For those wondering, I did catch up with DiDio at FanExpo, he remembered me and stopped to chat about the con, and how he loves Toronto, then I told him I was 17 last year when he hit on me, to which he responded "Ooooh boy. well... I'm just gonna go now".

I managed to stop him and tell him I'd be back next year with a portfolio.

I'm now known by name to Dan DiDio. yes I know nothing will probably come of it but it's a story

No.270925
Okay guys.
I have... a huge post incoming, bigger than my usual posts.

So.
I have this friend, let's call him Friend A. We've been friends for a few years now and he's a cool dude, he used to have a crush on me, but I have never shown interest in him whatsoever.
So, then there's Friend B. Friend B is a friend of Friend A. Friend B is an awesome person and I am just gonna say it straight out that I fancy him.
Now.
Friend B and I really hit it off at Friend A's party last Saturday, and we kissed at one point. I really... connected with this guy, and I wanted to get to know him more so I chatted a lot to him for the past few days and I invited him out too and everything.
Today, I was supposed to go on a date with him.

But Friend A decided to show up and SURPRISE visit Friend B. And so I couldn't go hang with Friend B. Then, a little later. Friend B logs on MSN and informs me that Friend A told him that he is not comfortable with Friend B and I hanging out too much. He doesn't want us to develop anything beyond a chatting-friendship.
And so because Friend B is a nice and respectable person he tells me we need to lay low and just wait for time to go.

BUT.
I am SUPER FUCKING UPSET NOW. Because Friend A just fucked me over. -HE- doesn't want me to hang out with Friend B because he still sorta crushes on me apparently, but... oh my god. That is so...selfish of him. He's trying to control a part of my life and I am NOT okay with this.
I am SO upset with this guy and he's supposed to throw his birthday party this Saturday, but I am deliberating now on NOT going out of fucking spite.

TL;DR
FRIEND SCREWED ME OVER, I MAD, WANT TO DITCH FRIEND FOR A BIT.

Firstly, let's clarify. Does Friend A know 100% that you're not interested? Or have you simply 'not shown interest'. You have to lay that shit on the line, or else he'll cling to the hope like a retard.
Secondly, he's a douche, but you're the one whining about it on the internet. Pull up your pants, stop hitting the keyboard, and tell Friend A that he has no control over Friend B or your lives and decisions. Compromise and tell him you promise that if anything comes of it you won't do anything in his presence or talk about it to him to make him uncomfortable. If he doesn't go with that, then you're mad at him already, tell him to go fuck himself.

And Friend B clearly likes Friend A enough to respect his wishes, so try to also respect Friend B if he still doesn't want to pursue.
Or he might be very, very nicely blowing you off using Friend A as a scapegoat.

To answer your questions, yes. We've discussed it and I have told him several times I have no interest.
I just found out about it, and while I REALLY want to confront him about it, it's his birthday this saturday and Friend B told me I should wait until after it, which I agree with, because...you don't want to fuck shit up for people on their birthday.

Friend B does want to pursue, but does not want to ruin something between me and Friend A, or himself and Friend A.
I can UNDERSTAND where he comes from, but it's still unacceptable and it really -hurt- me.

Mi-2 Hoplites are a dime a dozen. Honestly, the Ukraine is more than willing to sell it's aircraft to civilians for pennies on the dollar.

MiG-15's/17's will fetch between $40,000-$150. The higher end of that figure being true Russian made ones

MiG-21's will run anywhere between $20,000 to $90,000. The early MiG-21FM-13's are the lowest end, the MiG-21bis will be $50
,000 or so and the MiG-21UM trainer will be the high end.

MiG-23 Floggers of all variants are $60,000+, but you'd be hard pressed to find a single seater.

The most popular civilian owned jet warbirds are those Czech Aero Vodochodys I love so much. The L-29 and L-29R will run you anywhere between $30,000 and $60,000. I've honestly never seen one over 100k.

The most popular has to be the L-39C/ZO/ZA. They range in price from $110K up to well over $400K depending on the avionics within it. Their operating costs are very reasonable (Save for fuel consumption, that's still pretty steep) and most upper middle class Americans and Canadians can afford them.

