EXCUSE ME

Godzilla - Official Teaser Trailer [HD]youtube thumb

Personally I think this is a very suspect trailer. I really enjoy all the hazmat stuff I see, gives off the feel of an actual disaster movie. Not a disaster porn movie, but a DISASTER movie, with genuinely bad things happening to innocent people. That said I am disturbed by how very, very much this reminds me of the World War Z trailer.

Still got shivers during the Halo Jump though. That absolute devastation. . .

World War Z was actually good, it just had the misfortune of being called World War Z.

As for Godzilla I am mad sick pumped.

My only problem with WWZ (besides deviating so much from the book, but honestly, that was expected) was the weak ending, which unfortunately was the most problematic part of an already highly problematic production process.

And damn, dat teaser. I just hope the movie isn't a repeat of Cloverfield, with the Big G as a background disaster and the plot focused entirely in the tallking heads. People go to a Godzilla movie to see Godzilla, there is even a Trope named like that.

I'm aware you are probably short listing the name Godzilla, but Zilla is the official name of Godzilla 97 to prevent it from ever being thought canon as anything besides a humiliation, and for what just happened is why I wish they had chosen GINO instead much clearer. Godzilla In Name Only.

Here, the only two videos featuring Zilla worth watching and how history will remember the pile of shit.

I had the remote control hundred dollar GINO and the animated series is to this day among the best.

With that in mind, the damage done to Godzilla, Giant monsters, special effects, film and ESPECIALLY music is the worst.

For the few good toys and single season of a good animated series the damage done to CULTURE was not worth it.

It single handedly killed the entire giant monster movie genre off for 10 years, but don't take my word for it, ask Peter Jackson how much he hates this movie for holding King Kong back.

It gave Roland Emmerich more work.

It retroactively made Jurassic Park look like the devilish herald of a world where everything is CGI as well as being a rancid and shameless ripoff.

It is perhaps one of the most HEAVILY, DISGUSTINGLY sold out movies ever made, that should be clear somewhere around the Taco Bell dog barking at Godzilla.

And forming a correlation to that and how disgusting it is and ending on the damage done to music.

Jimmy. Page. and. Puffy. Daddy. Collaboration.

Was the genre even alive back then? Outside Japan, that's it. I don't recall watching any major thetrical releases involving giant monsters before the 90s Godzilla.

> It gave Roland Emmerich more work.
Emmrich was getting more work regardless of Godzilla, ID4 was simply too big.

> It retroactively made Jurassic Park look like the devilish herald of a world where everything is CGI as well as being a rancid and shameless ripoff.
Sorry, but you are talking out of your ass. Nobody thinks that of JP.

> It is perhaps one of the most HEAVILY, DISGUSTINGLY sold out movies ever made
Yeah, but there are plenty that are on the same level, and some that are even worse.

> Jimmy. Page. and. Puffy. Daddy. Collaboration.
And nobody gives a shit nowadays. The music sucked but it is not like it was a watermark on the industry and guided the style for years to come.

It's still a very good cartoon. And kind of an appropriate redemption from GINO. Way better than the Hanna-Barbera one. Even when that one had it's funny moments.

It didn't kill it, he damaged it severely, just ask Peter Jackson who had to wait a full 5 more years before he could green light King Kong due to that garbage.

Thus yes it did damage, though I will concede King Kong likely turned out far better for it and the improved technology though the fucking disgrace should always be treated as a shame; aside from the cartoon.

And you could not be more wrong, I've watched and read literally everything Godzilla and I've loved just about all of it; but Satsuma was right when he said it's not Godzilla, it doesn't have the spirit.

>> No. 39405
The main problem with King Kong is that Peter Jackson was too much of a fanboy. That may sound like a good thing at first, but Jackson obviously wanted to exapand everything from the original and revisit every scene with reverence and spend as much time "savoring" every bit of scenery and whatnot, and the pacing went to shit for it. Yes, the oldschool NY setting looked cool. No, you did not need to spend so much time on it at the beginning of the movie when every-fucking-body wanted to move to the murder island of horrors, and especially since later in the film we'd return to NY anyway.

Stargate inexplicably lucked into having an incredibly engaging and easily exploitable central conceit that was ready-made for a much larger franchise, and further lucked into being picked up by the goddamned Macgyver. The movie itself is dumb schlocky Chariots of the Gods-inspired nonsense as expected from Emmerich and his ilk, enjoyable with your brain switched off much like ID4 (which might well have benefited from a similar Macgyvering - there's a ton of fan material exploring ID4's aftermath).

If you look at the quality of Godzilla the Series as opposed to the wretchedness of Godzilla the Movie, this seems to be a weird pattern with Emmerich films.

Muto, as in a variation on mutant.

It's just a very western style name, contrasting that with King Caesar the only other western sounding name you mentioned it's got a Big'Ol "KING" slapped on there so you know where it's at.

Now again this is a western film so their is nothing wrong with a name like Muto but it need a little pump on it, you can't expect anyone to Scream "MUTO!!!" when he shows up like people do with Mothra and that's just "ra" tossed on the back of "Moth" yet it creates Godzilla levels of hype.

Needs a little Mutosuarus, Mutora, Megamut, Mutogon, Mutoking, etc.

