I just don't think being the darkest Berserk has ever gotten means it's the best arc. The story just wasn't that memorable. I remember a girl who lived with a shitty dad, the demon-butterfly kids, and that the main demon was mildly sympathetic. That's it. It just didn't stick around in my memory aside from a vague recollection that "oh yeah, that was pretty good." Berserk is always at least "pretty good."
Golden Age definitely gets the most exposure, but it's for a reason. Griffith's sacrifice was one of the most visceral gut-punches I've ever read, because I knew all the characters well, and the build-up was handled so perfectly. It's easily the best arc.
