Creator of the MSPANotifier here.

Do any of you Homestuck fans care if I continue to work on a Mac/Linux version or add more features to the MSPANotifier? I know I've said it's a long time coming, but it's really close to a release now.

I've been told that there is a Homestuck hiatus, making the notifier virtually useless. I'm just trying to figure out if there's a point in continuing this thing or if I should just move on and prefect some other projects I've also been working on.

GTK# runtimes:
Windows: http://download.mono-project.com/gtk-sharp/gtk-sharp-2.12.10.win32.msi
Mac: http://download.mono-project.com/archive/2.10.5/macos-10-x86/0/MonoFramework-MRE-2.10.5_0.macos10.xa

Linux: Select your version here: http://www.go-mono.com/mono-downloads/download.html

Feel free to give this a test run to see if you like it. Right now it will just Fake Check, and it can run a timer of macros at 1 second each.

For Mac and Linux users, you will need to use the terminal and navigate to the extracted EXE then type "mono MSPANotifier.exe", and that will execute the program if mono is properly installed.

Feedback will be appreciated, and sound support is limited on Windows, and nonfunctional for Mac and Linux users thus far.

Please, Please, Please continue development

also the hiatus is for the development of the EOA5 flash, which i would love to have a notifier for

Please don't waste time on niche special-purpose computers that nobody owns. If people want a notifier then they can use technology from 2011, not 1970.

I love the notifier, so yes please continue!

However, I notice that when I keep it on 24/7, my computer starts to slow down after a day or two. Is this because I'm using the application incorrectly, or some other thing?

Your computer or the notifier? Because if it's your computer, you might wanna try switching it off sometime.

That sounds like a memory leak. Check the Task manager to see if the application is hogging a lot of resources. Also try restarting it.

What version are you using? 0.4.1?

Hell yeah man, go for it! I really appreciate you taking the time to code this for Macs.

THANK YOU BASED MRFREEMAN

First off, huge thank you for the notifier! The notifier has been of great use ever since your initial release of it and I ALWAYS have it running, even if there is a hiatus going on right now.

Second, that would be awesome to see another update for the notifier, but I'm sure I speak for most everybody that we wouldn't want to hold you down to it. Really, feel free to work on whatever you would like.

You mean MS-DOS based stuff like Windows? Or just IBM-compatible computers in general?

for hater in haters; do hater.gonna("hate"); done

MrFreeman: add config settings so the notifier can be used for sites other than MSPA, and there will be a point to "continuing this thing."

btw, not working here. Mono v2.10.5, and I'm getting "Method not found: 'System.Reflection.Assembly.op_Equality'". Probably a missing dependency on my end; if I find a solution I'll come back and describe it.

Doing it with mono seems to work here. However, (I seem to be rusty with my terminal skills) what would I need to include in the command so that it would keep running without me needing to keep my terminal open? Thanks.
>> No. 55718
>>55716
Hmm. After some further use, it seems to just close itself randomly. Also, the false update worked once, but then after that, it just kept closing. Which is too bad, really, as I was hoping it would work for me.

Oh hey, I've kind of left you guys in the dark, haven't I?

I now have a tumblr blog for updates, and a beta will be released later this month: http://mspanotify.tumblr.com/
>> No. 61784
Alright guys, I'm getting absolutely no help from HSG recently.

Will you guys test the alpha release of the new notifier?? It's a lot like the one I posted in the first post, except it's been refined and is basically a stripped down beta version: http://mspanotify.tumblr.com/notifier

Also, for those interested in macros, I am having a contest, in which everyone who participates is a winner: http://mspanotify.tumblr.com/post/17748999599/mspa-macro-mania-contest

Always exciting to see a new release from you!

Unfortunately, this seems to happen every time I try to start up the Alpha program. Could really just be my computer, running a moderately aged laptop with Windows XP.

I've been saving these for the next update of the notifier and really just have been using them for personal use, but I figure now is a good time as any to release them.

Here are Pesterchum bubble macros I made for the notifier. Not exactly contest-worthy I'd say, but I still enjoy their simplistic nature.

for the mac version, i seriously suggest finding a way to do it that doesnt involve the terminal and mono. aside from that, i guess i got it running, but i couldn't select anything in the drop-down menu, and if i double clicked on it it seemed to select "fake check" which didnt do anything. also, your instructions refer to "MSPANotify.exe" when the actual file is named "MSPANotifier.exe"
>> No. 61797
>>61795
Did you also make your own "macros" folder? Not listed in the instructions, but that might be the problem.
>> No. 61810

I have the same problem. As soon as I run the .exe it says it has encountered a problem and needs to close

no, but i just tried and it crashed when i got it to fake check (by clicking on the icon a bunch of times i might add)

also i think its kind of funny that there's no reference to macros in the instructions
>> No. 61860
>>61793
Alright, got it working after reinstalling the GTK runtime. However, no real difference from the current notifier except that it takes longer to load the MSPA website after clicking on the macro (about roughly thirty seconds as opposed to instantaneous).

Also with me running Windows XP, the problem where the macro doesn't transparent properly (read: at all) still occurs. Though really I've gotten used to this now and no longer mind.

>for the mac version, i seriously suggest finding a way to do it that doesnt involve the terminal and mono
I'd very much like that, but apparently making that happen is a big pain in the ass, and the mono devs don't make things too easy. I'm looking into it though.
>it it seemed to select "fake check" which didnt do anything.
I didn't include any macros. You need a macros folder and put your own image in there.
>also, your instructions refer to "MSPANotify.exe" when the actual file is named "MSPANotifier.exe"
Whoops, fixing that now.

>>61812
The error you are getting is a DLL not found error. This is the mono-dev team's fault, and has yet to be fixed. Which monoframework did you install? The only one I know that works is the one on my tumblr that I uploaded to mediafire.

>>61860
>it takes longer to load the MSPA website after clicking on the macro
That's weird, should still be instant. Are you sure you didn't have a browser open already? It's usually faster if you do.

>Also with me running Windows XP, the problem where the macro doesn't transparent properly (read: at all) still occurs.
I figured this wouldn't fix any of that. It's got to do something with the .NET framework setup on your Windows machine. I'm afraid there's nothing I can really detect to see if you need whatever it is installed or not.

So I tested it a bit more and find that it works fine with Google Chrome, but takes a while with Mozilla Firefox (which is what I use).

This is lit. impossible without an app store liscense, which costs $1000 of dollars

lmao r u serious

all im saying is that having to run terminal, throw in a bunch of commands and keep it open just to have the updater program run is ridic. ima just keep usin the old mspacheck

well shit, I'm not good with computer.
I installed the windows version correctly, but how do I change the image that pops up? When I try to find the folder that is supposed to be in Programs (x86) it isn't there.
