Wii U thread hit autosage and I can't find the (3)DS thread, so Nintendo General. Wii U thread: >>166771

>Madden NFL 25 Will Not Come to Wii U
http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/05/02/madden-nfl-25-will-not-come-to-wii-u
While I have 0 interest in sports games, they're a pretty big part of consoles; that the Wii U won't see an entry for this year is going to be a big hit for Nintendo trying to expand interest in the platform. I would have thought the GamePad would have been an excellent input device for it, too, for things like plays and so forth. Maybe EA is just being lazy and don't see enough return from a Wii U version, considering the work they'd have to do with the Gamepad instead of just saying Square->A?

>Nintendo Tells Wii Owners That Wii U is ‘Not Just an Upgrade’
http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/05/01/nintendo-tells-wii-owners-that-wii-u-is-not-just-an-upgrade
lololol. They sent a message to the Wii mail system to try to convince Wii owners to get a Wii U. Still missing the point. I haven't fired my Wii up in a few months despite getting new games for it, perhaps I should just to see this message.

This is being pitched (not made, as they're going to do a Kickstarter to get funding for this) by a "Precursor Games", which I can find 0 information about and their own website (http://www.precursorgames.com/) appears to be slammed from this news

But if this works out, and if it's good (and makes good use of the GamePad), it will be a very nice addition to the Wii U.

I'm not surprised. I think we're seeing a cycle with Nintendo consoles emerge:
SNES > Wii
N64 > Wii U
Gamecube > Wii U 2?

So Nintendo's next great console will be part of the 10th generation, probably around 2021. And, just like the SNES>N64 path, Nintendo was complacent with their market dominance (Wii, SNES), held onto outdated tech and ideas, and screwed the pooch on the next console (Wii U, N64).

I agreed with that article until he started talking about Zelda. The more dialogue/story central focus began with LttP, not with the N64 or Gamecube era. And I also think it was the proper direction for the series.

I completely agree with his thoughts on the controller, though.

This article makes a lot of the same points that Sean Malstrom's blog used to. So does this one, by the same guy: http://gengame.net/2013/05/the-great-hardcore-lie-exposed-wii-did-not-lose-core-gamers/#more-35724

The tone of writing is kind of similar too, and the sense of disdain for the hardcore gamer is there. Malstrom is just a pen name so I'm wondering if the two are actually the same guy.

>The same goes for Metroid, which since the first Prime has cast aside its open-world structure for a more linear, plot-delivered format.

I disagree with this part. I really didn't think Metroid Prime was linear. The third one was, and I haven't played the second, and Other M is a whole can of bullshit I wont even get into, but the first was fine in this regard imo.

>>173838
>The more dialogue/story central focus began with LttP, not with the N64 or Gamecube era.
Eh, not really. LttP had more dialogue and story than the previous games did but I definitely wouldn't say the game focused on it. OOT had way more dialogue and cut scenes than LttP, though I might say Zelda didn't become a story game until MM.

I haven't played Link's Awakening, so I don't know how story centric that one is.

>I haven't played Link's Awakening, so I don't know how story centric that one is.
There are actual cut scenes (a memorable one is Marin talking to Link while they stand on the beach), but there are far less characters and dialogue than LttP.
>> No. 173850
>>173849
I should specify that a "cut scene" for this game means they change the camera from a top-down view to a third-person ground view, and it's a fairly static scene with a few animations it loops through while text boxes scroll normally on the bottom. Still, it tries to be more cinematic in these important moments (like revealing the Windfish and purpose of the island)

If you want Nintendo to truly thrive in age of mobile computing, however, I'd suggest a willingness to go even further: bring Super Mario to my iPhone.

Nintendo releases on non Nintendo properties is the of a fantasy of the ignorant and foolhardy. Nintendo already has a portable system to sell their old games. Thats because it was just sold in a bundle at a time when Wiis were both popular and hard to find. Granted, Mario Kart is way bigger now than it was in the Gamecube days.

