And as a German I can assure you, many Germans are more familiar with the term Kobold than with fantasy races like Lamia and Gnolls. They're part of our folklore. Which is why I got slightly mad at the (only very recent) D&D version being considered the "Western Kobold". You could call it the American Kobold, maybe. And even that's spotty.
