SPOILERS THE BAD GUY IS JESUS, GET IT!?!?!?

Anyway I'm really digging this so far.

It's incredible mired in Japanese culture though and even a Samurai nut like me has trouble following their jokes.

Seeing the latest Hellsing ultimate episode makes me wish they never made the next episode.

The animation quality had a decrease so severe it doesn't even qualify as an OVA anymore

Guess I don't have to feel bad about forgetting to watch anything after the first episode then.

It only got bad on the last one, and only at parts with lots of people.

But considering it's a war focusing on numerous people.....

I don't know. Drifters had me with the interesting time travel plot, but lost me with the whole bad guy is/might be Jesus thing though. I like the designs and art style though. Also I really need to check out Hellsing.

Think of it as taking the perspective of Jesus being less a piece of God and being in actually a Human being with enormous regenerative powers and after having been horridly crucified and killed and finding himself in a world with beings of human intelligence repressed by Nazis decides humanity isn't worth a damn and creates a force of human beings who have forsaken their humanity with the ideology that humanity should be destroyed.

It's a feeling I rarely get, it's that feeling you get when you see something that completely alters a universes foundation.

Ok, so reading into this a little bit (about half way through now), and I've come to the conclusion that this is somewhat vaguely like Riverworld, only way, way, way, WAY more inaccurate with just about anything not Japanese (and probably that stuff too). The part that flipped the ship was when I saw that guy they're calling Rasputin. Actually, all the action is of course fun, and so is the concept behind "people from different eras together", but good lord this story seems kind of terrible...I'm sorry?
>> No. 70842
I remember Kohta Hirano once saying in an interview I read that he deliberately aims for the "dumb action film" feel in everything he does, so yeah it's not even slightly accurate and it's campy as fuck. Fun though.

Thought he would get appearances right though. Hell, ironically in Hellsing, when Alucard went full on Vlad, he looked very close to what Vlad Tepes actually looked like.

So I've wondered a few things about the Black King. I can totally get the whole, being only in favor of non human intelligent races, but does this mean he'd have no problem helping elves, dwarves, hobbits, and other less traditionally monstrous fantasy beings? I wondered due to the fact in that whole bit with Jean, his forces were killing elves seemingly before they fully knew drifters were about. I mean, he's technically for anything not human.
Also,I totally no not get the symbolism behind the dragon-fly staff. Granted, my info on Christian biblical events is pretty shitty.
>> No. 70885

I think he's willing to kill anyone allied with the Drifters.

Hence his "Strangle the tree and make it dry" line.

As for the Dragon Fly Staff, I can't find anything related to christian symbolism, but it's typical symbolic nature is pretty indicative of what it means to the story.

The meaning of a dragonfly changes with each culture. The main symbolisms of the dragonfly are renewal, positive force and the power of life in general. Dragonflies can also be a symbol of the sense of self that comes with maturity. Also, as a creature of the wind, the dragonfly frequently represents change. And as a dragonfly lives a short life, it knows it must live its life to the fullest with the short time it has - which is a lesson for all of us.
