For you lucky people who got to attend a pre-screening...
Thoughts?

I thought the guy who voiced Fozzie sounded a little bit...off. I could be a bit of a Muppet puritan, though. Also, I loved the shout-outs to the previous films.

I liked it, but I thought the conclution was a bit tacked on.

She is adamant that it was an allegory for Down syndrome. Like, that's really why he was so short and childish.
>> No. 30547
>>30545

The Muppets have always sort've had dick moves like that. The first movie literally has them bursting into a big executive's office, asking for a contact and getting a "Rich and Famous" contract just like that. The emotional tension of the movie is really more about Walter trying to find his place in the world.

>>30546

Even if she thought that the allegory really falls apart on closer inspection. What there's an entire group of downs syndrome performers out there and all he wants to do is feel let-in with them because they're famous?

And the song halfway through which (kind of) implied that "having down syndrome" is a CHOICE one can make? Not to mention how negatively a light this would cast on Mary since she's basically telling her boyfriend of 10 years to stop giving so much attention to a person who supposedly has a serious mental condition.

Really "being a Muppet" is more or less an allegory for just being funny and more artistically inclined. Since few if any of the Muppets are tax-brokers or buisnessmen (except the two bad-guy cronies and Gonzo for about 3 minutes) I'm more inclined to think they're about being performers and comedians rather than people with "practical" real-world application. Since those kinds of people (the ones who AREN'T rich and famous) can still sadly be the subject of ridicule.

Or ya know, an apple could just be an apple and not have to mean anything.
>> No. 30548
>>30547

Oh and on the subject of Gonzo

The entire plot kinda falls apart when you remember that Gonzo basically owned a multi-million dollar corporation he was willing to blow up on the off-chance of joining the old team again. All he had to do was lend them the money he obviously had little attachment to anyway and the movie would be over

I've been waiting for a new show for at least five years. They have to be thinking about it. The Muppets are clearly still ridiculously beloved by pretty much everyone in the country and the media--what other puppets can go on modern serious news programs and be treated like they're actual people? Pretty much just Sesame Street characters, and it's only on a technicality that they're not part of the Muppets anymore themselves.

Speaking of Kevin Clash- Was it just me, or was it a bit odd that he wasn't featured in The Muppets at all?

Clifford is actually older than Pepe. Having him show up in the same kind of cameo appearance would have worked fine. Is it a Disney vs. CTW thing?

Probably the demanding schedule that puppeteering Elmo brings kept him out of it. Though there were plans at one point for an Elmo cameo as one of the celebrities Kermit tried bringing aboard for the show.
>> No. 32391
The way I look at it, I could see Kermit getting away with some semi-raunchy joke in a movie, Elmo can't. It's also an issue of the kind of humor they want to use.

Movie ignored a lot of the post-Manhattan franchise. Hell, Bobo and Pepe only got in because they're among the few really popular characters of the post-Henson stuff and Big Mean Carl only managed to sneak in what with being a monster that fits in well with the old crowd. As great as the movie was, Segel comes off as a "MUPPET SHOW AND ORIGINAL TRILOGY MASTER RACE" fan when looking at the writing and stuff.

I thought Manhattan was crap compared to Christmas Carol honestly. I also quite like Treasure Island but that's just because Tim Curry is merely a Muppet who has been cruelly cursed with a human form.

I personally liked In Space, Treasure Island and Christmas Carol truth be told, but this little dissension is what they wanted to avoid. >Co-writer of The Muppets Nick Stoller and director James Bobin are already writing a sequel to the 2011 blockbuster. Thirteen pages have already been written and it will be a comedy caper with new characters. Jason Segel might make a cameo and Disney wants a summer 2013 release date–which isn’t realistic. I never got the chance to see this in the theater, but I finally watched it today. It was wonderful, but at the same time kind of strange, because you do get the feeling that the writers don't have much affection for any of the films or specials past Muppets Take Manhattan. I know it's been a mixed bag since then, but that doesn't make the premise of everyone having forgotten the Muppets and Kermit being so out of the loop that Jimmy Carter and Bob Hope are at the top of his contacts any easier to buy.

I guess I understand why they would focus on the... continuity established by The Muppet Show and the original films? I'm not sure if that's the word I'm looking for, but whatever. It feels kind of alienating in a way.

(Would it have been so much to ask for Gonzo and Rizzo to bro it up a little, at least?)

>Would it have been so much to ask for Gonzo and Rizzo to bro it up a little, at least?

Yes, because all Rizzo managed was basically a cameo.

Also, their lack of affection for A Muppet Family Christmas is disconcerting, as it's one of the greatest Muppet things ever.
