First computer? Hard drive? Pffft. Kids these days!

The instruction caches on my current CPU are double the size of the RAM (all of it) of my first computer.

Yeah, that's the joke: that I'm so damn old that home computers didn't come with hard disk drives when I was a kid.

I think I need to get better at this whole 'humor' thing. :\

Yay! I'm not as unfunny as I thought!

In the spirit of reciprocation: my first computer was a Commodore 64, WITH a 1541 disk drive, which was staggeringly slow by the disk drive standards of the day, but beat the living shit out of tape.

Okay.
Apparently the K-lite coder pack is pure poison to Adobe products and will require total and complete re-instillation of every price of software including the OS, for which I used an OEM edition.

Great. Fantastic.

I need to know good brands of rechargible AAA battery.
These headphones of mine guzzle disposables fast enough that it's just not cost effective and I'm not going into the enviromental issues of them either.

So, any ideas?

I think VirtualDub can do that.

>>4098
I can't recommend specific brands, but from what I've heard you generally get what you pay for with rechargeable batteries. I'd say go for the big name brands.

So there's a couple teeny specks on my monitor which just don't go away. They're seemingly a couple pixels which are just perpetually dark. Most of the time they're lost amidst the graphical noise of whatever I'm looking at, and I forget they're even there. On a site like this though, with clean, bright backgrounds, they stand out more and give me a tic of annoyance every time they catch my attention. Is there any way to remedy them?
>> No. 4107

I think those are called 'dead pixels'
Nothing short of a new monitor will fix that, as far as I know.

now we just need to scale it up and put it in space
>> No. 4110
Yep, that appears to be it. I checked out some possible remedies for if it was just a couple stuck pixels, but none of them made a difference. Also took a look at the warranty, and unless another three pixels burn out within the next year and a half, it won't qualify for service or replacement. Oh well.

I've always gamed on default settings on whatever computer I was currently using, and was sort of satisfied as long as I didn't get heinous lag or absurd graphical glitches.

In general, is there a dramatic difference if you upgrade everything, or get a custom-made computer?
>> No. 4117
>>4116
Yes, but generally for the money you pay, if it's worth it depends on how well you value visuals. A good 'gaming rig' will have you get a GPU and either pay someone to install it from the same place you got your desktop, or install it yourself (if your computer is retail, that violates the warranty, by the way)

I myself grew up in an era of low tech video games and biting poverty, so I have no problem whatsoever running every game in as low and untaxing a visual setting as the game allows to play it.
>> No. 4121
>>4108
Didn't that thing come out a couple of years ago?
>> No. 4122

I didn't have many games as a kid because my parents thought they were a waste of money, so I have a similar mentality. I just want to play a game and have it run decently.

Art style I value over graphical quality, anyways. A game could look beautiful, but be designed in the most boring, cliche way, or look not as sharp, but ten times prettier.

Yeah, but see, new tests, new models and new power levels come out. It's a constantly improving technology. We have a proof of concept model for that amount of power. Now we need to make a BIGGER one that uses MORE power and delivers MORE punch, and with a delivery system that's even more survivable.

It's the mold for the mold of the mold before the final mold for the actual masterpiece.

Fly ten thousand miles and land on an object the size of a compact car. And create a crater the depth of the titanic's length. All in the window of two hours.
No lengthy wait times to reload. Simply a rain of burning rods of tungsten and aluminum, interspersed with buckshot for surface targets.

I'm looking for headphones or a headset, which has to be USB (the front jacks on my computer aren't working and I don't want to go behind my computer and unplug my speakers anytime I want to put on headphones). I'd try >>3857 but it's out of stock almost everywhere.

Can anyone recommend something similar in the $30-70 range?

They're not going to stop until they find a method that controls such things to their satisfaction, i.e., protecting their money and their corporate interests.

Mainstream media has been decreasing in market share, though. It could be that in a few years, some of these entities may dissolve