The Tier-3 game + bundle idea can work if they just get the system's price down. I can imagine them selling 10 million WiiUs during the holidays with a Mario Kart 8 bundle.

With the recent news of devs dropping support for the Wii U, it's good to hear Sega is still in it for the long haul:

>The solid market share of SEGA titles on Wii U and 3DS seems to be set for a reward with software support in the coming year. SEGA says it has seven SKUs — which could be a full seven new games or, alternatively, less games but including additional planned special editions — due for release on Wii U in the coming year, the same number that's planned for PS3; the Xbox 360 is only being supported with four releases. The 3DS is also in line for decent SEGA support with six SKUs planned for the coming year, though no releases are planned for the DS; in the case of both Nintendo systems, the company is estimating results of just under one million software sales on each platform. That's nearly two million planned sales on Nintendo systems, a vote of confidence for the consoles, coming in a little behind Sony (which also has PSP games helping out PS3 and Vita) and SEGA's most valuable platform, PC.

>Fueled by the runaway success of its hit title, GungHo’s share price jumped nearly 29% to 1,342,000 yen in mid-afternoon trade extending gains following its strong earnings announcement last week. So they can't get FB3 on the Wii U, but they can get a close cousin on major mobile platforms. Right.

So they're probably just making excuses for not publishing on the Wii U. It would actually do more good if they would come out and say "we don't think it's financially feasible to develop for the Wii U based on adoption rate." And, you know, make EA a tiny amount less of a shit company.

While they've been notoriously hard to deal with for a long time (like that BS where if you want to make an N64 game you also had to make a Virtual Boy game), they loosened up a lot for the Wii, and it seems like they are really trying (and failing) to court third parties because they realize no one will buy their console without them.

They even did the thing for the eShop where devs can name their own prices and do sales and so forth.

While I have nothing to back this up, my theory is that the ! takes the two ideas and makes it into one word; because of this, it can be processed faster by the brain, where someone reading quickly will only look at the beginning and end of the word and deduce the rest, meaning you can take in more words at a time. Someone types "WindWaker!Zelda" and your brain sees "Win" and "lda", which with context fills in the rest of the word so you don't have to read every letter.

It also puts more emphasis on the subject, and is similar to some tagging systems (#hashtag).

The galaxy games brought a lot of originality to the Mario series and the 3DS one was an interesting experiment in spite of its simplicity. The NSMB series is just an attempt to please fans of the original style and it sells well for them; I got no beef with it.

Skywrd Sword was a far cry from the worst and my only real complaint seems to be getting addressed in the next one (linearity having a vice like hold on progression) that and it brings a lot of changes to a series many where complaining to feel stagnant.

Metroid was a screwup. I didn't mind the game mechanics, but there's a mountain of other issues I had with it.

Nintendo has experienced with tons of new IPs in the past 10 years and have used other popular IPs for other experiments (kirby anyone?).

The only Wii sports style game I can think of at the moment is the one released with thw Wii U to show off what it can do. Other than that I dont think they're concentrating on that sort of game.

Shit controls (especially the beetle/flying controls)
Artstyle that makes everyone's face look pretty awful (NOSES)
Fi Fi Fi Fi Fi Fi Fi Fi Fi
Extreme linearity
Overabundance of fetch quests, even in the main storyline

Groose and Ghiharam are the only good things about it really. SS is an insult to the crown jewel that is Wind Waker, and not only does it not measure up to the also pretty great TP and MM, it doesn't even match the hilariously basic OoT. It's a bad game. Not to mention the STUPID amount of backtracking, the 1:1 controls making it more difficult than necessary to hit enemies and not being implemented as well as it could've been, the sky having fuck-all in it, the handholding OH GOD the handholding, and the writing sucks because we already know how it ends because Nintendo likes to focus on the story and timeline WAY more than necessary and Fi is the WORST. Don't get me wrong. I enjoyed Skyward Sword for what it was. It definitely had a lot of good aspects, namely the items and dungeons as well as the graphics and characters. I agree with the last ones, but what the fuck to the first three. SS may not have had the best dungeons overall, but most of them were fairly decent and better than Twilight Princess's mediocre to awful ones (ice mansion full of LttP tier block puzzles and confusing beam layout to artificially pad out its length, that whole Oocoo level where all you get is a second hookshot). Not to mention this was the first time a Zelda had a water dungeon that was actually somewhat enjoyable.

