>Sony will indeed reveal the successor to PlayStation 3 at its PlayStation Meeting 2013 press event on February 20, according to sources of The Wall Street Journal.

>“Sony’s device will be released later this year, these people [familiar with the matter] said, and will spar against Microsoft’s own machine, which is also expected to be released by the holidays,” wrote the publication.

>The new system will incorporate “more social gaming aspects” and be more focused on “changes in how users interact with the machine” versus “hardware improvements,” according to the outlet.

>At one point, the PlayStation manufacturer considered removing the system’s disc drive in favor for an all-digital console, said The Wall Street Journal. But concerns over game file size and slow internet connections made them scrap the idea. Microsoft is said have made a similar decision.

>Previous rumors have suggested PlayStation 4 will run on an eight Jaguar core CPU and 18 CUs AMD-based GPU.

Fuck off. Tools and the one that came after weren't all that great, but Crack In Time was fucking amazing.

I played Crack in Time and didn't feel all that impressed by it. Clank's gameplay improved but it also had its own set of problems like getting stuck on the time puzzles. But for the most part the game was the same shit we've been doing since Going Commando. Special bolts, grinding for max weapons, Skill Points AND the new addition of collecting annoying Zonis so that we can actually enter planets while previous games didn't pull that shit on you. So the Zoni collecting comes off as an artificial way to extend the game's length with filler.

When we're talking online gaming, forcing wireless is an extremely stupid idea unless your first goal is compatibility (as in handhelds). No matter what your wireless connection is--a/b/c/g and eventually ac/ad--nor how close the wireless access point is to the system, you will always have far better latency and dependability through a wired connection.

So, that they put one on is no surprise.

After the Wii & Wii U I dont take that for granted.

Nintendo has been taking their stupid pills extra hard for a few years now.

Of course, no actual Nintendo console has ever had a LAN port from the get-go. Those that had network capabilities required some sort of add-on to use it. Only with the Wii was a Nintendo console network-ready out of the box, and then it was wireless.

But, as I said, if compatibility was a big part of your system it would make sense to leave a LAN port off, and that was a big thing about the Wii. The Wii U... well, they fucked that up 20 different ways to Sunday.

>Pre-orders for Sony's Killzone: Shadow Fall on PS4 are tracking ahead of next-gen rivals Forza 5, Ryse and Dead Rising 3, a report from analyst Cowen & Co. has revealed.

>The 2013 Cowen Video Game Odometer is based on an analysis of NPD sales data and Amazon.com best-seller data from past years, which the firm claims to give it 96 to 97 per cent accuracy. Data has been monitored since E3 in June and is updated every few weeks.

>Out of a maximum score of 100, Killzone: Shadow Fall currently scores 30.3, which compares favourably to next-gen competition.

>Forza 5 is the top placed Xbox One title at 18.8, followed by Dead Rising 3 at 15 and Ryse at 13.2. Sony may well be concerned about its full launch line-up, however, with Knack only scoring 7.7 and Driveclub barely registering on 3.0.

>Cowen states that we are "very early in the pre-order cycle for most of the games we are tracking".

>To put these figures into context, last year's Black Ops 2 scored 100 and went on to generate sales of $1 billion in 15 days. This year's Call of Duty: Ghosts has a score of 73, meaning it's on track to sell fewer units than Blops 2, but could perform better than Modern Warfare 3.

Recent reports like this >>179212 are suggesting that the PS4 will release in late October. Here's another report backing up the October 21st release date.

http://www.nowgamer.com/news/2042406/is_ps4_release_date_21_october_reveal_at_gamescom.html

This would be a big advantage to Sony if true, as it would give them time to establish the PS4 base before Microsoft releases the Xbox One in October. However, it does come across as too early. Although, Sony has been one step ahead of Microsoft ever since they showed their next-gen system first.

Anyway some of the games look lamn others look nice. Those fucking translators need to be fired and replaced. I lost my shit for like an hour straight because they were just bad. >Yesterday Sony Computer Entertainment surprised pretty much everyone by announcing the PlayStation Vita TV, that was almost immediately available for preorder in Japan. How did Japanese gamers react? Looks like they bought it in droves.

>At the moment the Vita-powered microconsole is already sold out on Amazon Japan in both its incarnations (stand alone and value pack including a DualShock 3 controller and an 8 GB memory card).

>Below you can check out a screencap of both offerings. If the initial impression is to be believed, looks like Sony has a winner here, at least in Japan. We’ll have to wait to see what the reaction in the west will be.

Since I already have a Vita, I have no intention of buying a Vita TV anytime soon (though if it ends up doing that Gaikai streaming thing some of the rumors have been talking about, I might change my mind later), but I'm still excited about how well it's doing--increased market-share for Vita will mean more good games for it, so mine can be something more than just a portable P4G machine.

>While giving the keynote speech at an International Game Developers Association conference in Toronto, Naughty Dog creative director Neil Druckmann revealed that The Last of Us was initially supposed to be a reboot of the venerable platforming franchise. The task the team was first given was to reboot Jak & Daxter, and they spent much time "exploring the . . . fantastical world."

>After some time, the creative team discovered that their best ideas were the ones that strayed from the Jak & Daxter reboot concept. This got the team wondering if perhaps the only reason they were rebooting the franchise was to fulfill marketing obligations, which they felt would have resulted in a lackluster experience for longtime fans. After the team came to this conclusion, they were given the go-ahead to come up with something new. This became what we now know as The Last of Us.

We've known about the lack of backwards compatibility for some time now, though. Since they switched architectures they would basically have to include an entire PS3 in the case to run PS3 games on the PS4, so they decided to just ditch it.

The MP3/CD and external hard drive things are surprising, though. Probably just Sony trying to hawk some proprietary bullshit.
