No.268124
It's extremely rare to witness a psychopath quietly inflicting cruelty, thinking that he/she cannot be seen. This video is both fascinating and disturbing. She chooses the cat because it's trusting and unable to defend itself. This individual has very likely harmed animals before, and given half a chance, would relish the chance to inflict pain on another person.

”I came down to feed Lola on Sunday morning but couldn’t find her anywhere. It was really a hot day and I went outside and I searched nearby alleyways but suddenly heard a tiny meowing coming from the bin. I looked inside and I found her in the bin, she was terrified and covered in her own mess. At first I thought she’d somehow climbed inside the bin herself but when I checked the CCTV I was gobsmacked to see some woman had done in deliberately.”

Not that I'm one to get my undies in a bunch about cats, but working a 15 hour shift is significantly different from being locked in a garbage can for 15 hours, especially for a cat. It's not like they put prisoners in solitary to annoy them, and even they get food and air circulation.

I dunno, whole thing reminds me of this time my brother and I dug a hole in the side yard because we were kids and kids like to dig holes, then in the time it took us to wander off for a while and come back a vole had fallen into the hole and starved to death. I didn't really feel guilty or anything because I can't have too much sympathy for an animal that just walked along into a big obvious hole and died, but it certainly made me appreciate that a few hours doesn't mean the same thing to a human that it does to an animal.

Essential, I was in a box all day, I had no food (for financial reasons, but still), and I didn't get to leave for more than about forty five minutes a day. It was over 100 degrees outside, so I was trapped in a sweatbox with no ventilation, and the only light I got was this blinding thing in one corner of the trailer that would burn my eyes when I looked at it due to the darkness of the trailers. To make matters all the more humane, if I left my trailer to get a drink, I would fall behind and get written up. All the while lifting and stacking furniture, among other things. 13 hours regularly, but up to 16 during the holidays.

So it WAS illegal work. The fact that you did it more than once means you either live in one of the shittier countries where slave factories are your only option (you can afford a computer and internet, good job!) or you're a dumbass for doing it longer than one day and completely deserve that abuse.
I've worked some horrible jobs and done some horrible things to get money, but I still had the goddamn decency to know if a job was going to kill me, and get the fuck out of dodge. BEGGING has more dignity than admitting you let yourself be abused that way for a few paltry dollars. Hell, join the fucking army if you want that kind of abuse, at least it pays better.

The minute a job says 'hey, don't you dare get a drink in this hot weather', you flip them off and head to the BBB. Because nothing beyond 'everyone in my family is dying of AIDs and I need to get money' is worth that shit.

And don't you EVER compare what Coela and I do to 'sitting around and doodling all day and that doesn't compare to work.' I've already destroyed my back with this job and I'm not even 25 yet, and Coela puts in hours that are both admirable and insane. It's sure as fuck easier than what you went though, sure, but it's it no way that easy or simple, you fucking fuck. Don't think that because you purposely put yourself through an abusive job that you're better than the rest of us. If anything, you're lesser.

It was legal work, in New Hampshire, and the pay was enough to make me come back to it. They never explicitly said "don't drink", we were just never really given the opportunity to, because our production numbers were closely regulated. Too slow, or not enough work, and you get written up, it was a matter of necessity for the job versus the shittiness of dehydrating yourself for a few hours. New Hampshire doesn't have any break laws, they're required to give us a 30 minute break, which they did, and that was about it, they gave us two 15 minute breaks, which we could rarely afford to take (of course we'd be damned either way because you could get written up for skipping breaks, or get written up for not making production) because we were always understaffed, overworked and behind schedule.

And, I'm sorry, but drawing is not work in my opinion. It's drawing. Not to downplay what you do, but what I consider work is manual labor. But, what can I say? I'm from a blue-collar family. As for injuring your back, you should consider ergonomics. If I could go this far in life with no long-term injuries (a little tendonitis here and there, maybe), you should be able to as well.