And I don't get why people keep shitting on SS's controls compared to Nintendo Land Zelda's. I never actually had much of a problem with any of them, and aside from sword jabs if I fucked up it was usually my own fault.

Oh lord what's wrong with you
Those were the parts of the game that made the annoyances (Fi and the skyworld) worth it. Skyward Sword's Ancient Cistern is a high point for the entire series, the art style is beautiful, and the beetle and flying controls are if anything too EASY. Ghirahim and Groose are high points, but they sure as fuck aren't the only ones.

Okay on this you have a point. They really dropped with ball with Fi, but ONLY because they tried to make her a gigantic nanny. If you strip away the "HEY YOUR HEARTS ARE LOW" and "HEY YOUR BATTERIES ARE LOW" there's really nothing to complain about here.

>Extreme linearity

Somewhat valid. Except it had fewer than Wind Waker.

>If you strip away the "HEY YOUR HEARTS ARE LOW" and "HEY YOUR BATTERIES ARE LOW" there's really nothing to complain about here.

I mean, I didn't mind Fi, either, but she had the habit of saying things that the player just saw in cutscenes. Show, don't tell, and whatnot.

I suppose I should clarify that I did like the sword controls at least, and of course the aiming is no different than it was in TP. I honestly don't know how you could defend the beetle/flight stuff though, it just felt awful.

The artstyle's flaw is in the faces. Almost every normal human character, and Zelda in particular, looks dreadful. Monsters/more stylized characters look fine. The environments tend to be bogged down with really terrible textures.

>>174262
>If you'd said "a few dungeon bosses were junk" I'd agree. I didn't find the dungeons bad.
I suppose not "bad" as in "Water Temple" but I struggle to remember many of them, the robot one is really the only one that sticks in my memory. Boring I guess.... so "Spirit Temple." The bosses varied, some were fun (I liked the Ghirahim fights, Koloktos, and Demise in particular) some weren't (Scaldera is one of the lamest in Zelda history).

You have just forfeited any credibility. They went for a bunch of weirdos, but that's a good thing. The people were so expressive and each one had personality oozing out of them compared to earlier titles. It's impossible to praise Wind Waker's character design and condemn this one in the same breath for such a thing, when it's the major strength of BOTH.

Alright alright.

Whatever the case, I've accepted, albeit with resentment, that they're never going to do another proper cel shaded entry (PH and ST pretty much killed the look anyway), so I'd like Nintendo to instead go back to the basic design strategy of my second favorite Zelda: "Let's be fucking terrifying/as fucked up as possible." There was a bit of this in TP with /that/ scene, but for the most part Majora was their one go at this. But that one go around showed that clearly, Nintendo is squandering their potential ability to make kids completely evacuate their bowels.

Fascinating article on how Nintendo let the Wii brand turn to shit. I'm familiar with most of these negative Wii/Wii U articles, but it's quite something when you see them all compiled up. Essentially, they all hit these same notes:

>Wii/Wii U is collecting dust

>X publisher has no plans for Wii U
>Bad Wii U sales continue
>Wii U is dead/Nintendo should go third party

And despite the Sonic exclusive news, Nintendo is still getting creamed with bad press like the Youtube controversy, April's NPD numbers, and more Wii U eulogies from big sites like gamesindustry.biz.

