fucking top chapter. Brought tears to my eyes. Can't wait for the upcoming fights.

The action in this chapter was brilliant. Best to have been seen in weeks. Finally Sanji and Nami are back to themselves. Can't wait for the fight between Smoker and Vargo

Top chapter, one of the best in the arc so far.

Did you guys know Jerry's cousin used gear third before it was cool? Yeah, I bet you didn't.

Well, no I mean I get that much. That's easy. But... right before it, he does this. Just sort of flies up there to start it.

Is it strange I'm starting to like Brownbeards huge ass?

He just wanted to look after his crew.

Speaking of which, shouldn't brownbeards crew be defecting from Ceasar when they see him alongside the strawhats or did they all die? I forget.

>>27453
Oh wait no his legs are grasping the side I see it now. That makes a LOT more sense.

>>27454
It's the first real characterization Brownbeard's had, so there's nothing wrong with it. He's just a dumbass of a pirate in a bad situation, although it'd probably be best to remember he is the type that terrorizes people. As for his crew, it's just stated that they work for Caesar. Some may be dead, some might not, but we don't really know which of the workers are Brownbeard crew members and which ones aren't.

Is there an actual reason everyone keeps saying "Strayhat" this chapter? Or are the translators just idiots?
>> No. 27459
>>27458
The translators are idiots, they've been doing this for a while for some reason.
>> No. 27460
I'm disappointed with the chapter, but not really surprised. I knew this is what would mainly happen this week. Guess that break hyped it up more for me.

Also, anybody have a translated version that wasn't done by complete morons?

It was alright.

Oddly, Naruto and Bleach were better, but this was still alright.

From here on it is going to pick up a lot.

I don't think we've had a One Piece chapter bad enough to make this true.

Moriah reviving Oars was pretty bad. I think it was just a chapter of reaction shots.

Fuck, Oda makes it hard to remember that some of the people you're cheering for are still bad people, like crocodile.

I don't necessarily feel like rereading the whole arc, but where did his other goat people come from again? I know they lost their legs from a certain kind of gas, but I forgot how they came upon the island in the first place.
>> No. 27467
>>27465

He's officially the "swordsman."

>>27466

Back when it was Vegapunk's testing area, the world government sent prisoners (from Impel Down?) there for human experimentation. Then when the bomb blew up they just left all the test subjects there to die.
>> No. 27468
>>27465
Popular misconception. The only people who call him the first mate are fans. Neither Oda or anyone else in the series has said anything about the Strawhats having a first mate.

And, in my personal opinion, Nami fills the role of first mate much more than Zoro does.
>> No. 27469
Funny enough, Zorro is most often assumed to be the Captain due to his massive power.
>> No. 27470
>>27468
Zoro's a good first mate in that he makes Luffy be a better captain, Nami's a better quartermain in that she handles all the shit Luffy doesn't bother to.
>> No. 27471
>>27470
When was the last time Zoro advised Luffy on anything before this chapter? I think the last responsible and meaningful thing Zoro's done was back in Thriller Bark. A first mate's duties are to keep the crew in line, have navigational knowledge, and take over all duties if the captain were to be absent. Who sounds to you more likely to fill that gap, Zoro or Nami?

But having said that, by all technical rights the Straw Hats still haven't found a first mate. Cause Zoro is the "swordsman" and Nami the "navigator."

maybee jinbe fur first mayt nyurhur nyuhur!

>When was the last time Zoro advised Luffy on anything before this chapter?
It's not just advice though, but also just support as well.

Back at Water 7 it was Zoro who had Luffy's back in regards to Ussopp more than anyone else on the crew, and he made sure that everyone else fell into line as well.
>> No. 27473
>>27471
Assuming there ever is a first mate (I'm not convinced there will be, assuming Nami and Zoro aren't de-facto first mates anyway), it would pretty much have to be someone who would make a good captain if they weren't the first mate, based on our discussion here.

I think that of the characters we've met, the only person who could even possibly end up as Luffy's first mate would be Shanks. The only other characters who I can think of who would have the proper leadership cred just don't seem like they would ever be Strawhats, like Crocodile, Buggy, or Law. One could possibly make an argument for Smoker, but I think the chances of him becoming a Strawhat are about the same as the chances of him becoming a unicorn.
>> No. 27474
I think that the closest to official confirmation was back in One Piece yellow, which says Zoro is "like a first mate" and "a reliable presence." The same book also says Nami is "captain-like," though, so feel free to keep shouting variations on this arguments into each other's ears for the next few days.
>> No. 27475
The fuck is wrong with all of you, are you retarded? Clearly Usopp has always the Captain and Luffy is first mate

Yeah but when Nami scolds Luffy he just laughs and ignores her, but when Zoro does it, Luffy takes it seriously. That and Zoro is the second strongest crew member, which matters a lot in the one piece world.

>>27475
Does that mean that when Usopp and Luffy fought it was really a mutiny by the crew?

He was Luffy's first mate.
First Mate.

That's not how it works, sweetheart -- Contrary to your easy naming explanation. The reality of it is most pirate crews in the One Piece world don't have a first mate or even any semblance to real pirate crew structures. In fact, the only crew I can think of that had a titled first mate was Roger's. That's it.

From One Piece wiki's "Mythbusters" section.

While Zoro may be the closest member of the crew to fulfilling the role of "First Mate" his status as such is completely unofficial and based on fan conjecture.

He's simply the ship's swordsman and a member whose opinion Luffy is mroe prone to regarding.

The Red Hair, Buggy, Black Cat and Bellamy Pirates also had officially named first mates
>> No. 27489

Kidd and Law also both have a right-hand man. Blackbeard has Lafite. Whitebeard had Marco. Kuro had Jango. Even Foxy had two more important subordinates. I bet there's a lot more.

Those are all not officially named first mates, but they pretty much fulfill the functions of that role.
