Fans aren't going to like the Mandarin, but I enjoyed this movie more than the second one.

I haven't see it yet but I can't see that being a problem, it's way more acceptable here than it was with say, Bane.

Also the predominately Gold armor was a poor design choice.

>the predominately Gold armor was a poor design choice
I think it was to make the armor more recognizable. There's a point where you see multiple armors and it's somewhat important to know it's this one.

Keep wondering if that was Partly because it operated largely as a single entity but now we've gotten to the point were this is a shared comic universe and its only getting bigger. Its a very Impressive feat to try and make a whole Cinematic Universe akin to what DC had/has? with the Animated Universe.

Sorry Iron Man 3, some fun times and all, but I can't give you more than a 6 out of 10, I'm afraid. And this largely ignoring comparisons to the comic.

Yeah, that bit was a pretty rough slap in the face.
Over all, I have to say that it didn't quite follow the thematics of the first two films. Good follow up to Avengers, I will give it that, but it didn't have the clean bleeding edge tech feel of the previous movies.
And that was what I associated Iron Man with. Felt a little more like a Hulk movie starring Tony Stark.

I actually really enjoyed that twist. And in the end, we still have an antagonist who felt closer to a comic book supervillain than the big bads in 1 and 2: Exceptionally intelligent, skilled fighter, weird-ass powers that result from advanced technology, a twisting and nefarious plot for world conquest. Though I didn't really get how he started down the path of that last one...

Honestly, movie Mandarin is my second favorit take on it after Gene Khan.
Mostly for being a smart and "fun" twist.
And it is better then say a green satam cartoon villain that yells and points alot or a naked asian chick possessed by a super ghost that get beaten by Tony making her belive in herself or something stupid like that.
Plus I can see "plot gaps" where they can slot in a more classic take.
Maybe the Makluan will show up in Guardians of the Galaxy, who knows.

One of the things that ground my gears was that the president didn't face ANYTHING for his dirty business with Roxxon. He didn't step down, apologize, get taken down or punished in any way.
Then again, I always thought about that as something that should happen in a Captain America movie.

Alright lets counter point this fuck!
*cracks fingers piano style*
1) Good point! Igor/Hulkbuster should have been bust out of that.
But I guess fucking rubble blocks the signal or more likely they did not want to tip their hand to early, even if they put it in the trailer.
2) Man, I am trying my hardest not to point out how you sound like my mom.
She has a MASSIVE hateboner for that shit.
I dont mind. Just look around yourselfs, tons for products, thats just our world.
Thats why I dont like it when movie set in "our world" dont lets say uses a real video game and instead fake one with cgi. I takes me out, do to nerdness.
3) Again good point, is that not what the fucking visor is for?
4) WAR ECONOMY!
And you get alot of money when you sell both sides and the more powerfull one being okay with that do togiving his dauther a new leg, loved that shot.
But then like alot off super villains he lost his shit when thing did not go as planed.
5) Because pepole got mad at the Hobbit for being to long so they cut out ALOT of stuff may?(fells like that to me)
Stuff that would fix some of your issues.
But no, cant have a 3 hour plus movie now can we?
Hope they make LotR style extra all version.
But that is no excuses for that ending.
No more Burning Pepper? Fuck that, we need more female hero in this, hell we need more female MAIN villains but no, bang, gone, moving on. BAH.
And if the rumors are true, then I am calling that Tony will be the Agent Coulson of Avangers 2.

Marvel Studios are being cheap bastards again:

>The issue going forward is how many of the Avengers stars and starlets are still bound by early agreements and longterm options which Marvel can continue to exploit individually. To counter, I’ve learned the Avengers cast are becoming united behind Robert Downey Jr who is seen as the “leader” – like “a big brother” in the words of one rep - for all the younger actors in the ensemble. “He’s the only guy with real power in this situation. and balls of steel, too. He’s already sent a message that he’s not going to work for a place where they treat his colleagues like shit,” one source explains.

