Starters are cute but generic.
Physical attack animations ACTUALLY HAVE THE TWO POKEMON TOUCHING HOLY SHIT I HAVE BEEN WAITING A DECADE FOR THIS TO HAPPEN.
Not so big on the change from top-down to full 3D, but that's nostalgia talking, so I'll wait and see.
Anyone else notice the roller blades? You couldn't actually see them, but in the shot where the male player is moving towards the camera the leg movements are like blading.

If you're gonna rip off any anime company for Pokemon, Ghibli is a good fit. Also I figure the Water starter is the best cause people bitched a lot about Oshawott, so this is making up for it. (Although I personally like Oshawott. Aquatic samurai, bitches!)

I told my brother I'd be fine with a 3D Pokemon if it looked like the Pokedex app on 3DS, and it looks like it does.

As nice as it looks, I hope there's an option to turn it off. Once the novelty wears off, I want battling and grinding to be as smooth as possible. Which is weird, because they were quick in HGSS but slow to grind; battles were sluggish in BW but grinding went by faster.

I wish. One of the big change ups I've wanted was to get another trio, like dark/fighting/psychic, to change things up. Maybe have the trio you use be decided on a starting town, so the game isn't super linear. (Ground/Fight/Fly is another possibility, I think.)
>> No. 25924
What makes Fire - Water - Grass so unique among the typings is that each type is super effective against one, while not very effective against the other.
Dark - Psychic - Fighting doesn't work the same way, because Dark is totally immune to Psychic, it doesn't just resist it. There are plenty of circular trios; bug/fighting/psychic, rock/steel/fire, and I know there are more, but I'm drawing a blank and feel too lazy to go stare at the typing chart, but I think the only other true trio as far as x2/x0.5 goes is Rock/Fighting/Flying, and God help us all if we get another Fire/Fighting starter.
(although Rock/Fire, Grass/Flying, and Water/Fighting would be neato-torpedo)

It's NOT just a matter of the balance between the three. It's also a matter of the balance with the rest of the game.

Traditionally, each of the three choices tend to be indicative of different difficulty/playthrough styles, as each one has strengths against different gyms. Usually, there'll be one choice that's really strong out of the gate and becomes progressively less useful as the game progresses, and one that starts off shit but becomes gamebreaking later on. It's one of those Japanese challenge things.

>>25929
It's called Pocket Monsters for a reason. The series has always been Nintendo's big draw for handhelds because you're meant to play it on the go and play with your friends. It's one of the prime reasons the online trading is so unintuitive, so you actually play with your friends and don't just rely on wifi trades. Also Game Freak was one of the first studios to get a 3DS devkit, X and Y have been in development since before Black and White were released.

Which Game Freak subverted in all the Unova games with the Striation triplets and Cheren.

The player in BW faces the brother who's monkey has a type advantage against the player's starter is weak against. The player is supposed to pick up a counter in the form of another monkey, but the type advantage move is generally too weak to take out the brother's monkey, and it cannot be leveled up reliably, as the closest training area has wild Pokémon that, barring the a few lucky Audino (who I don't think spawn until the player triggers an event set after their first badge), are half its level, which, taking into account the new EXP scaling system, makes it all the more harder to level up.

Cheren's normal-type Pokémon present a similar problem. Most savvy people would choose Riolu to counter his Pokémon, but Riolu doesn't learn a conventionally damaging Fighting-type move until Level 15, which brings us back to the leveling problem presented above.

I'm probably overanalyzing this, but it seems Game Freak went out of its way to make sure players worked hard for their first badge these last few games.

The 3D in B&W was on a different scale than this. You were still mainly a sprite in a world with a static camera; it would merely shift vantage points when useful (like entering the bridge). I think other sources have been the ones suggesting Chespin might be Dark. If it's true, it'd mean each of the Starters would have STAB access to Super Effective moves against both others, though the type they start off as would be weak against the primary rival's Pokemon.

The biggest advantage to this is that, if they stick with the two rivals thing we've been doing recently, now both rivals have Starters that can put forward a real challenge against your own, and even if you've only got your starter, you can actually fight against either.

