Is it weird the thing I'm most excited for in an Ant-Man movie is potentially seeing Wasp? She's adorable.

Not sure how the fuck she'd even work considering the mess Edgar Wright (I love him, but come on) is making.

"Hank Pym became Ant Man in the 50s, and half the movie is about that, then it moves over to Scott Lang being the star, who steals the suit and gear from a now-old Pym!"

So... would Wasp be, like, Lang's partner? Or is she old in the present too? Or just not there period?

Dammit, Edgar... wtf.

I like it that some of these logos aren't just a bunch of metallic letters.

Also Thor 2 is earlier than I expected, and GotG is before captain America 2. Are they going for about 2 movies a year?

Wasn't Janet Hank's Kid Sidekick before she was his wife? If he worked solo for a while before taking her on, she could still be reasonably young. It'd be quite a May/December romance if she was still his wife, but I guess they could rearrange it so Movieverse Janet is Hank's protege, and comes into conflict with Scott because of her loyalty to Pym.

Pym had a wife before Janet if I recall, and Janet just ends up looking like her in a weird coincidence....there's material to work with to make it work with the weird timescale involved, but it's going to require a lot of rewrites obviously, and is going to end up not looking like the story we saw in the comics. But distilling the story is what these movies do, so I guess it's not such a big deal.
>> No. 34225

>But distilling the story is what these movies do,

No, distilling the story is what the other movies do. Wright is essentially doing the opposite of the others. He's even trying to put both Pym and Lang in as Ant Man.

Now I loved Rhodey's various stints as Iron Man (the O'Neil issues were phenomenal), but it would have been a REALLY stupid idea to try and make an Iron Man movie starting with Tony as Iron Man, set in the past, then passing it on to Rhodey.

So, between the title of "The Dark World" and the macguffin du jour in the first movie being the Casket of Ancient Winters, I'm guessing the villain of Thor 2 is going to be Malekith, then?

Although I suppose Perrikus, or even Zarrko the Tomorrow Man would fit that title.
---

I don't know how much I'm in favour of Cap's second movie being the Winter Soldier storyline. I mean it worked alright in the comics, despite once and for all showing that no one will ever stay dead in comics ever, more thoroughly than any story before it. But making Bucky a villain so early I think probably weakens the impact of it.

Yeah, but there's going to have to be distillation as well. There's just too much content for there not to be distillation, even if he tries to cram too much in there on top of it.

That said, I've got faith in Edgar Wright. I fucking loved his adaptation of Scott Pilgrim--liked it better than the comics, in fact. I'm fairly sure he can make something I'm going to enjoy watching, whether or not anyone with any goddamned sense would've made the same choices.

Oh please. When a writer is demanding that two different people be the main superhero and throws the concept of "sliding timescale" out the window, I don't think it's at all fair to say there's distillation going on. He's trying to have as much as possible because he's a Lang fan first and foremost. He's trying to cram in too much.

>>4232
>Can that just use the cartoon take?
No.

Pym's just getting screwed again. He got screwed out of being in the Avengers because Wright took too damn long to get anything at all done, and he's getting screwed out of even being in the same age group as the other Avengers now that it looks like his movie might (MIGHT) actually happen after all. And when I say "his movie" I mean Lang's movie that will have some Pym in it so that Lang can steal Pym's shit like how Wright remembers it. sigh.

According to Jim Hill Media, Disney wants another Hulk movie, but Marvel isn't so sure because of how the past two films underperformed. They also don't want to overexpose Hulk with the live action show in the works and the upcoming animated series for Disney XD.

Disney "XD" indeed.

You know, I'm not sure exactly what it would take to get a Hulk movie right. Personally I'd have kept his actual origin, have less focus on the "Beauty and the Beast" style romance thing (come on, not that many people go to a Hulk movie hoping for daddy issues or romance, we want smashing!), would have kept the "Hulk smash puny army" routine simply because they're too stupid to leave him alone (more like the first movie)... oh yeah, also add Rick Jones.
Also, definitely use Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner. They really got it right with this one. I'm not sure about which Hulk CGI would be cool, the one in Avengers reminded me of Grawp from Harry Potter a bit.

Still, i'm curious how Wright's going to handle Ant-Man. Personally, if he was going to make a Marvel movie, I think he'd be more apt at directing the Deadpool movie. But then, Marvel probably won't include the Deadpool movie in their main film canon.

Basically he wants Scott Lang to be Ant-Man. He said he wanted to do it with Pym being Ant-Man in the sixties, Scott Lang stealing his equipment and becoming Ant-Man in the present.

