Two years later and I still love FF Dissidia 012. I'm still pissed I'll never get Cecil's sprite costume because Square Enix made it exclusive to another game and gave the code an expiration date.

I wish Ramza was in it. Maybe Ultima too. Proper villains for 11 and 13 too. I can't be the only one who thought Prishe was pointless.

I'd be happy with any of them. From Shadow Lord to Lady Lilith.
>> No. 180480
>>180475
Shadow Lord would have been good. He's from the vanilla version so he was established first. Plus Chaos had a surplus of magic heavy characters. I wouldn't have minded that guy from the Wii Crystal Chronicles game. Using telekinesis would makes for an interesting moveset. Plus he had an EX mode. Ramza would be great with Knight Break attacks and archer Charge attacks for HP. Bravery attacks could draw from his Squire abilities, maybe with different buffs added. Like following up one Brave attack with an HP one has a gives it a wall rush bonus. His EX could be Ultima.
>> No. 180486
>>180480
Although honestly, if you go solely on who would have the more interesting moveset rather than who the most important character was, Orlandu or at least Agrias would be the better choice than Ramza. Although I guess given that they take some liberties with Dissidia versions of characters, they could also just give Ramza the Holy Swordsman abilities.

So I've been a console gamer my whole life due to having a very mediocre computer, but that old thing finally broke down and I got a new one which is very nice, and should be capable of playing just about any recent game.

So, what are the must-play pc games that I've missed out on? I'm not a fan of the RTS genre, so you don't need to list Starcraft, Warcraft, etc., and I really don't like paid subscription games either.

Oh, and is steam worth getting?
>> No. 180537
>>180535
Steam is definitely worth getting. Awesomenauts, Starforge and Star Wars Battlefront 2 are good starts. The Doom modding community is still healthy. The entire Zork series is free to download. The SCP game is free and in my opinion one of the most suspenseful nd creepy games I've played in a while.

copypasta from reddit

>SEGA did not buy Atlus. SEGA Sammy which is a holding company that includes SEGA, Sammy (a Pachinko machine maker) and about 2 dozen or so smaller companies, bought Index which is a massive media conglomerate that owns Atlus. This means that we do not know where Atlus is going to fall in the corporate structure of Sega Sammy, as Index could exist somewhat autonomously with Atlus inside of it, or Atlus could get rolled into SEGA while the rest of Index is absorbed into other companies.
Any discussion of how Atlus will be shaped by SEGA's corporate culture is premature at this point as we don't know how the two will interact, if at all.

>(1) gain access to prominent IPs in the home video game software, through which the Company can expect to achieve steady flows of revenue;

>(2) expect further facilitation of revenue growth for the PC Online Game Business and Content Business for Smart Devices operated by Sega and Sega Networks Co., Ltd. by exploiting acquired prominent IPs and

>(3) maximize the value of acquired IPs by effectively deploying them in the Pachislot and Pachinko Machines segment, Amusement Machine Sales and Amusement Center Operations segments."

Really wish there was a story mode for the villains. Kefka and Exdeath bro adventures would be worth it. I had no real interest in Beyond, but reading some of these reviews is just mind-boggling.
http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2013/10/beyond-two-souls-review-beyond-awful/

>I intentionally failed the (almost laughably easy) timed button-press tasks the game threw at me, only to trigger a cut scene where Jodie is somehow saved and her original objective is achieved off-screen by military explosives. In another instance where I was steering a motorcycle, I stopped steering with the analog stick and simply held down the accelerator, only to find that the game piloted me safely to the end of the "dramatic" chase anyway.
I would say "Press A to win", but from the sound of it I don't even need to Press A.

I thought it would be simple enough, but it's making me fall into my collector habits which is catastrophically bad, even if the game goes out of its way with limited item room and constant weapon drops. I guess I wanted a New Vegas, not a Phantasy Star shooter.

At any rate things are starting to pick up now that my guy has some skill points.

>the video game equivalent of people who refuse to listen to music from bands once they get record contracts.
I thought that was more about wanting to limit the power and influence of said record companies? Like if EA was somewhat less destructively stupid to its subsidiaries, but along with a few similar contemporaries had a stranglehold on game production to the point that not signing with them was seen as practically not even being a professional at all. On the other hand, that actually used to be due to much greater distribution issues, and was a concern before video games even existed.

That's more being opposed to record companies themselves, which I don't have a problem with--publishers are assholes whose contribution to media is increasingly irrelevant despite the fact that they take the vast majority of the profit and screw both the consumers and the content creators as much as possible, and deserve all the hate they get.

