What's up with this movie trying to push the idea that Kristen Stewart is "fairer" than Charlize Theron?

They meant paler. She's paler than Theron.

So I'm not the only person that mistook part of the film for Joan of Arc?

well she is undead now.

This.

That said, I thought this movie was going to be a LOT worse than it was. Like, it wasn't good, but it wasn't that bad either. The action was okay, and I really liked the dwarfs. They didn't utilize their time well though and maybe tried to shoe in a bit too much, but I was pleasantly surprised with the Arthurian and Celtic themes that sprang up. The Christian ones didn't surprise me since I went in with the impression of "Snow White, but she's also Joan of Arc."

It also looks like Kristen Stewart's acting is somewhat improving as she actually manages to make expressions beyond "dull surprise." Her delivery is still awkward as fuck. Like, everyone else was pretty good in their roles except for maybe Bob Hoskins who phoned that shit in like he was on the other side of the world. I was pleased to see Nick Frost and that one guy who I like in every movie he's in but never remember his name. He was the dwarf with the dark curly hair. The other dwarfs were pretty good too.

Overall, there were some good qualities to this movies, so it wasn't irredeemable. It's a pretty good watch if you just feel like psyching yourself for the Hobbit (as this move made me want to see the Hobbit even more for some reason) and don't feel like re-watching LotR.

YES! HIM! Why can I never remember his name? He's such a cool dude.

It's based on the old fairy tales by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm, which where heavy in christian lore because that was just life to most people in that region and era.
The films problem, aside from Stewart's teeth, is that it tries to compile too much mysticism from the tales, which where meant as standalone pieces. Makes the magic seem convoluted and random instead of mysterious and dark.

Just watched this today with my dad, and yeah, those mildly christian overtones.
Not a bad film, but it could have been better if this was spliced in two movies. The pace is very fast, and it had the chance to flesh out better the characters, specially Messiah White.
We also could have get a better background for the characters: Raveena's rise to power, how Eric met and lost her wife, more of Will's and Snow White's childhood, etc.

I also liked Eric a lot, he had a lot of character although the whole thing of Finn killing her wife was pretty out of nowhere.
The dwarfs where awesome too, and they deserved more screen time.

Was a fun movie. Nice backgrounds, amazing armory, good soundtrack (loved the dwarves' forest music). Charlize Theron is one of my favorite evil queens, now.

In contrast, could use less shaky camera, unnecessary CGI that didn't work, unnecessary love triangle thingy I guess (that was a given though, made for chicks or something... oh well), I think they never explained why the "spell is broken" (we know because we knew the story), and "THE CHOSEN ONE" crap I just cannot stand.

Also that bridge troll felt like a random encounter out of nowhere, but whatever.

Yeah... I kinda resigned since this one was called "Snow White and the Huntsman". Still alright.

Comic is relevant to this bit of conversation.

Well, that was supposed to show she was one with the land. It was a bit of an Arthurian/Celtic thing happening where the rightful ruler IS the land, and when the ruler does well, the land does well, etc. Basically, as the troll was a part of the land, it recognized that he was a part of her and vice versa.

I liked how they tried to incorporate all of that, even if the execution wasn't great.

Or like The Lion King, lol. I'm more of a fan of Tolkien-style kings, but I guess at least the scene had an excuse, then.

I'm just guessing. It wasn't all that necessary though, since we had like, 12 other scenes that did the Ruler and their Land connection. Also, the scene with the Hart in Fairy-land, while visually cool, had little point as well. They really, really, wanted us to see the connection to the land and end up bashing us over the head with it.

Yep, that scene felt kinda unnecessary and over-the-top to me, too. Aside from some of the CGI, it was gorgeous though.
(Still think it would be way better if they resorted to the same effects as in Legend and the like for the fairies. We didn't even need to see their faces, necessarily.)

Kristen Stewart cheated on Robert Pattinson with the director of Snow White and the Huntsman and now Twilight fans are outraged:

I bit my lower lip when I read about it.

Heh and I just watched Fillmore! The Unseen Reflection which is about psychotic fans and their pain in particular fans of a Vampire Novel series as well for those that have not seen it. Wonder if we get some mass burnings of material out of this.

HA HA HA! If true that fan rage just went over the now customary number response indicating very high levels of power.