That's just jets, Nanchang CJ-6A's and Yakovlev Yak-52's are really cheap to acquire; as low as $30,000 for the CJ-6A. Mind you, spending more money on the CJ would be advisable.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WtV0fffbUyo
This one here probably is worth close to $100k. It's got an upgraded engine; instead of the little 280HP Chinese put put, it's got a 360HP Russian M14P. But, with that money you get an airplane that has a really nice fuel burn (14 gallons per hour), long range, and can do pretty much anything when it comes to fun aerobatics. And that's just with the stock powerplant, as well.

And, another thing to keep in mind is that most aircraft loans can be paid back in terms similar to a house, 10 years and up, even.

Now, if you're REALLY fucking rich:
http://www.prideaircraft.com/flanker.htm
Oh yeah, if any of you live in small towns, they usually have local airshows at their municipal fields during the summer and early fall months. People just fly in their airplanes and show them off. You'll see lots of Texans and Nanchangs, but this is a chance for you. You see those assholes that always got nice cars from daddy? They never gave me any issues, but they always disgusted me with their arrogance. Taxing up next to them, as close as you can get so they can see their corvettes and skylines right next to your motherfucking Su-27UB Flanker-C.

Cont'd

The L-29's low acquisition costs stems from a lot of factors, none of which include "it's a bad aircraft." Couldn't be farther from the truth; they're great fun. The biggest factor is the L-39. When the Soviets got the L-39 in the 70's and 80's they just left their '29's to rot. Infact, a lot of American buyers in the 80's bought L-29's from the Czechs as they had no use for them anymore, save for the L-29R which was a cheap recon platform.

But, after the fall of the wall, everyone wanted the L-39, so once again, there's just no demand for the L-29. They're aren't too far off, performance wise from the L-39. They can even take off from grass strips, something I wouldn't dare try in an L-39. They also burn about 50 gallons less per hour. But, again, these are old aircraft. They were used to transition pilots into jets in preparation for service in MiG-21's and 23's. The MiG-29 demanded a much more technologically advanced trainer than the L-29, so there goes it's value. It's still used in service around African nations as a trainer, recon aircraft, and light attack platform, but it's got no value to large nations, that'd buy them en masse.

The biggest catch is that you require a type rating for them as a pilot. To attain it, you need 1000 hours of flight time over all, 500 of which with you as Pilot in command.

So, they aren't so much a rich boy's toy as they are a toy for professional pilots: People with lots of flight hours.

Semi Good, I'd say. They're very easy to fly. If it weren't for the engine spool up, I'd say they're well within the capabilities of the average PPL holder. Those Props I mentioned, however, I'm 99% positive all you need is a high performance and complex endorsement. You can get that right after you get your basic private license, and it takes maybe 3-5 hours of flight time. I'll have to go digging through my FAR/AIM book to be sure.

So guys, I need a little advice.

My best friend and I are completely stupid for each other. She's seriously my favorite person and she's the same about me. We kinda went through a short thing of making out and such a couple weeks ago. Afterwards, she stopped and told me that she's doesn't wanna jump into a relationship with me because she's afraid that like if we were to get into some fight, or, such, she'd have no one to turn to or that she'd lose me. This girl SERIOUSLY depends on me emotionally and such. We talked about it again tonight, her stating once again that her primary concern was losing me. She say she feels like she's cursed. Every one of her past relationships ended horribly. Her last one with a guy she was friends with previously. The one before that was abusive. She's never had a good relationship. So, she's afraid of some other non-existent shoe dropping if we were to declare ourselves in a relationship. I've told her countless times that she's never gonna lose me. Hell, I still talk to my ex-FIANCE and she cheated on me for the last 3 months of our relationship.

So, guys, any sage-like advice?

Actually I don't own any of these lovely warbirds, just yet. I could get one, and I'm thinking of getting a 29, but I'm stingey as shit. I really REALLY want to wait until I'm more financially secure. What I do own is a Cessna 207, that's my working bird. I just got rid of a Comanche, which was a bad idea to get in the first place. I never used it, so I got rid of it. I used to also own a Cessna 150. I get most of my aviation provided funds from instruction, so I usually instruct out of my Boss's 172. Most of what I know about the finances involved with these warbirds is acquired through me bumming around Airshows and talking to owners. I do have 30 hours in jets, however. Mostly in the L-39 and some in the 29. The hours I have acquired in warbirds consist of me flying with the owner and splitting the gas expenditure.

My biggest secrets are My car is total shit. It's '92. My house is also pretty run down, as well. Looks nice inside, but outside it's not so much. Still it's not bad for a house built in the 1920's as a hunting lodge.