Yea it made just over 600 Million in the US and around 888 Million in the Foreign Market and that is not even counting Media Sales. so yea considering what goes into their roles 500k is a bit of a short change for a movie that grossed about 1.5 Billion. I do like that RDJ is leading the charge to get them their fair shake in this.

I mean even after Film budgeting that would leave around a billion dollars after Marketing I think, I forget if marketing is averaged as twice or half the cost of production.

Honestly as someone who loved Iron Man before the movies (started with backissues of O'Niel's run and the 90s cartoon when I was a kid) I was so excited when I heard about the Ten Rings in 1. I knew what it was building up to.

I like the Mandarin. I think it goods hands he's as good as Dr. Doom or Magneto or the Red Skull. Hell Tony's villains were kind of cool in ArmoreAdventures (I wish the comics used that Whiplash and Blizzard). The yellow menace charge kind of falls flat when Mandarin hasn't been a stereotype in decades. Thats like saying Red Skull is offensive for being a Nazi when he ditched the uniform for a suit and tie in the 80s.

Actually most of AA's designs are better than their current ones. Except for scrawny dirty Ghost, when I think about it. I loved Blizzard basically using Mr. Freeze's backstory to fuck with Tony. I did hate their version of the Melter though. Especially when the movie game had a cool design.

I know Firepower was in the movie. I think Stane was really the only great villain of the trilogy. Jeff Bridges was fantastic. Kind of wish they stuffed a chessboard in his office as a nice little nod but I was happy with what we got. Vanko wasn't really played up as much as he should have been, Hammer was a joke. As for 3, I don't think the Mandarin was needed since they pulled a Bane with him. Killian really wasn't that great either, considering his motivation.

Oh well. I have to say, ten years ago I'd never believe they'd make an Iron Man movie, let alone that it would launch a universe. It's had its ups and downs and as a fan of the Avengers in general, I'm happy. Plus the movie was at least ok, could have better, but its not the worst thing to happen to the character. That honor would have to go to The Crossing.

So favorite armor?

See, when you say "Cosmic Entities" or "Space Gods", one can tell they're big shit. You know there's stuff out there beyond human understanding.

When you say "Space Gods who created mankind, also the only reason why there are mutants is why they programmed it to happen", that kinda kills the mystery a bit, messes up the concept of genetic mutation and also removes the chances that things "just happened". Might be a pet peeve of mine, because I simply don't like the concept. Kinda like with Thor, the whole movie could have gone without the "lol our magic is just SCIENCE! way beyond your understanding" and it wouldn't lose anything.

Well damn it's Prometheus all over again.

Their cast is so large already. Crossovers work better with characters who have small casts in their universe.

I wasn't aware Mandarin purists were even a thing before Iron Man 3.

Every character, no matter how lame they are, has a few fans at least. I likehim. The white washing didn't bother me as much. I was happy Mandarin was in. Then that twist came and I wonder why they even bothered adding him

Probably so they could actually surprise comic book fans. I read an interview with the writer where he said that, as he sees it, "The Mandarin" is a mantle passed down to various terrorist leaders over many generations, and that, in this case, AIM co-opted the name for their own purposes. So the "real" Mandarin could show up later in the series without conflicting with what had already been shown, he said.

Was the bombing of the Chinese theatre intentional (as in they gave the Extremis soldier a bum dose) or accidental like what some of the Mandarin bombings were?

So in essence, they didn't think a damn thing through then.

I....fail to see your logic.

The Mandarin is one of the most offensive characters in Marvel just by existing. He represents fear of the "yellow peril" and exoticism of Asian culture.

We're just so damned used to it that it doesn't offend us.

Well, not really. He had a bunch of contemporary Cold War villains from Russia which held pretty well later on, too. If Marvel wasted a decent enough concept and specifically avoided keeping a chinese villain around just because he's from China, couldn't that be wrong, too?

Also not sure, but wasn't he a bit reimagined as an unscrupulous business billionaire in the regular comics too?

It's not that he's from China, it's that he's basically Fu Manchu, and the Fu Manchu character is more or less the asian equivalent of blackface.
