In lieu of all the movie's racefail wank, I thought I'd bring up something I haven't seen anyone else discussing. As anyone who is familiar with my Avatar fanart probably knows, I'm pretty big on the Dangerous Ladies. When it was announced that Zuko was going to be Indian, my first though was "Oh man. Indian!Azula." And most of the Fire Nation will be, too. For some reason, the thought of the Dangerous Ladies being Indian pleases me- I love their original designs, of course, but I'm also a big fan of Indian women's fashion and design. It's possibly the only thing I'm looking forward to with the movie trilogy. Not to mention that the addition of three badass ladies of color might make up for losing Katara. (As far as I'm concerned, she's not in the movie.) Thoughts?
>>77371Azula in the show is canon 14 years old, even though she doesn't seem anything like any 14-year-olds in the real world I know of. Of course, film!Sokka is way older than show!Sokka, but I'm glad that at the very least Azula's casting is trying to work within the actual age range rather than doing what Hollywood always does (e.g. every "high school" film being made up of 20-somethings).
>>77371Worrying as the prospect is that an actor portraying an object of lust for you might be underage, it *does* say "Young Princess Azula" it could be a flashback.
>>77374Azula WAS cheering her dad on in the Agni Kai flashback.Could be that.
>>77377>>77374I'm hoping this is the case... True enough, this flashback was the only extent to which we saw Azula in the First Book. And the production time between the first two films would give the actress time to age. *phew*
>>77371>(coming from Indian heritage) I always imagine someone like Ray Sighn posting that.Sadly enough, it's never the case.
>>77373Actually, Azula was one of the characters I was hoping they'd cast a little older. Not Jackson Rathbone older, but like 16-18ish. As one of the principle villains, she really needs to look and feel dangerous. Having her cast slightly older than the heroes would help accomplish that. They even did that in the show. The Gaang was all voiced by kids and teens, while Zuko and the Dangerous Ladies were all voiced by adults. Also, Yamino, I love these designs. An Indian Fire Nation would actually be pretty cool. It wouldn't be accurate, but it would still fit in with the general world building of the original show.If they made it so that basically Air = Tibet, Water = Inuit/Sub-arctic people, Fire = India/South Asia, and Earth = China/East Asia, I don't think the fandom would have too much of a problem with it outside of some initial bitching.
>>77382I agree whole-heartedly. I can't see a 15 year old girl, Indian nonetheless, as menacing, manipulative, or generally evil. Bitchy maybe, but not evil...
>I can't take a young girl dramatically seriouslyHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaw oh wait you're serious
>>77386>Indian nonethelessAre Indian girls eviller than average?
>Indian>Fire
>>77392/r/ Iroh doing Yoga Flame using Breath of Fire
>>77392That guy was a bitch to fight against.
I've been doing some research (eg. watching bollywood movie clips on Youtube) and I'm thinking of redesigning the Dangerous Desi, particularly Mai. I like her design, but it doesn't look Indian at all. I was also thinking of making her more South East Asian, perhaps Filipina or Indonesian.P.S. Here is a pretty Bollywood movie with 200 Indian!Ty Lee clones dancing backup. As I watched it, I thought the theme of the song was something that would make sense in a Fire Nation culture- she's singing about her love like a burning candle threatened to be put out by rain.(Posting link because it's giving me embed errors)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=im2cCFzL8zE
>>77419...That's actually pretty, pretty good. But I think your style suits the series' visual flair just fine.
>>77419 Hey, Ty Lee's identical sisters found something to do!>>77183 Is it wrong for me to imagine her saying this in a Desi accent?
>>77538>Is it wrong for me to imagine her saying this in a Desi accent? Not wrong, but it's certainly adorable.
Giant watermark is giant... http://agent-ayu.deviantart.com/art/TyZula-Alternate-Culture-164873468Did you guys know that Indian/alternate culture is the prompt this month for the Tyzula group on DA? =) You can blame me for that. xDhttp://ty-zula.deviantart.com/
>>77419Holey carp! I thought I recognized this song... My friends made me watch this movie a few years ago. I was resistant but it turned out to be pretty fun. More on topic, now there needs to be large dance numbers like that one in the book 2 movie. I'm not sure where to fit them, but it must be done...
