I think Brad kind of nailed it with the "you would be embarassed if someone saw you playing this" metric. The actual game looks fine but Kamitani severely hurt it with his jerkoff material.

Also Magic Shop Lady's tits appear to both be poorly attached to her and actively deflating, so it's good to see the perspective on the still art remains bad.

Man, when people just say it's his jerkoff material I have to say I instantly lose any of much respect for that person. It's hard to take anyone seriously unless you have proof he actually uses it to jerkoff. Attacking the dude for his art-style choices is pretty shallow. Knowing how long it takes people to make games, you have to be really confident in the final designs in order to stick with them for a few months to a few years, or however long it takes to be finished. At least with me, if I only drew a character because they were my ideal fap material, I wouldn't be invested in them as long as I might be unless I just liked them overall.

I'm in the camp that thought the designs were kind of sexist, but on the other hand, there are things I really like about the designs, and I'm looking forward to the gameplay.

Bioshock 2 is terrible from a technical stand point, I have NEVER said I like Borderlands 1 and Dead Island is just a slightly better Borderlands one that is Fable tier in broken promises, Fable games aside from one also on the list.

Proportions are not the only thing that matter in character design. Presentation, overall tone, perspective, these all affect it. And there's quite the distance between One Piece and this.

I don't understand the criticism that Dragon's Crown was sexist. If anything, the only game that Vanillaware ever made that could be considered sexist (as they have a sizable tradition of female protagonists with intriguing story arcs or character hooks) is the original Muramasa:

-the 'female' protagonist is actually a male soul forcibly possessing a young woman's body and she's more or less weak and powerless when left to her own devices
-women only exist for eye candy, to be lusted over or to be rescued

The second might've gotten a pass, but the fact that you don't even really play as Momohime for most of her story arc was a real bizarre choice on the part of the developers and only served to cast a veil of sexism over several of the game's design choices. It makes the fact that Muramasa escaped criticism (apart from one's pertaining to the flaws of the game itself) front the knee-jerk SJWs while Dragon's Crown didn't all the more jarring.

If the cat and oni girl had been on the roster from the start (along with the farmer and kisuke-lite) this wouldn't have stood out as much.
