I'll buy this pretty much the moment it's out.
IT'S LIKE THEY'RE FINALLY LISTENING TO US OMG!/capslockI'm buying this. I'm buying this and convincing my friends to do so as well or possibly getting it for them if I'm feeling really, really generous and not broke. I never thought I'd see more quality Avatar series merchandise now that they're getting ready to whore out the movie. If Nick's trying to apologize for that in some small way, this is a good start.
Looks awesome.
>34.99AHAHAHAHAHAHAAHHHAAHahhh...no seriously, AHHAHAHAHAHA
>>72797>Publisher: Dark Horse (May 26, 2010)Here's hoping they release the comics into a nice collection, including the one's that's currently being published into the German Nick Magazine.
Jesus...*AMAZON ALART ACTIVATE*That's made my evening.
>>72823Full color pages aren't cheap, mate.
I blew 100 bucks on an out of print artbook from Bubblegum Crisis, 50 bucks on an artbook for Metal Gear Solid, 45 on a book for Ghost in the Shell...this is *cheap* compared to what I'm willing to pay for these.
Sweet, i'll end up ordering this and the Ace Attorney art book so I get "SUPER SAVER SHIPPING"
>>72823 It's an Avatar ARTBOOK. It's worth it, man. I think I paid more for my Blue Spirit action figure than this, but I also got it for a LOT cheaper than they're usually selling them for, usually hundred(s). Which is crazy, of course, but rare items fetch premium prices. I know this firsthand as a collector of rare merchandise. And you're supporting the Avatar franchise, which may be in danger of dying. If this sells well enough, maybe we'll finally get a soundtrack.
ADDED TO EASTER LIST LIKE WOAH.
I'm buying it. I have waited for years to see this happening.
It's ready... ;3
>>72898For preorder, I should add.
Fook yeah!
Quick bump. For those who have pre-ordered this already, contact Amazon or redo the order, it's going for an even lower price of $14.99, instead of the previous 23 dollars or so.http://www.amazon.com/Avatar-Last-Airbender-Art-Animated/dp/1595825045/ref=ntt_at_ep_dpt_1Good news for my wallet, but I hope that this isn't because it's not pre-ordering well and they're reducing the price to help it sell better.
>>75142It went back up to $23.37, so I think that have been an accident.
>>75148Well, then I've gone and robbed them of nine dollars, if that's the case.Well, at least we know it's not because of some lack of sales.
>>75150Great going, Sharkman, un-supporting the show by nine dollars.
>>75151Since it's probably Amazon's mistake, wouldn't they have to swallow the difference?
Apparently they had some sort of error today and a lot of stuff was marked way down. I'm willing to bet that Amazon will send a polite email informing you, the preorder-er, that the price was a mistake and must be marked up again.
>>75142that's why I haven't preordered yet.
So...any of you guys pick this up? I saw it in my LCS last week, but I've been waiting to get this from amazon when the Almanac 2 comes out.
Mine shipped already, I have no choice but to wait. Amazon says it, and a few other books, will arrive next week or so for me.
It arrived... at my mom's house which is the default shipping address on my Amazon account that I forgot to change. So I have to wait until she ships it out to me. D:
>>77855>when the Almanac 2 comes out.Whaaaaat? details?
Oh yeah. I should buy this.
>>77870http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/1600106838/ref=s9_simvh_gw_p14_i1?pf_rd_m=A3DWYIK6Y9EEQB&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=1EC9NSR3V5SJG8FB74FY&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=463383511&pf_rd_i=915398Going to have info about what would have happened in season 4. I cant wait!