No, I'm referring to the people who call any indie act who signs with a record company sell-outs and stops buying them because once they're no longer new and secret, they're no longer cool. That once something becomes mainstream or, god forbid, popular, it's no longer cool to be seen liking them.

In other words, hipsters.

http://www.siliconera.com/2013/10/14/kingdom-hearts-iii-riku-making-return-new-outfits/

>After showcasing the trailer of the recently revealed Kingdom Hearts 2.5 HD Remix, Square Enix showed off a new trailer for Kingdom Hearts III. The trailer reportedly shows various battle scenes, where Sora is seen fighting the Heartless at Traverse Town. At one point, he shoots a homing Fire spell. FF-Reunion also reports that Sora’s Keyblade appears to change its form into a weapon that can shoot multiple Fire spells.

>In the next scene, Square Enix showed a peek at an action called “Roll Splash,” which calls forth a swaying pirate ship in attraction ride-like fashion, where Sora, Goofy and Donald are shown (with Donald strapped under a safety-bar), as they attack enemies.

>The scene after that one shows a fight against the Rock Titan, which features the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad attraction, as it advances while railroad tracks continue to appear in front of it. The fight seems to involve having to spin circles around Titan as you continue attacking it. According to the report, the skill name was indicated with a logo and gauge marked “Big Magic Mountain”.

>Series director Tetsuya Nomura also stated that what was shown in the demonstration footage are parts of the game that have already been made to be playable.

>According to a separate report by Gamer.ne.jp, Nomura also stated that Riku will be returning and will play a role in the story of Kingdom Hearts III. Additionally, Sora and Riku will both have new clothing in Kingdom Hearts III.

>Finally, Nomura also previously stated that he will be discussing the game in an upcoming video that is expected to be released this month on Sony’s Play Community site. Hopefully, we’ll be able to look forward to that soon, along with a public showing of the new trailer.

Sweet. My little brother is going to sell me his Xbox 360 with all games/accessories for $150. It's a refurb model he got after his RRoD'd, but he has some nice games and such. I think it's an Elite model, and if that's the case I'll give him $200 for the package instead. He still has 3/4 year on his Gold Live account, including a number of downloadable games, so I'll just change as much information as I can and see if I want to re-up when it expires.

He has a few physical games I don't give a damn about (Dead Space 3, a racing game), so I can stick those on eBay for some extra dosh as well.

He's selling it because he wants to get heavy into college (which he is paying for out of his own pocket--good for him) and get rid of distractions. Figure I'll make some nice use out of it, including playing a number of games he already owns that I otherwise wouldn't think to get, and in three years when he graduates I'll give it back to him as a gift along with extra games I buy along the way. :)

So the retail remake of the Stanley Parable (originally the best source mod) is out. It, from what I have seen, is as incredible as the mod and recent demo would lead you to believe. It's also got a billion more endings than the mod had, which people are still trying to find. One of them you can get, and I don't spoiler this because there's no way in hell you'd actually do it, by actually pressing a button over and over for four hours.

Considering GfWL is going to be discontinued as a whole (which is another thing to celebrate), and the fates of many games which utilize it is uncertain (which is not so good), it's going to be interesting to see which publishers pick up the slack and ensure their products will still work.

So Okami HD:

When I played Okami the first time, it was on the wii, and the game glitched out on Oni Island, such that my brush wouldn't come up anymore and I was forced to abandon the game with the dungeon unfinished. I was shocked to later learn that wasn't even the last dungeon and there was a third of the game to go. I mean, you know Orochi can't be the last boss because you know you have to go the capital, but Ninetails is hyped up as the Dark Lord and that last bit seems like the game has ramped way the fuck up.

Having beaten Oni Island, I'm so happy that my theory of Ninetails basically being an evil version of you is correct. She can write with her brush tails, and she's even got a fucking divine instrument thanks to her sword. I guess that, in terms of other Kamiya games, she's the game's Virgil while Yami is Mundus?

I mean, I imagine the rest of the game is awesome too, but if that's the case then Ninetails is probably the best boss. Because the rival is basically ALWAYS the best boss.

>> No. 181832
>>181831
That first spoiler is actually what really soured the game for me. I knew there was more, but I didn't think there was much more; so once I beat that part I thought the game was basically over.

On the one hand, it was nice to know that the game wasn't nearly that short. On the other, I had so much hype built up for that part that it felt like an air balloon deflating.

