So Steam Train is a huge ball of shit but Grumps is still pretty good.

TBFP as usual is the best.

I like Dan so far, he seems to be following up on Jon as the more excitable and childish of the duo, except his vibe is less "spoiled brat" and more "flighty manchild". On the one hand it means he's more likely to stay on topic and not complain for stupid reasons. On the other hand the mock tantrums were one of the funniest things about Jon both on GG and his own channel.

Ross on the other hand is pretty fucking insufferable. Although I'm not sure how much of it is specifically his fault and how much of it is other reasons like the format of Steam Train or the lack of chemistry between the two.

I agree with people on a few points on all this grump business.

Everything was WAY too sudden and too fast, just suddenly JONS GONE, HERES DAN! They should have had some kind of transition video or something.

They really should change the intro, its just... wrong...

To me, it's sort of like Jon & Arin were the UK Top Gear, while I'm worried Ross & Dan are becoming the American Top Gear.

The UK one is a car show, they both are, but a lot of the viewership comes from people who are completely disinterested in cars, who just like the chemistry from the three hosts, and how funny they all are, how they work off each other so well. Meanwhile, the American equivalent is a straightforward car show with three random guys who have no chemistry, and aren't funny as a result.

I agree, Ross is fucking horrible and is basically Arin 2.0 but with zero charm and a grating-ass voice. Dan's alright but he's trying too hard to be Jon 2.0.

The Game Grumps theme v.2.0 sounds awful with Dan trying to copy Jon's "Not so Grump", they should just make a new one altogether. I fear for how he's going to do the Game Grumps VS theme considering I doubt he has the same musical training history..

Dan's OK but I notice that Arin is still making most of the funnies and Dan's amusing comments usually fall on the heels of Arin's. He's not as good at starting jokes as Jon was so it feels like he's relying on Arin as a crutch.

Pretty much this. While Dan's not as terrible as I was afraid he would be he stills sounds like he's trying too hard to be a second Jon. Jon can get away with it because he has just the right set of vocal cords and delivery that he can act like an idiot and still be funny at the same time. Dan on the other hand reminds me of this fluffy bunny Wiccan and Communist kid I used to go to high school with who liked to pretend to be a little girl and pull out this pretend-child voice or drag out her syllables whenever she wanted to sound "cute", only it was incredibly annoying instead of charming.

I have a feeling it's something he's consciously doing because it's not as noticeable in Steam Train, which thankfully isn't a Steaming Pile of Shit anymore, but between him not knowing when to shut up and Ross's general dryness I have little hope for it becoming actually interesting either anytime soon. Since Dan said that he does pay attention to fan reaction, hopefully he'll realize that so far what he does onscreen is a lot more interesting than what he has to say, and maybe try to be his own person more.

Jon's thing isn't just that he's a screaming retard, it's that he's actually doing emotional comedy similar to a lot of other youtube people (think Africanob0i). The humor is in the over-reaction. Egoraptor was always the strait guy but it kind of relied both on Jon's and Ego's charm and a certain amount of star power they both carried. I don't mind the new guy but he's less of a comedic foil the way Jon was for Arin. He isn't that much different from Arin in terms of where they're coming from or how they react to things.

TBF also seems to have a one up in that they all seem to be playtesters, and actually contribute some interesting knowledge about the game they're playing, even if it's amidst scads of bad jokes and personal insults. Jon and Arin lack that inside lowdown, being only outside commentators. One of my biggest gripes with Game Grumps originally was that neither Jon nor Arin could point out technical or design flaws in a game or talk about why something was really bad. TBF actually kind of do this, even if they're not really exhaustive for most of these games.

Okay so I watched all of Steam Train to try and give it a fair chance, Ross is so fucking forced in everything he says and does I can't stand it.

Dan is actually pretty great though now that he's feeling freer to talk about what he enjoys like Sports and put on less airs.

I think the directions they've tried to go have worked very hard against Ross and very hard for Danny though, for instance Grumps have been non-stop Danny's favorites since he jumped on the show, Ross meanwhile, due the very nature of Steam Train is working with games he's never played and...despite buying doesn't really give a shit about and really leeches through and adds to how fucking terrible I find him compared to Danny who is honestly eager to talk about his enthusiasm like Sports despite that clashing with Ross and Arin.

In short Dan found his footing, Grumps sans intro is great.

Steam Train feels like you put a gun to Ross and Dan's head and told them "BE GAME GRUMPS EVEN THOUGH YOU HAVE TO FAKE THE SHIT OUT OF IT and their intro is actually great."

Please let this be trolling. Please. A duder can't die at 34 right after he gets married. Especially when, at least to me, he WAS Giant Bomb. Jeff, Matt, Patrick, etc., they're all great, but he was kind of the centerpiece of the site. This isn't real. This can't be happening.

Weirdly enough, I like Ross better. I don't think GG could be Ross and Arin, though, because they're too alike. Heck, I'm still testing the water to see if Danny and Arin are too alike. They're both really funny, don't get me wrong, but I find polar opposite extremes to be even funnier.

I always thought Jon's screaming was legit. I never understood why people thought LP'ers (including You-Know-Who) were fake-screaming. Why would someone even do that? I just figured they were masochists who intentionally picked games they either knew they'd hate or were terrible at, because raging is funnier. That's why I could never do LP's. I wouldn't spend money on games I knew were shit, or that weren't my cup of tea.

His obesity and general lack of exercise have been a cause of concern by many fans for a while. His heavy breathing was so loud it got picked up by the microphones of the other crew members. And he was completely out of breath every time he waddled only a few feet over to his chair for TNTs. Among all the "Ryan is fat" jokes there were many people who were genuinely worried. I kind of agree. Ross isn't great, nor is he all that funny, but Dan is kind of annoying on Steam Train in contrast to how he is on Game Grumps. He's doing the same things as Jon in talking too much to try to fill the silent gaps, but he isn't as good in cracking jokes on his own. Ross's humor is mostly him snarking at random stuff, which works sometimes and doesn't on others, so when it falls flat it's easier to ignore. If someone dies, and the news of that death spurs five thousand different people to post comments expressing a personal feeling of loss... marveling at how much of an amazing positive force that person was, at their honesty and integrity and humor... sharing how this person has been a positive presence in their life for over a decade?
