I liked MoS. But Snyder is consulting with Frank Miller. It's apparently going to "draw from" The Dark Knight Returns. I'm going to start bursting into tears at random times as 2015 draws ever closer.

I'm jealous of people who enjoined MoS because frankly I only liked the music and that Krypton was pronounced correctly. I won't be seeing this new one for sure if Miller suggests Batgod humiliate/put down Superman and Snyder listens to him.

It's not perfect by any means, but I liked what it had. I think a lot of people were disappointed that it wasn't the iconic Superman when he's already been doing the hero business for years and doesn't make nearly as many mistakes. MoS is a mistakapalooza. Since he's newish, it kind of makes sense that he'd be quieter and less likely to draw attention to himself. He'd been trying to do it his entire life up until that point, and besides, even if they didn't really get the "natural writer" bit in there, both he and Bruce are more hands-on, speak with actions rather than words types. Cavill is good at working with facial expressions to get things across.

Yeah. Anyway, you probably didn't want a big discussion on a porn board, so porn.

To me it didn't do right by him. It didn't feel like a Superman film, it was a surprisingly Spiderman (Johnathan dying to teach a lesson), unsurprisingly Batman (bleak, dreary, joyless tone), and Dragon Ball Z flick rolled into one without an pitiful speck of magic or weightlessness or charm. He got beat up a lot, was very petty to an asshole in a bar, and did whatever everyone else told him to do.

Pa Kent told him to let him die
Clark does
Zod said the only way to stop him was to kill him
Clark does

I also have zero interest seeing my life role model kill someone ESPECIALLY not in the movie that sets the tone for the character. I get there was no other way there but I guess the point that I'm trying to make is that it's the writer's fault, not MOS Superman's. It's the writer's job to make it feel like he was successful as a hero. And stumbling on that on the first go around deeply hurts. Typically the first movie builds the hero and sequels have him fall so he can go again. There's a reason for that. The fact that he saved the Earth is diminished by the fact that he failed morally. Even if he had no alternative, it was still failure. http://kotaku.com/no-he-shouldnt-kill-ever-730807520

Superman has killed 6 people this year alone: Zod (MoS), Joker, Green Arrow, Captain Marvel, Lex (Injustice), and Dr. Light (Trinity War). He has also vaporized 2 crowds of people (Injustice/Flashpoint), collapse a bridge full of people (Injustice), and helped level Metropolis (MoS). And the year isn’t over yet though it cements this is the leading standard for him in mass media now.

WB/DC just doesn't understand Superman, they don't get what's special and it showed because MOS felt generic and beneath it's subject. The only thing I enjoined was the music. The sonic boom after Superman snapped Zod's neck was cool but in a shallow way and I couldn't be more deeply disappointed and heart broken from this movie. This isn't to say I couldn't be sold on the elements given (cept him killing) but it wasn't sold well. It positioned him as something less instead of one of the most iconic fictional figures in human history and portraying that respectfully.

People say, “Yeah, wasn't perfect. Could have done better.” but to me it could have been impressively light years ahead of better just by being a movie accepting Superman. I believe Superman is a storytelling vehicle unlike any other hero because his stories can fill people with awe, optimism, inspiration, kindness, hope, and righteousness. They can stretch the scope of the world, challenge thought/reason, and do something meaningful, brilliantly beautiful while playing with all the fantastical elements that peppers Superman's entire history. And why not, just once, embrace the guy as a character? The dorky dude, in the ultra dorky outfit his ma made, who believes in dorky things like being better and doing better without reward and takes the time out to help kids and kittens. Whose almost as lame as your parents and lame as the lame things they do. Until one day MONGUL, he's right in front of YOU about to slap your shit all over the pavement leaving you unrecognizable except to a DNA test. You feel every breath of this moment and MONGUL has all his focus on YOU – the sight of you erasing all other thought to this 7ft behemoth that just pushed over a sky scrapper downtown filling all your senses. His voice is booming with dark promises and that's it. Game over. Then SUPERMAN is there. You feel the wind from his arrival after he stands in front of you, standing tall and wide almost blocking your vision from Mongul and he says to you, “There is no force on Earth powerful enough to harm you while I am here.” And nothing is. Now you don't care that your lame dad wears his pants alittle too high because he stood up to a bully for YOU no matter what. Now he's your hero and maybe more importantly a friend.