Well, going to commit a faux pas and double post.

It's really hard to get someone to trust you in that sense, you know? If she's had that kind of bad luck, the best you can do is stress the idea that you're logical and reasonable. Stress it to her that there's very little she could do that would drive you away short of malice on her part. Let her know that you would approach any pothole in the road ahead with a level head and not be prone to overly-emotional reactions.

I've grown very untrustworthy of women, but you make it sound as if she is sincere and this isn't the typical "it's not you, it's me" bullshit. An abusive prior arrangement would bring about such doubts, I would imagine. There really isn't much you can do, save for hinting at the positive trait of having a cool head. At least in my experience, which may be lacking as I don't go out of my way to date.

You are going to have the most fun in the universe, I guarantee you that!

Three little things you should know:

Food and drink there is EXPENSIVE knockoffs of McDonald's and the like, so bring water bottles/head to the actual restaurants there (as I recall from years of practically living in the place, there's only two in the whole park compared to like three stands per themed "Land") instead of the designated food courts.

California Adventure is a nice detour, but not the main route you'll ever want to drive on. Enjoy the fuck out of Disneyland, go to Adventure only if you happen to already have a ticket.

Finally: don't try anything silly for the camera on the rides. Sometimes they're good about it, most of the time they're pricks.

It eats at your body's resources. Or rather, caffeine doesn't give you energy, it makes you use up any readily available source. It rarely ever burns up fat, but it'll sure as hell use up whatever else you've eaten recently. Thus, it HURTS on an empty stomach, doesn't matter if it's coffee, chocolate, or a caffeine pill, the effects are the same.

Also for some people (like me!), too much caffeine will have the opposite effect and make you kind of sleepy.

It's not like this is the first irrational wording we've picked up; just look at "inflammable" and "flammable."

Or consider "nothwithstanding," which is generally used to mean "despite." However, "withstanding" itself can mean "to be proof against," so if you take the phrase "notwithstanding their inexperience, they were an immediate success," you could interpret that using the common definition as "despite their inexperience" or analytically (and clumsily) factoring in the 'not' to get "not proof against the effects of their inexperience." The two interpretations are contradictory.

The fact is misusing words are indicative of poor education, poor writing, or poor speaking ability. We should lament the fact that these mutations and misconceptions of words are used by so many; it is a symptom of the sorry state of our educational system. The language you use is reflects on how others see you. If you want to be taken seriously, you do not use terms like "irregardless" "inflammable" and "LOL." We should all strive practice the correct use of language so that our thoughts and ideas are taken seriously on their merit.

Not to mention it would piss me off if proper English was replaced with "lol u tk him 2da bar|?" simply because a large number of idiots can't be bothered to type their thoughts out properly.

I hate that shit so much, I have to go on a mini-rant.

I honestly hate how in Western Society it seems that the white person is the eternal villain. It honestly pisses me off, keep in mind this is coming from someone who isn't white.

I'm a fucking spic. A border hopper. A wetback. I can cram my 5 cousins into a regular cab pick up and build decks. I'll be brutally honest: Race means jack shit to me. It's just an indication of the climate your ancestors came from. I think deriving pride from race is silly and the sign of an insecurity. And don't pull that bullshit about "Well I have a right to be proud of my family!" I'm adopted, family goes much deeper than the petty color tone of your skin.

I can call anyone white person a Nigger hating piece of trailer trash shit that fucks his sister, a honkey, whitey, snowball, etc. etc. and so many will just sort of nod their heads in agreement and think "YUP WE DID EVIL SHIT, WE DESERVE THIS"

Yeah, evil shit, a century or more ago. But the moment someone makes a harmless joke about me knowing the shallow parts of the Rio Grande, they're suddenly the most evil thing on the planet: A RACIST!

Oh no, not that. It really does irk me. Yeah, white people did evil shit, but I'm thinking the white people that live today are not necessarily of the same ilk that purchased and traded slaves, treated women as property as per the culture of the time, and other taboos in today's society.

This whole idea that just because one party is harder to come by (Such as sexist women.) it makes their views ok (or rather less abhorrent) because they happen to be in the cross hairs of the opposite point of view (the male sexists) which also happens to be a larger demographic really makes me scratch my head.

