I must admit I've never actually fully stripped a CD Drive before. TMK, the laser sits on a track and moves along it with a motor. Either the motor can break down or, on older models, the track can get worn down and the motor won't hold to it. The drives themselves are hard-coded to the boxes by Model I believe. Trying to find another 360 drive of the same model is a pain in the ass (I've stripped 4, none of them had the same drive model). However, the internal components should not have the same issue. If you can get your hands on a secondary 360 drive or even just a CD drive with a similar track, you could probably switch it out.
Failing that, you may be SOL. Microsoft does not like people who crack their 360 shells.