“There’s nothing wrong with being a good guy. Standing tall for your beliefs is a rare thing. But it’s the right thing. Keep your conflicted brooders. I see them every day. Give me a hero.” -Ash Mahtani

Superman just might be the most misunderstood fictional character there is.

Then this is coming in 2015:
>(Oh shit, how do we make a Superman sequel that doesn't bomb?!)
>(Oh wait, I've got it!)
>But there is thing that I found, that kind of helped me (come forth with a concept that wouldn't bomb)
>Batman!!
>Enjoy your new Superman sequel.

And after hints being dropped about Miller and DC/WB meddling with Synder's creative freedom to prevent Superman from being stomped, humiliated, talked down to and outshined by Batman again..and always, I couldn't be less excited for something I've shamelessly day dreamed about since I was a child.

Sorry for ranting...I guess the movie opened my eyes to how much Superman means to me. Synder/Goyer definitely got a reaction but anyway here's red ass.

The thing is, Superman HAS killed before, and not just in things like Injustice. He executed Zod, Faora and Quex-Ul in canon many years ago after stripping them of their powers with gold K, but figuring they might get them back, he offs them with green K. There is also, of course, Doomsday.

Obviously, Superman does not enjoy killing. Then there is the entire point of What's so Funny About Truth, Justice and the American Way? He says there is always a way but across different writers and their interpretations of him and his situation, he doesn't always have a choice. The canon killing of Zod pretty much aligns with that of MoS. Zod could escape from the Phantom Zone and murder more people. In the movie, Zod straight up says that he won't stop unless Kal kills him. And Kal's scream afterward shows pretty evidently that he did not want to have to do it.

Clark and Bruce have very similar moral codes at the heart of them but they are not identical. Superman will kill if he absolutely must and there are no other options. Bruce doesn't kill because if he started, he may never stop.

I love Clark as a big, goofy, sweethearted dork but he can't afford to be that all the time and he really isn't in any comic. He understands that his responsibilities come before what he wants. He's a goof when he has the opportunity to be and serious when he needs to be. Yes, even as Superman he could be called "corny," but not nearly to the extent portrayed in say, the Donner films. The truth is that Clark hasn't been characterized like that in a very long time. His character has evolved with the times. Whether it's for better or for worse differs between individual opinions but it's unrealistic to want him to be all smiles all the time. Because he isn't.

Sage for no real content.
>> No. 92501
Yeah I'm aware he's killed before, I've been reading this guy for a good bit of time and every time even with Doomsday it's been contrived. For Superman killing the Pocket Universe Kryptonians, that was a poorly written badly executed move. Sorry but it is. Superman had beaten, depowered and left Zod stranded in another universe. Even if he did get his powers back and come to this universe, Superman knows how to beat him again. Besides the Earth is teeming with metahumans and some with Superman specific nullifying powers. They could have stopped them. Superman let himself be goaded into ending their lives when he definitely could have just left them there in the pocket universe.

As for Doomsday, that was a money grubbing scheme to fill DC's pockets. And whilst I don't like making the animal/human comparison, whilst we are just another species of animal, we have developed our intelligence into making cultures and grasping knowledge of the world. Doomsday is an animal acting on instinct that didn't understand what he was doing nor could he be reasoned with. At the end of the day, you have to put the rabid dog down to stop the spread of disease. Plus he could have brought allies like magicians, other metas, resorted to the other planets he's saved, cadmus, star labs, the phantom zone, etc with him to battle.
In any case, for the few times Superman has killed, I can cite at least double the quotes where he admonishes killing in all its forms. It sucks but I'm afraid Superman killing is a very good thing to focus on why the film was massively flawed.
He's also made out with a 14 year old, made a porno, and launched Supergirl into spaces as a punishment before yet none of these elements deserves to be a representation of Superman to the masses going forward.

Superman killing also doesn't make any sense. He can do anything, he was MADE like that to begin with. He's better than that noise. The years he's gone without killing are more indicative of his no killing code than the times he has killed. In fact, Batman is now the pinnacle of morality for DC. Recently, in Batman Inc 13 and the back up to Batman 23, Bruce has made it abundantly clear he won't kill anyone. Not even his most hated enemies who come back every time to try and finish him off. And for me, that's how Superman should be. Refusing to kill even when it seems like there's no other option. A big part of his character is his moral compass and Superman has shown plenty of times that he won't kill. Again, more than he has been willing to kill for certain.