Because Video Game Journalism, like actual journalism, is all about preconstructed narratives, and these people have basically been waiting for Nintendo to collapse and die since the Gamecube underperformed. The Wii, with all it's goofy motion controls and weaker graphics, was, in their minds, meant to kill Nintendo (and the weak library gave them cause to claim a partial victory there- hence 'dust off the Wii)

Now, with the WiiU actually doing poorly, they can go back to tearing Nintendo apart pitiously, exactly the same way they will go after Sony and Microsoft once the PS4 and the Durango also launch dead in the water.

I've said it before, I'll say it again. Nintendo knows what it's doing and only really does what it needs to do to stay competitive and alive. They're a waterbear. They don't care, and they aren't going anywhere.
This generation's Xbox is pretty much a middle finger, aimed riiiiight at the consumer by proxy of the X-box from the industry. It's a middle finger that says, "We own the games, you pay to lease them, your lease is temporary and dies with the system, you do not own the data, you can only take the data with you in ways we mandate are acceptable. Sports sports sports, racing racing racing, Kardashians Kardashians Kardashians, shooter shooter shooter."

Frankly, I'd rather not be nickel and dimed just to access the content I've already paid for. I'd rather play my games without the necessity of online mode, I'd rather be able to edit and tinker with shit on mediums I've PAID to OWN. Because they're entrenched. The niches they own lock stock and barrel, the college football, the soccer, the racing, the sims. These are fandoms of people that exist as a culture outside of EA (unlike Nintendo and its franchises, which applies to only gamers) who see video games as only a means to interact with their fandom of choice.

Sims, Racing and Sports gamers are absolutely ambivalent about most anything else in the industry, because that's all they do. They play Sims, they race and they handegg or povertyball. They do it in ridiculous numbers, they do it on whatever system has the official stuff for brand recognition, and EA has the monopoly on official sports titles. They can then shake down every fan who plays these games the way that furry artists shake down 30-something autists of their money in DLC, extraneous online fees and more.

They're a bit like the deep south. No matter what the politicians do, so long as they dip into that recognizable brand of the populace (evangelical christianity, in this case) they will always be forgiven, and in fact, their consumers will turn a blind eye to the things they do.

The only way to REALLY hurt EA would be if sports suddenly stopped being popular in America, or the guys behind the sports wanted to renegotiate having EA exclusively host their licenses and brands. It could happen, but it'd depend on the greed of the sports companies.

Everyone knows early adopters are going to pay the most for a console and that price will be a constant for a few years. So, what we're seeing is the consumer base, at least part of it, making its decision. They've waited on the Wii U not because it's horrible but rather because it wasn't outstanding. Those buying the Wii U were either the hardcore base or the gambler. I suspected that many would wait until Sony and Microsoft would present their offerings before making their decision on which to get.

This sales jump is just that; these particular people making their decision in favor of Nintendo.

This is what happens when you only have one GamePad per console. Asynchronous gameplay opens some interesting ideas, but people still want to be able to do co-op. And imagine the fun of competetive RPGs or sports where you can use your Gamepad to hide your choices.

But nooooo we had to have fucking streaming to the Gamepad and try to make it an XBOX HUEG screen instead of having a smaller one on each of multiple controllers.

Basic model was useless. Still, it seems extremely odd that they would do a recall over just selling what is in stock (or, if they're making way for a new model, doing a fire sale on the Basic).

Even though I recall a ton of Basic models just sitting around this past Christmas (with no Pro models in sight), I would think it better to get back some of the cost of producing them by fire sale rather than just recalling them all and... what? Letting them sit in a warehouse? Destroying them? Flash them for a smaller Asian/African/Middle Eastern market?

Actually, that last one would make a lot of sense. Cheap unit doesn't sell for shit in America, so take all the cheap units and replace them with a newer model, flash them for a different region, and sell them there instead (where the console prices are usually insane in the first place.)

>PES European community manager Adam Bhatti has been tweeting up a storm as fans continue to inquire about Konami’s decision in not bringing this year’s soccer game to Wii U.

