Ok I'm not sure if this is supposed to go in /cog/ or not but since you talk about hardware and Software I figure this is worth a shot.

Anyway my problem is that when ever I change discs after not playing it for a long time it won't read the disc. Whenever that happens I have to take it apart at manually move the disc reader up. Is there anyway to fix it so that it will stay fixed? It's starting to get annoying.

Anyone got any ideas?

when you say "take it apart" how far apart do you take it?

All the way to where the disc is supposed to be stored. Then I move the thing that reads the disc forward.

check the track. Might be that the laser reader is getting worn.

Other than that it is difficult to replace or fix because each system is hard-coded for the drive it has in it

That may be it. Is there something I can put on it to fix it or am I stuck.

By the way. Thanks for all of your help so far.

No problem man.

I must admit I've never actually fully stripped a CD Drive before. TMK, the laser sits on a track and moves along it with a motor. Either the motor can break down or, on older models, the track can get worn down and the motor won't hold to it. The drives themselves are hard-coded to the boxes by Model I believe. Trying to find another 360 drive of the same model is a pain in the ass (I've stripped 4, none of them had the same drive model). However, the internal components should not have the same issue. If you can get your hands on a secondary 360 drive or even just a CD drive with a similar track, you could probably switch it out.

Failing that, you may be SOL. Microsoft does not like people who crack their 360 shells.

Fuck. Oh well. I guess I'll just keep taking it apart and pushing it. Thanks anyway.

try holding it up and shaking it (not rattle) in a direction that would move it.

I know a few people with the same problem. One refuses to open no matter what now and the others are really iffy about it.
Not ragging on console owners or anything but the 360 has a completely ridiculous failure rate. The first Xbox was bullet proof but the 360 melts, breaks, or even grinds the fucking disk. I only know one person who hasn't had a 360 die on them.