All I said is I'd reinvent Battra so he was separate from Mothra, I didn't say it was because I disliked him, it's actually BECAUSE I like him.

He's only been in one movie despite being super popular and it's because he's a problem to write due to his yin/yang stuff.

If you bring Battra in you've gotta bring Mothra in and usually it's a Godzilla movie and usually that means their is already a monster fighting him.

It's lame when your monsters don't get enough focus, my plan was just to make Battra more portable if you know what I mean, just easier to use.

It all about how good you are at making shit up.

Hell I'd have them(m&b) be twins from the same eggs, all the time throughout history, reincarnated as the asexual spawned(from Mothra) magical guardians of earth working as a sword and shield combo.

Intill the more aggressiv sword gets sick of all the shit humans do now days and pisses off on his own quest, maybe joining the "evil" earth kaiju team.

Unless he gets killed the first time he shows up.
Again...

Redesigning them to look a little more similar would be nice too.

Word is up that the scene with the nuke in the trailer, is the Castle Bravo nuclear test, which in the movie's universe the "test" part was the official story of an attempt by the US goverment to destroy Godzilla in 1954.

Holy shit, this Godzilla took a 15MT Hydrogen bomb practically point blank and survived.

That thing was weaksauce, it didn't even destroy all the Meganulas with the blast. A 15MT nuke would have left the whole island a scorching pile of glass.

According to the leaked plot details (which must be taken with the provervial grain of salt), the skeleton is of another of Godzilla's species. Allegedly, that scene is where they find the Muto's eggs.

Was that a MUTO in one of the spots? Not much is seen, but it looks a bit different from the one in the toys.

OTOH, I do understand that there are two in the film (a male and a female) and they don't look exactly alike.

Hype engines are springing leaks, cap'n

>90% rehashed footage from the first trailer
>dat awful smoke/waves cgi, don't tell me it's just in post-production, may is like 20 days away
>why didn't they just use real smoke for the reactor leak
>yet another edit of Godzilla and then the Muto's leg coming down like it's Godzilla's leg what the what?

Major props for the heavily implied "Godzilla comes to eat a leaking nuclear reactor" plotline, though. Godzilla being a radiation munching monster is more interesting than Godzilla just stepping on a city because yolo.

That's a pretty normal occurence as trailers go.

> dat awful smoke/waves cgi, don't tell me it's just in post-production, may is like 20 days away
Don't be silly, it looked alright.

> why didn't they just use real smoke for the reactor leak
Dunno, perhaps they didn't manage to make it move like that.

> yet another edit of Godzilla and then the Muto's leg coming down like it's Godzilla's leg what the what?

He was able to compose music of a comparable nature to the Godzilla theme, one of the best themes ever. That's goddamn impressive.

Think along the lines of Alien, Jaws or Jurassic Park, where the movie teases and builds up to the reveal of the beast to avoid CGI fatigue. The director calls it "cinematic foreplay."

I hope that doesn't backfire on the movie, the " Just Here for Godzilla " trope is called like that for a reason. I mean, I know a ton of people that got pissed off at Cloverfield because you barely saw the monster. The payoff has to be HUGE for the buildup.

Why must Godzilla movies always have to focus on the puny humans so much?

This is one of the big reasons that the Michael Bay Transformers movies sucked.

The original film had Godzilla only making landfall twice, once for his fifteen-minute rampage and then once more when they use the Oxygen Destroyer. Much of the film was focused on the human suffering in the aftermath and wondering just how they were going to stop this thing. Two hours of Godzilla smashing things non-stop would be boring if we didn't see some consequences.

Also, this movie has the benefit of not being a found-footage flick.

Still more than what we're getting with this

Times have changed. People want to see the monster wrecking shit, not generic disaster movie character cliche whining about his family or personal failings.

And you're certain of this how? Ninety-plus minutes of constant action gets boring really fast. The best monster movies have tension and build-up.

Also, having really well-designed sets helps too. Note the lack of green screen.

People are bad at identifying exactly what they don't like about things. It's very easy to misattribute your dissatisfaction to superficial issues rather than the true causes. For example, people say they didn't like Cloverfield because you barely saw the monster. In reality, people don't like Cloverfield because it was a FUCKING TERRIBLE FUCKING MOVIE.

Reddit has confirmed at least 20-30 minutes of the big man. It's following the basic Godzilla movie structure of sprinkling him here and there before letting him take the spotlight in the third act.

People seriously seem to have no idea of just how little Godzilla appears in his own movies compared to the human plot. This isn't some new thing, literally every major Godzilla film has had a large focus on humanity dealing with him and trying to survive or stop his bullshit. Even Godzilla: Final Wars, a movie known for having more giant monster fights than every other film in the series, spends more time on the Earth Defense Force dealing with the Xilliens, than Big G himself.

So, there are some reviews out. The consensus seems to be that:

A) Bryan Cranston was good, and the movie would have benefited greatly if he was the main character.

B) Aaron Taylor sucks ass, and he brings down the general quality of the film

C) the first third of the film actually spuns a nice mystery, but the second act doesn't really do anything with that, and nobody cares anymore when shit finally hits the fan.
