If you're talking about the Underflow scene, I totally agree.

It really helped that it stopped the CHARACTER TENSION that was being shoved down my throat too.

I adored the demo, but am hesitant on buying the full retail game. Is it really worth it?

Firefly Clip: This Landyoutube thumb

It's super obvious especially if you do DeRosso's sidemission that Airy is a shitbird plus given her proclivity for not giving a shit if people die and the Puck rule from Berserk that I wonder if anyone didn't see it coming.

Not judging the game
But that is the absolute most Engrish title I've ever heard.

Generally I assume any mysterious or otherwise non-invested benefactor to be hiding something unpleasant ever since it became a popular thing to do.

Flying Fairy would have been more appropriate.

Huh, that's funny, that title actually refers to the games battle system which features two unique options, brave and default.

Brave allows you to take up to three additional turns now at the cost of having to then wait out those three spent turns.

Befault is similar to guard except it doesn't spend a turn thus storing up to three, thus allowing with proper budgeting a free 4 turns.

>>185591
I dunno man, I really like that they named it based on it's mechanics as opposed to it's story or world.

Especially since due to my aforementioned spoiler that name likely wouldn't work for future games.
>> No. 185597
I really wish they hadn't dropped "For the Sequel" for the NA release because that would have been hilarious.
>> No. 185598
Wow, when you find out Edea's parents backstory the "official North American" ages are UTTER FUCKING NONSENSE.

They had Edea DURING THE PLAGUE THAT THEY FLED FROM TO HAVE EDEA.
>> No. 185607
To be honest calling the options 'Brave' and 'Default' is pretty engrishy to begin with. That the title they combine to form is likewise engrishy should come as absolutely no surprise.
>> No. 185609
You know, while it definitely sounds wacky without context, "Bravely Default" is actually perfectly standard english when you take "Default" as a verb. Which is, I'm told, exactly how it's meant to be taken--"Default" here meaning to intentionally fail to live up to oaths / responsibilities. As in "to default on a loan."

Apparently the title is supposed to refer to having the bravery to defy one's duties in the pursuit of what's right. So the title is iffy in the sense that it's meaningless to someone who doesn't have the context. But WITH that context, it's entirely serviceable. It's not "Bravely DEE-falt" it's "Bravely de-FALT."
>> No. 185612
>>185609

Well yeah, except:

1. The title screen pronounces it 'dee-fault' (although I think either pronunciation is considered acceptable for either version of the word so that's a bit moot)

2. That's still really engrishy because in modern English default the verb is very rarely used in any other context than financial debt.

3. It's still SUPER engrishy as mechanic names, because they mean, like, the opposite of what the mechanic actually does. To default in the game is to save up a move for future use, not abdicate it entirely, and to brave in the game doesn't mean to put yourself in adverse conditions, it means to make your short-term situation way better.

Better terminology, on a descriptive level, would be 'bank' and 'borrow'. That would at least tell you what they do at a glance.

Question: Does leveling under a job influince base stat growth.
In other words, need I worry about what jobs I use when I level in order to not turn out a busted character ala FFIII?
>> No. 185647
>>185646
Not base stat growth, no. You get a 1% boost to all stats while in that job for each job level you have in it, but it doesn't affect your characters base stats at all.

So if you level, say, Hunter to Level 9, then switch to Pirate, your damage output might decrease as a Pirate until you get it up to a higher level for example. But your stats aren't permanently affected by it.

I feel like the game was balanced for the 200% encounter rate and/or I'm way under level. I have to stop and top off levels every once in a while so bosses don't two-shot my party.
>> No. 185775
I actually had no idea that auto-battle did the last successful action. I thought it did some sort of optimal action search. I turned it on when my last successful action was using a phoenix down on a KOd teammate...

Tiz used my last phoenix down on a teammate who wasn't KOd. Oh well.

Man, Holy One + Healing Lore is kind of overkill. Between those and my equipment, a simple Cure spell cast on the entire party is recovering about 2500 HP each.
>> No. 185836
In most JRPGs, stuff like the teleport stone are really useful for when you're in a tight spot and about to die. But when you can set the random encounter rate to 0%, all it serves is as a convenient way to get out of a dungeon after a boss fight slightly faster than running. I wonder why they decided to have a teleport stone instead of going the Zelda route and just giving you a shortcut to the entrance.
>> No. 185840

I'm not sure if you can set the encounter rate in the original version of BD.

My abs are all linked up.
I can't tell if this is breaking anything or not.
Though it is fun to have zombies pay me to heal them to death.
>> No. 186201
>>186198

It doesn't really break anything. Abilink gives you access to higher-level abilities, but doesn't do anything for the stat bonuses the job gives. You still have to level those up.

Well it's still cool.
I can cast a spell, then brave and mimic to cast it some more for free.
>> No. 186207
>>186203
Yeah, Mimic can be pretty sweet. Especially with a high MP cost job. Like if you want to use the -aja spells in the Genome skillset, or something.

Of course Free Lunch would work pretty well for that situation, too, if not better in some situations.
>> No. 186263
It always feel like I'm cripplingly underleveled despite running around with encounters at 200% at all times fighting as much as I can.
Though with very careful play I manage to make it anyways, so maybe not?

How's your gear? Is it on the right people? Equipment aptitude is simple in this game but makes a noticeable difference.

Also, don't forget buffs and debuffs, they're also actually kinda worthwhile in this game. Like I did a certain globe-trotting sidequest as soon as it became available and never would've passed it without buffs (and more importantly immunities) out of my ears.

Ah, if you're referring to the quest I think you are, that shit was crazy if you did it right when it came out. I think I ended up having to abuse the Spiritmaster job to survive it.

Florem Gardens is a good place to top off your levels, both of them. Those little shrub things give a lot of points and tend to show up in groups.

I've read of people maxing their party there but it really, really, REALLY isn't necessary, and you don't get to call the game grindy if you do that on your own free will.
