My favorite thing about these recent chapters is that there is just SO MUCH CONTENT in them.

It felt like the end of the chapter at page 12, BUT NOPE. STILL MORE PAGES.

My knee-jerk first thought is that it was one of the admirals because they all have the same really-long-legs body shape but giving it actual thought that's a stretch.

If you watched the anime Impel Down arc it might have colored your perception of it since they sort-of...made him into one, but not really? Like, Luffy punches him and there's an Akainu-like "crater" of poison where the impact hit. It's a bit more clear in the manga since the important part of Logia abilities is that you have to be able to turn into your element. I mean, part of your body has to be completely gone and either replaced by the element, or it has to be regenerated from the element. He didn't do any logia-style recovering from bisection or severed limbs, either, which Oda seems to do as a HEY THIS GUY IS A LOGIA ALRIGHT sign.

I figured Magellan as a Paremecia was like Luffy: Luffy's body is always rubber, but its still a solid body. Magellan's body is always poison, but he still has a solid body. But maybe its more like Mr. 3, who excretes wax only when he needs it.

>If you watched the anime Impel Down arc it might have colored your perception of it since they sort-of...made him into one, but not really?

No, it's not really not really. The anime didn't add anything to his powers that Oda didn't. He sprouts streams of poison from his body. He uses them as a shield, as a whip, to propel himself and "fly" at his enemies, and as a gun. We never saw his physical body disappear.

>>26537
What would Gin be doing in an ex-government research laboratory working with a mad scientist? I'm also hesitant to say it's that "Joker" person because Caesar was talking to him via phone asking for permission to attack and waiting for replies -- meaning this Joker person is off on some other island working for the World Government, not in the basement.

Oh god, the attack called Gas Tank where Caesar claps to make an explosion is actually Caesar snapping a castanet at him, and it's called "Gastanet." This pun is so terrible that I can't even believe it, and this is Oda we're talking about.

>You're an awful human being.

to be fair it's no big deal. The anime's animation and pacing are poor. It's only worth a look for voices, color, battles and the ost.

also no more ending themes. fuck that G
>> No. 26548
>>26546

When the anime got rid of EDs it also slowly started becoming more poorly paced and lower quality in general. Coincidence... OR SOMETHING MORE!?!?!?!? Something more. Both are symptoms of cost cutting resulting from the anime staff realizing they didn't have to be good to be popular anymore, compounded by the anime approaching the manga. This combination of factors made adding huge fuckoff recaps and a one-chapter-one-episode pace the smart business choice, since it allowed them to avoid both paying writers and storyboarders to create filler and losing money from going on hiatus.

I would call Arlong Park to the end of Alabasta, ignoring filler, legit good, though. Like, not even just "a good adaptation."
>> No. 26549

I can't agree more. I appreciate the excellent voice work and BGM, but definitely fails to live up to the manga's standards. With that said, it is still one of the better Shonen Jump anime, honestly.

How many "mystery characters" are currently in play? So far I count:

Guy from cover story drinking with Crocus.
World Gov. Official talking to Doflamingo.
Guy that knocked out Law/Luffy.

Who else?
>> No. 26559
>>26558
Maybe the guy that Doflamingo was talking to is Joker. He has ties to Mingo, and Mingo's jolly roger is somewhat similar to Law's. Whatever; that's my headcanon until Oda proves me wrong.

Maybe the reason Law went down is because he's somehow linked to Luffy. Heart swap? When Luffy went down Law did too.

>> No. 26572

The giants from Jaya were just the shadows of Skypeians that became huge, Brocken Spectre style. Luffy even made a shadow of his own at the end of the arc.

The thriller bark monster is something different and unexplained.

I doubt it's Doflamingo, just because now both he and Law are shichibukai. I imagine they must've interacted at least once since Law gained his new status so the big reveal this chapter would be moot. But then again, we don't know what Doflamingo's been up to these last two years so anything is possible.

Could it be Vegapunk? Maybe he's come back to his old outpost to sort out this ruckus! I do like the notion that Law is a genius scientist/surgeon who takes after his father.

Favorite part of this chapter: Smoker and Tashigi just sittin' back and going "wow" at Luffy's curb-stomp (while it lasted).

I'm not sure if I would count the World Gov official that you mentioned as a person rather than a whole group/collective. I imagined it was the world elders who gave Doflamingo the order to take out Moria than it being just one person.

Probably this.
For some reason as soon as the smallest cockroach shows up in a panel, people automatically start throwing out insane theories about how the cockroach is gonna be a villain or the next nakama. Sometimes Oda just puts one-time things in there; why shouldn't he? Putting this "there's more to the area than you thought" spin twist on it is an old narrative that's fun and right down Oda's alley.

I myself thought they may have been somehow tied to Big Mom (as related to Lola), but Lola is fine on Water 7. What were they? Well, that's the mystery of the Florian Triangle.

Feels like saying that here we have an antagonist who is not only a Logia but a gas user. Poison is just one posible effect of gas because, well, there are fucking lots of diferents gas. Feel like this is a sleeping gas kind. That's some of the reasons his powers are superior to Magellan
