless it's given to me for free)

All my free food experiences have been awesome. I even gathered kelp at the beach once - I'd had some dishes with kelp at them at a Jap restaurant the night before - and made some awesome things with it.

Another time I dumpster-dived at Trader Joes and got all sorts of awesome shit. I'm kind of a hobo like that, but hey - I don't believe in letting food go to waste.

Free food from the places I've worked has always been good. Subway: not technically allowed to take anything but everyone ate whatever they wanted. Espresso bar: free drinks however you want to make them - not allowed too many but it's espresso, you don't need a shitload. Also, free soda from both.

No.2194
Awesome: Free drinks when I worked at a local coffee shop

Not so awesome: Not sleeping for a month.

No.2208

awesome: jewish society had too much food after a social, friend calls us in for free bagels, smoked salmon+cream cheese, cake, drinks.
feels good man
not so awesome: try cheese sample, scolded for not using cocktail stick, wander away ashamed without buying cheese.

My life is rife with fun free food experiences. The animation students used to hang around the business wing when they were having socials to show off the students and wait for them to stop guarding their sandwich trays so we could sneak them back to the studio for our other animation brethren. The people in the studio who worked at the pizza place used to be able to get whole unsold, day-old pizzas for us, and since we were usually the only people left in the school when the Tim Hortons closed at like, 10PM, we'd get tons of free cookies and donuts and stuff all the time.

I can't think of any bad experiences with stuff like this, to be honest.

awesome: During exams one year in high school I went to the afternoon study group for the English exam the next day. The fire alarm went off near the beginning of it so my teacher took me and the other two students there out for lunch at the Wendy's across the street.

not so awesome: funeral sandwiches. they taste like cheap sadness.

No.2302
awesome: one of my friend's dad is a highpowered business man, hes like a named partner in a internationally recognized firm and they used to do lots of business with Japan. because my friends family lived in a big house, every summer/early fall, they would hold a huge business party, really professional affair with hired staff and everything. And because of the Japan angle and visiting Japanese businessmen they would have huge tubs of delicious sushi. After the party was over my friends family would usually take some of the leftover tubs literally full of sushi, which of course had to be eaten ASAP, so the day after it was just a feast of sushi and Japanese themed party appetizers. first time i got drunk was on the dozens of bottles of saki they had left over as well.

not so awesome: the Japanese company they worked with shorted them on a bunch of business deals and my friends dad's company pulled out, no more parties.
