When the anime got rid of EDs it also slowly started becoming more poorly paced and lower quality in general. Coincidence... OR SOMETHING MORE!?!?!?!? Something more. Both are symptoms of cost cutting resulting from the anime staff realizing they didn't have to be good to be popular anymore, compounded by the anime approaching the manga. This combination of factors made adding huge fuckoff recaps and a one-chapter-one-episode pace the smart business choice, since it allowed them to avoid both paying writers and storyboarders to create filler and losing money from going on hiatus.
I would call Arlong Park to the end of Alabasta, ignoring filler, legit good, though. Like, not even just "a good adaptation."
