I am REALLY excited to see the group do the Arlong Saga... since its so close...

Also interested in seeing how he weaves more of the movies into the campaigns narrative.

I wonder how it will handle the party being split up just before the timeskip?

D&D (specifically 3.5) seems like a really bad system to try and play One Piece ADVENTURES in, its all about the Caster's. Infact it would be fair to say that D&D is not a good system and doesn't deserve its popularity but has built up such grand momentum over the years it keeps sucking in new people.
>> No. 31909
>>31908
D&D is good as long as you want to play in a D&D world, but trying to recreate specific settings using D&D rules is a somewhat silly endeavor. For all they try to make it "setting-agnostic," it's really, truly not setting-agnostic in the slightest.

To run One Piece as an RPG you would need something that allows for over the top action that isn't overly dependent on sticking to hard-coded and tightly-balanced rules. A wargame is really not at all the sort of place you should be looking when doing a game like One Piece. My first inclination is FATE, but I've had FATE on the brain lately so I might just be going with the first answer that comes to mind rather than the actual best answer.

What I played of M&M suggested it was very rules heavy in a way that seems to clash with One Piece in my mind. But I imagine you could make it work, as long as it suits you and your players' playstyle. And certainly a lot better than D&D.

That is true, though as in all things in can vary and be done well and in a fashion that can be enjoyed by the group.

The alternatives would be the player who actually goes by the nickname DM takes him as her next character... but I can't really see her playing a character with that sort of personality.
Or Rika takes him as her next character though for some reason that also seems less likely.

It's got kind of a drudgey start but once they got to Zoro it picked up. If nothing else the guy who plays Luffy has his personality down to a T.

I'd like to see the author should take the opportunity to play around with the storyline more though. That was the best thing about Darths and Droids.

Seeing Johnny and Yosaku makes me think, if I was going to run a game set in the world of One Piece I would most likely have the PC's as a group of bounty hunters. It just seems to make the most sense in regards to the typical actions of a player group.

They have more freedom and ability to act openly as they wish compared to either a marine or pirate crew, but still have a reason to travel around and fight for loot and XP.

Agree/Disagree?

Nah, I think there's too much fun to be had in letting them play pirates, so I'd probably go with that. I'd give them the option to play bounty hunters, I suppose, but it'd definitely be a let down for me if they chose it. Unless it was like a "Well I start off as a bounty hunter, but they manage to make me join the crew by X..."

Yeah, and there would be a lot of neat little distinguishing things that would make that part even more fun, like pooling resources to get awesome ships, or throwing special morale bonuses at pirates who can see their own flag (maybe each bonus different depending on the crew/flag in question) or morale penalties for enemies that can see your flag (same).

Bounties are increasingly meaningless since there's no one shown who can actually cash-in on any of the ones above average rookies, they really do only exist as power creeping rep level. There's little rhyme or reason to when and by how much they are upped too.
>> No. 32016

I somewhat agree though technically the highest bounty shown in the series so far was handed over to the marines, granted it was Blackbeard and he wanted shichibukai status but it still technically counts

Also Oda introduced that bandit in the colosseum who has been hunting lmpel down prisoners from at least level 5 and was planning to go after some from 6, though who knows if he'd be able to because we can't gauge him much since he was beaten by Chinjao who is pretty top tier.

Why is it that Oda is perfectly capable capable of making fun girl designs but never really puts them in the main story. There's only like 3 or 4 Nami/Robins and aside from FemLaw they hide it pretty well I think. Apoo in particular is really cool.

Hawkins: "What's your sign? Today, your "love luck" is..."
Law: "How many people did you kill, Drake-ya-san?"
Capone: "Military force and cosmetics are totally different!!"
Kidd: "Won't you form an alliance and have a joshikai?" [literally "girl meeting"- basically a get together among girl friends/female colleagues. Usually out at a restaurant/cafe.]
Drake: "I don't understand what's so interesting about Pacifistas" (this is the girls-don't-get-robots "joke")
Killer: "I'm back, and I brought pancakes and macaroons. We're all such good friends, huh"
Bonney: "Donburi!! Bring the next donburi" [donburi is a rice bowl with fish or meat]
Apoo: "Apyapya- So you don't know of my cuteness!?"
Urouge: "Wahh it's a Tenryuubito dassa" [not sure if that final, odd copula has some sort of joke behind it]

Anyone else have bittersweet feelings about the current storyline? I waited years for Doflamingo to stride like a colossus in the pages of One Piece as an arc villain. Now that moment is here, and it's great, but it'll end in about a year or so and then it'll be gone.