No.271319
>>271318
Whoa man, calm down. What I was talking about didn't have much to do with what you're talking about. I don't think that people who accuse women of reverse sexism think that it's better than "regular" sexism. It's just confusion over the meanings of words. The only connecting factor between our complaints is that the situations are created by a centuries-old concept of the status quo.

If it means anything, I'm willing to bet that there are KKK-style folks out there who also use the term reverse racism because they think it's somehow different from the honest, home-grown racism that they cherish.

Micheal Moore has a tendency to skew reality in his films to fit whatever point he is making, use editing tricks to hide certain facts and stimulate emotional reaction, thats why his films are films and not documentaries.

But

I finally watched Sicko, and I has a sad. Canada has it's fair share of stupid, but at least we have health care. My entire three day adventure in the ER ended up costing me NOTHING by the way. My best friend went to the ER with similar problems a few years ago and winded up having to threaten suing the hospital (they gave her penicillin and didn't realize she was allergic until a week later) in order to avoid a several thousand dollar bill. When she was living in Canada with immigrant status she was thrilled to be able to go to her first doctor's appointment in years because she got OHIP coverage. Suddenly reconsidering getting american citizenship.

I still don't like France, Moore, nice try though.

My mother got a tumor removed. That would've cost 40K. It cost her 4.5K due to insurance. They then retroactively added on 1,500 dollars to her bill the next year and claimed they changed her insurance policy on her, which would suddenly not cover the cost of the surgery. She's still fighting it, since they seem intent on making her pay more. Wonder if they'll add more.

That time I hurt so bad in the GI tract I thought I was dieing, went to get an x-ray. Had no insurance since I was 17 at the time, and mum had been fired from her job. I wasn't covered. It cost around 1,500 dollars or something ridiculous like that. Not only that, but.. uh. Well. The nozzle to put the barium in. They skimped on the lube. Really, the reason was "lube is expensive."

There is no better metaphor for the current state of healthcare. An enema of rare earth that costs you a grand and they're too cheap to lubricate. There's not even any recourse, since most folks they do this shit to can't even afford the prolonged legal crap, financially in the liquid sense or time invested. :(

What really bothers me is just how quick some people are to label others as being racist or sexist or bigoted for the most trivial reasons.

It's like, some places you go to if you so much as disagree with someone about something you're automatically slapped with the "Bigot" label.

Racism and Bigotry suck major ass but some people take things a bit too far in the other direction

I mean, on another forum I used to frequent I got labelled as some sort of ignorant white privileged asshole for arguing that Song of the South should be available to the public if for no other reason than educational purposes; Their argument being what if some young African American has to see it, mine being that if a young African American WANTS to see it for some reason he should be able to.

It bothers me to. It REALLY rubs me the wrong way when these people want their to be legislation against it. As if censorship makes a vile idea like racism go away. I'll gladly suffer the minute discomfort of a racist dickhead for the preservation of free speech. It's my opinion that society is mature enough to decide for itself what are bad social ideas. Racism is one of them. I think we, as Americans, Canadians, British, French, what have possess the ability to decided that Racism is a bad idea in regards to policy making. However, to infringe upon the bigots' rights is not only giving the government to silence dissidence on the grounds of it being "Offensive" but also hypocrisy of the highest order.

When you get down to it, we're all a little bit racist. There's no use in denying it. We all laughed at Trey Parker's and Matt Stone's stereotype of the Arab Extremist as a nonsense spouting psycho.

What do you call a Mexican without a lawnmower? Unemployed. Even I laughed at that one.

Ok, so there's a family of ducks and a family of skunks that are wiped out by hunters save for two babies. They get together and watch out for each other. One day, the baby duck starts crying. "What's wrong?" asks the skunk. "My family died before they could tell me what I was!" "Well, you got webbed feet, you quack, and you waddle, so you must be a duck!" At that point, the Skunk started crying as well and the duck asks "What's wrong?" "Oh, my family died before they could tell me what I was, too!" The duck pondered for a second and then said "Well, you're not quite black, but you're not quite white... and you smell like shit, so you must be a Mexican!"

It's funny. A little humor never hurt anyone. Sure, it ought to offend some, but they don't have to hear it. They can ignore my post, they can change the channel or the radio, or they can hit browser back.

We all laugh at these jokes, so aren't we just as guilty as the person telling said joke? Even when you declare "Oh that is not a good joke you should be ashamed!" if you so much as felt a chuckle well up inside you, you're just as guilty.

