He doesn't have hips like the way he's drawn here, he's hot headed, very defensive of others looking at his girlfriend, and quick to challenge others to an Agni Kai, which is *nothing* if not some overtly machismo contest of honor.

If anything, you're better off making the argument that he's trying too hard to be masculine, or even compensating, but all in all, Zuko's not very girly.

I think I'm just annoyed with them making him a swishy submissive uke. The kid has serious, serious trust issues. The only two people he's warmed up enough to trust was Mai (and look what he had to do to help restore balance) and Aang (and fandom has issues with underage shota, thinking he'll be 12 forever).

Jetko fans and Zukka fans usually go for the swishy bottom route. I'm sure there is fic out there where Jet or Sokka eventually earns Zuko's trust, but I honestly don't care. I've been burnt too much.

You're right. He tries way too hard. And, to me, he comes across as dorky more than "manly", or the suave lady-killer he's sometimes portrayed as. I never said he was girly. I just don't see him as being as masculine as some people claim.

Fandom takes extremes with Zuko. He's either too girly or too masculine.

I feel like there are serious problems with slash fandom's tendency to categorize either half of a couple as top or bottom based on character. And often it involves the uke being... very uke-ish with the vulnerability and physical inferiority (to the seme) and crossdressing and such. So the man penetrates and the other (wo)man takes it, and is weaker for it? Eh. I deal with it because that's the format almost all slash comes in.

Maybe I overreacted, but sometimes I get tired of the fandom's emasculating of Zuko since he's one of my favorite characters. It's only funny up to a point, then it starts getting annoying. Also seconding everything >>74766 said. I grow weary of the macho, predatory seme pursuing the weak, woobified little uke trope. Or that all gay men are automatically sissies. It doesn't have to be bara, but I prefer two "normal" guys that are hot for each other instead of castrating one of them to fit the relationship.

Haru is the first to be hired about 6 months after Zuko was crowned. Zuko was not informed of this and is not sure if he was okay with it. Especially since Haru's methods of keeping him safe were… questionable.