Also, I'm glad to see I'm not the only that thinks that's kinda bullshit. Why do we have to have Scott Lang in the Avengers? Can't we just have Hank Pym?

I believe Anon's point is not whether or not it's technically accurate to use the term, but rather whether or not using it gives the right impression.

Technically Ant Man will have to be a distillation, yes, but since it honestly does sound like Wright is trying to cram far too much into the movie out of love for the lesser-known currently-dead Ant Man, use of the term "distillation" is extremely misleading.

It seems to be a scenario where Wright knows damn well that the Ant Man movie has to be about Pym, so he's doing a whole thing about Pym, but he actually wants the movie to be about Scott Lang, because the first comic he remembers reading had Lang in it, so he's trying to put that in too. And we're getting two movies in one.

My personal hope is that, since the last time we got an update, someone sat Wright down and went "Edgar... no. Just no."

Basically there's this misfit band of aliens, led by a human that's a master-strategist, excellent combatant, and kinda sick of this shit, and they guard the galaxy. From anything and everything. They just keep their eyes and ears peeled.

Basically, over the years, Marvel built up a lot of alien characters (either invading earth or showing up in books set in space, like Silver Surfer). GotG is "what if we put together a bunch of the misfits, just this seriously dysfunctional team, and have them fight just about everything.

* Peter Quill/Starlord - Human combatant with just this ridiculous affinity for space shenanigans. He was born for this.

* Rocket Racoon - Little dude, big guns

* Groot - Big tree.

* Drax - A man biologically altered to be the ultimate weapon when it comes to killing Thanos (Marvel's biggest Space villain)

* Gamora - Thanos' daughter, the ultimate fighter, the deadliest woman in the universe, sorta like Black Widow if her martial arts were so uber she could kill Superman-types with them

So yeah, no Phyla or Moondragon. GYP.

Agreed but DC doesn't have anyone with any clue how to actually work that kinda movie. Warner Bros barely gives two shits about the DC Stable and is operating on the old saw of superhero films that made money in the past and will take little effort to get the public enthused about the character. While on the flip of that Marvel is actively putting their cast in shows to get people informed about who the fuck they characters actually are.

"Hey we made a cartoon so people will finally know who the Green Lanterns are and the next movie will actually work."

"Nope we must kill it because the reception of the film showed that nobody wants to see a Green Lantern film."

"But it will work this time because now people will know more about them."

"Pfft.that is too much a risk..I'm gonna go cuddle with my Batman security blanket."

Warner Bros owns DC for fucking decades and barely uses the damn thing. Disney acquires Marvel and under Five years is pumping money into making films nobody ever thought would see the light of day.

No, he just died the first time. Whedon was telling the truth when he said, over and over that Coulson died. The Coulson in the show looks to be a LMD.

Wait, is that confirmed or just fanon? All I got from watching the show was that there was definitely something up about his survival/resurrection/"resurrection", but they didn't seem to specify what.

>In its comic book and cinematic incarnations, S.H.I.E.L.D. is staffed by skilled personnel, but helmed by the ultra-charismatic -- and ultra-dangerous -- Nick Fury, and for good reason. The game is one of epic heroes and villains, of larger-than-life characters who compete with outrageous, godlike force -- not to mention Kirby Krackle! Although Fury, like Batman and Bond, has no superpowers, he is clearly suprahuman: irresistible, indomitable, invincible. And Agent Coulson, with his Rudy Giuliani aplomb, is no Fury. (Actually, he could take a few attitude lessons from Samuel L. Jackson.)

>And speaking of Jackson, the SHIELD opener would have benefited immensely from a 15-second cameo or even a damn phone call from Jackson's Fury. (Hell, I would have bought everybody drinks for a quickie Paste-Pot Pete appearance or even a walk-on by Stan Lee!) Even more disappointing was that the show had no menace, no tension. A month or so ago, during a conversation with Loeb, he categorized the series as "S.H.I.E.L.D. meets The X-Files." Great premise, but barely in evidence. SHIELD needs to be much tougher, much stranger, much edgier to reach its potential!

Coulson went to Valhalla and the Asgard dudes were like, "hey lets make him one of us since he's a really awesome guy".

Biggest problem is the self deprecating comic references. Its shit like that is the reason the public have crap opinions of DC heroes.

All those butthurt comments.

Christ I'd pay to see a Steranko SHIELD movie or tv show.

It's a show by Joss Whedon based on a mega-popular Joss Whedon movie. You knew what you were getting into when you signed up.

Careful or you'll awake the rabid Whedon defense force that tried to dismiss even legitimate criticisms of the Avengers movie as autism or butthurt.