>In one tweet, Bhatti said that there is “no demand for it”, though he went on to clarify that the Wii U’s install base is “tiny”. As a result, it “doesn’t make sense” to bring PES 2014 to the console.

>Bhatti went on to say that Nintendo doesn’t “have any relationship with 3rd parties really. Our games never do well.” Other tweets tackle the fact that previous games on Wii have had difficulty selling one million copies, a hint that Fox Engine isn’t running on Wii U, and… well, the entire lineup of tweets just aren’t favorable to Nintendo.

Eh. Shipping them in, parts cost, manual labor costs, and shipping back out sounds like it would only work if the entire process is cheaper than initial production and shipping, and I don't think it would be. You'd save a bit on overall parts, but the two-way shipping and extra labor (I imagine such a process couldn't be nearly as automated) probably pushes it over.

Gamestop has confirmed the "recall" of the Basic Model for the Wii U. Nintendo's official response is:
>"There is a current misperception about Wii U hardware. To clarify: Nintendo is working with its retail partners to simply rebalance the stock of the White 8GB and the Black 32GB Wii U models in the market. Consumers looking for either model will continue to find them available."

Whiiiiich means a whole lot of nothing. What I take from this is "Savvy gamers have no interest in the Basic model, so Gamestop has no interest in carrying them. We'll send Gamestop more Pro Models, while stores for the brain-dead plebians casual gamer like Wal-mart will get more Basic models."

The 3DS didn't seem that great that. The Wii U version seems to have potential, but since they were doing so much "oh wait here's this" in the demo, the action wasn't shown off as well.

The whole "cylindrical world with fixed camera" thing is going to take a bit to get used to, but it has promise.

I found it weird that the 3DS demo had loading screens. Whenever Sonic was flying through the air, there was nothing around him, and the game was loading the next section. Considering how short the areas were, and the fact that this isn't disc-based, I find it surprising. Additionally, there was far less going on in the 3DS version, including no animated backgrounds (a waterfall is prominent in the first part of the Wii version.)

It's a problem FOR the first party. Konami has no obligation to make an unprofitable port (no comment on whether this would BE one) in order to help the Wii U acquire more users.
>> No. 175507
>>175506
Agreed. Regardless of past relationships, game devs have absolutely no obligation to support console makers, short of an existing contract.

If Nintendo wants 3rd party support (and that sweet, sweet licensing cash), they need to focus on growing a larger base. And, not only that, but also a base with a larger attach rate. (If you ignore Wii Sports|plus|Resort, which were pack-in titles, the attach rate for the Wii was far lower than the 360 and Ps3, AFAIK). So millions of Grandmas buying a Wii U and Nintendo Land is not going to get more 3rd party support. There are a few ways to do this:
1) Come out with a first-party game ASAP that is guaranteed to sell units, but the speed will probably cost quality. (Is heavy 3rd party support worth potentially killing one of their own franchises?)
2) Lower the price significantly ($199 for Pro model.) This will be even less likely since they are recalling all the Basic models, which they might have dropped to an enticing price point but are utterly ignored by the main gaming scene.
3) Get the "second GamePad" thing working PDQ; a lot of games, from RPGs to Sports, will benefit from a set of people each having their own screen; thus far, asynchronous gameplay hasn't paid out any dividends, though it's opened up some interesting paths.
4) Put out a system that isn't gimped, caters to the more devout gamer, and has a worthwhile controller (whoops, too late.)

If they play their cards right, they might earn some goodwill off this E3 when the shitfest that is the Xbone and whatever the PS4 looks like get fully revealed; of course, the current dev attitude policies towards the Xbone is "slightly annoyed", but I'm sure publishers are eating this shit up. It also seems similar to PS4 policies, so we'll see.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if we see a Gen 8.5 where Nintendo goes "mulligan" and releases the Woo, a proper Wii successor. Make sure it can handle Wii U games so that those guys aren't left out in the cold, maybe offer a trade-in for Wii U systems to encourage purchasing the Woo, and just takes a do-over.