The only thing I find to be truly offensive is the ability of some to be easily offended.

That said, there aren't many good white people jokes. I think we minorities need to quit slacking off and guilt whitey into making up some good ones.

Most people rightly find irrational, baseless, and indiscriminate hatred or mistreatment of individuals simply because they are of a certain race, sex, religion, sexual orientation etc., to be abhorrent and, while not illegal, insufferable within polite society. People also rightly view someone who hates each and every black person simply because that person is black as irrational, hateful, anti-social, and possibly even insane. But the problem lies in using the label of "racist" (sexist, homophobic, islamophobic, anti-Semite, etc.) to discredit a person/movement by making the average person think of them as bigotted, and therefor immoral, irrational, and vile. This allows whoever is playing the race (sex, etc.) card to end a debate without having to address the actual issues. "You want us to enforce the border and the immigration laws on the books? You're a racist!", etc.

The point of government health care is not to take away private insurance, it's to give insurance to people who otherwise have no means of obtaining it. Just in terms of cancer survivability, since you brought it up, federal insurance is worse than private insurance, but either of them is better than no insurance at all. Cancer is a death sentence if you don't have even bad insurance.

Also, it's wrong to say that America has the highest cancer survival rates. We're tied with Canada, parts of Europe (France in particular), and Japan, all of which have state healthcare systems. The statistic you're referencing was probably made from older datasets; if you can get access to it, take a look at this newer study that uses more accurate analysis methods.

Cancer survival in five continents: a worldwide population-based study (CONCORD), The Lancet Oncology, Volume 9, Issue 8, August 2008, Pages 730-756

Again, the point of the health system in the works is to give health care to the people who can't afford it, not to take away what you already have. Again, if you look at cancer, survival rates drop about fifteen percent (anywhere from 2-25 depending on location in question) for black populations, who historically are on the worse end of a large wealth discrepancy.

You know, TF2 is a catchy game. It's little quirks just rub off on you.

I was at another airport today, visiting a friend. He's building an EZ Long kit plane in his hangar and I was curious to his progress.

I glanced over my shoulder at the Taxi way and saw someone in a little Cessna 150/152 committing one of my carnal sins: Taxing way too fucking fast. So, I think "Asshole" out of the corner of my eye I see a rather large TBM-3 Avenger rolling up out of a hangar row, wings still folded. First thing that popped into my mind:

RUN, COWARD! I AM COMING FOR YOU! YOU ARE SO SMALL. IT'S FUNNY TO ME

Collection of thoughts;

My brother is going back to school on tuesday so I'll have to go back to using my old clunker. Boo I should get my brother to replace the motherboard before he moves out.

I can't believe I'm going to be responsible for a kitten, a puppy, a job and an entire house by myself in a few weeks fffffffffff. Also apparently my Dad has OCD so I have to keep everything perfectly neat and clean with both pets around.

I am sick of my friends reacting to my being a virgin. "It's no big deal" "just get it over with" "get drunk at a party and jump someone already". How about "NO". I'm only 18, if I say I'm not ready, I'm not ready, deal with it. Just because I look decent doesn't mean I don't have trouble with intimacy. Thats not how it works. I have a lot of issues to sort out before I even THINK about having a healthy relationship and the last thing I need right now is making myself feel like crap over not treating myself right, not treating my partner right all to "just get it over with". I'll get a boyfriend when *I* feel like it, I'll lose my V card when *I* feel like it, it's my choice. Step off.

I wanted to participate in 24H Comic Day but it's the same day as Nuit Blanche. SO HARD TO CHOOSE; stay up all night making art or stay up all night looking at art.

I am wearing my hot pink Joan Halloway style pencil skirt today for no reason. Kind of to break it in since I haven't figured out proper outfit for it yet. It kind of hurts my ribs to wear it so I might have to give it away. I love fashion and dressing up, but comfort comes first.

Yesterday I went to a party with my brother at his friend's house (his friend invited me too since we got along well at my Bro's party a couple weeks ago) and had a pretty great time, and ate too much. Before the party I kept trying on different clothes (still not used to my new wardrobe and many of my old outfits don't fit anymore sob sob) that kept being rejected by my brother for being "too sexy", sexy meaning wearing anything shorter than the knee, I was amused at how worried he was about his friends hitting on me. Thats just how I dress, Bro. I haven't been a t-shirt and pants kind of gal in years.