It's still a great game, but I think if they'd done that progression a bit differently I would have enjoyed it far more.

I just spent the day looking at let's plays of weird Japanese games, and man I am mystified why so many people spent so much effort defending the plots of Chrono Cross and Other M. Because on a technical storytelling level those games were total garbage.

(Also I never realized until now how weird the argument that Cross is a "grown up" version of Chrono Trigger, because it's just as goofy as Trigger. "It was naive to believe a world eating monster could be defeated with swords and fists"? Yeah clearly an axe-wielding mushroom and a fat chef would have made things work out better.)

I never said it was wrong to like it. Personally I think nobody should have to justify why they like anything (I myself like a lot of outright crap), but people do anyway and with nonsensical arguments (that dismiss legitimate opinions on the game), like the aforementioned "realism" argument.

(Tying into that, something that may have honestly passed over my head: why do people (and the game itself!) keep saying Cross was about exploring what happens to prevented timelines? That's not what the plot was about at all! Fate/Lynx came from the good timeline, Chronopolis and the dragons were caused by the Time Crash experiments, the Dead Sea was caused by Serge...what does anything have to do with what Chrono did? Is it just Schala? Well that's a little misleading, since she's the only one that willingly entered that situation.
>> No. 181844

What I don't get is why people complain about Cross having a completely new story with little to no references to the previous one, when a ton of other RPG series do the EXACT same thing.
>> No. 181845
>>181844
Yeah, it's the exact opposite; it has way too many references to Chrono Trigger (an enormous amount of the backstory and the entire final boss has absoutely zero meaning if you haven't played Trigger), which means trying to judge Cross as a standaloneas like commonly suggested is impossible.

I decided, when Alex Navarro mentioned it was possible in a Bombin episode, to do a "mute" run, i.e. I pick "..." whenever possible and otherwise just let the timer run on any choice that doesn't give that option. It removes a lot of the stress, save for the big binary choices (in which I was tricked into thinking Toad's problem was urgent and went for the Tweedle over the Woodsman, fyi). The end result being that when the choice list came up I was pretty hilariously in the overwhelming minority save for like, 4 categories.

Don't play so fast and loose. Conserve your money and slowly build a strong lead before being a bully.
Unless someone did a high raise before the flop, call if you have a hand that consists of anything with a ten or higher.
If you have a suited hand, play, but don't go bet crazy. You'd be surprised how lucky you can get with riding on a flush.
Needless to say as well, if you have pocket anything, play.
Don't be afraid to fold. Better to at least stay in another round or two than staking it all on one.
The worst hand you can possibly have is a 2 7 offsuit; The lowest cards with no connecting chance of a straight or a flush. Even when they're suited, it's usually not a risk worth taking.
Once you have built up enough of dominance over everyone else, start being a bully. Go with crazy bets, maybe even all-ins just to steal the pot. This can even play into knockouts, forcing an opponent with little cash left and a subpar hand to play anyway in their attempt just to stay in the game.
Don't bluff. Or at the very least, don't bluff like a fool. Make sure you have dominance over who you're bluffing with and DEFINITELY DON'T bluff against someone who has money to kick around.
If you feel that you pretty much have a winning hand on the flop and are feeling a bit greedy, milk your opponents rather than betting large. Check on the flop. If they check with you, then start doing minimum bets and small raises and they're more likely to play along the rest of the round.
More often than not, simply playing it safe will earn you more wins than losses.

Okay so that third's pretty cool. You've got ANOTHER Virgil in Oki, going through time to meet Baby Sakuya, some more great music, some neat stuff.

I was both wrong and right about Ninetails being the peak though. As far as actual antagonists go she was easily the tops, as the owls don't speak (sadly, I'd been hoping they'd be evil gentlemen or something) and neither does Yami, who doesn't help his case by being a fish. BUT the owls are a cool boss fight and holy CRAP the Yami fight's great. Kamiya ends his games STRONG.

The original games. You can't go wrong with Castlevania I and III (maybe even II if you can accept its weird concepts. If you do play II, you should probably just follow a guide). Just solid action platformers that, while challenging, are still very fun and a blast to pick-up and play. Also, play the Japanese version of Castlevania III (there are English-patched versions of it floating out there). It's arguably the better between that and the US release.

Super Castlevania IV has the best controls. If the somewhat-restrictive controls of the NES games are bumming you out, this one feels like freedom with its eight-way whipping and mid-air control. This is essentially a retelling of Castlevania I but with a lot more additions and gives a lot more for the players who have played the original I.