Within the context of this story – yes he had no choice cept I mean, he already knows of one way to strip Zod of his newfound power, they did it to him when they were on the ship! And at least one ship wasn't disappeared at the end of that movie but he's sort of a moron in this flick. I've ever heard the, “This is his first fight! They are experienced fighters! He isn't!” But I didn't know I was going to see Superboy the movie, plus he's been absorbing yellow sun for 33 years while Zod had 48 hours! That to me is an indicative of this not even a Superman movie. Putting him in all these little boxes to make him appease people who've never liked him, complained about his powers, his morality, I honestly felt alienated because they simply humanized Superman too much and didn't really make him "Super" enough. They dirtied the character.

“You realize that they changed the one aspect of Superman that the average person complains about ("He's Superman, he can do anything and is invincible, so his stories are boring") and intentionally changed that so they could connect with people. I don't get why this is actually a good thing. It's admitting that Man of Steel was made by and for people that don't like Superman as is, and what he represents. If your saying "Man of Steel fixed Superman!" then you don't get that any one that hates the movie feels they fixed something that wasn't ever broken, for people that never cared about the character in the first place, and that's not a good thing. And then you guys go "Well why can't they do Wonder Woman next?"

This was the best summary of why Superman killing Zod breaks the movie:
“For me, the worst thing about Superman killing Zod at the end of Man of Steel isn't the neck-snapping itself, but that a few minutes before it happens, during an interminable fight scene through the damn near post-apocalyptic landscape of a ruined Metropolis, Zod tells him something along the lines of "this doesn't end until one of us dies." And he's right. That's what kills me about it. The bad guy tells Superman that he'll only stop if Superman kills him, and Superman proves him right. Superman proves that the bad guy is right. There's no other way. It's just violence and death as the only solution.
Superman proves that the bad guy is right.
There is nothing you can tell me that will make me think that's not a completely insane, monumentally wrongheaded way to end a Superman movie. From a character standpoint, it is the worst possible thing they could do, undermining every bit of rancid dialogue about how Superman's going to Show Us The Way and how It Stands For Hope. It doesn't. It's just dudes punching each other until one of them punches harder, the end.”

My bitching aside where is he suppose to go now? What's to stop him from offing Luthor whose plans will undoubtedly endanger more than 4 people?

In any event get he can't be bright all the time but with what we've been given this year alone and how long he's been out of the public consciousness I feel that element about him, should be looked at very unashamedly because it's as much in his character as being broody is to Batman's and doesn't have to be corny.

I'm in no way an expert in Superman, but I liked Man of Steel, and I liked the Zod death. I figured that was just "the one", the only kill he'd ever make, the one that made Clark realize he hated killing people. He looked like he was pained to do it, but talking to Zod wouldn't work.

It's probably worth asking, though it's by GD Mechano so there's a good chance nobody would really have time to respond. And there's the language barrier problem. GD has made a ton of doujin and a lot of them have been translated into English already. I can't find anything explicitly stating permission (or not) for this sort of thing. I'm tempted to just say "go for it" even though there's a chance it's wrong. :/ and you're not the one who found Sit! In the first place, I think it was me who made everyone aware of it before it was released in Japan and I helped pay so there's plenty of blame to go around.

Good news everyone! So there's some new SB books out and I found an order page:

http://wfsb.muroisan.com/wf/index.php?go=category_13

I believe they are totally cool with shipping overseas so no repeats of the Jiro fiasco but I think Jiro contributed art to the latest book so more treats from her as well. I think we're all in the clear here! I say we do like we did before but this time buy all these books (most SB books I've ever seen - perhaps vote on which to get first) with an chip in or http://www.gofundme.com/ since chip in has since been shut down. If nothing comes out of this do make sure to check inside the individual links because they do include some nice sample art.

I also found http://www.darkroomgate.com/between/ which seem completely dedicated to the latest book and information surrounding that. However on http://www.darkroomgate.com/news/ if you scroll down you'll see more books by Dark-Room I think and another order form: http://www.lazyyy.com/ecommerce/catalogsearch/result/?q=Dark-room

And then here's ANOTHER book: http://www.lazyyy.com/ecommerce/silent-the-most-foolish-guy-in-the-world.php

Do you guys maybe think some out these already upped somewhere?

If we could only pick one I'd ask for the compilation one in Domain's name. HOWEVER, since chances are the artists also don't want it leaked online, I would suggest uploading it somewhere for a short while where the contributors can get to it. I helped pay for "Sit!" and it's embarrassing how far it's spread. Someone even translated it to Spanish from the English version and then back to English from that. I don't want to do that to anyone again.
