I watched most of the series all at once so I feel I got a pretty good sense of how the Gaang acts towards eachother continuity-wise. The way I read it, Katara and Aang had (obvious) crushes on eachother from the very first episode. I mean, it's not hidden. It's STATED several times, throughout all three seasons. Due to this, I always found it weird that a)Zutarians exist at all (I never once considered the pairing while watching the show, it just honestly never even OCCURED to me until I went online, andb)It was kind of weird that Katara rebuffs Aang in EIP

Why are we even debating this? This is the Kataang thread, not the ship-wank-debate thread. Katara loves Aang, Aang loves Katara, they live happily ever after, the end. Was it somewhat predictable? Yes, to those of us watching the show without blindfolds, but who cares? Does that mean it isn't cute, or that it's just a dumb cliched romance? No. Does that mean their relationship is going to be 100% perfect and without complications or arguments? No. Did the creators toy around with the shippers and make them wait until the last minute? You bet. It's also important to note that Katara is the one who came out and kissed Aang in the finale instead of the other way around. This was her way of showing him that she feels the same way. It was also her suggestion to kiss in The Cave of Two Lovers, whether you believe they actually kissed or not. And they're 12/13 and 14/15 by the time the war ends, they might kiss and hold hands, but it doesn't mean they're going to be snogging face and saying cheesy love-lines to each other like Zuko and Mai. Give them a few years. There has never been a single other cartoon that has had two characters genuinely be in love with each other. Every other cartoon has them just be friends, then hook them up at the end, without ever showing the companionship the two character share.