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is the game that created the basis of almost all future Castlevania releases. Taking a page out of the Metroid franchise, this game ridded the stage-by-stage progression of the previous and has the entire game take place in a giant castle with many paths, bosses, and secrets. This also has a strong RPG element of equipment, leveling up, and weaknesses and strengths. This one is an absolute must-play even if you don't intend to play the others.

If you really think you're in it for the (somewhat-)long haul, try playing and completing these games in this order:
-Castlevania I
-Castlevania II: Simon's Quest (maybe)
-Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse
-Super Castlevania IV
-Castlevania: Rondo of Blood (not to be confused with Castlevania: Dracula X)
-Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
The GBA and DS games take a gameplay quite similar to Symphony, but are arguably not as engaging though still quite good. After Symphony, try any of those out and see how they tickle your fancy. Proceed how you like.

As for the Lords of Shadow series, eh, you can probably do without.

For the love of god stay away from Judgement. I like the two 64 games and even I can't stand that game.

Curse of Darkness was kind of fun. Wish more was done with St. Germain.

Lords of Shadow was just kind of blah. Patrick Stewart was great and all but otherwise it was bland. Might as well play God of War.

I really enjoyed Lords of Shadow. It has some amazing setpieces, which are one of the most important things in spectacle fighters and the combat was surprisingly deep. Most people talking shit about it, probably haven't even played it (or just played about half an hour with their minds already made up, just so that they can say it's shit). People are just supremely buttflustered by the game because it's not a real Castlevania game, despite the name, and they fear for the future of the franchise.
And I'll be honest, if the spectacle fighter ones really are the only Castlevania games that get made from now on, I'll be fucking mad too. Even though I enjoy them a lot. But they aren't Castlevania games.

>Ok the art team was good too. Sometimes.

Wow, are you fucking seriously that bitter? The game is goddamned beautiful from start to finish, don't let bitterness blind you to that.

And no, those Giants weren't rip offs, because they are fucking Giant Golems, it's a common trope, it would be liking calling anything with elves or faeries a rip off, it's a common mystical creature.

And man, that story was INCREDIBLE, Finding out the Lords of Shadow are also the Founders of The order? Marie being used by God? Fucking amazing Zobek's revelation? Claudia's Death and the fight with the Black knight? Pan jerking you around? ANYTHING INVOLVING LAURA?

>Gameplay wise, it was no Devil May Cry or Bayonetta.

...WHY IN FUCK WOULD YOU COMPARE IT TO EITHER? Okay, I don't think you understand the game at all, it's real strength is not fighting, IT'S PLATFORMING AND PUZZLE SOLVING, 70% of the game is platforming and puzzle solving.

One of the reasons there is so much Platforming is that they want you to enjoy how FUCKING GORGEOUS THE GAME IS.

The fighting is not a clone of anything and just because a chain whip is involved does not make it a God of war clone, The fighting is based on the idea of resource management, while you fight you build focus, you build focus you neutral magic energy which you then decide what to do with, White magic will allow you to heal yourself, Black magic you deal massive damage.

It is a system based on a very simple concept "If a player is button mashing I want them to get buttfucked."

I get the distinct feeling that you really haven't played it.

>>182041
And yeah, not a Castlevania game in any traditional sense, but a breath of fresh air from Metroidvanias.

What's to comprehend? They are fun games but they have no staying power, you were never gonna get Castlevania back on the console like that, the series needed a change, BADLY. Konami knew that and they barely know anything so David Cox takes the series on a spin, puts his toys back in the box when he's done and Konami has a modern fanbase.

The fun comes after when we watch them fuck it up and piss us all off as hard as they have the Silent Hill fanbase.

But Cox and his crew were a VERY good thing for Castlevania as lords of Shadow is one of the most fun platformers out there, question anything you want but if you are talking shit about it's platforming you are a rube.

And I say all this as someone whose favorite Castlevania is Order of Eccelstia.

Demon's Souls and Dark Souls have done well with map designs that are pretty much 3D Metroidvania (i.e. game areas are distinct from each other and have observable "paths" of advancement but those paths also branch out and come back together, there's a decent amount of freedom in what order you can do them in, and the areas are interconnected), though they don't have the "unlock this power to advance" aspect. LOS is "book style" Every level, once played in sequence can be revisited and replayed to rediscover to secrets or just for the fun and beauty of the scenery.

