I thought we could have a thread for all the films, that came out this year, recent films and stuff. A thread for them, if they recently came out or coming out.

I'll start this thread, with some of the most promising films of the year, Paul Thomas Anderson's The Master.

The Master - Official Teaser Trailer 2 [HD]youtube thumb

It just looks.... incredible. The acting, Phoenix does crazy brillantly, and the back and forth between Hoffman and Phoenix is incredible. And just the cinematography, those brillant, subtle shots.

Dredd Exclusive Trailer Debut [HD]youtube thumb

Looks intresting, but I don't know if I'm in the mood for a uber-serious Judge Dredd, and it looks like a generic action film.

People say it looks like Raid..and it kinda does cept with Joe Dredd. Its missing the satire that makes Dredd something unique instead of stupidly gritty. That and the costumes are even worse than the '90s version.

At least they know to use the costumes.

I'm referring to covering up Dredd's face.

Django Unchained - Official Trailer (HD)youtube thumb

Seems intresting, but I don't know if you can take Tarantino's style and apply it to a western blaxoption-esque film, and it might just look like a actioner to me. But DiCaprio looks great in this.

The Great Gatsby Trailer Offic…youtube thumb

Big Baz fan, so I'm pretty pumped. The cast, the setting, the cinematrography looks great, and Luhrman seems set to deliver a extrangaza, something epic, although I hope he keeps the inherit litertatuness of the story in here.

Argo Official Trailer [HD]: Be…youtube thumb

Affleck, after proving himself as a director with the critical darlings The Town and Gone Baby Gone, ditches cops and robbers with Argo, and again, is in the director's seat and the actor's chair. This one looks fantastic, I just hope Affleck's ready to hit hard.

Rubin Fleischer stuck gold, with Zombieland, but with 30 Minutes or Less, and now he's going for dramatic territory. And I think he's going to fail, hard. I'm sorry, but this looks terrible, self-indulgent performances, bland cinematrography, cheesy dialogue that feels too self-aware, and a Jay-Z rap number over a 1920s setting.

Sorry, for not posting link for GS, http://youtube.com/watch?v=YGK0ysEPHxI.

Looper looks fucking amazing. It seems to be promising the great excution that it's great concept needs, and looks like a sharp action-thriller.

Flight Traileryoutube thumb

Zemeckis returns to live-action after the diasters that were The Polar Express, and A Christmas Carol, with Flight. Doesn't look that special, the aerial sequences look good, but it looks to be a generic "human drama" with some great, not fantastic performances. Goodman looks to be terrible in this.

New James Bond, and this looks very promising. Unlike QoS, this one looks to be more than "The Bond Idenity" and be it's own thing, and it just leaves me hooked for what's in store.

ANNA KARENINA - Official Trailer (2012) [HD]youtube thumb

Wow, this film looks incredible. The shots, the acting, the dialogue, the setting, wow. If it just felt like I watched a full film from the trailer alone, I can't wait to see the whole of this.

Looks like safe, generic Oscar Bait stuff, with performances that don't have any energy to them, just performanced with a sense of generic "whimsy" to them. Bill Murray doesn't even look that good in it.

This looks to be capturing the threatical feels of the musical verisions of LM, and from the trailer, it seems to look to succeed. And it looks just big, promising and epic, although it would be nice to get more of the cast.

THE HOBBIT Trailer 2012 - Official [HD]youtube thumb

Dunno. I want this film to have it's own feel than the LoTR trilogy, and it looks to deliver the same epic feel those films do, and seems to want to capture the feelings of the huge cast that the LoTR films did.

This Is 40 - Official Trailer [HD]youtube thumb

Looks great. There was some parts that made me cringe, but it seems to want to deliver the same premise that KO took, where that film focuses on a growing relationship, TIF focuses on a stale one, and the 2 main cast members seem good.

Between this and Fantastic Mr. Fox, why the fuck have I not watched a Wes Anderson movie before? I love his style. Also Bruce Willis and Bill Murray in the same fucking movie holy shit.

Fantastic Mr. Fox, BFG, and Matilda are the only Roald Dahl adaptions I've liked. I haven't seen Charlie and The Chocolate Factory, so I can't comment on it. But I just...Willy Wonka never totally clicked for me. It's not a bad film, just a bit hyped up and too far away from the source material.

>Charlie and The Chocolate Factory ... Willy Wonka

Dude... there's just no comparison. The key is in the difference in titles. "Charlie and" was the story about Charlie, the kid, and how wonderous the Chocolate Factory was to his child's eyes. "Willy Wonka and" was about him — or more exactly, Johnny Depp — and his wacky... err... Depp-ness. Oh, there's no doubt that Gene Wilder in the original movie was a powerful character (and weird in a different sense), but they were careful to not let HIM overpower the real main character: Charlie.

But honestly, the original movie is a freaking CLASSIC, and probably better than the book. You should definately take some time to watch it, at least once.

(Oh, and James and The Giant Peach...? That. Movie. Never. Happened.)

I loved James and The Giant Peach as a kid. And I think my love of the book was why I never liked the Gene Wilder one, it was just too different.

But then again I was a weird kid and always hated The Wizard of Oz, too. It might've been the hype around both movies that made me disgruntled.
>> No. 33980
It's a pity that the Wilder version made the Oompa Loompas' orange weirdthings. The original book versions were a lost short African tribe that were living in a chocolate factory, loved chocolate, singing, and playing jokes on horrible brats. If that makes you think "racist" and not "awesome," I regret to inform you that you've become a complete and utter grown-up. Sorry.

Meh. Clint Eastwood returning to acting seems neat, but the story seems to be a generic drama, with some sports elements, the female doesn't look that intresting, and Timberlake looks out of place.

Sadly, due to the Josh Holmes shooting, Gangster Squad is pushed back to early Jan. 13. Not a loss, since it looks pretty bad. Disappointing is the move of The Great Gatsby to Summer 2013. That's a real blow.

A 5 minute trailer. It does feel like it does too much imagery, but doesn't feel like it's giving anything. So, yeah, this looks beautifiul and gorgeous, but doesn't feel like it's aiming for a generic "spectale".

Killing Them Softly Official T…youtube thumb

A film by the Dominik that brought us the brillant The Assanination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford got me... really hyped, but this trailer brought me down. It does seem like the film lacks the same scope and has a generic "crime thriller" feel with those really unintresting shots and those really cheesy performances.

The Sessions - Official Trailer (HD)youtube thumb

Sorry, for the fucked up link, http://youtube.com/watch?v=Lj5_FhLaaQQ.

So, anyway, the critically-acclaimed Sundance favorite, The Surrogate, is coming as a limited-release as The Sessions. The actor's voice got a little on my nerves, and the overt "indie quirkness" of the first half of the trailer was grating, but it looks like a nice, intresting story. Will go check it out.
>> No. 34793
The cinematrography, the actors, the way this trailer just looks goregeous. It does give me the feelings of it looking too much like 127 Hours (it being a film with a actor in one place for the duration of the film), but still Lee looks to be on his best here.

The Hurt Locker was one of the best films of 2009, and personally, one of my favorite films of the last decade, and one of my biggest fears was that this was going to be "The Hurt Locker II: This Time It's Laden". This trailer reassured my fears. In a bad way. It just looks like a generic "shock trailer", with people screaming and yelling to make it seem INTENSE, and it just trying to look edgy. Really hope we get a full trailer so we can get a look at this film in better detail.
