Think of it as an alternate reality where Hannibal during his days as a psychiatrist works much closer with the FBI and Will Graham in particular as they attempt to catch other super deranged serial killers while Hannibal is copycatting many of their crimes to cover his tracks, it sounds a little monster of the week but there is WAAAAAY more going on.

Will Graham in this is FUCKING FASCINATING and massively fucked up.

Bryan Fuller does this show? Is it funny/charming and quirkily morbid, like if Tim Burton had talent?

Lets say his style is of a similar and arguable more enjoyable nature and yes, Hannibal is definitely a Fuller work but with a much greater seriousness than his previous work.

I was being glib for the sake of pithiness. I've actually enjoyed some of Tim Burton's work quite a bit. But I feel like he gets more credit than he deserves (for example, getting credit for Nightmare Before Christmas despite doing almost nothing on it, and getting credit for the rest of Henry Selick's work solely because of Nightmare Before Christmas), and I think he is one of the people who overrates himself.

I'm a big fan of Bryan Fuller, though. Pushing Daisies and Dead Like Me were two of my favorite shows of the past few decades, and Heroes was way better when he was still working on it.

You mean besides writing the poem it was based on, doing the concept art and storyboards, and co-writing the script? Just because he didn't direct it doesn't mean he just slapped his name on the project.

None of this has anything to do with this thread. Take your complaints about an entirely unrelated guy to the general thread, please.

So, I marathon-ed the show earlier in the week and watched the finale today.

I've red two of the books (Red Dragon and Silence of the Lambs) and watched three of the movies (Red Dragon, Silence of the Lambs, and Hannibal), and I have to say...

This show is better. It's so much better than in the books (while still paying homage to them) and a helluva lot better than the movies. Everything about this show is so well executed that even the scenes of dismemberment and gore feel very eloquent. I just really love this show, and it had me hooked from the first episode.

I like that this show is very smart yet also very clear without having to talk down to you. It proves that you can still be creative and intelligent and not be forced to twist what you've made to be more easily consumable for the wider audience.

I love Hannibal's cooking segments and how he keeps his trophies of everyone he kills? It feels weird to see him work with human organs and then think "Wow, this looks delicious" by the time he's done with it. I don't think the casting could have been more perfect. Honestly, I didn't think much of Mads Mikkelsen before this show, as I only saw him in Casino Royale, and didn't really like that movie, but watching this show really shows off a very well-honed talent. I also thought Lawrence Fishbourne used to be really good, but lost his chops in more recent films (I really didn't think he was all that great in predators), but now I see I was wrong. I don't think I heard of (Or at least saw anything with him in it) Hugh Dancy before this.

Just every aspect of this is a well crafted show. It makes me wish Bryan Fuller was doing Game of Thrones, oddly enough.

i really want this showto do super well because 1 from what ive seen its awesome (granted ive only seen two episodes) and 2 i really dont want bryan fuller to become the next joss whedon, doomed to have a bunch of brilliant, canceled shows.

Freddie is SUCH A GREAT CHARACTER. I kinda want her to go on the run with Will next season. The prospect of revealing such a huge frame up would be really enticing to a journalist like her. Also I just think it would be hilarious if the two of them had to get along in a confined space for hours on end.
I love that Fuller could have kept all the characters the same genders they were in the books and it still would have been a good if sausagey show. But he put in more ladies! And Alana rejects Will but she isn't vilified! And Bedelia is SCARY! And ABIGAIL perfect fragile invincible murder princess of my heart, pardon my tumblr vomit I can't help it. And Beverly is just great oh my god.

Is that a person? Ah sorry, should have explained. I said "invincible" because 1) I'm not convinced she's dead and 2) if she is, she'll live on in Freddie's probably insane book. The "veal" thing was obviously supposed to make us think that Hannibal killed her. Wouldn't surprise me at all if he did, but it could be a red herring. Why haven't we seen a body, for instance? I'm hoping that the end of season 2 or 3 will have Hannibal brought to trial, and that's when Abigail will come back as a witness. If she's alive. Which she probably isn't. I can dream.