>>182061
It refers to a genre but also to the change in the Castlevania series following Symphony Of The night where the games basically became Metroid with with swords and when we say Metroid it's specifically the side scrollers.

Lords of Shadow is something you'd compare more to Uncharted or Tomb Raider in terms of puzzles and platforming (which is really what it's about) and some odd place between God of War, a tactical resource management game and a rhythm game (which is okay, nothing to write home about, unless we're talking about 2 in which case it looks FUCKING INCREDIBLE AND WAY BETTER), s'pretty damn solid and a lot of fun. it's easily understood as a split in the fanbase when looked at in context of the other games, basically you've got three types of fans, Early Castlevania which was a tough side scroller point A to B style game (No Simon's quest doesn't count), Symphony Of The Night and on's Metroidvanias and finally, which Lords of Shadow a good, viable 3D Castlevania after YEARS AND YEARS of garbage attempts they have something that's got fans, which it has because it's good, not the greatest but a nice proof of concept for 2.

or like me you, y'a know, just like pretty much all Castlevania (say what you will about Lament of Innocence this is one of the greatest Castlevania songs and in a series with music like Castlevania that's is FUCKING SAYING SOMETHING.)

Tank controls are there for the same reason fixed camera angles are: cheap scares via shitty mechanics hampering the player's ability.

Like most bad mechanics, a game isn't necessarily crippled by just one or two. Eternal Darkness is good despite the fixed angles, and RE4 (which I got off PSN last night because it's the only RE I've ever liked) has tank controls but it's good (though less so than ED).

And then you have the "classic" REs, which heap tank controls, fixed camera angles, and many, many other terrible traits together to create TRUE abominations unto the vidya.

Tom Bissell has a chapter about Resident Evil in his book Extra Lives, and I think he does a really good job of summarizing why Resident Evil captured the gaming public's imagination despite being in almost all ways rather awful: it was new. The weird camera angles, the pre-rendered backgrounds, the clunky controls, the incredibly limited saves...even the voice acting, terrible though it was. I mean this was three years before Silent Hill. Resident Evil was something weird and new, and that's why it grabbed people so strongly, despite its faults.

Has it aged well? Absolutely not, and anyone who tells you differently is a fucking liar. The REmake was about as good as the game could get without transforming it into something fundamentally not Resident Evil, but even that could never have the same effect as the original had when it was first released.

People who are considered smarter than other people often like the Marx Brothers, who are less well known among the mainstream. This makes memes regarding the Marx Brothers high class. Everyone gets Portal references, and this makes references to Portal low class.

The secret to understanding the difference between classy and low class jokes and pop culture references is understanding that class is mostly about proving to yourself you're better than other people. Then it becomes obvious why something that doesn't let you feel superior to others is garbage regardless of any other qualities.

I was just miffed at how the some of the people who say video games should be respected also constantly put down video games, but that makes a surprising amount of sense. It's having your cake and eating it too; they want video games to being stop being something disrespected for, but don't want to be associated with something that would get them disrespected.

There's also a time aspect to this. There was a time when the Marx Brothers were a major part of culture. Now, not so much, and we also see things oversaturated with mind-numbing ease now, whereas even 50 years ago, information could take months, if not years to travel. Now, everything spreads so fast that it's practically dead on arrival for some people.

I was just saying, with a game that tried to take itself as seriously as LoS did, it could have done well to leave out most of the the 'comedic' references.

Which are seriously overplayed these days anyway.

I mean in the sense of overall abundance. I can't remember the last game I played that didn't have a reference or homage to an earlier work or painfully overused contemporary gag/meme. Though I don't doubt for a minute that they exist, I'm just sick of seeing the same lame jokes everywhere I go. Especially when it doesn't fit at all, like it's just shoved in there simply to try to be more popular.

It's like the equivalent of a fart joke for me. I don't really care about how much "smarter or classier" it's supposed to make me feel, otherwise you shouldn't doubt for a minute I would be using my name and gloating like a politician.

A bad overused and misplaced joke is just that. A cheap ploy. Something that shows we don't have to be clever as long as we can just be say the phrase of the week to make people go "I get it!". I guess a lot of people don't care about that but I prefer to see a lot less of that in my medium.
>> No. 182339
>>182337
No, you got the above points backwards, a reference in a modern work is NOT trying to be "smarter or classier", it's trying to be funny. And it's because it's not the former it gets under people's skin especially.

It would be kinda funny if decades from now portal references are considered historically a stock joke, like Peter Lorre impressions.

Like most memes, it already is a stock joke.