Mine arrived today. It's pretty great. Nice and large, hardcover, real collector's item. There are 5 chapters--Early Development, one for each of the three seasons, and a final chapter for ancillary art like the SD shorts and promotional images. In the opening chapter each of the primary characters that were there from the beginning get two pages or so of information about how they developed both in terms of their designs and in terms of their personalities. They also get some more pictures in episodes where they had different looks, like different outfits or what have you. Other characters get similar, smaller spreads in the pages for the episode they first appeared in--even minor fan favorites like the Cabbage Merchant. The first chapter's also got stuff about the pilot and stuff about how it all got started, stuff about the martial arts choreography and even a shout out to the Korean animators. Each of the three season chapters go through the episodes in order, showing designs of creatures, scenery, or characters from that episode. Double episodes share their space. The number of pages per episode depends on the amount of stuff to share about that episode, so episodes that introduce recurring characters or interesting props get several pages while other episodes only get one or two pages of backgrounds or storyboards.Chapter 5's got info and development sketches (as well as final art) for things like Comic-Con images, press art, the DVD covers, the SD shorts, and even random doodles the staff did for the lulz. Anyone still on the fence about getting the artbook can just go ahead and get off the fence. It's huge, it's chock full of both art and information and it's something pretty much anyone who's a big enough fan of the series to post on a board dedicated to it would love.
>>77885Thanks, this is exactly what I was hoping someone would post. It sounds fantastic.
>>77885purchasing at the speed of light
Just ordered, and thanks to signing up for a trial of that Amazon Prime thing, I got really cheap one-day shipping. :3When it arrives I'll take a few pictures -- nothing too detailed in order to encourage you all to actually buy it (maybe I'll put -- ew -- watermarks on it), but just to show what the quality is.
Oh hey someone on capslock_atla posted these sketches.
>>77921Thank you, rockin!Appa. You are the spur I needed to purchase this.
Gah, it's shipped for me, but I won't get it for another fortnight due to transatlantic shipping.Sounds cool, I'm looking forward to it.
>>77944Who did you order it from?
Yay the artbook arrived! I took a few shitty pictures with my shitty camera, up through the "season 1" section of the book.http://www.flickr.com/photos/50606258@N02/sets/72157624155855416/Pic related, it's Katara with a sword.
>>78057I love Conceptara more than anyone should love anything.
>>78124I love how Suki was going to be fucking hot no matter which design they used.
>>78144You mean Katara?
>>78145No, I mean Suki.A Katara is fine too, though.
>>78146 Oh wow. I can't believe I never saw it, but think Suki's design is based on Princes Mononoke. I'm so glad they took the stripes off her cheeks, because it made the comparison a little too obvious. There were some scenes- particularly Azula's huge breakdown at the end, with those almost comically huge globby tears... that almost made me forget I was watching Nickelodeon and not a Miyazaki film.
>>78148 Oops, that was me. Forgot to put my name in. I'm a little disppointed that a casual google search isn't turning up either of the screencaps I'm looking for, but just for comparison I'd like to see the caps of Azula screaming/crying with one of Sen crying while eating the bun in the garden in Spirited Away. I'll have to look for those pics later though, since I have to get to a convention now. D:
>>78150>I'd like to see the caps of Azula screaming/crying with one of Sen crying while eating the bun in the garden in Spirited AwayHUGE TEARS D:
>>78148I don't see it really.
>>78124Her face/eyes look a little weird, but I love the little hair danglies. Loopies are still superior, though.>>78146The makeup on her cheeks looks awkward. I'm glad they scrapped it.>>78148Doesn't look that similar to me.These pics are making me wish I had my book already.
They point out a lot of anime influences that I would've never caught in this book. Like apparently Bumi's physique is based on that of the Evangelions.
>>78184And Hei Bai's monster form rips a few pages from the design of the Angels from Evangelion.
>>78191THAT'S what I was being reminded of!
I will treasure this forever and ever and ever.My only qualm? Why does Chan have more concept art in here than Mai and Ty Lee? And Azula barely gets more than a couple sketches, too. As a massive Dangerous Ladies fangirl, I feel a little jipped. There is so much other cool stuff to distract me in here, though. <3
>>78286:D!but yeah, you're right -- a lot of secondary characters barely got anything. But at least there's a lot of cool setting-related stuff to make up for it.
>>78286Ugh, I was afraid of that--Mai is like my favorite character. :/ What a shame.Totally still buying it, though.
>>78286Is that all there is for Mai and Ty Lee? D: That really sucks, they're both pretty important characters. Aw well. Mine should be arriving on Thursday and I'm sure there's enough cool stuff in it to make up for the lack of Dangerous Ladies awesome.