>1) Come out with a first-party game ASAP that is guaranteed to sell units, but the speed will probably cost quality. (Is heavy 3rd party support worth potentially killing one of their own franchises?)
The NSMB games are relatively cheaper to make, but it didn't seem to have as much draw as it did in the Wii days. I can't picture the Luigi expansion pack to draw in much more either. Pikmin 3 is really for the Nintendo fanatics that are already committed to the systems in the first place. Their biggest draw is going to be a new Zelda or 3D Mario, the later being the most likely at E3. But those aren't really the series they would skimp out on.
>2) Lower the price significantly ($199 for Pro model.) This will be even less likely since they are recalling all the Basic models, which they might have dropped to an enticing price point but are utterly ignored by the main gaming scene.
I actually think this is likely because of the removals. Maybe not in the close future, but down the line they might just rub out the basic models and lower the cost of the pro. Probably around the time of the other consoles launch if it does happen.
>3) Get the "second GamePad" thing working PDQ; a lot of games, from RPGs to Sports, will benefit from a set of people each having their own screen; thus far, asynchronous gameplay hasn't paid out any dividends, though it's opened up some interesting paths.
Agreed. The whole pad thing is not as enticing as being able to directly interact with a game, as was the Wii's main draw. Not being able to use 4 of them at a time really didn't help. That and the fact that they where so close to the Wii in branding most people probably just mistook it for a minor upgrade from the Wii.
>4) Put out a system that isn't gimped, caters to the more devout gamer, and has a worthwhile controller (whoops, too late.)
The actual controller is fine and surprisingly functional and comfortable. The problem is conveying that in an obvious way. The simple fact that people use tablets now isn't going to cut it, in fact, you have to show them how much better it is at interacting. And that might require some aggressive marketing on their part which isn't actually something Nintendo does. All their adverts and marketing are built around them existing alone, rarely even acknowledging the competition let alone pointing out their flaws in comparison.
>> No. 175510

>The actual controller is fine and surprisingly functional and comfortable.
Full disclosure: I've only held the GamePad for a few minutes at a time.

It is surprisingly lighter than you'd think, and the weight wouldn't be an issue; however, when I think of multi-hour gaming, I think of ergonomics. I still hold that the Gamecube controller is the best out there (though it still has issues, like the C-stick), and it was extremely comfortable to hold for hours at a time. The Gamepad is just a square, no ergonomics or form fitting in the least.

Speaking of marketing, the initial Wii commercials ("Wii would like to play") did a great job at explaining what the Wii does and getting consumers excited for it. The Wii U ads, on the other hand... itsfuckingnothing.gif

Also, part of the problem for the casual market is that Nintendo went backwards from having an interactive, 1-to-almost-1 movement recognition to sitting on the couch holding a tablet. Tablets are great for watching movies or quick games, not for immersive scenarios and high graphics. Nintendo really didn't get the trends when it put this thing together.

Also, I don't think we'll be seeing a new Zelda or 3D Mario at E3; if we do, it will be like the reveal of WW where it's A SINGLE FREAKING IMAGE and nothing more.

No, I think that aside from Pikmin 3, Nintendo will go all-in on SSBU. Not only is an insanely hot property amongst even the Nintendo-curious gamers, it's being made concurrently for the 3DS as well (I think? I don't know that this has changed), and Nintendo is still lingering there. So, having this property out on top will be a huge boost to both console and handheld, as well as helping them to drive holiday sales against the launch of the other consoles. Plus, this has supposedly been in development for a few years, so I could see them putting it out this year.

Pokemon XY will also be in the spotlight, but we already know about that and it won't have the same exciting reaction for it (especially because nothing major seems to have changed except the graphics. YET ANOTHER FUCKING GENERIC BIRD POKEMON.)

