So I saw Into Darkness. While it is enjoyable (the action scenes look amazing whenever they step back and let you actually look at them and Crumbserbatch was just as hardcore as we all knew he would be), it has some problems. The plot bounces around multiple times and has an awful lot of telling without showing, especially when it comes to Cramsabunch's backstory and exactly how the Klingons are relevant to the plot. There are also like fifty callbacks to classic Trek, especially Wrath of Khan, and, while I'm sure opinions will differ on this, I found it a little distracting.
I was very underwhelmed by the Klingons in this movie. When I heard them say the word "Kronos," I got really excited to see how epic the reboot would make the Klingons, quite possibly the most iconic Trek race, but all we got was a decent areal chase, a half-baked reveal, and a short firefight. Admiral Forgettable talks bout how war with the Klingons is coming and how the Federation is in serious danger, especially considering the events of the movie, but that gets shot in the foot by the epilogue taking place [i]one year later with no indication of any development. Abrams, I expected a lot more from you.[/spoiler]
