>>64993 >But death in Homestuck doesn't mean much
I don't understand why people keep saying this. There are tons of stories where dead people affect what happens, but aren't resurrected. If it's not through mundane means like a delayed message, discovered hidden secret, or a clever plan meant to go off after they die, then it's usually some kind of "beyond the grave" intervention, even if just for a moment.
Since all these characters interacting with dead people are basically traveling through or temporarily visiting The Land of the Dead, something that doesn't happen often in the course of a "normal" game of SBURB, I think it's fair to say that being DEAD still means something.
You can't do much besides durdle around in the afterlife unless someone comes looking for you. If they are a Dream projection (like either of the last times Jake or John visited), which is under normal circumstances (i.e. SBURB conditions, not Homestuck conditions) is the much easier to achieve method of visiting, then there can't be much more interaction than an exchange of information. If you visit a dream bubble physically, THEN you can have a bit of "real" interaction, but it's a mistake to think it's anything but a temporary event.
Most importantly, if you're DEAD you can't leave the Dream bubbles. You can visit other bubbles, but there's no way to escape. You don't get a happily ever after. You can't be The Hero anymore. You can't go and do things in the land of the living. You have to sit by and watch, and if you're lucky you get to cheer on the people who are Still Alive.
>>64992 >God, I hope Hussie doesn't bring people back from the dead.
This would be the only thing that would make my argument fold faster than a kick to the crotch. I'd rather like it if the consequences of dying were permanent. This is kinda why Dragon Ball Z lost it's appeal to me over the years (among other reasons, but that is besides the point). And so far we've seen no evidence to point towards the anything but death being permanent in Homestuck. I just hope Vriska's blustering about finding a way out was only exactly what it sounded like: Vriska being Vriska.