After I saw the ...third new-generation or around that coming up my interest simply began to die off.

I played mu share of the games... Red/Blue, Yellow, Gold/Silver (I think we had the TCG adaptation for the GBC as well) and a bunch of miscellaneous N64 games such as Stadium or Snap. But after a certain point enough is enough.

I guess it helped that grinding is something I can only enjoy for so long.

Nintendo is actually being really effective at killing my enthusiasm for these games. I was thinking about breaking my policy of only buying every other main game for this one, but after months of them talking about nothing that I care about or like my interest has slowly dwindled all the way down to zero. Outside of the main games, Mystery Dungeon, the slim hope of Pokemon Snap 2, and maybe checking in on the anime every once in awhile (it's a good convo piece for when I spend time with my little brother), I don't really pay attention to the series.

I could never find anyone as a kid who actually knew how to play the TCG (although I still own the cards, it's fun to see how the art's evolved or how different artists depict the same 'mon), and a lot of the other games feel like random puzzle games or whatever with Pokemon added in.

Well I guess I'll summarize for, like, the two people that use only this board for their pokediscussion.

Pokexperto, the site that leaked the entire gen 5 roster, sorta kinda maybe leaked a new Fairy type, but not really, and in secret, and possibly as a joke. That's it. Nothing official. I guess that some people started talking about Sound and Light types but nobody takes them seriously because they have no proof whatsoever (as opposed to Fairy, which at least has unsubstantiated maybe-proof).
Pictured: complete bullshit.

As for how this usually goes down, every month corocoro reveals basically nothing. This goes on for months. Then just before launch everything speeds up ridiculously. At this point it turns out that one of the leaks was true and they spoil basically everything. While things might be different this time around they probably won't because nintendo.

In Leafgreen it was celebrity chefs. Giada the Beedrill, Alton the Venusaur, etc.
SoulSilver was semi-uncommon human names (as to avoid the GO, GEORGE problem). Brett, Cassandra, Marissa, so on.
In Black I named them after the friends I associate that specific Pokemon with, although I learned that makes breeding pretty weird and won't be doing it again.

Ok squabbles aside, look at all this stuff!

Customizable characters, riding goats, new pokemans, etc.
Also, need I mention the fact that the clothing designs here don't border on the realm of pure idiocy. Like, holy damn, that is a track jacket/hiking jacket with normal pants and hiking boots. Also a regular cap with normal colored hair for the guy. The girl has some dependable shoes with a nice stalkings skirt combo plus a decent blouse. The shades for both a little silly, but pokefrench excuses that.

And what could those interesting watch-gadgets be? They look like some sort of new device that isn't ludicrously silly and futuristic. Or maybe it is, and they decided to finally make the little devices look normal.

Oh, and oh man, is that a map I see? Why yes, yes it is. The thing looks like pokEurope. Who doesn't want to run around all over that place.

Also that little funny looking yellow salamander thing. I want the catch the hell out of that thing.

Pancham evolves into Pangoro in the early level 30s. In order to evolve Pancham into Pangoro, you need to have one other Dark-type Pokemon in your party. Pangoro's type is Fighting/Dark.

A Pokemon named Inkay evolves into Malimar. To evolve it, you have to hold your 3DS upside-down when it levels up (the 3DS has an accelerometer and gyroscope, so it can detect that). Malimar's type is Dark/Psychic.

A Psychic-type Pokemon named Espurr (ESP + purr) evolves into Meowstick (Meow + mystic?). (Sounds like Psychic-type cats.)

Like in B/W you have two rivals - one is friendly and the other is competitive. Your rival that is more friendly gives you his/her fully evolved starter Pokemon after you beat the game.

Another professor named Sycamore gives you either Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Squirtle.

Even though it shows the player riding on a Gogoat in the new trailer, players can't ride on their own Pokemon. What was shown is just an alternate way of getting around Lumiose City and it only works with Gogoat.

HMs still exist but there's a lot less of them.

