Most bloodswap AUs bug me because they don't tell you what formulas they use to get the combinations. Also, they tend to attribute certain character traits to blood color when that's obviously not the case.

That said, I've seen some really good ones.

I can understand being annoyed with all the mustard bloods having the red blue eyes, but why psychic powers? It makes sense that powers should follow blood. Should every bloodswap Sollux have psychic powers?

I tried to work out a simple "reversed hemospectrum" bloodswap, but the combinations weren't quite as interesting as I had expected. For a second I thought that Gamzee and Sollux were going to switch places, which would have been awesome, but it was a miscalculation.

Hm... Maybe something based on the server/client arrangement in SGRUB? Mite b kool.

It's not like there's been any serious discussion about them on how they should be made, or if there was, I was probably not invited. I can live without the police eyes, but isn't the psychic powers blood-based? As long as it's interesting, I wouldn't really care if one had the powers or not. Heck the yellow!fef couldn't lift a pencil if I recall.

Though I'm curious of what some would do if they had those powers and lifestyle yet retain a small piece of their alpha counterpart. It's one big 'what if's, really, and doesn't really annoy me that much, as long as it isn't stupid.

I like that one if only for Empress Vriska, drug-addled Kanaya, and raver girl Feferi. More funny is that, if you decide to swap the kids around too and follow the pattern, for that bloodline you'd end up with the original 4 kids in the same place. I can only imagine John trying to deal with Magenta Vriska or Dave with Violet Terezi.

Pretty much. It refers to a specific type of fanart where you take a troll and give them another blood color, and design them imagining what they'd be like as that color. So Eridan with Teal blood instead of Violet is a bloodswap.

i was kind of curious so i mapped out a few of the turn-the-colour-wheel swaps and it turns out there are patterns that come up, who is trading blood with who. red dead virgo's just a boring circle but they are split up into smaller groups 3/4s of the time.

cheap's bloodswap is the most aesthetically pleasing one.

>>34675 There is no such thing as a 'true' bloodswap. Some people mix and match. That said, some, if not most people make bloodswaps is based on this chart, where you push the trolls forward or backward on the bloodline like a decoder ring.

I really don't get most "bloodswaps". They're more trait-swapping, which implies that everyone of a particular blood color has the exact same characteristics (like every mustard yellow having Sollux's duality), with blood being one of the traits traded. Like, sure, giving Nepeta Aradia's blood instead would make her a lower caste and more likely to be psychic, but that doesn't mean she'd be a ghostly Japanese schoolgirl too.

Not that it's all bad or anything. Some of this stuff is great, like that Feferi thing up there (although it does take more liberties than most "they're moved their major aesthetic traits a few steps over" swaps, and was generally more creative). This is just a thing I've been curious about, and, this being the "bloodswap" thread, this seems like the right place to ask.

Kinda bothered people place Karkat before Aradia when blue- or redshifting them. Trolls have an order to go with, with Karkat being between Sollux and Nepeta.