It's probably not going to finish Doflamingo's involvement in the story, but it is going to be his big, center stage moment in the series.

In-story: Well, Law is, at the most basic level, an enormous tryhard and wannabe mastermind. It makes perfect sense he would try to "collect information" for his "brilliant scheme" against Doflamingo by going there.

Meta: Law was there so he could be impressed by Luffy punching a noble and then team up for a bit. By doing so, Oda laid the foundation for Law and Kidd's future respectful rival/reluctant ally relationship with Luffy.

This is a random thought but I hope Luffy gets a chance to mature at some point, not saying his personality at all but if he grows any older I hope he actually looks like a man instead of looking even younger when in comparison to all his crew like with the timeskip being the same with just a scar and a frilly shirt.

I hope by the end of the series or the 'epilogue' he finally gets an awesome captain's jacket like he had in some of the timeskip concept art. You know what the best thing about being Oda probably is?

He likely has a room somewhere with every single POP. he can just go in an look at every single perfect 3D representation of his imagination. I swear to god, if I was a fucking millionaire, i would buy every POP first, THEN go spend my money on hookers and blow.

Is it really so great to look at models of your creations? Is it just the ego-boost you are referring to.
You think One Piece being #1 would be enough by itself.

How irked do you think Doflamingo was when he found out the fruit he ate was the seemingly lame String String Fruit? Or do you think he was able to utilize it cleverly right away?

Doflamingo's pretty good about going with the flow. If he got it as a kid, he might have known what it was before he even ate it.

But he CAN'T control people's minds, that's the thing. He just strong-arms people's bodies into doing stuff. Also we don't know for a fact that Sugar doesn't sleep. There has to be a reason all the toys are called away at night and no one is allowed outside their homes.

They've straight up said it's the String String Fruit already.

I read his post wrong. I thought he was saying it hadn't been said what it was, and it was going to be some lame thing like String String Fruit. It was the middle of the night, I'm coming off of the goddamn amazon snake monster nightmare and I'm not thinking right.

Look, I'll delete the post, okay? Let's just move on.

Holy shit I actually get what's going on with this page this time around. I've seen people talk about it and never understand how her Flower Fruit allowed the hat to just float off his head, but she's actually grabbing it with a hand behind him, growing off the mast. There's even little sfx at the back of the panels to show it. I feel so goddamn dumb.

I miss evil Robin. Baroque Works Robin is literally best Robin all day every day. This isn't even an opinion, it's fact.

Even when she was a "villain" she was too morally ambiguous to take seriously.

Caster edition seems completely unsuited to one piece.

I mean they had Kaya casually busting out cleric spells and even outright mentioned raise dead, are you telling me none of Whitebeard's allies are gonna have access to high-level resurrection magic?
>> No. 32862
Huh... I actually had a one piece dream, the strawhats fought the blackbeard pirates, and I was some minor paladin dude who was around in the port town they were throwing down in. Then there was an endging/credit scene with the post-timeskip strawhats hanging out with the pre-timeskip strawhats. It kind of wierds me out because I never remember my dreams.

Serious question.

Does anyone else think they should just get rid of /op/? We clearly don't need an entire board to discuss One Piece.

We can just do the same as all the other big shonen and have the odd general thread on /jam/, each one being able to handle the 'discussion' of multiple chapters each.

Shit like /mspa/ and /pkmn/ exists. I think we deserve to have our own board, no matter how scarcely occupied. The traffic issue is with the entire site, not just /op/.

This is also the only specific One Piece board in the entire internet as far as I know.