Welp, that was disappointing. Mario Kart 8 and new Super Smash Bros., two games the Wii U needs the drive up sales, won't come out until 2014. The new 3D Mario game is just an HD version of an 3DS game with more characters (knew something was up when Nintendo said a new one was coming this year). Wind Waker looks good, but it's just a Gamecube port with HD graphics. There's no games for 2013 that really sell the Wii U in terms of power or function.

I don't know what Nintendo is doing. I can't believe they expect Wii U consumers to keep waiting with the current software drought and third-party support dropping fast (Ubisoft considers the Wii U an abandon console now). It's only going to get worse when the PS4 arrives for $399 with better hardware and support.

I'm not sad that Retro's secret game was another Donkey Kong Country. I'm just not sure if it's worth a Wii U purchase when the 3DS will probably get the game in a year. The same goes for Smash Bros. and the 3D Mario World game.

No. Valve barely likes consoles to start with, and they've never done anything with Nintendo. (They first stuck to the 360 after hating the PS3, but then did both for major releases like Portal 2 when the 360 update policies turned out to be crap.)

No. Chell's portal gun allows for some interesting acrobatics, but it would be useless for fighting unless paired with other Portal items (and even then, having her pull out turrets or those plasma orbs would be way out of place). But, all of that aside, she's never been a fighter (unless you count burning cores). Neither has Villager, I suppose, but he's at least a Nintendo property.

Agreed. I like Falco and Wolf, but they can't think of anything different to do with them combat-wise. At least vary them a bit. I always thought, honestly, that it had nothing to do with Starfox Adventures' sales figures (since there's cameos from characters from games that sold worse). I suspected it had had more to do with companies that tend to sweep a female character under the rug if they end up finding a ton of porn of her. I mean, that's what killed Erin Esurance.

I actually wouldn't mind Krystal showing up using her staff powers from SFA and maybe something like an Arwing airstrike for her final smash. I think this idea that companies stop using a character who shows up in porn a lot is a myth, unless the character is also unpopular. Especially from a Japanese company, where they know full well how much money there is to be made off of horny otaku.

It's a total rumor. There's no confirmation at all from anywhere aside from Anonymous school yard tale tellers that Erin Esurance was shelved because of pornographic parodies. She was a temporary animated mascot with a super spy/secret agent motif, and she did her part in several commercials. Aside from Geico, no big insurance company has a serious long standing mascot. Flo might join that soon though, she's been a constant for a while now.

Anyways, Krystal wouldn't be any different from Fox but for tits.
I think the ideal would be either be Fox and Wolf for a villain representation (more important than waifu rep) with their current playstyles of similar Bs but drastic differences otherwise or Fox and Krystal with no similarities at all, but not more than two SF reps. It's not that strong of a series lately.

Megaman must have been a difficult inclusion. When they add a character like this, they look to make great effort to make sure they're characteristic of their real series counterparts. That they move the same, feel the same, sound the same.
Breaking down Megaman's trailer next post. This one seems long enough.

(Whoops, posted wrong image.) So if you missed it, A Link to the Past 2 is now called "A Link Between Worlds". What I find interesting is that the logo features an upside down Triforce.

Initially, this just seems like a Light World/Dark World thing. EXCEPT that I remembered the boss battle against Demise in Skyward Sword: His sword Ghirahim had an upside down, darkly-colored Triforce on it: http://www.zeldadungeon.net/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/zelda_skyward_sword_art-33.jpg

Could Demise have a connection to the new game? In addition, the Dark World vanished at the end of Link to the Past, so what is the other World involved? Finally, the end of LttP has "And the Master Sword sleeps again, FOREVER!", so is he just using a generic sword? Retcon?

Super Smash Bros. for 3DS/Wii …youtube thumb
Link so you don't have to go searching.

30 Seconds: We see his entrance. Mario comes up out of his pipe, DK bursts from his barrel, and Megaman ports down in classic stage begin fashion.

Next up is his movement. He runs at 3/4ths view, like in his classic games and his walk cycle looks similar. When he shoots he curls his other arm up towards his chest as well.
>NOTES: When he's facing left does his shooting arm change like a sprite switch? Can he only have three lemons on the screen at once?