>>268805

Work =/= manual labour.
I'm sorry, but the blue-collar mentality of such is a ridiculous notion fostered by the fact that many such families are unable to leave that workforce. The idea that the miners are better, harder, morally superior than the foreman because they're the ones who put in the physical labour while he pushes the paper, when in reality that foreman might be putting in even more hours bent over his desk.

Not to undermine or belittle the blue-collar workforce, which makes up the most of my family by the way so don't think i'm talking out my ass here, but anything that's a job is work. Whether you break a sweat or not, if it requires any physical or mental effort, it's work. So unless you've actually worked the horrible deadline-fueld industry of animation and found it so easy that you can claim that it's personally not work for yourself, don't fucking belittle it. Or any job you might perceive to be easy.
That's the same bullshit mentality that believes the efforts of housewives doesn't count as a job.

Most of my cousins are miners and loggers. My family's from a town far up north that's dying thanks to the economy. I'm fully aware of the shit situations some people have to resort to, and how hard times can be. But even still, no one in my family would succumb to conditions like that. It's ludacris.

I'm not going to deny that my job (and specifically mine, as I do different work from actual animation) is easy compared to that of a furniture mover in an abusive field. It is comparatively easy. COMPARATIVELY
But a job that keeps me 11-12 hours bent over a computer 6-7 days a week and keeps me away from my home, my hobbies and my friends and leaves me in chronic pain? Don't dismiss it.

I love my roommates, but one of them does "research" on campus "like me". He goes to lab about three times a week for about 2-3 hours at a time. He surfs every other day in the middle of the day and comes home to play Halo 3 or Muy Thai out at his gym. He's taking classes during the school year, but really now, grad courses =/= undergrad weeder courses. He's asked me to solve a homework problem for him once that he couldn't figure out for days (while he was busy waxing his surfboard and reading digg articles). Using some differential equations, I figured it out in ~45 minutes. Apparently, he had to present the solution to class the next day. I wasn't looking for any credit or anything, but going in front of the class presenting my work still feels kinda irksome. He was a chemical engineering undergrad, and if I end up knowing chemistry better than he does by the time we're done...

I like the guy. He's otherwise good people, but coming home to him toked up playing on my XBox is enough to make me upset.

Unless he tightens up, I don't think he'll finish with a PhD. If he does, it cheapens the whole damn experience.

Also, Toxie, I love you, but if I'm not working because I'm not doing manual labor, I'm sure as hell not in kindergarten learning how to count apples. This shit is demoralizing (too).

I think this whole "your job isn't hard enough" tangent is pretty irrelevant, but that may just be because I'm having trouble following the same line of reasoning as our pal Surf there when he decided that if you aren't working a manual labour job at this very moment, you aren't allowed to say putting a cat in a trash bin isn't good for the cat.

Unless your job is "Getting shanghaied out of the blue while walking down the street and locked in a storage crate for an unforeseen period of time" it doesn't really compare to being a cat chucked in a trash bin. I'm going under the assumption that wasn't your job, but if it was I am eager to continue this discussion. I am terribly curious what the market for that skillset is like in our current economy.

>I don't know what the big deal is with getting raped, I've had sex and I'm fine.

The difference here is that you consented to work those conditions. You applied for the job, showed up to it, worked it, went home and then went back. The conditions were shitty, but you knowingly worked them. It's a little different than getting thrown in a box. If you were grabbed off the street and sold to slavery, you'd have a right to compare them.
Also, cats aren't as smart as you. Even if you were sold to slavery, you'd at least know what's going on. The cat was stuck there confused and scared without food or water and in it's own mess. Your job had toilets and you said that you didn't get a lot of water, but it was partially your choice, and that you did get at least 30min break.

So your job was tough. Good for you, man, really, I wouldn't be able to do that shit. Doesn't make you qualified to laugh at the conditions the poor animal suffered through. It makes you a bit of a sociopath.

And for the record, I thought the video was hilarious. Just picking up the cat and binning it was fucking funny. I'm cool with you laughing at the vid. It's funny and you could've just left it at that, you didn't have to justify anything. But then you tried to justify it by saying you had it tougher than an animal that's stupider than a toddler, so it doesn't count as cruelty. That shit's not cool.
