I have a silly idea that someone should run with it.

What if there was this team of magical girls who worked together and saved the world a long time ago and one of the girls stays in the magic girl game while the others move on with their lives. Then years later the magic girl comes back and tries to get the gang back together. The girls are in their 30's/40's and have their own families and careers and things and they have to come back and defeat the evil that's reviving themselves.

Also it's really important for the women to not turn back into girls when they transform. Is this a decent idea?

I'd fund it. I figure if you're born magic, you stay magic your entire life, right? No sense creating a character who only gets to use her magic a few times as a kid.

>>77794
The way I had it in my head is that the one who stayed a magic girl kinda had her age stunted. While her friends grew up and moved on she stayed the same physically. Also she may be resentful of the fact that she couldn't grow up while her friends left her behind.

Well Nanoha had the girls age up. Not 30s and 40s but certainly older.

I too wish Kururu was a full series.

I toyed around with a similar idea when working on this webcomic I'm working on. Didn't end up going in that direction, but I still think it has a lot of potential. The "Getting the Gang Back Together" element really makes me picture an almost Blues Brothers feel to it, though, and I think that would be a really interesting thing to see in a Magical Girl / Magical Woman story.

So it's Stephen King's It, only with more Japan?

Personally, I like the idea of doing a magical girl cliche, but with more of a modern-superhero aesthetic to it.

Imagine Mai-Hime if the girls were all grown up and it wasn't all about making everyone cry.

There was this huge Pretty Cure fanfic that it sounds a little similar to that idea called Dissonance that /u/ loves a lot.
It's basically the characters from the Futari wa to Suite series, gathered together and fighting with each other because "the powers that be" considered there was an unbalance between the light or something; with most of the characters are in their 20's.

Well if we're gonna be formulaic about it, here's what I got for the team.

The Leader-Becomes a housewife and lives a nice normal life with no regrets.
The Smart One-Becomes a scientist and is content if a little lonely. May be a single parent though adoption.
The Hot Head-Works at an office. Trying to maintain a relationship. May be a single parent from divorce.
The Kind one-A teacher or Flower Shop owner who was recently widowed.
The Fun one-Never really grew up and isn't that responsible. Works as a Waitress.
The Heart-She's the one that stayed and never had a chance to grow up and live her life.

Er...from what little I know, basically one day you become so fucking awesome that you can do magic by kicking reality in the balls?

As long as they don't turn into loli when they transform because Japan haet old wimmenz

I'd love to see something Pretty Cure-esque playing with the idea of gradual power bleedthrough. Where the heroine just slowly finds it harder and harder to keep her powers from activating all the damn time. Or where all the 'superhero' stuff you can do while you're transformed gradually seeps over into 'normal time'.
>> No. 77827
>>77826
Hmm. Interesting thought. It sort of plays into the idea of the Magical Girl concept, and the transformations themselves, representing a pubescent girl becoming a woman--in this case, the women in question are already women, so they're finding that these days, there's no transformation involved. It's more like putting on a hat than turning into someone else.

Come to think of it, there's a bit of a precedent for that in the Trope Codifier itself--the future version of Sailor Moon is Neo Queen Serenity, who doesn't appear to ever transform back into plain ol' Tsukino Usagi. She's at full power at all times.

There's also, again, Mai-Hime, but that was more about being subversive than exploring that particular aspect.

Magical girl Christmas cake. With the chubbiness and the awkwardness and the boobs. Main heroine is a skinny fujioshi NEET princess. With glasses and a jersey and a messy ponytail and no love life. Then there's a jaded OL with expensive tastes in clothing and no friends because bitch. The teacher (probably PE) who's overly mannish but cosplays in her spare time and still wears her hair in braids/pigtails. Embarrassing transformation sequences and outfits, a dirty old man of an impossibly cute mascot. Villains are over the top perfect bodied boys and girls who get lambasted by our skeptical heroes.

Hmmmm, lemme see. At first it looked alright for me, saved it. I like the shinies (I don't mind that they look oiled for no reason) and the tig ol' bitties. I actually like the hair, also hands and shoulders on everyone, that shit ain't easy. But...

-The mouths. Most of the lips look too fishy for me, and the teeth look a bit weird, but the only way i could think of improving that without conveniently hiding them would be using less detail.

-Venus' nipples seem to be pointing at wildly different directions, including up and down... maybe they're supposed to be in the middle of movement. But agh, dat elbow. I still like her face best.

-Makoto's butt looks a bit too disproportionally big to me, I guess there's a delicate balance on that kinda thing. Then again they're supposed to be more MILFy-like I think, so that works, I guess.
>> No. 77886
It'd be a lot better if their eyes weren't so squinty.

The lips are... ok annoying but the eyes make it look like they're suffering from a terrible allergic reaction.
>> No. 77931
I'm not a fan of giant breasts or pornface, but that's more of an aesthetic choice than something that's actually wrong with the piece. I do agree Venus' (?) nipples are lopsided, but I like how she's slightly paunchy.

I can't stop thinking about powers being affecting/ed by sex. Like either the husband waking up to his wife looking slightly different and freaks out thinking that he just cheated on her or things getting "interesting" when at least the magic woman's in the mood.
>> No. 77948
If we're discussing character archetypes, why has no one mentioned the ambiguously gay duo that every other magical girl team seems to have?

There's so much potential there for bittersweet scenarios upon reunion. Japan seems to encourage writing that kind of stuff off as an adolescent phase, so maybe one of them has settled into a lukewarm marriage. Meanwhile, the other has had a series of equally unfulfilling relationships with various women. I don't know, I'm just throwing ideas around.

Regardless of the specifics, you're guaranteed some emotional drama when they meet up again and can't figure out if it's worth it (or even possible) to pick up where they left off.
>> No. 77951

Forget about the Sailor Moon template and just consider the sheer potential something like this would have based on your classic Pretty Cure duo.

Never mind the fact that Pretty Cure (at least the first one) had some of the best potential for, lacking a better term, injecting a bit of 'realism' into the formula without ending up needlessly grimdark and juvenile.

I'm only really familiar with Yes! (I immediately thought of Komachi and Karen) and Heartcatch, but from my understanding, every incarnation of Pretty Cure has had those kinds of undertones. I can totally see this working out.

Maybe we should move this to /coc/ and make it a webcomic, or something.

Tuxedo Mask actually canonically has the Sailor Crystal of Earth, which is why there is no Sailor Earth. Men can't be senshi (except in the anime where the Starlights are Men....or something. Whatever it is, it's retarded so don't take it as canon).

Tuxedo Mask has power (and explicit attacks, in the manga), but he doesn't have Senshi-level power. One assumes that if he were a woman, he'd have power pretty close to Sailor Moon's own power.

Oddly enough, "It" would be a good model for this story, possibly. The team have all moved on, and they must reunite to take down an old foe. They must finally learn to patch up old wounds before they are able to finally conquer their fears.

And the main character is a self-insert for the author.