Players will be able to see their Pokemon's EVs (probably through the same in-game facility mentioned in the other post).

A new move, Belch, is a Poison-type attack that has a base power of 120. The user must consume a held Berry to perform it.

Draining Kiss is a Fairy-type attack that heals the user for the same amount of damage performed. It has a base power of 60.

If the previously revealed forme of Mewtwo can be said to look roughly similar to Mewtwo's original design, the second supposed form of Mewtwo can be said to look roughly/vaguely similar to Mew's design.

In case you missed our correction the other day, the Starters' final evolutions are Fire/Psychic, Grass/Dark, and Water/Fighting.

A - The new region is based on France because it's one of the many countries that have a focus on beauty, a major theme we want to explore in the worlds. Actually we weren't supposed to admit France was an inspiration, whoops (laughs).
Q - Is there a possibility of the old video games being available on virtual console?
A - We believe that Pokemon is the best on the handhelds, which is why we are careful to decide if we want to put it on a home console.
Q - Why is the game still locked to a grid?
A - It's a lot easier to plot out when scripted events will happen. HOWEVER, using the analogue pad with the rollerskates movement is much more free (8 directions, etc)
Q - Will there be a story reason why Fairy-type will all of a sudden exist?
A - When we first decided we wanted to bring the type into the world, we wanted to find a way to balance the stength of the Dragon type. But no one wants us to weaken the Dragon-type Pokemon, so we decided to come up with something that could go against a Dragon, so that's why we came up with the Fairy-type.
Q - Could you go into detail about how Mewtwo goes in new formes? Would you like him to be in Smash Bros.?
A - Long pauses, lots of laughs. I can't really explain WHAT that Pokemon you're talking about was or if it will appear in other games as well. But with Smash Brothers we always carefully decide which characters we want to add.

>Fairy-type was created partly to combat the imbalance of Dragon-type's power and some imbalances in the type chart. Just like Dark and Steel back in Generation II.
>Using Pokemon-amie (included with X & Y) can help your Pokemon get benefits like more critical hits or dodging more attacks and lets you interact with your pokemon on a more personal level.
>Sky Battles are a new battle and pay more since the user can only use pokemon than can fly or hover.
>Rematches are easier and can be used earlier.

Officially confirmed fairy types are: Sylveon (Fairy), Gardevoir (Psychic/Fairy), Jigglypuff (Normal/Fairy), and Marill (Water/Fairy)

For the first time in a LONG time I'm going to have a very hard time deciding on teammates. Provided all the neat ones don't show up until post gym 6 like they usually do.

Also do we know how the dex is looking? I'm assuming it's mostly BW's list plus the new mons with some throwbacks to show off the new type or a nice mixture of all the generations. The worst thing they could do (in my opinion) would be to just shotgun blast us with most of the 700+ Pokemon at once.

So for people saying that the revealed Fairy updated Pokemon don't pose much of a threat to the Dragon type... Well rumor has it:

>Poison and Steel are super effective against Fairy; Fairy is immune to Dragon move; Fairy type is super effective against Dragon, Dark, and Fighting; Fairy is "not very effective" against Fire and Psychic-type Pokemon

Also some attacks may have two types. Weither they have two modes or count as two types at once or something different is unknown.

The way I heard it (and this is still just rumor), "dual type" moves will actually just get STAB from one type, but deal damage from another type. Probably has the weakest set of starters and mascots after D/P, but most of the other new Pokes are solid. Gen 1/2 was good because the monsters were mostly animal-based and abstract enough to be cute, cool, or both. Gen 3/4 suffered from the mons being more detailed and realistic but losing a lot of charm in the process. Gen 5 kept the more complicated designs which led to some fantastic designs but also a lot of garbage ones. In comparison 6 seems to be sticking more to the animal theme and Fairy has a lot of neat possibilities so hopefully there will be less Garbodors and Vanilluxes floating around.

That's why the Dark type exists and was made and the Dark type hasen't been a problem like ever so it's unlikely.

No I mean the Psychic class is overly broad, especially among the Legendaries, because most of the other types generally require their members' designs to be more strictly themed while you can throw anything that's vaguely mystical but not a dragon into Psychic.