Next, he's jumping and sliding, and both retain the quirky style of the original games. It reminds me of Arthur in MvC3. When they put him in, they made absolutely sure that his jumping and running and unique control methods were translated. This made him a shit tier character, but hey, tiers are for queers.

He roll dodges a couple times, dodges Bowser into the background, and then dodges Samus with a different dodge animation and proceeds to Shoryuken Samus in the ass. This isn't something he can do until X, but it's a great nod and good move choice if it serves well as a recovery as his ^B as I'm assuming it is.
>NOTES: Why does Megaman have two dodges? The first one is Shield and Down presumably, and then the second one is a swift duck which would only make sense as a move or as a Shield and Down dodge too. What's up? There's a Life Meter on Megaman's Mega Buster here, does it go up and down as his damage accrues and gets healed?

Next is Rush and the Charged Mega Buster. This looks a bit disappointing. It's like Samus' cannon more than the Mega Buster. Charging should have resulted in the telltale glowing particles and sound, not a shaky ball of energy outside the gun. Rush is shown briefly in his Rush Coil form, which lets Megaman leap substantially higher off the spring.
>NOTES: Is Rush Coil a move, can other Rush modes be utilized, is it just a taunt, an asisst trophy, item, or something like Sonic's ^B?

Megaman starts getting beat down, his hit stun animation is like his old school ones, staying true, and his death explosion and sound effect are perfect.

Now, the most important and hard to figure out/guess mechanic.
The Copy Ability. This is what sets Rock apart from the rest, and also will make or break the character.
In total, he exhibits the abilities of 9 Robot Masters, across all the games. Is this the limit, are there more, are there all, and how are they change to/from and how do they affect Megaman's playstyle?
My best guess is vB switches, and that alters your regular B move to be the Metal Blades, Crash Bomber, Leaf Shield, etc. That's easy, just hit B, they're projectiles. But some of the moves, like Hard Knuckle, we see that shoot downward. Is that from pressing vB, but can't be because that's what we guess swaps weapons. Is it just regular B? Is it vA? Probably regular B, and when you're on the ground it must shoot forward. We see Spark Shock hit upwards though.

I'm gonna have to get my hands on the blue bomber or some dev interviews on how he plays. I'm very excited.

I played Star Fox and 64, the ones that matter.
I played the game she originates to completion a decade ago. She does jack and shit, sir. She's a damsel in distress that plays the exact same for her measly 30 minutes or so as Fox does when he gets the staff, hell, she's even worse because she lacks the fireball and other special moves you get throughout the game. She made me quit the game twice before I finally powered through her section and saw the Great Fox.

What does she do in Assault and Command, tell me. Fly her Arwing differently? Have a Jetpack? She is literally Fox's Daisy but with less exposure and more fur.

There have been more cancelled Star Fox games than there have good Star Fox games. It's not as powerful a series as the fans imply it to be.

In Assault they drive the telepathic/ psychic angle more.
If we're talking about ANY Starfox character; all they do is: "shoot guns, fly jets, and drive tanks." Just like the Merio Bros are all the same. And yet they managed to give Captain Falcon and Fox unique movesets when all they're known for is using vehicles. I'm sure they could do something with blue-fox-slut to make her different and interesting. They probably will not since everyone that's had their hands on the series thus far (outside of the Command team) seems to just be ok without putting much effort or creativity into things, so if she ever shows up again they'll probably keep her the same old boring character she is now which is a damn shame because a psychic fighter pilot has a lot of potential. Not to mention tribal themes in a futuristic sci-fi setting.

In hectic fast paced fighters with busy backgrounds (Marvel or anything in the VS series and Smash Bros type games for instance) I like palettes better than outfits as outfits break up character silhouettes and can cause you to lose track of what's going on with that character if you're used to seeing them in a standard outfit normally. This gets even more problematic the more costumes you have.
