With all these parallels to Alabasta I'm starting to think about nakumas/numakuas/kumquats.

Who's the highest ranking chick on the Dofla Pirates?

What about Rebecca for Nakama though?

Since now we know Viola is the princess ala Vivi....

I'm secretly gunning for MeraMerabecca but I've been burned on princesses before. No trust left.

>people genuinely still think they're gonna get any new nakama from this point forward in the story

Oda not picking up Jinbe on the spot was proof enough. We're now on the second half of the story where it's winding down and taking shape for a final conflict/conclusion. There's not gonna be any new Strawhats, sorry.
>> No. 32215
>>32214

I remember people saying stuff like that about Brook. I'm sure I could dig up some posts. Actually some people said that about Franky too but they got shut up pretty quickly because one of the SH's explicit goals in Water 7 was finding a shipwright.

I'd actually argue that this arc is sort of a "last call" for crewmates since after this it's immediately on to Kaido, and Jinbe is already lined up for Big Mom. After THAT is probably the final-ish stretch since the only Emperors left will be Shanks and Blackbeard.
>> No. 32216
>>32215
I don't see why people would have said that about Brook or Franky, since no one even suspected a giant series-separating timeskip was on the way. Saying that before the skip is ignorance, saying it after is stupidity. And why is this the "last call for crewmates"? You don't think that would have been BEFORE the timeskip and BEFORE getting ready to enter the New World? Why do they need to pick up any additional people? What need is there? I can't think of a single person they've met this entire arc who would be a good Strawhat. Not a single one.

Like I said, Jinbe was the last and clearest sign of this. He could have been a full fledged member with them right now running around Dressrosa, but Oda pulled some excuse to make him an "honorary Strawhat" on the sidelines instead, which puts him on the same tier as Vivi or Boa or Rayleigh.
>> No. 32217
>>32216

See the thing was that the series was ALREADY halfway over, since Skypeia. I think a common prediction was Water 7 -> Fishman Island -> Elbaf/Pirate Summit -> Raftel. And the Strawhats would be so powerful once Enies Lobby was done that only the the strongest pirates (no emperors back then, so just Whitebeard, Blackbeard, and Shanks) and admirals could stand up against them, and Warlords were just going to be roadbumps. And how could anybody join and still call themselves a Strawhat without even being there for Luffy's declaration of war against the World Government, or ever living on the Going Merry, or not being there when entire crew got bounties and became world famous? They could never fit in; they had simply missed too much. Basically, pre-Sunny/post-Sunny was the old pre-timeskip/post-timeskip, and you could find+replace them on your argument and pretty much get an exact post circa 2007.

So instead of looking for patterns and significance and whatnot I just go with the flow, because anything anybody says about how the story is going to go is probably dead wrong.

Also I'm not touching the Jinbe thing since I agreed to drop everything about that until the Big Mom arc.
>> No. 32218
>>32217
Haha yeah but there never was a 'pirate summit', that was just silly people jumping on a mistranslated chapter, when Ace was talking to Luffy to join him in becoming a big name pirate they thought he was referring to Luffy meeting him at an actually gathering for pirates.
Mistaking summit as a methapor relating to [climbing the mountain] in becoming a famous pirate for 'Summit Meeting'.

There's less of those translation problems nowadays, since even if we get an inaccurate translation right away we get a better one soon after.

>>32217
I dunno, broseph. I see what you're saying more clearly now, but the timeskip is still the biggest marker we have ever had. Like I said, before timeskip, it would have been people's ignorance talking because we just didn't know HOW long the series was going to be. But now Oda has given a clear guideline of what he's planning. He's said the timeskip marked the official second half, and this whole pirate alliance/Emperor/Supernova fiasco will most likely BE the whole second half.

But yeah, speculations on nakamas is like a kick to the grundle for me at this point. I'm just done with it. Let Oda do whatever the fuck he wants.
>> No. 32220
>>32219

The thing is that I'm expecting a decent size arc AFTER Luffy becomes Pirate King. Basically, what Whitebeard hinted at when he was dying. So when you look at it that way we have to finish up the multi-part Kaido arc we're on right now, then Big Mom, then whatever else until Luffy gets to Raftel, then the last one. Any one of these can easily be 2, 3, or more years long. We're not even close to the end, and that's why I'm fine with more namakuas.
>> No. 32221
I'm unable to even imagine how the series will end personally
>> No. 32222
Isn't thinking about One Piece ending strange? It seems hard to picture, like if it were a thing that could just go on forever.
>> No. 32223
>>32220
There won't be anything after Luffy becomes Pirate King cause he's going to die. He doesn't have any plans after become King anyway.

Also, I doubt we'll have JUST a Kaido saga and then another saga JUST for Big Mom. I see these two intermingling together. I'm still not even 100% sure Big Mom will be a threat to them. Besides, her bomb should be going off any day now.

>You now realize these "three days until the Tea Party" are going to take literal years in our time.

>he's going to die.

Lamest theory. That'd make Luffy only as good as Roger. He's got to surpass Roger, or else Oda should have just written Roger's journey instead.

> Actually some people said that about Franky too

Nah, man. Franky era was all about Franky vs. Paulie (vs. crackpot theories like Kaku)
>> No. 32228
>>32227

Yeah. Some people=Paulie supporters. At that point it was REALLY desperate Pauliefags saying stuff like that, and that since the new ship was going to be indestructible there didn't even need to be a shipwright, or that Franky was too old/tall. The "Jinbe can't fit through doors" of the Water 7 era.

I've pretty much come to terms with the fact that nakama discussion will never be that fun ever again. An explicitly defined position, active recruitment drive, and wide variety of interesting, powerful, and mysterious candidates is something we've never really had since then.

Maybe if the Strawhat fleet becomes a real thing and we can have some fun discussing division commanders or something.

>"Jinbe can't fit through doors"
You know, that becomes extra hilarious when you remember that the other popular candidate was Shirahoshi (hell even the Surume gag suggestion has the same joke).
>> No. 32230
>>32229

What really makes it extra hilarious is that all three of them were considered as "advanced sea navigation." Ignoring the (best) squid, they wanted A PRINCESS AND WEAPON OF MASS DESTRUCTION and AN OVER 400 MILLION BOUNTY EX-SHICHIBUKAI to basically tow a boat around for hundreds of chapters.

Bonus: Jinbe ended up doing that in Caribou's cover story anyway.

The Robin face does feel kind of forced. The reveal that Dofla didn't step down would be shocking but I mean think of the shit she's seen and done in the series with at most an expression of worry.

I'd like to think its part of her adjusting to the crew better but it's still iffy. Bah whatever I guess, its not like its a big deal and we'll all forget once shit gets real.

Actually, you're completely right.

I'm being completely unfair. The guy really hasn't done anything wrong. I'm just bitter about the drama from the whole fishman arc and I feel him using that name is like a badge of honor to remind me of how annoying that whole situation was. But that in no way gives me the right to barge in and cause more drama.

I behaved rudely and hypocritically and for that I am sorry. Please continue with your conversation. I wont bother you with my personal vendettas again.