Oh hey, piandao.org (more like piandao.BROrg) has posted a bunch of quality scans from the artbook: http://piandao.org/scans/artbook/
>>78286That makes me frowny. :(>>78303I'm only going to look at a few of these to avoid spoiling myself before my own book arrives. But I'm kind of worried that having too many good scans of this thing floating around will discourage people from buying the artbook, and I want lots of people to buy it so that maybe we'll get more cool merchandise, like a soundtrack. I want one of those bad.
>>78398I agree. This is something that had a lot of love put into it.
>>78398 >>78418>"I'm only going to look at a few of these to avoid spoiling myself before my own book arrives. But I'm kind of worried that having too many good scans of this thing floating around will discourage people from buying the artbook, and I want lots of people to buy it so that maybe we'll get more cool merchandise, like a soundtrack. I want one of those bad."I don't want Piandao.org to be the reason why people WOULDN'T buy the book. I've scaled the number of scans back from 95 to 30. This is slightly less than one sixth of the book's total content (it has 186 pages). Hopefully, the scans that I've chosen to showcase accurately represent all that this book has to offer. I wouldn't want the site to fall short of properly advertising it to potential buyers.
I'm afraid of buying this book because The Allspark Almanac has forever changed my perception of art books, and it's pretty stiff competition.
I ordered mine over the weekend and paid to have Amazon deliver it today. Its 8:35pm Eastern and the damn thing isn't here!
>>78457Well yeah, it kinda was just Memorial Day. They're gonna be backlogged.
>>78286>I feel a little jipped. Isn't that a racial slur or sumfink?
>>78460Yep, against Roma (Gypsies).
>>78461Huh. Aight. Learn somethin new erryday, I s'pose.
>>78429That was the right decision, I think.
>>78459 I forgot about that. But the tracking info says its about half an hour away, so I'm not gonna leave the house til it shows up.
>>78429That works for me. Thank you for the scans, good sir (ma'am?)
My copy arrived today and I spent the afternoon looking through it. Absolutely spectacular. It's fascinating to read about how the characters evolved, how they got people like Sifu Kisu on, the insane amount of work that went into the show...just awesome. I'm so happy I bought this. And despite the fact that I'm not happy with the movie, I really like Shymalan's foreword.
Got mine today!brb, fapping furiously
My copy just arrived. It came at the same time as a couple of parcels for one of my housemates. I was standing there wondering why parcels from the UK just have a little Air Mail sticker on them, while parcels from the US are slathered with barcodes and security declarations and so forth, when I noticed something. Just check out this photo I took...Does anyone here no enough about the Royal Mail to say whether this has nothing to do with anything, or what?
The thing on the Chinese calligraphy of the series by S.L. Lee blew my mind.
>>78813I order from the UK a lot and could potentially help, but I don't quite understand what you're asking. Do you use the name kora or something?
>>78932Nah dude, the new rumoured Avatar series is called Legend of Korrah
>>78932What Milli said. The text string "kora" does not occur in my name, address, or any information I could have conceivably used in ordering the book. Not even if I alphabetize my credit card number or something.
>>78940Forgot my hat.
This book is better than sex.
>Love this book so much I want to share the love>Order a copy for friends>Oh hey, why don't they have it yet? It's been too long!>Check Amazon>Not Yet Shipped>Temporarily out of stock>Delivery estimate: August 12, 2010 - October 2, 2010FFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUU

>>81244I pre-ordered mine from Chapters (Canada book seller), except they said the publish date was June 15. So, no surprise now, mine still hasn't shown up due to this. Any other Cannucks still waiting for their copy or am I just lucky?
Opps, asked about it in the wrong thread... as long as people are constantly ordering it on Amazon, the book will keep being printed, right? Cause I'm not sure when I'll be able to get it.
I ordered mine four days ago on Amazon. It says it's going to come in on the 27th. That's such a long time. How will I be able to wait?
I'm so glad I live in Europe. Got it in less than a week.
I just ordered it from Amazon this morning, and I'm giddy as a schoolgirl in a hentai manga!I think I'll take a week after I get it to try to just churn out Avatar fanart.
>No, not the one with all those blue smurf-kittiesI don't get it.
>>78286As an Azula fanboy i was kinda pissed about that as well, still great book
>>78286Those eyes are mass murd'r eyes if I ever seen them.