When you ignore stuff like Normal/Flying types (which are kind of the equivalent of non-elemental and have the Fairy type to deal with the excess), the only types with more pokes are Water and Grass, which are by nature pretty far-reaching.

Some Pokemon will now have "Mega" forms which they achieve through a new mechanic called "Mega Evolution." CoroCoro shows Mega Blaziken, Mega Lucario, Mega Absol, Mega Mawile, Mega Ampharos, and the previously-revealed Mega Mewtwo. They are each of slightly different heights and weights than their normal forms, feature new Abilties, and can be different types.

A Torchic will be distributed over Wi-Fi from October 12th to January 15th, which can eventually evolve into Mega Blaziken. It comes with a new hold item called "Blazikenite" and will need to use a "Mega Stone." These are perhaps the item mechanics that allow a Pokemon to eventually achieve its mega form (our source had originally stated that Mewtwo needs items to achieve its new "formes").

Each of the revealed Mega Pokemon have different Abilities than usual: Mega Blaziken has Speed Boost, Mega Lucario has Adaptability, Mega Absol has Magic Bounce, Mega Mawile has Huge Power, Mega Ampharos has Mold Breaker, and Mega Mewtwo has Insomnia.

Mega Ampharos is now Electric/Dragon. Mawile has been retyped to Steel/Fairy, as has its Mega form.

The term "Mega Evolution" was first trademarked back in February.
A new female Gym Leader named Koruni knows all about Mega Evolutions.

Gogoat has a pre-evolution named Meikuru, who is 0.9m and 31.0kg.
Dedenne, the Antenna Pokemon, is an Electric/Fairy type. Its abilities are Pick Up or a new ability called Cheek Pouches. It is 0.2m and 2.2kg.

Horubii, the Digging Pokemon, is a Normal-type. Like Dedenne it also has the abilities Pick Up or Cheek Pouches. It is 0.4m and 5.0kg.
The Super Training area is seen in the scan of the new Kalos Pokemon.

That's probably for the best given how overpowered Blaziken was as of 5th gen.

I'm also kind of perplexed as to why they decided to give mega forms to Mawile and Absol rather than just giving them both new evolutions. With Ampharos or Mewtwo it makes mroe sense as they're either fully evolved or legendary but Mawile and Absol are both underpoweered non-evolvers in desperate need of a power boost.

I wish some of these Pokemon like Mawile got actual evolutions instead of just Mega alts.

Personally I'd love to see this cute little guy get an evo that turns it into a feathered serpent creature or something. Or Farfetch'd becoming something so it stops sucking.

Nope; instead it'll just be more already decent Pokemon.
Expect the next two Megas revealed to be Garchomp and Salamance.

It's the principle, retard. And not everybody has the time or money to go to all these events anyway. Remember when Celebi was only accessible for a single month to people in New York?

It's somewhat ok when you have maybe one or two special things for people like Mew or whatnot; but when you've got 10+ super exclusive characters, PLUS items floating around, that rustles my jammies.
I don't know what the 3DS's wireless capabilities are, but if they're the same as the DS's, even finding a compatible hotspot can be a pain in the ass.

There's so many Legendaries and special Pokemon that I almost want a game with no Legendaries or special Pokemon in it, but that'd probably not go over well at all.

Eh, there will always be a few "Title" Legendaries.
One of the main thing that pisses me off about this distribution nonsense is that it ruins what could have been an amazing narrative had the Pokemon been included from default.

For instance, Team Plasma revived and equipped Genesect; How awesome would it be to go into a secret lab and see the thing go on a rampage then storm off or whatever it did? There's so much flavor behind that little Pokedex entry and it's just squandered for the sake of Game Freak waving its cock about for no other reason than to say it's super secret special.

If they did more "content patches" like they did with Celebi, than I'm all for it; the short time the Pokemon are distributed over then becomes a major point of aggravation.

All in all, thank god for those GTS hacks.

Yeah I don't usually have the means for that. Sorry.
