the closest you will come to it is harlow's monkey experiments, which do show that without soft objects--not even real touch, just something for them to grab onto that is soft and warm makes a huge difference--babies will go insane and/or fail to thrive, but they won't *die* just because they weren't handled. i think some refused to eat because they were too scared or possibly suicidal so they kicked the bucket, but while lack of touch was obviously a trigger it wasn't the method of death.
if we're going to relate the harlow experiments to this completely inane argument about dirk, dirk has cal in waking hours and "human" contact via carapaces on derse. he's not a wire cage kid. a more pressing question is where he would find food if he can't get off his apartment island but you know what, i don't fucking care. it's not important or even that strange considering what else has happened in homestuck up to this point.