>>77613...Huh. I didn't know Bollywood was so widespread.
>>77613They can give Azula a classic Disney-style villain song, but with a Bollywood twist!
>>77613 I have ideas for how they could translate the Beach episode to an Indian setting.I see Indian!Ty Lee as being more of a dancer/entertainer than a contortionist, but I imagine she'd still be acrobatic. Just more in a dancer kind of way.
Ok, I have to ask, because my curiosity is killing me, and even if I *wanted* to pay to see this movie (which I don't) it's not even out here in Belgium yet....Is movie Azula anything like my design? O_O
>>80740Yours is better.
>>80740Okay, don't quote me on any of this. They showed her very briefly, and I don't know how well I'm remembering.Similarly to the first season of the show, they didn't show a lot of her in the movie. When they did show her in a brief scene at the end, half of it was a shot of her from behind, and the other half was a face shot, so we really didn't see a lot of her clothing. She seemed to have kind of like a black sheer veil on, though. As for her ACTUAL appearance? Yes, very much so. The actress looked a lot darker than she did in the photos that surfaced of her here -- like her skintone wasn't as pale, it was closer to how you've been coloring her. Her hair was down, and kind of messy from what I remember, and she had the red lips she had in the series. But otherwise I actually thought she looked very similar to your art. You called it!
>>80744Woah, hang about. You can't say that the hair was different, the clothes were different, the make up was different, then go on to say it looks just like a design you just listed all the major differences for.
>>80745Sure I can. What tiny bit of her outfit that showed was a little different, sure. But her face (features, I mean), coloring, and actual physical appearance were the same as Yamino's design. If that makes sense at all, I'm probably just not being very clear.
>>80746Also, keep in mind that what she wears in that scene might just be some formal garb, and she'll wear something different when she actually gets out and does stuff in the second movie. (If it even gets made, but that's an off topic debate for another thread.) So there's a high chance she could still fully resemble Yamino's design, later.
Here you go. Hijacked from someone over on LJ.
And this.
>>81460LOL.
>>81460>horrible zooming shot
>>81461Shite. They could've at least been more subtle with the joy, there. Also, somebody demote the director of photography. A mid-close up is fine to show both Iroh and Azula in that scene. Similar to how it was shot in the programme.
I don't see what pimping your fanart has to do with the movie."As anyone who is familiar with my Avatar fanart-"LOL
>>81577Apparently, when you can draw well and draw yuri, the attention seeking behavior is forgiven.
>>81577>>81583Apparently, posting and/or directing people to your Avatar fanart on an Avatar imageboard is somehow viewed as bad.
>>81577The Fire Nation in the movie is Indian, so Yamino drew Indian Azula and friends....That's explained in the OP, kinda seems like you're just being an ass.Of course, you might also be trollin', I dunno, my troll-sense vanishes when I'm tired.
>>81577>>81583u mad?
speaking of racebendingi found this picture of a ginger azula
>>81577lol u madattentionwhoring aside in this thread, the art is decent, therefore okay.
I wouldn't be surprised if Mai or Ty Lee get removed from a sequel. Especially Ty Lee as she isn't dark and edgy enough, in Shyamalan's "vision" of what Avatar should be. I imagine his Azula would just be reprising Zhao's failure and she wouldn't have lighting bending unless there's a storm, so she has a source to bend.
>>81663
>>81663>>Azula can't lightning bend unless there's a storm.>>That means the final fight of Book 2 can't happen in the Zutara cave. There might not even be a cave.I have mixed feelings about this.
>>81663Ty Lee and Mai will be there just to give some exposition.
>>81663Sorry, but... Isn't she like a complete firebending prodigy/master in a way? And can't the master firebenders in the Shyamaverse generate their own fire? And shouldn't it be the same case with Azula?I don't know myself. Just checking with you guys.
>>81694She's also a woman, and if Shamwow's treatment of Katara and the Kyoshi warriors is anything to go by, she'll either be utterly useless, or completely cut from the movie.
>>81694 Or gave her Roy's glovs.
>>81694>>can't the master firebenders in the Shyamaverse generate their own fire? They can, but it isn't very useful.
>>81700Yes.
Strange idea. Don't really want.IMO they look better asian. It matches more with canon, and it means we won't have to do the whole racebending shit again.