Luckily, I think people are getting burnt out on 'meme culture' and we can get back to actual clever jokes and references that are actually relevant. You know, unless something worse comes along to fill the gap.

Ah, I get it now. I still disagree with references being any more/less abundant than they were in the past or will be in the future; Good Old Days like what >>182342 is going for don't really exist except for in reteospect.

I guess it's not so much the use of references, and to a much much lesser degree memes and bad jokes, but more the consistent reuse of the same ones over and over. It gets grading.
>> No. 182348
>>182347
sign that. Portal was funny but a lot of the "cake is a lie" jokes you find in other games are just like a wink and a nudge to the original reference and they aren't really funny on their own. With Portal the gag worked because it was actually a gag. In other works, it's just a reference that we're all supposed to get because we're all familiar with gaming culture.

The problem with... "meme culture" is that people us punchlines as jokes. If you want to referenc something, then fine, but make your own joke of it, don't just parrot af a punchline and expect the audience to laugh at the joke you're referencing.

Fuck Castlevania.

I can get through all 6 stages in a single continue. But Dracula? He takes me MULTIPLE continues. Not only do I need to stock up on hearts for like 5 minutes, but I have to make sure I don't take any damage from his first form, even when he teleports right on fucking top of me. And the second form? FUCK. THAT. He NEVER jumps high enough to where I can run under him, meaning once you're up against the wall you have no choice but to take damage, and he takes a BILLION hits. Sure you can stun him with the holy water but it's required anyway, and getting a double-shot from his fireballs only happens once in a blue waffle.

Fuck.

Half Life 2. When Valve announced they would be doing episodes, the idea of episodic gaming had been around for a year or two, but Valve specifically said that they'd be able to use the idea to get "episodes" out every three months; instead, Ep 1 took almost two years, Ep 2 took almost a year and a half, and then they never finished the fucking story.

Which is not to say that episodic gaming has never worked; Telltale is very involved in episodic gaming, and has done well off of it. Most other devs are having a serious problem with the idea, though.

I think part of it, especially for Valve, is that they thought they could write each episode after the next was released, instead of writing a grand story to begin with and then putting parts of that into each episode.

Incidentally, the problems around Ep 1/2 were part of the creation of the creation of Valve Time. https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Valve_Time

I really kind of felt "through the looking glass" for all of Saints 4.

I mean, it's goofy and it's fun and it's great but there's a point where you keep going back into the VR simulation and the whole thing just feels further and further removed from what the game was originally about. The super powers are really neat but it kind of underlines the point that the vanilla "simulation" is somehow boring or flawed. Certainly from a story perspective, the simulation seems like "fluff". Perhaps continuing within the simulation was the best way to make the game work, but I can't help but feel like the "I have no mouth and I must scream" scenario was possible the whole time I'm in the simulation. I'm supposed to beat the bad guy and have fun doing it? Too good to be true. I was kind of hoping that was a hidden ending for doing all the homie missions
>> No. 182670
>>182668
Doing all the homie missions does unlock a slightly different ending. If you didn't do them all, you don't get the ending that reveals the Zin were dabbling in time travel and cloning various people from Earth's history, leading the Saints to go on a crazy road trip through time and possibly finding a way to alter history to save the Earth from annihilation. Also, this good ending reveals the narrator to be Jane Austen.

Pretty much here:
>>182660

So much of it felt so forced and contrived. And it relied way too much on references to other Saint's Row games as well as other games and movies in general. In the end, it left me wanting to play Saint's Row 2 and 3 more. That's great, we can make references to the Matrix, I'm guffawing. The entire premise left me disconnected and it felt like there wasn't any consequence to my actions. When you did crazy shit in the previous two games, there was always that reciprocation from authority, almost like the thrill you got when you TP'd someone's house or egged their car. Some of you might argue that "Well, in the Third, a lot of that vandal thrill was lost" and, well, you're absolutely correct. I just feel that 4 completely did away with that thrill all together.

I hate to be a downer, but I just finished it to get it over with and then uninstalled. It just felt like a chore to play and I only finished it because it was a gift from a friend. Even then, the coop wasn't as good as it was in previous games due to the new player skills.

Yeah, there may be nothing special about "being a gangsta in the street" but SR4 really feels divorced from even that basic simulation of "you vs. the cops". Making mischeif and causing havoc aren't quite as much fun when almost the instant you touch down, zin are popping out of those warp bubbles. It's like you can't interact with the city on a certain level anymore and that level of interaction was one of the primary draws.
